Where does your dog sleep? If you said, "in my bed", you're not alone: studies show that up to half of all dog owners allow Fido the privilege of bunking in with them at night. However, letting your four-legged friend share your sleeping space may not be the best idea.
Sleep experts cite numerous examples of how co-sleeping with a pet can decrease the quality of your rest. When you're ready for Rover to have his own sleeping arrangements, you'll need to choose a Dog Bed. Dog Beds come in almost as many varieties - and price points - as you'd find when shopping for a person.

Low everyday prices, easy returns at local stores, and an ample selection of products are just three of the reasons you'll enjoy shopping for your Dog Bed at Petco. Although you may already be familiar with the retailer from one of their 1,500+ brick-and-mortar locations, Petco's website puts an even broader range of Dog Beds in your hands, from simple bolsters to designer sofas and bamboo hammocks.
As with most of the higher-ranked retailers in our review, the easiest way to sort through the hundreds of available options when it comes to Dog Beds is by using the left-hand navigation. Your filtering choices there include:
In general, Petco's everyday pricing is competitive: the same or lower than their competition. Additionally, Petco offers a Price Match Guarantee, but only against several specific online stores (type "Price Match" in the search box on the Petco site to see which retailers are eligible). Shipping costs are also affordable at Petco: free shipping on orders of $49+, and a flat rate depending on item weight for smaller orders.
To save you even more, Petco has a free Pals Rewards program: you'll earn $5 in rewards for every $100 in purchases. After you sign up, you'll get personalized discount offers, a savings book of coupons, and bonus offers to earn additional rewards points. Also, if you complete a profile for your pet, he will get a complimentary treat on his birthday!
We were extremely impressed with Petco's return policy: not only do you have 60 days to return your Dog Bed if it doesn't meet your needs, but the policy also allows for returning items in used condition. This puts Petco far above most of the retailers we reviewed, who require items to be in unused condition in order to be eligible for a return. If you're shopping for a persnickety pooch who, like Goldilocks, needs her bed to be not too hard and not too soft, this return policy may help you make sure the bed is "just right" in the end. And, because of their numerous retail locations, Petco accepts returns of online orders in-store or via mail.
Because of their everyday low prices, customer-friendly approach to doing business, and ample selection, Petco is a logical favorite when looking for Dog Beds. We're sure your shopping experience will be woof-worthy!
If you've never shopped at Wayfair for home items, you may be pleasantly overwhelmed by their selection. With over 500,000 products in stock, they truly are a one-stop shop for all things home. And, when it comes to Dog Beds, you'll have not hundreds but thousands of options to choose from.
Fortunately, the Wayfair website makes it unbelievably easy to narrow down the 6,000 Dog Beds they carry, so that you can quickly find what you need - faster than it takes for your four-legged friend to respond to "Fetch!" On the main page, you can choose to shop according to the size of your dog, by bed type, or by best-selling items. (We don't recommend that you click on the "All Dog Beds" button - because 6,000 beds is just too mind-boggling.)
Once you've selected an initial category, the results can be sorted by type, price, features, shape, or personalization - just look for the drop-down boxes right above the results. And, if getting express shipping is a priority, there's an additional box you can check; just make sure your zip code is correct.
Because Wayfair has so many customers, their Dog Beds also have an impressive number of reviews. While many sites may only have a handful of reviews on a particular bed, many of those sold by Wayfair have hundreds, even thousands, of customer reviews, giving you a real-world scoop on how the bed holds up to use.
Wayfair is consistently the lowest-priced retailer, across a wide range of styles and price points. Unfortunately, Wayfair no longer has a complimentary rewards program to earn points on every purchase; you'll need to apply for a Wayfair credit card if you want to earn rewards points.
Wayfair's return policy is standard: items can be returned within 30 days of delivery and must be in new condition, with all original packaging. If you'd prefer a store credit, Wayfair will cover the cost of return shipping; otherwise, you'll be responsible for your return shipping costs.
As you might expect with a high-volume retailer, Wayfair has its share of complaints from customers, most often surrounding problems with delivery or missing parts. Fortunately, Wayfair also has a good track record with respect to responding to customer issues - just be sure to keep track of your order while in route, and contact the retailer immediately if you discover any issues.
Because of their low prices and extraordinarily broad selection, Wayfair is one of our top choices for Dog Beds.
Located in Omaha, Nebraska, Hayneedle has been offering everything from Furniture to Gifts since 2002. From basic floor mats to top-of-the-line designer brands, Hayneedle probably has the Dog Bed for your "fur kid" at the best price.
The Hayneedle website is one of the easiest to use among the retailers in our review. From the main Dog Beds page, use the options on the left side of the page to narrow down the results according to the following criteria:
Everyday prices at Hayneedle are competitive with other retailers - and if you find a lower price on a competitor site, contact Hayneedle to request a price match. You'll also save money on shipping compared with some sites: delivery is free on every order over $49.
