What is the best drone for your money?  Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are remotely controlled aircraft made in various sizes and configurations. These flying devices can be equipped with cameras, sensors, and other payloads, making them versatile tools for different applications.
Potensic, known for its feature-rich and affordable drones, offers two compelling options for beginner and enthusiast pilots: the Atom and Atom SE. Both drones boast 4K cameras with 3-axis gimbals for stable, high-quality footage and intelligent flight modes that enable users to create professional-looking shots easily.
Great choice for drone novices
The Atom and Atom SE also feature foldable designs for portability and level 5 wind resistance for stable flights in various conditions. While the Atom SE is an excellent choice for those just starting, the Atom offers even more advanced features and a more extended transmission range for users willing to invest more. Potensic has established itself as a reliable choice in the consumer drone market with competitive pricing, responsive customer service, and positive customer reviews.
Atom SE drone for beginning drone pilots
The Potensic Atom SE is a light version of the more advanced Atom model, offering basic features at a lower price point of $229.99. It features a 4K camera with a 3-axis gimbal, providing smooth and stable footage. The drone's transmission range is 4km. Like the Atom, the Atom SE includes a foldable design, level 5 wind resistance, and intelligent auto-return functions. The Atom SE's intelligent flight modes include Follow Me, Waypoint, and Circle.
Atom drone for more advanced pilots
The Potensic Atom drone is a compact and powerful one designed for more experienced drone enthusiasts. Even when priced at a higher $299.99, the Atom offers a good balance of features and affordability. It includes a 4K camera with a 3-axis gimbal for stable and precise footage and an impressive transmission range of up to 6km, allowing users to capture stunning aerial shots from a distance.
Foldable design and intelligent flight modes
The Atom's foldable design makes it highly portable, and its level 5 wind resistance ensures stable flights even in windy conditions. The drone also features smart auto-return functions, including return-to-home, providing peace of mind for users. With high-precision GPS, Atom supports intelligent flight modes such as Follow Me, Waypoint Flight, and Circle Flight, enabling users to create professional-looking footage easily.
Free shipping, 30-day returns, and case-by-case exchanges
Potensic offers free shipping on orders over $59 within the United States, with an estimated delivery time of 3-5 business days. The company has a 30-day return policy for unused and unopened items, with the customer responsible for return shipping costs. Potensic handles exchanges case-by-case and advises customers to contact Potensic's customer support for assistance.
Twelve-month hassle-free warranty for defects and quality issues
Potensic provides a 12-month hassle-free warranty on their drones, covering manufacturing defects and quality-related issues. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, accidents, or damage caused by improper use. Compared to other drone manufacturers, Potensic's warranty is standard and provides adequate protection for customers.
Good reputation and positive reviews
Potensic's website reviews the Atom and Atom SE drones very positively. Customers praise the drones' ease of use, stable footage, and intelligent flight modes. Some users have reported minor issues with the app or connectivity, but overall, the sentiment is positive. On Trustpilot, Potensic has a rating average of 4.4 out of 5 stars, with 80% of reviews being 4- or 5-stars. Customers appreciate the company's responsive customer service and the quality of their drones. However, Potensic needs a Better Business Bureau listing, which may be a concern for some potential customers.
Our highest drone recommendation
Based on the features, pricing, and customer sentiment, we recommend Potensic drones for beginners and enthusiasts looking for feature-rich, affordable drones. The Atom and Atom SE offer excellent value for their respective price points, with the Atom providing even more advanced features for those willing to invest a bit more. While the lack of a Better Business Bureau listing may concern some, the overall positive customer reviews and responsive customer service suggest that Potensic is the most reliable choice for consumer drones.
DJI, known for its pioneering drones, has expanded its product range to include handheld imaging devices and portable power supplies. Now offering an extensive array of consumer and professional drones, DJI has built an empire of products suited to aerial photography and videography needs.
Almost too many models to count
The main series of drones include DJI Mavic, DJI Air, DJI Mini, DJI Avata, DJI Inspire, DJI FPV, DJI Phantom, DJI Spark, DJI RC, and DJI Power series. It's impossible to compare them all in one review. We will only review the top-model consumer drones in a limited number of series. However, we noticed that DJI's reputation among customers reflects a mix of positive and negative feedback, so customers should carefully consider everything each product offers and how people have reacted to DJI as a brand.
Comparison of the more popular consumer models
Here's a rundown of DJI's most popular consumer models of drones.
DJI Mavic 3 Pro camera is excellent quality
The DJI Mavic 3 Pro has the best camera quality among DJI's camera drones. It features a main camera with a large Four Thirds 20MP sensor, providing excellent image quality and professional video functionality. Also, the Mavic 3 Pro has two additional telephoto cameras with 70mm and 166mm equivalent focal lengths. With advanced features like omnidirectional collision avoidance, precise subject tracking, and an adjustable aperture on the main camera, the Mavic 3 Pro is the most advanced consumer/prosumer drone DJI offers.
DJI Mini 3 prevails on lower cost and features comparison
The DJI Mini 3 offers the best balance of low cost and features among DJI's camera drones. Despite its affordable price point, it still provides impressive capabilities:
While the DJI Air 2S and Mavic 3 Pro offer even better image quality with larger sensors and more advanced cameras, the Mini 3 delivers excellent value for its price. It's a great entry-level option that still captures great aerial footage and photos, making it ideal for those on a budget who want to get started with drone photography and videography.
DJI Mavic 3 Pro wins on battery life and range
Which DJI drone offers the best value?
Universal obstacle avoidance and recovery features
Almost all of the DJI drones on offer have some measure of obstacle avoidance through sensors that detect objects and obstructions below and all around the device depending on the model. Return to Home (RTH) recovery is built into all models. When a drone senses low battery levels or transmission rates, it can return to the operator automatically. However, some users have reported issues with RTH recovery for the Air 2S.
Reasonable returns and repairs
DJI provides comprehensive support, repair, return, and warranty services. Users can take advantage of DJI Care services for expedited repairs and replacements, with DJI Care Express offering a convenient replacement service within 15 days of receipt for eligible users. Further, DJI Care Refresh plans offer comprehensive protection, covering accidental damage and natural wear, with 24-hour service and specified replacement options.
DJI's customer reputation could be better
Given DJI's established position and brand recognition, its reputation among customers ought to be better. The absence of DJI from the Better Business Bureau website raises our eyebrows a bit with respect to transparency and accountability in customer interactions. Trustpilot ratings reveal a polarized sentiment, with half of customers expressing dissatisfaction through one-star ratings. This indicates that customers either strongly like or dislike DJI's products and services with little opinion in between. While some commend the company for its responsive customer service and efficient issue resolution, others voice frustration with various aspects of their experience.
Still, many positive reviews
Positive reviews highlight streamlined repair and replacement processes, timely responses from support representatives, and satisfaction with product quality. However, negative feedback raises concerns about delayed deliveries, challenges obtaining refunds or returns, and perceived product functionality or compatibility problems. It's a mixed bag, for sure.
Very high on our list
We recommend DJI for its longevity and solid position in the drone industry. However, customer satisfaction is still a factor in this rating. Addressing owners' concerns could help DJI enhance its reputation and improve customer satisfaction. Anyone looking to purchase a drone from DJI should go into the transaction with their eyes wide open regarding some of the ups-and-downs of the brand, but overall it's easy to give DJI a very high rating on reputation and variety alone.

Their drones are sold to both beginners and experienced pilots, with models suitable for recreational flying, photography, and videography. The company provides a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 12-month warranty. Flightelf has good products at affordable prices and a good reputation with consumers compared to other drone vendors we've reviewed in the same price and features category. However, we didn't enjoy seeing the many spelling errors on their website, including their product names.

The New Cine Pro offers a flight time of 35 minutes per battery and comes with a carrying case and extra batteries, allowing for extended flying sessions. While it doesn't have the advanced features of Flightelf's other models, the New Cine Pro is a reliable choice for those just starting or working with a tighter budget. The single-battery package is priced at $338.
Cinemaster 2 Pro Carbon Fiber: top-of-the-line drone
Flightelf's top-of-the-line drone, the Cinemaster 2 Pro Carbon Fiber, is built for professional aerial cinematography. The drone's 5.2GHz FPV transmission guarantees a smooth and stable video feed, and with a flight time of 45 minutes per battery and a range of up to 2 miles, it is suitable for the most demanding aerial imaging projects. Prices for the single-battery package start at $489.
Mini i9max: lightweight and compact drone perfect for beginners
Weighing just 240 grams, the Mini i9max is a lightweight and compact drone that packs a punch despite its small size. This drone is perfect for beginners, thanks to its easy-to-fly nature and portability, which allows for convenient transport and storage. The Mini i9max features a 4K camera, GPS smart modes, and an impressive flight time of 30 minutes per battery, making it a great choice for those seeking a small, affordable drone with decent image quality. Although it doesn't have the advanced features of Flightelf's larger models, the Mini i9max offers excellent value for its price point, with the single-battery package starting at $289.

Flightelf currently ships to the United States and United Kingdom, with estimated delivery times of 5-8 business days. Orders are typically processed within 1-2 business days. Flightelf uses YunExpress for free shipping to both the US and Europe. Customers can track their orders using the provided link. The company notes that total delivery time includes processing and shipping, but does not account for customs delays, weekends, holidays, or unforeseen circumstances.
Refunds are offered at your own trackable shipping expense
Flightelf prioritizes customer satisfaction and allows returns or exchanges within 30 days of delivery, provided the item is in its original condition. Customers must contact Flightelf and return the package using a trackable shipping method at their own expense. Refunds are issued to the original form of payment and may take 3-5 business days to process. Used items are not eligible for a full refund, but depending on the condition, they may receive 75-90% back on the original price. Exchanges require contacting Flightelf for further assistance.
Warranty covers defects with the customer responsible for some fees
Flightelf offers a one-year warranty on this product, covering defects in workmanship and materials under normal residential use. If a defect arises during the warranty period, the manufacturer will repair the defect or provide a repaired/refurbished product of equal value. However, the customer is responsible for shipping and repair fees. To receive warranty service, the customer must provide proof of purchase showing the model number and original sales receipt date.
Mostly positive customer experiences
Based on customer reviews on Trustpilot, Flightelf has a mostly positive reputation. The company has an overall rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot, with 78% of reviews being positive (4 or 5 stars) and 23% being negative (1 star). Three-fourths of customers praise the company for its product quality, customer service, and fast shipping. About 25% of customers reported issues receiving damaged or non-functional drones and difficulties obtaining refunds or warranty support.
Solid drone choice (if you overlook the typos)
Given the mostly positive customer sentiment, customers can feel more at ease purchasing from Flightelf than from most other manufacturers. Their drones offer impressive features and very competitive pricing. Our only concern was that there were several misspellings throughout their website: typos aren't a problem for some, but it could be taken as a lack of attention to detail that might indicate problems elsewhere. We'll still give Flightelf a nod and a high rating, though.
Holy Stone is a drone manufacturer offering a distinctive selection of products for various skill levels at competitive prices. The company provides benefits such as free shipping on orders over $100 within the U.S., a 30-day return policy for most items, and a limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. However, Holy Stone has received an "F" rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) platform but has yet to respond to those complaints, resulting in that failing grade. So, it's probably best to consider other options before buying from Holy Stone, but we'll still give you the rundown. Holy Stone offers 20 different drones in four categories of uses. workmanship under normal use for a specific period from the original purchase date. The warranty duration varies depending on the drone model, with some models covered for up to 12 months. To obtain warranty service, customers must contact Holy Stone's customer support team and provide proof of purchase and other necessary information. The warranty does not cover damage caused by unauthorized modification, misuse, or accidents. Customer experience is 50/50
The experiences customers report on Trustpilot are about 50% good and 50% bad, with an overall 3.2-star rating and over 110 total reviews. While some customers praise the company for its product quality, customer service, and fast shipping, others have expressed concerns about product durability, unresponsive customer support, and difficulties with returns or refunds. On the Better Business Bureau website, Holy Stone receives an "F" rating with no reviews and 3 customer complaints closed in the last 3 years.
Reputation is just okay
While Holy Stone does have some compelling price points and entry-level drones, the fact that they have a half-and-half split on the number of customers that love and hate them is reason enough to urge caution when considering buying from them. Research other alternatives before choosing Holy Stone.
Autel Robotics, founded in 2014, is a significant player in the drone industry and is known for its commitment to innovation. Based in Shenzhen, a hub for drone technology, the company has expanded with subsidiaries in the US, Germany, Italy, and Singapore. Their focus on research and development is evident with 2,537 patent applications worldwide and 1,053 patents authorized.
Wide variety of drones
The company offers a variety of drones, including multi-rotor and fixed-wing models, used primarily for security, inspection, and surveying & mapping. They also provide software tools like a developer console, API, and SDK for those interested in customizing their drone experiences. Autel products are available through their official online store, authorized partners, and select retailers. However, due to no small amount of negative customer feedback, we recommend you first consider a different drone manufacturer for your hobby or enterprise needs, before committing your dollars to Autel. Let's see why.
Versatile consumer drone lineup
Want to know more about Autel's drone lineup?
Convenient portability and user-friendly design
All of the drones we reviewed from Autel have portability features making it easier to pack, unpack, and set up the drones for use in any situation. For ease of use, all drones feature extensive documentation and feature-filled mobile apps, controllers, and accessories to improve usability.
Specialized enterprise drone solutions
Autel's enterprise drone offerings are designed to accommodate many specialized use cases.
Superior camera quality and selection on some models
For the best quality of images from the camera sensor, the EVO II Pro V3 stands out for having the best camera quality. It features a 1" CMOS sensor, Moonlight Algorithm 2.0, and 16x digital zoom, offering high-resolution images and videos with excellent clarity and detail. Conversely, the EVO Nano Series offers the least for camera quality. While it still provides decent 2.7K/30FPS transmission quality and a 50MP photo capability, it doesn't match the high-resolution and advanced features in models like the EVO II Pro V3 or the Alpha series.
Impressive flight time and transmission ranges
If flight time and range are important to you, The Dragonfish series has an amazing 158 minutes of flight time over an 18.6-mile transmission range due to its extended 4.8-hour battery life. This makes it ideal for long-term photographic missions without changing the battery as often. Note that the 18.6 miles is the image transmission distance when the base station is used. Without a base station, the image transmission distance is 6.2 miles. The hobbyist EVO Nano Series will, at best, give you 6.2 miles of transmission range and a battery life of 2.5 hours when connected to a mobile phone and about 3.5 hours when not connected to a mobile phone.
Comprehensive obstacle avoidance features
Autel drones with obstacle avoidance abilities include the Alpha, EVO Max, EVO II Enterprise V3 and V2, EVO II Pro V3, EVO II DUAL 640T V3 and V2, EVO II RTK Series V2, EVO Lite Series, EVO Nano, EVO II Pro V2, and EVO II. The degrees of avoidance range from 360° to 720° (above, below, and lateral).
Wide selection of buying options and price ranges
With Autel, you have a choice of buying options. You can browse their website and filter a search of authorized partner dealers based on location, product, drone types, and drone specialties. Online stores include Autel's website plus 16 other online retailers. Prices start at $799 for the low-end EVO Nano consumer drone and go up to $12,599 for the EVO Max 4N. Care plan availability varies depending on the drone, and the prices of care plans start at $69.
Low customer sentiment and reputation
The overall customer sentiment towards Autel Robotics is negative, with several customers expressing dissatisfaction with the product quality and customer service. Complaints largely revolve around issues with product reliability, poor customer support, and warranty disputes. One common complaint is about the drone's safety features failing, leading to accidents for which Autel refuses to take responsibility. For instance, a customer's EVO II Enterprise V3 collided with a tree despite the anti-collision feature. Autel's response was to attribute the accident to pilot error and charge for repairs, which the customer felt was unfair. Customers also express frustration with drones malfunctioning, incomplete repairs, the lack of spare parts, and discontinued customer support for older models. Some feel Autel's business practices are deceptive, particularly regarding repair services and warranty coverage.
Some positive comments as well
On the positive side, a few customers liked the drone's performance and referenced some instances of successful warranty claims. One customer mentioned that their EVO lite Plus drone crashed, but Autel replaced it and even provided extra accessories. However, these positive experiences appear to be in the minority compared to the negative feedback.
Has a lot of potential but doesn't deliver on customer support
While Autel's drones may offer advanced features and performance, the company contends with product reliability and customer support issues, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. We recommend searching out the offerings of other drone companies before buying an Autel drone.
DeerC is a company that focuses on providing consumer-friendly drones and wheeled remote-controlled toys tailored to kids. Their product lineup features a variety of quadcopter drones in somewhat uninspiring colors like red, blue, silver, and black, with models ranging from the D10 to the D70.
Range of features, but online problems
DeerC's drones offer a range of features from simple toss-to-launch functions to more advanced capabilities like FPV transmission and voice control. Despite the variety, DeerC's online presence has problems: its official website offers limited information and products. While their Amazon store is the primary sales and reviews channel, it doesn't have an integrated experience with their website. Additionally, the sparse availability of accessories and a 3.2-star rating on Trustpilot with some negative reviews should give you pause about DeerC's product quality and customer service.
Lackluster website, research, and buying experiences
The vendor's website, which they title their "flagship store," has scattered and grammatically incorrect information about the company and appears only partially finished. It doesn't show typical quadcopter drones like the Amazon store, but it does display wheeled and helicopter-style remote-controlled toys. The Amazon store appears to be the only location where consumers can buy everything, including the quadcopter-style drones. This confuses, frustrates, and reduces trust and value for visitors who want an integrated buying experience no matter where they shop.
Disappointing variety and confusing differences in accessories
The vendor's website is also quite short on accessories, only displaying "Battery" as a single category. On DeerC's Amazon store, it's not any less confusing. It displays only one category of quadcopter drone spare parts. Even though it does display batteries for sale, they differ greatly from what is sold on the vendor's website.
Decent selection and pricing of beginner quadcopter drones
DeerC quadcopter drones come in four underwhelmingly basic colors: red, blue, silver, and black. There are seven main models, the D10, D11, D20, D23, D40, D50, and D60 Their newest release, the D70, is a mini drone that folds for transport. However, as of this writing, only the D11, D20, D60, and D70 were available in stock for purchase on Amazon.
Restrictive refunds, exchanges, and returns policies
Arguably, the underwhelming refunds, exchanges, and returns policies reflect DeerC drones' pricing and probably the quality. You can cancel your order within 48 hours of placing it and expect a refund within 3-5 business days to your original form of payment. But after 30 days there are no refunds or exchanges. Returns require it to be in the same condition as received and in the original packaging. Sale items cannot be refunded, and if an item is marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to the purchaser, the return will occur in the form of a gift credit for the value of the return.
Customer complaints and reviews are really mixed
Amazon ratings were slightly positive, averaging about 50-60% 5-star reviews. People liked that the drones were easy to learn to fly. People who didn't like DeerC drones said they had problems with broken remotes, flyaways, unresponsive controls, malfunctioning after only a few days of use, previously opened boxes, and troubles pairing them with the remote. The vendor's listing with the Better Business Bureau doesn't exist. It has only one Trustpilot review, which was negative due to faulty hardware, a short warranty, and unhelpful customer service.
Good for kids and that's about all
It appears that DeerC's products are just enough for casual beginners looking to spend under $100 for a toy drone but they are not of good enough quality to merit a higher rating. Even if the cost will be higher, look to other vendors if you want a higher-quality drone.
FIMI drones present an enticing option for enthusiasts seeking advanced features and competitive pricing within the drone market. FIMI aims to deliver high-quality aerial photography and videography experiences with 4K video recording and intelligent flight modes. The brand has a range of models available, from compact and portable options to more advanced styles. Despite the usefulness of its features, potential buyers should reconsider buying FIMI drones due to the widespread reports of issues and dissatisfaction among customers.
Not much diversity among drone models
Compared to other drone vendors, the divisions and differences of FIMI's main product offerings are slight enough that it may be difficult for anyone not well-versed in drone capabilities to choose a drone for their needs. Here are some details about the main drone categories and what differentiates them.
Three low price points put FIMI drones within reach
FIMI drones are known for being price-concious. For example:
Common features between all three models
All three drones offer high-quality imaging capabilities with 4K video and photo capabilities, intelligent flight modes, precision landing, GPS real-time tracking, and various shooting modes like time-lapse and panorama. They are also equipped with obstacle avoidance features and remote controllers with built-in screens, and meet Remote ID requirements.
Slight variations that may be important to different users
In terms of differences, the FIMI X8 Pro, priced at $699, offers the longest transmission range at 15km and stands out with features like 4G cellular unlimited range transmission, an optional built-in screen remote controller, and a megaphone module. In the middle price range, the FIMI X8SE 2022 V2, priced at $399, provides a slightly shorter 10km transmission range but compensates with features like search and rescue mode. The most affordable option, the FIMI X8 Mini V2, priced at $299, broadcasts a 9km transmission range and features like a fast-charging battery and AI computing capabilities. While all three drones offer high-resolution imaging capabilities, they differ in sensor size and aperture, affecting image quality in various lighting conditions.
Something for everyone, even if features aren't that different
Each FIMI drone caters to different consumer needs and preferences. The FIMI X8 Pro, with its extensive transmission range, advanced imaging capabilities, and additional features, is ideal for professional photographers or videographers who demand top-tier performance. The FIMI X8SE 2022 V2 balances performance and affordability, making it suitable for enthusiasts or semi-professionals seeking reliable performance without breaking the bank. Lastly, the FIMI X8 Mini V2 offers an affordable entry point for beginners or casual users who prioritize compactness and affordability while desiring high-quality imaging and essential flight features.
Overwhelmingly negative customer experiences
FIMI had no Better Business Bureau listing to consider as of this review and a Trustpilot rating of 1.9 stars over 24 total reviews as of this writing. Sadly, the sentiment about FIMI drones and the company is predominantly negative based on the reviews from Trustpilot. Many customers have expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the drones, citing issues such as defective components, poor customer service, and delivery delays. Several reviewers reported problems with the gimbal, battery, and software, leading to frustration and disappointment. Others highlighted concerns about FIMI drones not being compliant with regulations in certain countries, such as the United States.
Lack of response or resolution
There were further complaints about the lack of response or resolution from FIMI's customer support team, leading to more frustration and dissatisfaction among drone owners. Despite some positive experiences with the drones themselves, such as good performance and features for the price, the overall reputation of the company and its products is marred by those frequent negative reviews regarding product quality and customer service.
Can't recommend these drones yet
Drone shoppers will want to look at buying from manufacturers other than FIMI. While FIMI's drones may offer attractive features and performance at a competitive price point, the risk of encountering issues with product quality and customer service appears significant.
The HOVERAir X1 is a compact, autonomous flying camera created by HoverAir, a company focused on producing a single drone model. This small device packs cutting-edge technology into a lightweight, pocket-friendly form factor, aiming to provide users with a simple solution for capturing memorable experiences.
Portable and uncomplicated
The X1's design prioritizes portability and ease of use, potentially appealing to those who desire an uncomplicated, travel-friendly drone option. However, it's important to consider the limitations that may come with such a compact size and the fact that the company offers only one product. The lack of a track record on third-party review sites is also a problem for the company in establishing trust among potential customers. Ultimately, the HOVERAir X1's suitability will depend on just how simple you want your drone experience to be.
Narrow pricing range for variants of a single drone
HOVERAir offers four variants of the X1: Essential ($369), Standard ($349), Combo ($399), and Combo Plus ($439). The main differences between these models are the inclusion of a charging hub and the number of batteries. The Essential and Standard models do not include a charging hub, while the Combo and Combo Plus do. The Standard comes with one battery, the Essential and Combo have two, and the Combo Plus has three. Considering the features and capabilities of the X1, the pricing seems reasonable, especially for the Combo and Combo Plus models that include the convenient charging hub. However, given the limited range and utility of such a small drone meant mainly for indoor or fair weather outdoor use close to home, the only benefit to having multiple batteries is convenience, not distance from a power source.
Standout features focused on ease of use
The HOVERAir X1 has many features that help it stand out from other portable drones. Its 3-second palm takeoff allows for quick and easy launching, while the Follow Me mode uses advanced tracking algorithms to keep the camera focused on you, even at speeds up to 15 mph. The X1 also offers a variety of intelligent shooting paths, such as Hover, Orbit, Zoom-Out, and Bird's-Eye, enabling users to capture stunning footage with minimal effort.
Lightweight and well equipped
Weighing just 125g (4.41oz), the X1 is incredibly portable and exempt from FAA registration. The device also features a triple stabilization system for smooth video and a smart app for customizing settings and downloading content. With 32GB of storage, 1080p video resolution, and a max flight height of 15m, the HOVERAir X1 is well-equipped for capturing high-quality footage in various scenarios.
Quick free shipping on orders more than $99
HoverAir offers free shipping on all orders over $99, with shipping timeframes starting within 2 business days. The company also provides a 15-day return warranty, allowing users to return their X1 for any reason within 15 days of receiving the product, as long as it is in unopened factory condition. If any manufacturing defects occur within the first 15 days, HoverAir will refund all costs incurred during the return or exchange, including shipping. These policies are fairly standard and provide customers with a reasonable level of protection.
Full-year limited warranty
As required by law, HoverAir provides a 12-month limited warranty for the X1. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and ensures that customers are protected against any issues that may arise due to faulty workmanship or materials. While a 12-month warranty is adequate, some competitors may offer more extended coverage periods.
No representation on BBB or Trustpilot consumer review sites
At the time of this review, HoverAir does not have a profile on Trustpilot or the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The lack of presence on these platforms makes it difficult to assess the company's overall reputation and customer satisfaction levels. However, on the HoverAir website, the X1 has a 4.5-star rating based on 454 reviews, with 83% of customers giving it a 5-star rating. While these reviews are generally positive, it's important to note that they are hosted on the company's website and aren't guaranteed to be unfiltered (or even legit).
Low cost possibly makes it worth the risk for non-technical consumers
The HOVERAir X1 is a well-designed, feature-packed self-flying camera that offers good value for its price. Its portability, ease of use, and intelligent shooting modes make it an attractive option for those looking to capture life's special moments without the complexity of a traditional drone. The pricing is competitive, and the included features justify the cost, especially for the Combo and Combo Plus models.
Not enough info to invest the money in these drones
However, the company's lack of a strong online presence and customer reviews on third-party platforms like Trustpilot and BBB makes it challenging to fully assess its reputation and customer satisfaction levels. As such, we can only recommend the HOVERAir X1 for those who value portability and ease of use. However, we suggest that potential buyers conduct further research and weigh the risks associated with a lesser-known brand like HoverAir before making the commitment.
EXO claims it distinguishes itself in the drone market by focusing on innovation and user-centric design. EXO targets enthusiasts and professionals by offering a range of drone models equipped with advanced features such as high-resolution cameras and extended flight times. While some customers praise EXO for its sleek designs and dependable performance, many others voice concerns over technical issues and lackluster customer support. Given the amount of negative feedback, we cannot recommend EXO at this time.

Lastly, the EXO X7 Ranger PLUS, priced at $329, offers optional 360° obstacle avoidance and a flight time of 25 minutes. It has a transmission range of 1/2 mile and a camera capable of capturing 4K photos (9 megapixels) and 2K video. The X7 Ranger PLUS can withstand winds up to 20 mph and features smart GPS modes. Professionals or enthusiasts may prefer the Blackhawk 3 Pro for its advanced features, while intermediate users may opt for the Mini Pro+ for its balance of performance and price. Hobbyists or budget-conscious consumers could consider the Cinemaster 2, while beginners might find the X7 Ranger PLUS a suitable entry-level option.
Negative experiences and widespread discontent with EXO drones
Based on the reviews from both Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the overall reputation of EXO among its customer base appears overwhelmingly negative. On Trustpilot, out of four reviews, all were rated one star, with customers expressing dissatisfaction with various aspects of their experiences. Common complaints include poor customer service, malfunctioning products, difficulty obtaining refunds or replacements, and issues with shipping and delivery. For example, customers reported problems with faulty hardware, non-functional apps, unresponsive customer support, and misleading advertising regarding return policies and product capabilities.
Failed rating with the BBB
More importantly, the BBB rating for EXO is an "F", with numerous complaints regarding product issues, service problems, delivery delays, and unresolved disputes. Customers have reported receiving defective products, encountering difficulties with obtaining refunds or exchanges and experiencing challenges with communication and support from the company. Additionally, customers have lodged complaints about the company's failure to adhere to advertised warranties and return policies, further contributing to negative customer experiences.
Not a drone brand we recommend
We don't recommend that anyone purchase drones from EXO. The pattern in the customer reviews and complaints of poor product quality, inadequate customer support, and misleading business practices suggests a significant risk of encountering issues and dissatisfaction with their products and services.
Ruko is a Hong Kong-based company that manufactures and sells consumer drones. It offers several models, ranging from entry-level drones for just under $200 to more advanced options with 4K cameras and intelligent flight modes for around $600.
Good features but bad reviews
Critical features of Ruko drones include easy controls, auto-return, long flight times, and beginner-friendly operation. Our overall recommendation is that Ruko drones provide a good amount of features for the price, but potential buyers should be cautious due to an overwhelming majority of bad reviews. Additionally, the website needs better grammar and spelling and more consistent information. Still, in case you're curious, here's what you need to know about Ruko drones.
Advanced Ruko F11 GIM2 with only a 2-axis gimbal
The Ruko F11 GIM2 is the company's most advanced consumer drone model. It costs $629 and features a 4K camera on a 2-axis mechanical gimbal for stable video. Having only 2 axes for the gimbal is surprising given the number of drones we reviewed for lower prices with 3-axis gimbals. The F11 GIM2 offers a 5G Wi-Fi 9800-ft transmission range. But we couldn't determine from the website whether it had auto-return home or how many minutes of flight time. We can only assume that it has an auto-return home feature and at least 60 minutes of flight time because the following model has these features. However, one reviewer was unable to locate any form of auto-return feature for this drone model. The F11 GIM2 is best suited for intermediate to advanced drone pilots looking to capture high-quality aerial photos and videos.
Intermediate Ruko F11 Pro with no mechanical gimbal
A step down from the F11 GIM2, the Ruko F11 Pro costs $379. It still provides a 4K camera but lacks any mechanical gimbal. Its camera is forward-facing only. The F11 Pro has a shorter 3900-ft range and maintains a 60-minute flight time with two batteries. This model is a good fit for beginner to intermediate pilots who want 4K video on a budget.
Entry-level Ruko U11 Pro with limited range and flight time
As Ruko's entry-level model, the U11 Pro costs $199 with two batteries or $249 with three. It uses a fixed 4K camera without a gimbal and has a transmission range of just over 1000 feet. There is no mention of the flight time minutes per battery, but a reviewer stated that they got about 18 minutes before changing batteries. A flight time of between 18 and 20 minutes is normal for drones for beginners looking for an affordable, easy-to-fly machine.
Competitive pricing for the feature sets
Ruko's drones are competitively priced compared to other brands with similar features. The U11 Pro is one of the most affordable 4K drones out there, while the F11 GIM2 costs less than many drones with mechanical gimbals. Providing two batteries with each model is a nice value-add. Overall, Ruko's pricing is fair to slightly better than average.
Core feature comparisons relative to price
All three Ruko drones offer good core features for their respective price points. 4K video, auto return, and beginner-friendly controls are standard. The F11 GIM2's mechanical gimbal and extended range are standouts at its $600+ price. However, Ruko has fewer intelligent flight modes than some competitors for the same price or less.
Free U.S. shipping, 14-day returns, and 30-day exchanges
Ruko provides free shipping on all US orders, which is better than some drone brands that require a minimum purchase. They accept returns within 14 days for a refund and allow exchanges within 30 days. Numerous conditions apply to these policies, so be sure to read them in detail.
Care plans for two models only
Only buyers of the F11 GIM2 and F11GIM can purchase a 1-year care plan, which covers two replacements within a year due to accidents, malfunction, water damage, collisions, or missing drones. Under the care plan, replacement occurs with a small additional cost vs. paying the total cost for a new drone. The other models are not eligible for care plans. No page on the Ruko website discusses other warranty options.
Poor company reputation on third-party review sites
Ruko needs a better reputation for customer service or support. The company has no listing or rating from the Better Business Bureau. On Trustpilot, Ruko earns just 3.3 out of 5 stars, with 40% of reviews giving 1 star. Complaints consistently mention defective products, missing items, and unhelpful customer service. However, reviews of Ruko's drones on their website are overwhelmingly positive. This discrepancy naturally makes us question the authenticity of the reviews on Ruko's site.
Competitive features and pricing, but poor quality and sketchy reviews
Ruko's drones provide competitive features and good value for money, especially the entry-level U11 Pro and advanced F11 GIM2. Ruko offers many drones at low prices for budget-conscious buyers. However, the company's incomplete website, poor reputation for quality control, and bad customer service are significant concerns. Many customers report receiving defective products and having trouble getting support.
Lowest-ranked drone brand
Therefore, we can't recommend Ruko drones. If you have a tight budget and are willing to accept the risk of potential issues, Ruko's affordable prices and basic feature sets might be appealing. However, for buyers who prioritize better features, reliability, and customer service, spending more for a brand with a better reputation will be worth the investment.
