CeraVe offers "advanced skincare without a prescription". Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe's eczema regimen consists of a two-step process: cleansing the skin with Soothing Body Wash, and then applying Soothing Creamy Oil.
Both products contain essential ceramides: part of the skin's natural barrier that keeps skin hydrated all day. And, you won't get any irritants like fragrance or parabens in this eczema product.
If you don't get the relief you need from either part of the CeraVe regimen, you can request a refund within 30 days.
So, most importantly, is CeraVe's eczema product line effective at delivering relief from itchy skin and keeping it moisturized? Results are mixed. With over 900 customer reviews, CeraVe averages about 4.1 out of 5 stars. Like most skincare products, what works for one person may not be effective for another. The most common complaints we saw were that the Soothing Creamy Oil was much greasier than a typical eczema lotion; one user even said that they slipped in the tub while applying it. Other customers said that the fragrance-free formula has an unpleasant smell.
We like that CeraVe is priced well, and that customers have the option of trying just the Body Wash or the Soothing Oil - especially since few eczema products include a cleanser and only focus on a lotion or cream, having a body wash could be a nice complement to a product from another supplier.
But, the bad smell and greasy texture of the oil, along with the lack of results for some users, leave CeraVe in the middle of the pack when it comes to fighting eczema.
Scientists are still unsure what causes this skin condition. Also known as atopic dermatitis, some theories suggest that an individual starts with a genetic predisposition to develop the disorder, which can then be triggered by stress or other factors. In fact, more than 35 million Americans suffer from eczema. Eczema symptoms include itchiness, swelling, redness and dryness.
In severe cases the skin can become crusty, scaly and cracked - even leading to bleeding. Obviously, these symptoms can be painful as well as embarrassing. From office workers who don't want to be embarrassed at work, to brides who want clear skin in their wedding photos, to people who want to go to the beach without calling attention to their skin condition, individuals suffering with eczema are often desperate for a solution.
Because the cause of eczema is still unknown, most products focus on calming irritated skin and keeping it hydrated. Some also try to block any environmental irritants or triggers from passing through the skin and causing further issues. These products typically come in lotion or cream form, though a few make use of essential oils or tablets to take another approach.