Although this retailer didn't have any money-saving offers that popped up when we visited the site, Hayneedle is one of only two stores in our review that offers a rewards program. For every order placed using a credit card - and who doesn't use a credit card when shopping online these days? - you will get 3% of your purchase price back as points that can be used as a credit on a future purchase. You can also earn rewards points by writing a review of what you buy, especially if you add an image or a video to your review. This program is complimentary.
If you're unsatisfied with your Dog Bed, Hayneedle does have a 30-day return policy. They also reference a "Satisfaction Guarantee", but there are no details as to how, exactly, they guarantee your happiness as a customer.
That's worth keeping in mind: we found a number of reviews that criticized Hayneedle's customer service department: incorrect items received, parts missing or damaged in shipment, and hassles with getting refunds credited in a timely, accurate fashion. However, Hayneedle does show responsiveness in responding to complaints, and their A+ rating as an accredited company with the Better Business Bureau is evidence that they do have a trustworthy reputation as a merchant.
In short, Hayneedle has an impressive selection of Dog Beds at affordable prices, and customer-friendly perks like free shipping on most orders and a free rewards program. Shoppers may need to be a little more proactive, however, should any issues arise - but rest assured that Hayneedle has a good track record of making things right.
Most people are familiar with PetSmart: with more than 1,500 retail locations, chances are good that you've seen them in your area. However, the available in-store selection is no match for their online product availability: while your local store may carry up to 10 different types of Dog Beds, PetSmart sells nearly 300 options on their website, making it easy to get exactly what you need by shopping at home.
The easiest way to find the Dog Bed you want is by using the options on the Beds & Furniture tab, found under "Shop by Pet". From that tab, you can sort through your choices according to the following criteria:
PetSmart has something for every budget, with prices from as low as $5 to just over $300; the majority of the Dog Beds they sell fall in the $50-$100 range. And, with free shipping on orders over $49, most of their beds will be delivered at no charge. And, although they don't make it obvious, PetSmart does have a Price Match Guarantee. It doesn't apply to sales prices, however - only to online competitors' everyday prices. Certain websites, such as Amazon and eBay, are also excluded from the match.
What about returns? PetSmart's policy is more generous than some of the retailers in our review: online purchases can be returned in-store or by mail within 60 days of the order date. You'll need to make sure to include the original package. What if your Fifi used the dog bed and it wasn't to her liking? That's where the policy gets a little blurry: while there's nothing specifically excluding used-but-unsatisfactory items in PetSmart's online policy, their return requirements for in-store purchases do specify that it has to be in new, saleable condition. Unfortunately, there's no online chat to find out for sure; you'd need to give them a call or send an email to get the exact answer.
With easy returns by mail or at retail locations, an extended return policy, and an appealing variety of products to choose from at every price point, PetSmart is a solid choice for Dog Beds.
"Pet Lifestyle and You": that's what PetPlay stands for in all of its products. Created by two dog lovers who were disappointed in the typical mass-produced Dog Beds, PetPlay seeks to provide high-quality Dog Beds and other products that appeal to pets for comfort and to their owners for being planet-friendly and visually appealing.
Using the PetPlay site to find the Dog Bed you need can seem a little tricky at first, as there is no "Show All" option. Instead, you'll either need to shop by your dog's size or by the type of bed you're looking for:
Although the Chill Pads and Mats start at under $75, the majority of the Dog Beds sold at PetPlay tend to fall in the $140+ range. Across all bed styles, you'll find an impressive array of designs, from artistic and classy to whimsical: mustaches and skulls with roses are just two of the patterns that made us smile. Many of the beds also feature customer reviews, helping you sort through the options and find the exact sleeping space your furry friend needs.
In keeping with their commitment to protecting Mother Earth, PetPlay is the only retailer who offers a Build-a-Bed option. You can buy an interchangeable cover - in all of the same fun and beautiful designs as the regular beds - and a rectangular or circular Fill-a-Bed bag. You then fill that bag with any clothing, towels, or bedding you like, especially those that are too worn to still use and that you might have been ready to throw away. Know how your dog likes to curl up on your clean laundry? Now she can have her own bed made from laundry, but with a stylish outside that keeps your ready-to-toss blankets and towels out of the landfill. Win-win!
Looking to save money? Keep an eye out for pop-ups. When we visited the site, we were offered a discount of 15% on our first purchase if we signed up for the PetPlay monthly email newsletter.
One area where PetPlay will not save you money is on shipping and returns. While many of the retailers in our review offer free shipping on orders over $49, PetPlay seems to only offer it if your order is at least $175. This isn't stated explicitly in their shipping information page, but we were given that detail as we went through the shopping process. Also, while you can return unused items in their original packaging within 30 days of delivery, you are responsible for all return shipping costs as well as a $9 restocking fee.
We also experienced some issues while trying to shop using the site. For example, when we went to check out as a guest rather than creating an account, it emptied our shopping cart and asked if we wanted to continue shopping. For many shoppers, that would be an immediate no-go that would result in looking elsewhere for their Dog Bed purchase.
