In 2004, American Screening originated in a small 150-square-foot sunroom, driven by the mission to combat drug addiction. Over time, the company has grown significantly, expanding its distribution of medical supplies not only across the United States but also to countries around the globe.
Millions of testing strips sold each year
American Screening is known for producing rapid drug and alcohol tests, as well as infectious disease tests, cardiac tests, pregnancy tests, and various other medical supplies. With an impressive track record, they proudly claim to be a leading distributor of rapid diagnostic tests, selling over 250 million strips annually.
It's hard to find what you need
When visiting the American Screening website, there's so much clutter. The wide array of tests offered, such as drug test cassettes, cups, dip cards, hair tests, key cup swabs, saliva tests, strips, alcohol tests, breathalyzers, and drug identification kits, might be overwhelming if you don't know exactly what you need in advance. In order to find the drug tests, you have to first go under the "Drugs and Alcohol” tab. Under this tab, there are a variety of items related to drugs and alcohol, though not all of them are drug tests. You have to skim through the options to find what you need. Included in their wide variety are hair tests, saliva tests, and urine tests. However, it can be hard to find the urine tests as they are labeled under "test strips'' or "home tests”.
At home convenience for all tests
The price for the drug tests at American Screening varies depending on which test you get, but no matter what you buy the items will be shipped to your home and the tests can be completed at your convenience. Only the hair tests need to be shipped back to American Screening where customers will receive negative results within 24 hours and positive results within 48-72 hours depending on additional testing at the lab.
Prices both very cheap and very expensive
The pricing here is hard to compare at a glance due to the cluttered nature of the website and the fact that their price filters don't seem to work. However, we discovered that the lowest-priced saliva drug test at American Screening is just $1.50, and yes, you can just buy one test covering TCH, cocaine, amphetamines, opioids, and methamphetamines. The most expensive item on sale was $701, and there was another option that was over $1,000 - but that and more than half of the merchandise for saliva tests was completely out of stock. For hair tests, the pricing ranges from $70 to $134.80, and for urine tests, the prices start as low as $0.86 per unit and go up to $18,939.99 (yes, this shocked us too).
Free shipping available
If you're in the U.S. and your order is over $250, you can get free shipping for regular-sized orders under 150 lbs at American Screening. On the other hand, if you're ordering from outside the U.S., you can choose UPS, DHL, or US Postal for shipping. US Postal is the cheapest, but if your package gets lost, there's no refund. If you want detailed tracking, go for UPS or ask about special air freight pricing. And, if there are any customs fees, American Screening won't cover them.
Lawsuits and out-of-stock merchandise
While American Screening has an impressive "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau, the company also has an alert for a current lawsuit. The case, labeled FTC Case 4:20-cv-01021 v. American Screening, LLC, is regarding government action, which raises some red flags. In general, the company has mid-level ratings on third-party review sites with its highest rating being 3.7 from Sitejabber, and all other ratings holding below 3 total stars. In general, customers are complaining about the out-of-stock problem. We saw on the site that many items are out of stock, but customers are saying that even some of the items that say they are in stock actually aren't. Considering how frustrating this lack of transparency can be, this knocks American Screen down in our ratings fairly significantly.
Not a top competitor
While some good things are happening, like tests under $1 at American Screening, the fact that many customers say that items are listed while still out of stock means you might not be able to take advantage of those prices. Considering there is also a lawsuit against the company and the site is hard to navigate, American Screening sits as our lowest option for drug tests.
While drug testing has become a widely accepted practice for both large and small companies, educational institutions, and sports teams, there has been a noticeable shift in the last decade with a growing customer category: parents. With increasing concerns about teenager's potential involvement in illegal substance use - or even the misuse of prescription medications - moms and dads are taking a proactive approach to ensure their children's well-being.
Another reason at-home drug testing is becoming more popular is for D1 athletes to spot-check themselves (especially considering some prescription medications can cause false positives) to make sure they won't be disqualified from their sport for something that isn't their fault. Whether you're looking for drug tests for teen safety or any other reason, at-home drug tests offer a convenient and confidential method to monitor potential drug activities.
Regardless of your reason for buying an at-home drug test, rest assured that you are not the only one. In the United States, there are up to 10 million individuals aged 12 to 29 who require treatment for substance abuse at any given time. Drug testing serves as a valuable tool to identify whether someone is using drugs and can be instrumental in getting them the necessary help and support they need to overcome their challenges.
Depending on where you get your drug tests, there are a few different ways to complete them: some use blood testing in a lab, others check urine or hair samples, and sometimes they test for an unknown substance. The type of test you choose will depend on how invasive you want the procedure to be or if you're looking for a particular kind of substance. For example, the blood test is more invasive, but it is less expensive than hair testing, which has great results and is less invasive.
So, if you're looking to buy drug tests, where can you go? Well, there are a few trustworthy and private services available online that can assist you in getting a particular test and provide quick results. If you're not sure where to turn, here are some criteria to help you narrow down where to go for your drug testing needs:
