Dog is a division of TABcom, the parent company of various online retailers specializing in pet products. Dog offers a wide range of such items, including dog houses.

Few options to choose from

Unfortunately, the selection of outdoor dog houses at Dog is lacking. And if you're looking for a modern or rustic dog house, you might as well bark up another tree: the links to those categories take you to pages with no results. There are only three products in their inventory: the Rustic Lodge Dog House, the Thermocore Grey Dog House, and the Bunkhouse Dog House, all from the brand New Age Pet. Woof, that's ruff.

Average pricing

In terms of pricing, Dog's outdoor dog houses cost $260, $322.12, and $531.37 respectively. However, the larger sizes of the dog houses are more expensive, so be aware that the price you see when browsing the search results might not be the price you'll end up paying. These prices are just okay: we were able to find the same models available through other retailers we've reviewed for both lower and higher price-tags.

Payment plan and Price Match Guarantee

Dog's Price Match Guarantee means they'll refund you the difference if you purchase a product from them and find it being sold by "select online competitors" for less. Fortunately for those on a budget, Dog accommodates a payment plan option via PayPal so you can make those mortgage... er, we mean dog house payments, without digging a financial hole. All of Dog's listings have a 25% discount pre-applied (reflected in the prices we list here) and free shipping on orders over $99.

Strict return policy

If anything is missing or damaged when you receive your dog house, you only have 10 days after receipt to get in touch with Dog customer support for resolution. Dog has a 30-day return policy, but all returns have to be new and unopened. A 20% restock fee is charged for any items that are returned in a state "deemed unsellable", which includes items with animal hair, grime, or damage. If your return is damaged by the shipping company before Dog receives it, you take the blame.

The customer is seldom right

TABcom, the parent company of Dog, has less-than-paw-some reviews. According to customers, some have paid extra for expedited shipping, only to not receive their package within the specified delivery window. To make matters worse, when these customers have requested a refund of their shipping fees, Dog has been less than helpful. Some reviewers have also reported unpleasant encounters with customer support. In addition, items that are listed as "in stock" sometimes turn out to be out of stock, causing customers to receive a series of emails with increasingly longer delays in shipping, and in some cases, no refund for the item they never received.

Look elsewhere

All in all, we aren't eager to recommend Dog. While their prices are okay and their payment plan option is a nice touch, their selection is extremely limited. Plus, if you want to return something, you may have to deal with restocking fees and borderline belligerent customer service representatives. For a wide range of options and excellent customer service, we recommend looking at one of our higher reviewed retailers.

Dog House Store FAQ

A dog house is a small structure usually built in the shape of a typical home that provides shelter and a sense of security for dogs. It will protect your pet against different weather conditions and give them a place to stay throughout the day and night. Dog houses are usually kept in the backyard of a home so the dog can come and go freely around the yard.
There are lots of fun dog house styles you can find online! People have gotten creative and made them look like tiny, modern houses with house numbers and decor that humans would live in. Others look like log cabins with pillars holding up the roof over the deck! You can get really creative with the dog house you choose and even have it painted to match your own home. To get an idea of what you like, start browsing the different options online and narrow it down from there.
The rule of thumb is that they should be at least 27.5 inches tall and the width and length should be about 25 percent larger than your dog's nose to flank length. Most standard dog houses are spacious enough for a large German shepherd, but it never hurts to have a small dog in a big dog house either. However, for companies that sell dog houses in different sizes, you can sometimes save money by sizing down. Make sure to look at all the product photos and customer review photos of a dog house to get a better perspective of how big the dog house you're interested in really is.
There are lots of great options when it comes to dog house material, so it really comes down to the style you like best. Common materials include wood, plastic, resin, and hardwood. Wood is the most popular since it's a good insulator and can withstand high temperatures and humidity. Take the weather conditions of where you live into account when deciding what you want your dog house built out of. Tip: drill several holes the size of nickels into the side of the house's walls to allow warm air to escape in the summer and dry the interior in the winter.
Yes! You can find a functional dog house for as low as $50 or spend a few hundred dollars to get a unique style and the highest quality material. Plastic dog houses are significantly cheaper than wood dog houses and they're easy to clean, weather-resistant, and practical. However, lots of people opt to pay more money for the wood dog houses since they adjust to weather patterns better and come in more designs.
Like most other products you purchase online, dog houses can be returned for a full refund if they're in new, unused condition. Verify the allowed return window with the company you're buying from to make sure you know how long you qualify for a refund. Since dog houses are fairly large and a bit of a pain to transport, you'll probably be on the hook for return shipping if you choose to send it back.
The interior of a dog house can be cleaned similar to your own home. Vacuuming it out every so often is a good idea as well as hosing out the interior and exterior. If you sprinkle the interior of the dog house with baking soda once you've gotten it damp, you can scrub it down with a clean toilet brush to eliminate bacteria and odors. Comforters and toys can usually be washed in your washing machine.
As weird as it sounds, you dog house will definitely outlast your dog. If you keep it clean and it isn't damaged by severe weather, you will probably only ever need to buy one dog house in your lifetime. They're meant to provide shelter and safety for years, so pick something you really like!

Continued from above...

One of the main advantages of buying a dog house from an online retailer is the convenience and accessibility it provides. You can easily compare prices and features from multiple retailers, or read reviews and ratings from other customers to make a more informed decision.

Online shops also offer a wider selection of dog houses than traditional brick-and-mortar stores, and may offer additional services such as installation, delivery, and customer support to ensure a smooth and satisfactory buying experience.

When deciding where to buy your dog house, there are some things you should keep in mind to make sure you choose the right retailer. Here's what to watch out for:

  • Return policy: Most online retailers of dog houses do not manufacture their inventory themselves, so they need to be willing to make things right if you are sent a faulty product. However, some retailers may not accept returns on dog houses that have already been assembled. Check out the return period and the conditions for returning a dog house. Also, verify whether the retailer pays for return shipping.
  • Quality of the dog houses sold: Make sure the retailer offers dog houses made from high-quality and durable materials that can withstand wear and tear and harsh weather conditions. The product descriptions and photos should be clear and accurate, and the measurements should be provided.
  • Ease of browsing: Look for a website that is easy to navigate and that the products are well-organized and easy to find, with filters and sorting options to narrow down your search and quickly find the dog house that meets your needs. A well-designed website can make the buying process a lot less stressful and more efficient.
  • Customer service: The best stores have a track record of good customer service, such as responsive communication, helpful advice, and timely delivery. The retailer should be easy to contact in case of questions or concerns, and should have a user-friendly website.
  • Competitive pricing: To find an affordable dog house, search for retailers that offer different prices to fit your budget. Keep in mind that the size and features of the dog house affect the price, with larger or elaborate options costing more. Retailers may have discounts, sales, or promo codes to help you save money, but don't forget to consider additional costs like shipping or potential return fees.

To help you get a great dog house for your furry friend, Top Consumer Reviews has evaluated and ranked some of today's most popular online retailers that carry them.
