On the NordicTrack website

NordicTrack is a leading home fitness brand known for its cardio equipment (like exercise bikes). It works with the iFIT interactive training program, which includes on-demand workouts and expert coaching for a monthly (or annual) fee. Most of the exercise bikes include touchscreens and automated machine adjustments to make your workouts more personalized. Annoyingly, you are required to choose an iFIT subscription to make your purchase. The monthly option is $39 per month. If you choose a yearly plan, it will be $396.

Equipment Overview:

  • Type of exercise bikes: Studio, Upright, and Recumbent
  • Price range: $1,599.99 to $2,999.99
  • Different models: 4
  • Can stream live/pre-recorded workouts: Yes
  • Financing available: Yes
  • Weight capacity: 350 lbs
  • Return policy: 30 days
  • Warranty: 10 years frame, 2 years parts, 1 year labor
  • Shipping: Free, includes assembly

Basic model: 10 Recumbent Bike

NordicTrack's base model is the 10 Recumbent Bike. It includes a workout entertainment screen that's 10" and touchscreen technology for streaming iFIT. You have 26 levels of resistance. Resistance levels and volume controls are built into the handles, so you can change up your workout without letting go or pausing motion. The exercise bike will also auto-adjust resistance levels to keep the difficulty up to where you feel the burn. The price for this model is $1,559.99.

Top-tier model: X24 Bike

The top unit at NordicTrack is the X24 Bike, which promises that you'll burn 2x more calories due to the 20% incline in the design. You can also change it to a 10% decline, which includes a more "real-world" feel for your training. There are 24 levels of resistance, too. The exercise bike comes with a 24" touchscreen for trainer-led workouts and streaming. You can also use the iFIT program with this model. The X24 offers clip-in cleats or the ability to strap into the pedals with any shoe if you don't have clips. The price for the X24 is $2,999.99.

Shipping is free for standard delivery

Standard shipping is free at NordicTrack. If you want to get delivery and assembly, the cost will be $349.99. For an additional $50, you can also get any old equipment (if you're replacing an older exercise bike) hauled away. There isn't a middle tier of just "room of choice" delivery, like we've seen at other brands, so the price jump is pretty high for shipping options here.

Costly return fees

NordicTrack offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. However, this does not mean free returns. If you want to send back your NordicTrack exercise bike, you can expect to pay a $250 shipping charge (even if you secured free shipping before) and a 10% restocking fee. While this is slightly less than some of the other brands that charge for restocking and shipping, it's still a decent amount to return something and get, essentially, a partial refund.

Technical issues if you cancel iFIT

NordicTrack has a stellar "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. However, according to our research, it doesn't do quite as well with reviewers. Feedback on third-party review sites like Trustpilot shows that NordicTrack averages around 2.7 stars out of 5. Customers who left reviews within a few days of our review noted that the technology is slow (the touchscreen isn't very responsive), products stop working or need repairs within a few months, and it is frustrating to use in manual mode for those who canceled their costly iFIT subscription after their exercise bike purchase. This is where many customers ran into slow technology and lagging touchscreens.

Needs more usability without iFIT

NordicTrack is a decent option, but it's costly for what you get. With customers saying that you get a lackluster experience with a mechanical device when you cancel the iFIT membership (which is a required subscription to buy the exercise bikes), it doesn't seem reasonable to pay over $1,000 for an exercise bike that comes with problems. While the brand has a more reliable reputation than some, we'd still like to see NordicTrack work on creating machines that don't need repairs as often, and don't lag if you don't want a fitness membership.

What is the Best Brand of Exercise Bikes?

Thinking about improving your fitness this year? Considering the pros and cons of gym time and the hassle of finding home gym equipment? Don't worry, we get the feeling. While the gym seems convenient, it's usually packed, and you're almost always waiting for someone to finish their workout (especially if you prefer the exercise bikes' more joint-friendly cardio like we do).

Plus, with all the extra costs and the need to build drive time into your exercise regimen, it's hard to stay consistent and really get those gains. So, instead of fighting the crowds for your fitness goals, you can grab a home-gym setup instead. Nothing is easier than starting with an exercise bike from a top manufacturer.