PetPlay does have an excellent reputation as an accredited, A+ rated company with the Better Business Bureau. You can also find numerous customer testimonials with photos of pets using their PetPlay Dog Beds under the About Us link at the top of the page. We were also touched by PetPlay's commitment to giving back, especially through their Warm Bellies Initiative that donates their high-quality beds to shelters and rescue organizations around the country.
Overall, PetPlay goes to great lengths to provide a comfortable night's sleep to your favorite furbaby while offering you an eye-catching addition to your home's existing decor. We appreciate their dedication to Earth-friendly products and to supporting community organizations as well. But, their price range may be out of reach for some budgets, and the online shopping experience could use some tweaking - we're hopeful to see positive changes in that regard in the future.
Dog is one of a group of businesses offering a myriad of supplies for pets and livestock. When it comes to Dog Beds, you'll find more than a thousand options from which to choose, ranging in price from less than $10 for a basic style to almost $400 for an orthopedic option.
The easiest way to sort through the possibilities is by using the left-hand options under "Browse By" on the site. There, your choices include the following:
Because Dog offers more than 1,000 items in the Dog Bed category, you'll definitely want to focus in on what you're looking for: we were overwhelmed by all of the possibilities, and we also found many items that didn't really fit the category (such as Pet Steps for allowing Rover to get up into a human bed, and Cat Beds!).
We did like how easy it was to see details at a glance on the results page. Shoppers can tell whether or not an item is in stock, if it's made in the US, and the average customer review score (if available).
Dog does allow you to request a price match, either prior to your order or up to 14 days after your purchase. You may find additional offers that will save you money. For instance, when we visited the site, we found a banner ad on the top of the page for a 15% discount on any order.
Dog's shipping and return policies are average. Shipping costs depend on the weight of your order; some items are listed as shipping for free, but there was no information on the site that explained which items qualified (for example, minimum order amount, item price, and so on). We were disappointed to see that we would pay $10+ for shipping a Dog Bed that only cost $9. Returns may be made within 30 days of delivery as long as the Dog Bed is in unused condition and in its original packaging; you will have to pay the costs of return shipping, and you may be charged a 10% restocking fee.
Dog is also a mixed bag when it comes to reputation. On the positive side, their parent company has an A+ grade with the Better Business Bureau as an accredited company, and their responses to customer complaints are appropriate. On the other hand, there are numerous complaints about wrong/defective items, and many customers seem to have gotten less-than-satisfactory responses from Dog's customer service department prior to filing their complaint with the BBB.
So, will shopping at Dog have you wagging your tail or hiding in the corner? When it comes to Dog Beds, the answer is likely "it depends". You'll likely love their wide selection of products, but on the lower end of the price range you may have hefty shipping costs.
For more than 20 years, Ruffwear has been dedicated to creating gear for the canine companions of outdoor adventurers. This is plainly evident in their selection of five Dog Beds, all designed for explorers of the four-legged variety:
Like many sites, Ruffwear offers a pop-up discount if you sign up for their newsletter. However, unlike their competitors, Ruffwear's offer is a little on the skimpy side: free shipping only on your first order. Give that some retailers of Dog Beds offer no-cost shipping on all orders, or at least on orders of at least $49, we weren't that impressed. Ruffwear's standard free shipping offer requires an order of at least $74.95, so if you buy one of the lower-priced beds, you may want to add a few more items to your purchase.
Ruffwear does enjoy a solid reputation within its niche of products for adventurous pets; they get high praise for quality items that really do help people explore more comfortably and easily with their four-legged companions. We found many reviews from happy customers.
On the other hand, when it comes to Dog Beds, their selection is extremely limited specifically because of Ruffwear's focus on the outdoor market. For shoppers who are looking for that kind of Dog Bed, Ruffwear is a great choice. However, because the majority of customers are probably looking for a much wider variety of products to choose from, we feel that other retailers in our review will probably appeal to more shoppers.
In short, Ruffwear is great at what they do, but may not be the preferred choice of the average dog owner.
These beds range from simple mats to protect flooring and offer your pet some separation from a cold floor to luxury mattresses that would rival the most high-tech mattress designed for human beings.
One of the first things to consider when shopping for Dog Beds is your pet's needs. Dogs with heavy coats may need cooler arrangements, so a mat may be ideal. As your dog ages, the need for cushioning increases especially if he suffers from arthritis or other painful ailments related to age or sickness.
You'll also need to keep in mind your overall home decor. Are you trying to match a particular color scheme or style, incorporating your Dog Bed seamlessly into the way you've furnished and decorated your home? The sky's the limit on the higher end of the spectrum, provided you've got the budget to match.
Finally, whichever Dog Bed you choose, you'll want to know exactly how to keep it clean. Smaller options will probably fit in a front-loading washing machine, and most Dog Beds of all sizes come with some kind of washable cover that you can easily launder at home - though larger models may need to be washed in a higher-capacity machine at a laundromat.
As you decide which retailer to use for your Dog Bed purchase, there are several factors that may influence your choice. Some of those include the following:
