On the Wolferman's website

Wolferman's Bakery, established in 1888 as a Kansas City grocery store famous for its super-thick English muffins, is now part of the 1-800-Flowers family. You may have noticed the Wolferman's brand as you purchased strawberries through Shari's Berries, popcorn from The Popcorn Factory, or Moose Munch from Harry & David. If you're already a big fan of this whole gift-giving family of companies, Wolferman's would love to fit right in as your dessert club.

Big fan of breakfast?

Wolferman's only offers one dessert club, and it's definitely on the breakfast-y side. It's called Bakery Favorites, and comes with many of the baked goods you'd see on your morning table like bagels and waffles, plus sweet treats like brownies and baklava. You'll get about two pounds of baked goods in each delivery.

Affordably-priced, especially with Celebrations Passport

Pricewise, Wolferman's dessert club is one of the most affordable on our list. You can subscribe for three months at $89.99, six months at $169.99, or a full year at $314.99, so it'll be under $30 no matter how long you subscribe. However, you'll likely be charged a $7.99 shipping fee on each delivery, unless you're a member of Celebrations Passport ($19.99 in the first year, $29.99 every subsequent year) that makes shipping free. Unlike our previous review, this time we were easily able to purchase and then apply the Passport to our Bakery Favorites order, saving us a decent chunk of change on the 6- and 12-month clubs.

Finally has some subscriber feedback

We're happy to see that some customer reviews have come in since our last evaluation of Wolferman's Bakery. There are only a dozen, but they average 4.6 stars out of 5. People say that the treats arrive fresh and in perfect condition, and that even the "desserts" that didn't seem like they'd be anything exceptional (like the waffles) were absolutely delicious.

Substitutions can be made via phone after placing your order

It was in the Q&A tab next to the reviews that we discovered another important benefit of subscribing to Wolferman's dessert club: if you need to make a substitution, for allergies or simply for preference, you can do that over the phone. That's a big plus compared with most dessert clubs, who typically only allow you to skip a month if there's something you can't eat (or don't want). Some substitutions may come with a slight surcharge; you can find all of that out by contacting Wolferman's Bakery by phone after you place your online order.

Makes gift-giving a breeze

Wolferman's also makes it easy to give their Bakery Favorites dessert club as a gift. First, you'll be offered some one-off "featured gifts" when you put the club in your cart; maybe you'd like to add a mini English muffins sampler or a waffle assortment to your first order. When you continue to the next screen, you'll see just how all 1-800 Flowers' brands take gift-giving up a notch: they'll let you send a complimentary greeting message, send a personalized printed card for $4.99, suggest a gift message if you're not feeling particularly poetic, and even offer to keep track of the special occasion with a reminder next year.

Reputation has slipped a bit

But, we've dropped Wolferman's Bakery a notch since our previous review. The company now only has a "B" rating from the Better Business Bureau, partly due to complaints from customers annoyed by receiving too many emails even after unsubscribing. Others said that they had low-value substitutions unexpectedly delivered with their orders. Although we're glad to report that Wolferman's reps responded to the complaints, it was surprising to see them in the first place.

Best if you really like breakfast-y baked goods

Also, when most people think of dessert clubs, they're probably not expecting such a heavy emphasis on breakfast foods. This could be a fantastic subscription if you (or your recipient) aren't a super sweet-tooth, or if breakfast is your favorite meal of the day, but Bakery Favorites isn't as focused on desserts as people might be looking for.

Where Can You Find the Most Delectable Dessert Clubs?

Imagine a world where delicious desserts are just a few clicks away. This is the magic of online dessert clubs, where sweet treats from around the globe arrive at your doorstep on a regular basis. Joining one of these clubs can be a delightful adventure, bringing joy and indulgence into your life, one dessert at a time.

How do these subscriptions work? Each month (or sometimes less frequently if you prefer), you receive a box filled with goodies. These treats can range from cookies and cakes to chocolates and pastries, which makes opening each box an exciting experience. But, if you've got some taste preferences (or even allergies), don't stress: most of the dessert clubs out there today will let you know in advance what's coming in your monthly box of sweets, so that you can hit "skip" if there's something on the schedule that you wouldn't enjoy.

Some dessert clubs offer a variety of payment options. You might find clubs that require an upfront payment for a certain number of months. This can be great if you want to commit to a long-term sweet experience without worrying about monthly bills, or if you're giving the dessert club as a gift that keeps giving. On the other hand, some clubs offer a pay-as-you-go plan, which allows you to enjoy the flexibility of deciding each month whether you want to continue. This can be perfect if you like the idea of trying a club without a long-term commitment, or your wallet can't quite accommodate paying in full.

Subscription plans can also vary in terms of delivery frequency. Some clubs send out dessert boxes every month, giving you a regular dose of sweetness to look forward to. Other clubs offer more spaced-out options, such as bi-monthly or quarterly deliveries. This can be ideal if you want to savor each dessert for longer or if you're watching your sugar intake but still want to indulge occasionally.

Choosing the right dessert club for you can depend on several factors. Here are some key criteria to consider:

Subscribing to a dessert club can be a fun and rewarding way to discover new flavors and indulge in high-quality sweets. With so many choices available, there's a perfect club out there for every dessert lover, and the experts at Top Consumer Reviews have done the oh-so-arduous work of evaluating some of today's sweetest options. Whether you're treating yourself or looking for a unique gift, the right dessert club is sure to bring a smile to your face with each delicious delivery.

Dessert Club FAQ

What kinds of desserts can I expect in my club membership?
You can expect a mouth-watering selection of cookies, cakes, cheesecakes, pies and more from a typical dessert club. These plans usually go out of their way to source their treats from small bakeries and chefs from around the nation. Of course, if you prefer a dessert club with a narrower range of sweets - like just cookies and brownies, for example - you can get that too.
How often will the desserts be delivered?
The most popular plans offer monthly dessert deliveries for terms ranging from three months to a full year. Many providers also let you choose a bi-monthly or quarterly delivery schedule, spreading out the sweet treats over a longer period of time.
Are dessert clubs expensive?
Most dessert clubs are priced from $20 to $45 per delivery, depending on the plan you select. Keep in mind that some memberships include two desserts per shipment, giving you much more for your money.
Do I have to pay extra for shipping?
That varies by club provider. Some include delivery costs within the monthly price, while others tack on fees of up to $7 per shipment. That doesn't sound like much, but over a 12-year dessert club membership, you're looking at nearly $85 more than what you're paying for the treats.
Is there a satisfaction guarantee?
Most of the time, yes. Dessert clubs stay in business because they keep their customers happy with gourmet-quality treats delivered in good condition and on time. You should be able to get a refund or replacement if something isn't right with one of your dessert club shipments.
Are dessert clubs legitimate?
Unfortunately for your waistline, yes! Some dessert clubs have been in business for decades and have a long list of satisfied customers - many of whom subscribe year after year. It's always a good idea to check client reviews and even look for a rating from the Better Business Bureau, if you have any concerns about a dessert club provider you're considering.
Do you get anything extra with the deliveries?
Dessert clubs typically include a fun newsletter with each package. You might get pairing suggestions for wine or other beverages, tips for serving the dessert, and the backstory of the baker of your desserts. A few clubs let you add on to your membership if you're giving it as a gift: stuffed animals, flowers and balloons are just some of the options you might find.
Do dessert clubs make good gifts?
Dessert clubs make one of the best gifts available today. From personalized greeting cards to delivery schedules that let you "share the love" all year long, these membership plans are guaranteed to make your lucky recipient smile. (And don't forget: you deserve nice things too. Treat yourself!)
