2026 Diabetes-Friendly Meal Delivery Reviews

What's the best place to find a diabetes-friendly meal delivery service?  If you've recently had a diagnosis of diabetes (or maybe you've had your diagnosis for a while) or you're at risk of pre-diabetes, looking for a new diet to support your body can feel daunting. A specific and managed diet for diabetes can help you control your blood sugar levels, manage weight-related concerns, and reduce any long-term complications of diabetes. But keeping on top of cooking for yourself (and sometimes your family too) as well as shopping for the right ingredients and meals can take a lot of energy. That's why finding a diabetes-friendly meal delivery service can be a game-changer.

On the Cook Unity website

Cook Unity is a diabetes-friendly meal delivery service known for its small-batch meals that are handcrafted by professional chefs. The company promises a "restaurant-level" meal subscription with already-made meals that are delivered to your door. You don't have to worry about cooking with this service as the meals come fully ready to reheat and eat. The meals should feel like having restaurant leftovers with unique flavors and high-quality ingredients.

Service Overview

  • Diets offered: vegan, vegetarian, GLP-1, pescatarian, mediterranean, keto, paleo, low-calorie, low-carb, heart-healthy, and diabetes
  • Days of food: 2-7
  • Shipment frequency: every week
  • Daily meals: 1-2 meals per day (depending on order)
  • Protein per meal: around 20g
  • Average added sugars: 5-11g
  • Number of diabetes-specific programs: none specifically
  • Trial period: lower first week price (50% off)
  • Shipping fee: $9.99 to $11.99 per order (depends on your location)

Basic plan: 4-meal general plan

The main programs for Cook Unity range from a 4-to 16-meal plan. The 4-meal plan is the base option for this diabetes-friendly meal delivery service. You can choose any meals from the weekly menu and have them shipped to your home. You can pick items from specific chefs that you like or just enjoy the new eats each week. Full-price, the 4-meal plan is $101.52 or at $12.69 per meal each week. For your first order, though, there's a 50% off deal that makes the first shipment $50.76 and the per-meal price $6.35. Notably, this plan is not diabetes-specific. Instead, you'll have to do the research yourself on which meals have the right sugars and protein content for your needs. And, don't forget to add in shipping fees of $9.99 to $11.99 per delivery, depending on where you live.

Top-tier plan: Medically-tailored diabetes meals

Cook Unity does offer a diabetes-friendly meal delivery plan, but this is a separate page that requires you to reach out to Cook Unity through their online form. The diabetes meals are approved by dietitians and follow clinical guidelines from the American Diabetes Association. However, Cook Unity does not offer pricing for the diabetic support meals. You have to fill out a form to learn more, which is frustrating compared to other sites that are totally transparent. We filled out the form to get some more details, but we only got an automated email that sent us to the same menu as for the general subscription. So, that seems to mean you're on your own to find meals with low sugar or high protein content. As such, we priced out the standard 16-meal plan since that seems to be the highest tier despite the promise of a diabetes meal plan. Full price 16 meals per week is $191.84 (and $95.92 with the 50% off deal on the first week). Per meal that shakes out to $11.99 full price or $6 per meal during the deal.

A decent number of meals for diabetes

Cook Unity's menu isn't available for diabetes-only meals. You have to wait until their customer service reps reach out to you. But we did look through the menu available for most meals at this diabetes-friendly meal delivery service, and limited the options to those with 7g of sugar or less. Here's what you might find on Cook Unity's menu:

  • Pesto chicken breast
  • Middle-Eastern chicken shawarma
  • Lentil bolognese fettuccine
  • French patty and egg
  • Pesto chicken bowl
  • Creamy chicken poblano

Best reheat option is the oven

For best results, reheat your Cook Unity meals in the oven at 350° for 12-15 minutes. Ideally, you want to cover your meals with foil for best quality. All meals come with microwave instructions too if you want a faster option (2-3 minutes), but Cook Unity does recommend you use the oven for best results. All meals should be refrigerated as soon as they arrive and should last for 4-7 days in the refrigerator. Each meal will have a specific "use by" date on the packaging.

Keep on top of shipments if you want to cancel

Cook Unity doesn't have a competitive policy in place for refunds. Sadly, if you have already paid for a meal that's been shipped out, there are no options for refunds, modifications, or cancellations. So, if you want to cancel your membership from this diabetes-friendly meal delivery service, make sure you do so before your next shipment goes out.

Best Diabetes-Friendly Meal Delivery Companies

High praise for usability and variety

Cook Unity has a concerning "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau due to a failure to respond to 135+ complaints. However, on third-party review sites like Trustpilot, the news is a lot better. Currently, it shows a 4.1-star average on Trustpilot, with many of the most recent reviews offering full 5-star ratings. Customers love that Cook Unity is simple and easy to use. There is high praise for the diabetes-friendly meal delivery service's usability on the app, and the variety of foods is impressive, with unique flavors from around the world. Customers also love that there's little to no prep time for Cook Unity. Reviews that specifically mentioned the diabetes-friendly meals at Cook Unity were also 4-5 stars on average.

Good choice if you don't want to cook

Cook Unity is a great option if you want pre-made meals. However, we would like to see a few improvements before it moves up in our ratings. First, the lack of transparency regarding the diabetes meal plan is a little frustrating. While we did hear back, it just sent us to the same generic menu page for the diabetes-friendly meal delivery service, so it doesn't seem like Cook Unity has a specific plan for diabetes after all. While the meal quality does receive praise, Cook Unity does leave you to manage your own meals and find the ones that work with your dietary restrictions alone.

Diabetes-Friendly Meal Delivery FAQ

What are Diabetes-Friendly Meal Delivery Services?
Diabetes-friendly meal delivery services provide pre-planned, pre-cooked meals specifically designed to meet the dietary needs of individuals with diabetes. These meals typically focus on balancing blood sugar levels with a mix of nutrients, including fiber-rich vegetables, lean proteins, and controlled carbohydrates.
How do I choose the best service for my dietary needs?
Look for services that offer customizable meal plans, allowing you to tailor your menu based on your nutritional needs, taste preferences, and any other specific dietary restrictions you have. Consider the variety of meals offered, ingredient quality, and the company's ability to adhere to diabetic dietary guidelines.
Are these meal delivery services covered by health insurance?
Most diabetes-friendly meal delivery services are not covered by health insurance. However, some health plans may offer discounts or reimbursements for wellness programs, so it's worth checking with your provider.
Can I try a meal delivery service before committing to a subscription?
A few services offer trial periods or allow you to order meals on a one-time basis before signing up for a subscription. This is a great way to test the quality of the food, the accuracy of delivery, and the overall convenience of the service.
How do these services make sure the meals are suitable for diabetics?
Diabetes-friendly meal delivery services work with nutritionists and dietitians to create meal plans that adhere to the nutritional needs of individuals with diabetes. This includes monitoring carbohydrate content, ensuring meals are high in fiber, and limiting sugars and unhealthy fats.
What should I do if I have food allergies or other dietary restrictions?
When signing up for a service, look for options to customize your meals according to your dietary restrictions, including food allergies. Most services allow you to exclude certain ingredients or types of food from your meal plan.
How are the meals delivered, and do I need to be home to receive them?
Meals are usually delivered in insulated packaging to keep them fresh, and in most cases, you don't need to be home to receive them. However, it's best to refrigerate the meals as soon as possible to maintain freshness and quality.
Are Diabetes-Friendly Meal Delivery Services cost-effective?
While the cost can be higher than cooking at home, these services offer significant value through convenience, portion control, and the assurance of eating a balanced diet suitable for diabetes management. They can be a cost-effective solution for those struggling to maintain a diabetic-friendly diet on their own.