Exercise bikes, otherwise known as stationary bikes, are a tried and true cardio workout that gets you the results you need, all while comfortably seated. You can torch calories while you work on your calves, glutes, and quads, as well as get all the benefits of heart-pumping cardio. The best part is that it protects your body from unnecessary strain and wear.

Exercise bikes are gentle on your joints, unlike running on a treadmill or other workout plans that jolt and rattle your knees or ankles. They offer a smooth, fluid ride that targets what you want without any worries about joint pain in the future. There are tons of health benefits to choosing an at-home exercise bike as well. The simple at-home workout can boost energy levels, improve heart health, improve lung capacity, and help you keep focused at your job and daily tasks.

Finding the right exercise bike can take a little trial and error. There are so many different brands and styles out there that it can be hard to know if you're getting the high-end studio cycle of your dreams - or something that's going to wind out at the curb with a "FREE" sign in a year or two. But whether you want something more space-saving and budget-friendly, or an exercise bike with all the latest gadgets, apps, and connectivity, there are plenty of options out there. Smart bikes are getting more and more popular, so you can get a balance of features without overdoing it on cost.

The easiest way to get exactly what you need is to browse for your new "ride" online. This way, you don't have to deal with pushy salespeople or feel like you have to try out your machine in front of a bunch of other shoppers. Shopping through different exercise bike brands online makes it simple. You can take your time, explore the different specs and options, and find the perfect bike for your home gym. Some of the higher-quality options may be a bit of an investment upfront, but they will pay for themselves when you don't have to cover monthly charges for a gym membership over time.

If you're ready to start pedaling toward your fitness goals, but aren't sure where to start, don't worry - we've done the work for you. Here are some factors you'll want to keep in mind as you find a reliable exercise bike for your fitness dreams:

Getting an exercise bike is a great way to take that first step (or pedal, rather) toward a new and healthier you. To help you get the fitness equipment of your dreams, Top Consumer Reviews has researched and ranked the top brands for exercise bikes on the market today. This way, you can take control of your gym time at home without any added stress or costs, and create a fitness path that's all your own!

Exercise Bike FAQ

Why choose an exercise bike?
There are plenty of reasons that people buy an exercise bike for home use. For people with balance or mobility issues who still want a good cardio workout, bikes are a much better option than a treadmill or elliptical machine. They also take up much less room, are more portable/movable, and easier to maintain than larger pieces of cardio equipment.
Which bike is better: upright or recumbent?
That's up to you. Recumbent bikes have a seat like a chair, and the pedals are in front of you; they're the exercise bike of choice for people with joint and back issues. Upright bikes offer more flexibility in your workout: you can ride seated or pedal standing up for a more intense experience.
How much do exercise bikes cost?
As with most products, the more features an exercise bike has, the more it will cost. You can get a basic, entry-level model for under $500 - or pay $7,000+ for one that has every bell and whistle imaginable (but it won't do the exercise for you!).
Will I pay a lot for shipping?
How does "free" sound? Many retailers include delivery in the price of the exercise bike. That definitely beats trying to lug it home from a brick-and-mortar store in your car!
Are exercise bikes hard to assemble?
Not necessarily. Most manufacturers have step-by-step instructions and even videos for how to put your bike together. You can also purchase professional installation/set-up from some retailers, either with their in-house team or through a third-party partner.
Can I return my exercise bike if I don't like it?
That depends on the store. Some offer no return policy whatsoever, while others give you 30-60 days to try your bike and decide if you want to keep it. Even then, you may still be responsible for return shipping costs and/or restocking fees.
Will my exercise bike have a warranty?
Most bikes come with warranty coverage, usually with longer protection on the higher-end models. You may have lifetime coverage of the frame and brakes, 1-3 years on parts and electronics, and 90 days to 3 years on associated labor costs - but the specifics vary by manufacturer and bike model. Some retailers offer extended warranty plans as well.
Will I have access to live/on-demand workouts with my exercise bike?
That's one of the hottest trends in the fitness industry, and many bikes come with some kind of workout option with live coaching or on-demand classes. But, even if your bike doesn't, there are plenty of apps you can subscribe to and follow along on your own; you just need to have a way to see your phone, tablet or TV from wherever you position your exercise bike!
