On the Eyeconic website

Eyeconic is a reputable store with high-quality frames and lenses. They make good glasses that are similar to what you'd find from your local eye doctor. This also means that their prices are higher than many other online eyeglass stores we've found - unless you have VSP or MetLife insurance that will cover a good portion of your order total. Eyeconic has a 30-day return policy, hundreds of genuine reviews on their website, and a great selection of styles. If you want something that is guaranteed to be high-quality, this is a great destination for that. However, it is a more costly option and some people will want to look elsewhere if low prices are a priority.

Glasseslit is a large eyeglass wholesaler based out of Asia. They have extremely low prices on their frames for men, women, and kids, but you'll pay a fair amount by the time you add in your lens customizations. The Glasseslit website has some errors that give it a less-than professional feel, but they do have an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and mostly high reviews from customers. Glasseslit is reported to have poor customer service communication in some instances and some quality issues, so they've received an average rating from us.

ABBE has hundreds of frames available at their online store for as low as $3. The company is headquartered in China and provides frames and lenses for shockingly inexpensive prices. Everything appears to be great, but they don't have any detailed information about the 90-day guarantee or 30-day returns that they boast about on their site. The company has an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau and reviews that feel fake, both on their website and third-party sites. We're not confident in ABBE, so you may want to buy your eyeglasses from a higher-ranked store.

On the Eyeglasses website

Eyeglasses has a comprehensive website with a huge inventory and a lot of descriptive information about themselves that makes them seem like a top place to find quality eyeglasses. Their prices seem to reflect high-quality and they even work with quite a few insurance companies. Unfortunately, customers say that their products are cheaply made and don't live up to expectations. The cons of shopping here (based on buyer experience) far outweigh the possibility of a great pair of glasses, so it's safest to shop at a higher-rated store instead.

What Are the Best Places to Buy Eyeglasses?

Since over half of the US population uses some sort of vision correction, eyeglasses are an important purchase that people make every year or so. Some need them for day-to-day living so that they can safely drive a car, sharpen their focus throughout their day, and be able to see at a good distance. Others develop a need for eyeglasses as they age so they can see up close when reading, crafting, or working on a computer.

Although eyeglasses are a medical necessity for certain people, they're also quite a fashion statement and we've adopted many fun styles as a society. You can get eyeglasses of all colors, shapes, and corrective lens powers. Some people may think that wearing eyeglasses makes them look older or more mature and wise; others feel like it adds a fun flair to their outfit.

You could choose to switch between contact and eyeglasses on any given day, depending on what activities you're doing and what you'll be wearing. The traditional method of buying eyeglasses includes meeting with an optometrist and having some eye tests run to see what strength of lenses you need in order to have at least 20/20 vision. From there, they'll let you choose eyeglass frames based on what selection they have in their office, and then they'll send them in for a company to create the lenses and place them inside.

Sometimes insurance will cover part of these expenses, but it's usually still the most expensive route to go. If you already have a current prescription, there are ways to get new frames and lenses without having to go through an eye doctor. Shopping online gives you a much bigger selection than you'll find anywhere else with prices that are affordable enough to allow you more than one pair if you want them.

Many online stores have a virtual mirror so you can see what shapes and sizes of glasses will look the best on your face. You can input the prescription you need and the online store will send your glasses to be made and then ship them straight to your doorstep when they're done.

There are quite a few eyeglass stores to choose from online. There are some important things to pay attention to when selecting a store to ensure that your glasses come out exactly as you hoped they would. You don't want wonky lenses that are going to give you a headache or flimsy frames that are going to break the first time they get dropped. We've analyzed the pros and cons of your different eyeglass store options to help you find appealing, high-quality products.

We recommend taking the following points into consideration to help you find the best store to go with:

The experts at Top Consumer Reviews have researched the best eyeglass stores available to you. We hope this information helps you find a pair that will give you confidence and improve your vision so you can feel your best all day long!

Eyeglass Store FAQ

What type of frame styles are there?
When shopping online, style options are limitless. Popular styles today include rectangle, brow line, wayframe, round, cat eye, rimless, and more. Be sure to choose a frame that fits your face shape.
Is there a virtual eyeglasses application available?
Of course, some companies offer a software that allows you to upload a photo of yourself that will virtually allow you to try on the desired frames. Choosing a company with this feature gives you the ease of online shopping and provides confidence in your purchase.
Can I use my vision insurance to buy glasses online?
Yes! If you are wanting to use your insurance to fund your eyewear, make sure the company you select accepts your insurance. Some companies that do not offer insurance coverage can provide a detailed copy of your invoice to allow you to process a reimbursement claim.
What is "PD"? How do I measure it?
Pupillary Distance, or PD, is the distance in millimeters between the center of one pupil to the other pupil. Your PD is usually included in your prescription and can also be measured easily if not. When measuring you will need to find a PD ruler that you can print out. You will then place the ruler directly and horizontally over the center of the right pupil. To add ease, place the ruler against your forehead for added stability and stand in front of a mirror. Once the ruler is stable and while looking straight ahead, the distance from the center of your right pupil to the center of your left pupil. If you are unsure of your measurement, repeat a couple times for better accuracy.
What type of lenses are there?
There are 3 main types of lenses, single-vision, bifocal lenses with line, and progressive lenses with no line. Single-vision lenses are the standard eyeglass prescription that only have one viewing area throughout the entire lens and the correctional area can be for far distance, mid distance or reading. Bifocal lenses are a type of lens that has two points of focus. Progressive lenses are the closest your eyes will get to having natural vision with prescription eyeglasses.
How long does it take to receive my glasses? Is there free shipping?
After you order your glasses, it can take up to 10 business days to receive your new prescription. Some companies have a process time for creating the lenses that takes up to 6 days, not including the shipping time. When it comes to cost, most companies offer free shipping within the US and Canada, but international shipping prices may vary. There are options to upgrade shipping in the US that costs from $9.95 to $12.95.
My glasses broke is there a warranty available?
Accidently sat on your glasses? Accidents happen all the time which is why getting a pair of frames that have coverage is a necessity. Types of coverage includes prescription changes, repairs, and damage only from normal wear and tear. On average most companies offer a 365-day manufacturer's warranty on the frames only. Some companies have a no questions asked return policy normally for the first 14 - 30 days upon purchase. With eyeglasses being an expensive purchase, be sure to identify a company's policies before finalizing your order.
Is there a customer satisfaction guarantee?
If you receive your glasses, and your frame doesn't fit the way you thought it would, a full refund is often available if returned within the required time frame. If your prescription is the issue, companies will recommend returning the glasses and contacting your eye doctor to adjust your prescription. With eyeglasses being expensive, be sure to identify a company's policies before finalizing your purchase.
