Buying fabric online can be a convenient and cost-effective way to purchase materials for your sewing projects or textile projects. There are many online retailers that sell a wide variety of fabrics, ranging from natural fibers like cotton and silk to synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon. Plus, they give you the advantage of shopping for fabrics from the comfort of your home or office.
One of the advantages of online fabric stores is that they offer a wider selection of fabrics than many brick-and-mortar stores, and they are often able to source unique and hard-to-find fabrics. Online fabric stores may also offer related products such as sewing notions, patterns, and trims. They may also have a section for clearance fabrics or offer sales and discounts periodically. They also usually provide fast shipping options, and some may offer free shipping for orders over a certain amount.
Monday, March 27th
If you are looking for a fabric store with a visually-appealing website, NY Designer Fabrics is it. As you can guess by the company name, they are based in New York. They specialize in high-end women's fashion fabrics, keeping up with the latest designer fabrics, color trends, classic and time-tested designs and everything in between. These high-end fabrics even come at an affordable price tag.
Try a swatch for $2
When looking at the fabric here, we didn't find a solid cotton for comparison. NY Designer Fabrics' digital print cotton costs $24.95 per yard. They recommend you spend $2 and order a fabric swatch before purchasing a full order. The website includes the product code, color, width, content, fabric care instructions, pattern, country of manufacture, what it's suitable for and a fabric estimator. When looking at the different types of fabric, they offer fashion fabrics, home decor fabrics, linen, tulle, lace, embroidery, sequin embroidery, special collections, prints and accessories.
Fabric estimator
NY Designer Fabrics offers a fabric estimator so you can best guess how much to order. You can use it for blouses and tops, skirts, dresses, pants & shorts, coats & jackets and bags. They break down into subcategories within each of these to help you make the best guesstimate.
Free shipping on orders over $200
If you want to get free shipping with NY Designer Fabrics, you will need to spend $200. They use USPS First Class Mail, which comes with no tracking. However, you can upgrade to UPS/FedEx Ground or Express for an additional fee. Fabrics will be shipped out the same day in most cases, but it can take up to 48 hours to ship. If there are any delays due to inventory, they will contact the customer. They ship to the entire United States plus Puerto Rico, Canada and the United Kingdom. If you live elsewhere, you can contact them and they may be able to support you.
Limited returns
If you are hoping to return unused fabric or change your mind, they do not accept returns on most fabric orders. If they had to cut fabric yardage from a roll, it is not returnable. This also applies to any fabrics that have been cut, altered or tailored in any way. If you have been shorted fabric, you must report it within 7 days of delivery. Their handmade fabrics are not guaranteed against varying textures, colorfastness, exact color or texture matching or durability. If your fabric does not fall under one of these categories and you wish to return it, you will need to call them and request a Return Invoice Number.
Ways to save
If you are hoping to save a little on your fabric, sign up with NY Designer Fabrics and they will send you exclusive offers. They also advertise once-in-a-lifetime deals. If you click on the pink present at the bottom of the website, it will sign you up for their rewards program. You earn 25 points just for joining. You can earn 5 points per $1 spent. If you sign up for their mailing list, you will earn 50 points. Add your birthday and earn 500 points. If you refer friends, you will earn 1,000 points. You can quickly get these to add up to discounts. To redeem, you can get a $5 voucher for 500 points, $10 voucher for 1,000 points and a $15 voucher for 1500 points. To get the 1,000 points for referring a friend, they must sign up and spend over $100. By referring them, they will earn $10 off their first purchase with the provided code.
Reviews are few but fantastic
There are not an excessive number of reviews out there for NY Designer Fabrics, but the ones that exist are fantastic. Customers are happy with ordering, pricing, service and delivery. We couldn't locate a single negative review for the online storefront. On one site with customer reviews, 100% of customers said they would buy here again. One customer says that the quality of the fabric was exactly what she was looking for. She was even more impressed with the quality of the shopping experience. The company went above and beyond to make sure she got the correct fabric by a tight deadline. Another customer raved about how well informed the customer service is. The number of positive reviews is plentiful.
Top fabric store
The overwhelming number of positive reviews goes to show that NY Designer Fabrics knows what they are doing and cares about their customers. They have quick shipping to help make deadlines that you may have. Their large selection and the ability to order fabric swatches is great for making sure you get the fabric you need. Make sure you sign up for their rewards program, as we have a feeling you will be returning time and time again to order fabric for future projects. We are pleased to award NY Designer Fabrics our top ranking.
If you're a quilter looking to buy fabric from an online store staffed by experts, Connecting Threads is the place for you. The company has an in-house team of designers that releases exclusive patterns regularly, working directly with the manufacturers to bring you "high-quality quilting fabric at factory-direct prices" . Connecting Threads also works with some well-known manufacturers like Andover, Maywood Studio, Clothworks, and Riley Blake Designs.
Affordable pricing and small minimum order requirement
When you choose a fabric you like, you'll be able to see plenty of details, from the material it's made of to any available customer reviews. Most fabrics here have a minimum order of 1/2 yard, with basic solids usually at a starting price of $6.96/yard.
Check out the coordinated collections
Our favorite way to shop for fabric here is by going to the main Quilting Fabric page and browsing the coordinated collections. At the time of this review, some of Connecting Threads' newest selections that caught our eye were Water Babies by Sugarly Designs for Studio E Fabrics (all ocean-type themes but in an unusual brown/gray/gold palette you don't usually associate with an aquatic motif), Opulent Floral by Michael Miller Fabrics, and Frost & Flourish by Connecting Threads itself.
Plenty of precuts and samplers
Another easy-peasy route you could choose is the Precuts & Samplers section of the store. Most options are fat quarter samplers, but you can also find fat eighths, 5" and 10" squares, half yards, and more. This fabric store also carries all of the extras you'll need for quilting, like backing, thread, needles and more. You'll find all of those links at the top of the site.
Sign up for emails to save money
Look for a pop-up (or click on the blue triangle in the bottom left corner of the site that says "Get 15% off" ) when visiting the Connecting Threads site. If you enter your email address and your birthday month, you'll get a 15% discount code on your first order. Subsequent emails will give you sale updates, crafting tips and inspiration on a weekly basis.
Help is readily available
Check out the Learning Center if you need inspiration for a new project or guidance if you're not the most experienced quilter. Connecting Threads offers tons of help if you need it, including availability via phone, email, and live chat during regular business hours.
90-day return policy
The return policy at this online fabric store is generous. You've got 90 days to return your purchase for any reason, and if it's your first order, the $6.99 return shipping fee will be covered by Connecting Threads. You can actually return items after that 90-day window, but you'll pay a 25% restocking fee.
Thousands of five-star reviews
Because Connecting Threads isn't a high-volume fabric store, the Better Business Bureau doesn't have enough feedback to issue a rating. Its parent company, Crafts Americana Group, does have an "A+" rating there, with no complaints filed. Beyond the BBB, many customers praise the quality of the fabric, fast shipping speed, and fantastic customer service - while others have complaints about exactly the same things, saying that orders took forever to arrive, the fabric was much lower quality than expected, and getting help from a Connecting Threads rep was nearly impossible. However, those complaints don't line up with our experience and that of thousands of happy customers.
Loyal repeat customers
We had no trouble reaching someone via the store's toll-free number during regular business hours. Connecting Threads also has over 6,000 five-star ratings, with less than 3% of its shoppers giving it a three-star rating or lower. Most compelling are the reviews from customers who say they've shopped at this online fabric store for years and have never had anything but an excellent experience.
Best online fabric store for quilters
For quilters looking for exclusive designs and excellent customer service, Connecting Threads is a fantastic fabric store. We had no trouble finding everything we were looking for, and customer service here has an excellent reputation overall (despite a handful of complaints). Although you'll have to shop elsewhere if you're looking for other types of fabric - for upholstery, clothing, and so on - you won't want to miss what Connecting Threads has to offer if quilting is your specialty.
Mood Fabrics was featured on the show Project Runway. They are a large online fabric store offering a wide selection of premium fabrics. The company also has 3 big box stores located in New York City, Los Angeles and Miami.
Large selection of fabric
The fabric is sold by the yard, but the minimum purchase requirement is only 1/2 yard. These include lace, linen, silk, brocades, denim, chiffon, cotton, crepe and satin. There is also a blog that has sewing tips and fashion articles, as well as free sewing patterns to download online. When looking at the website, make note that CL stands for clearance and R stands for reorderable. For clearance fabric, once it's gone, it's gone.
Swatches available for purchase
When you are trying to decide if a fabric is the right color or has the correct feel, you are able to order a sample. If you are concerned that the fabric will sell out in the meanwhile, Mood Fabrics recommends that you call their customer service to see how much is in stock.
Deals to save
When going to the Mood Fabrics website, you should receive a pop-up offering you 15% off your first order. Simply put in your email address and sign up for their marketing. There is also a sale tab on the website which will have fabrics at up to 50% off. These patterns are gone forever once they sell out, so make sure you have enough to complete your project. You can also join the rewards program and earn mood points. All you need to do is register your account and start earning. You will earn 1 mood point for every dollar you spend. To redeem, 500 mood points is equal to $25, and will be redeemed in $25 increments. Points earned online may only be redeemed online and points earned at the retail store can only be used in-store.
Limited returns
Mood Fabric offers a very limited return policy, so we strongly encourage you to get a sample swatch before placing an order. Fabrics cannot be returned. Accessories you order may be returned but must be unopened. These returns will have shipping costs deducted from the total refund. Any returns need to be made within 30 days of receiving the product.
How it ships
Mood Fabrics ships to all 50 states as well as APO/FPO addresses. If your order is in the U.S. Territories or an APO/FPO address, it will be shipped via USPS or UPS. Orders shipping outside of the United States will be shipped via UPS i-Parcel. Their orders are typically processed within 72 hours, Monday through Friday. After your product ships, allow 1-7 business days for it to arrive. Express shipping is an option at checkout for an additional fee. The cutoff time to get the Express Shipping is 1pm EST.
Wholesale pricing option
If you plan to purchase at least 20 yards of fabric, you are able to create a wholesale account and purchase at a cheaper rate. Some fabrics do require more than 20 yards for this option, so double check before you purchase. To make the wholesale account, call the New York store at 212-730-5003.
Mood insider
Mood Fabrics offers a membership to those who wish to join. The cost is $100 per year. For this price, you will get free shipping on all orders, an extra 20% off sale items, $1 swatches, exclusive access to remnants, early access to sales and early access to new arrivals. Your membership will renew automatically on your anniversary date, so if you do not wish to continue, remember to cancel.
Customers have mixed feelings
When it comes to looking at how Mood Fabrics customers feel about the store, the feelings are mixed. One customer raves about how fast their fabric arrives and how much they love it. Another says they have helpful and knowledgeable customer service. Someone shared that they were frustrated by the company running out of fabric and sending them a partial order instead of what was needed to complete the craft. There are numerous negative reviews from 2020 about their customer service not being helpful, but we all can understand that every business struggled at that time. We could not find anything more current on this issue, so we're fairly confident it was a limited problem and Mood Fabrics is back to (good) business as usual.
Strong choice
Mood Fabrics is a strong choice when it comes to purchasing fabric. They have many ways to save between coupons, membership, wholesale options, sale items and mood points. They have fast shipping of the fabric, and customers appear to be mostly pleased with their orders. The lack of a return policy on fabric is the one significant downside that keeps Mood Fabrics from earning our highest rating, but we still recommend this online fabric store.
When thinking of a craft store, JoAnn Fabrics is one of the first stores that comes to mind. The store was founded in 1943 as a single store, and today it is the leading fabric and craft specialty store in the nation. They have approximately 850 stores in 49 states plus a robust online storefront you can browse from home.
Almost 30,000 choices
When it comes to having a wide variety of fabric, JoAnn's is the place to look. They have quilt cotton fabric, customizable fabric, keepsake calico cotton fabric, super snuggle flannel, licensed cotton fabric, novelty cotton fabric, precut fabrics, premium cotton fabric, team cotton, multi-purpose decor fabric, anti-pill plush fleece, quilter's showcase cotton fabric, Jacquard fabric, blizzard fleece and outdoor fabric. This online fabric store really does have something for everyone.
Affordable pricing
JoAnn offers affordable pricing on their fabrics. Plain cotton, single color fabric is $7.99 per yard, but we saw some patterns on sale even cheaper. The more you purchase, the more you can save. If you spend $75, you will get 10% off and if you spend $125, you will get 15% off your order. If you purchase a bolt of 10 yards, you will save an additional 10%. The minimum number of yards to order varies per fabric.
Website gives you the details you need
When looking at a fabric to order, JoAnn's website has the required minimum yards, ways to get it (ship to you or pick up in store) and a description of the fabric. The description includes the width, content, care, if it's reorderable and the bolt size.
Ways to save
When you first go to JoAnn's website, there is a pop-up. If you enter your e-mail address, you will receive special offers and an extra 25% off your first order. They have a section in their drop-down menu that offers coupons and the weekly sales ad. You are able to find more discounts here. Typically, you are not able to use a coupon on any sale item, so keep that in mind if you were hoping to double stack. JoAnn's also offers discounts for teachers, military and healthcare workers. This discount is 15% and you just need to sign up on their website.
$1.99 shipping
At the time of this review, JoAnn's was offering $1.99 shipping, simply by hitting apply at the top of the website. When we did that, we got to choose between 25% off any order online/pick-up in-store purchase or $1.99 flat rate shipping. The discount was applied to both regular and sale-priced items. Exclusions included doorbusters and clearance. There was also an additional $1.95 handling fee. Orders ship within 1-3 business days and should be delivered within 6-10 business days. For curbside and in-store pick-up, as long as you place your order by 3pm, it is free and your order will be ready the same day.
Return any time, hassle-free
There is no return date limit for JoAnn's. You may return at any time without hassle. If you choose to return your fabric to the store, there are no associated fees. If you choose to return a sewing machine, there is a $25 restocking fee. If you do not have your receipt when making a return, you may exchange the item or take store credit, and the amount you receive for store credit will be based on the lowest price in the last 90 days. If you wish to return by mail, you may fill out the "Contact Us" form. They will refund the cost of the fabric minus a $7.95 return shipping and handling fee. Refunds are sent to the original form of payment.
Low rating from customers
JoAnn's has a "B" rating from the Better Business Bureau. When looking at what customers have to say, JoAnn falls short with 1.5 stars. Customers state that when problems arise, they are given the runaround. They are being told to email someone else and when they send that one they get told to email someone else yet again. Another customer complained that every time they try to order with over 30 items in their cart, it glitches and deletes everything, forcing them to start over. This can become frustrating. There are also a large number of complaints on orders being canceled without notice.
Choose what is important
When it comes to shopping for fabric at JoAnn's, you will need to choose what is important to you. They have an excellent return policy, but it can be difficult to accomplish that when getting the runaround. They have the option to pick-up in-store or to ship to you for $1.99, but orders get canceled often. You will need to decide for yourself if the many pros outweigh the frustrating cons at JoAnn's.
Fabric 5 & Dime sells remnant fabrics at $5 per yard and cut yardage at a discount of 5-40% off retail prices. They are able to keep their prices affordable by acquiring overstock fabric at discount prices. They then pass on that savings to their customers. The company began in 2015 as a sister company of Boca Bargoons, which has been in business for over 30 years. The company has 4,000+ fabrics in circulation at a time.
Limited quantities
Due to Fabric 5 & Dime acquiring overstock fabric, the quantity of what you can order is limited. They can't go and reorder when they run out. So, make sure there is enough inventory in stock for your crafting project before you order. If there is a fabric you really need more of, you can contact them. They say they will try their best to locate more, but it isn't a guarantee.
Fabric information
When looking at the website to purchase fabric, there are many options to narrow down your search. We looked at a solid fabric, which cost $8.99 per yard. The website says how many yards are available, the full price of the fabric if you buy it out (this one was $77), color, pattern, fabric type and weight. You may also opt for a sample of the product before committing.
Free fabric samples
If you can't decide if a fabric is right for you, Fabric 5 & Dime offers a free sample. Up front you will pay $4.50 per sample. As long as you purchase that fabric within 100 days of receiving your sample, they will credit the cost to your order. Make sure you have created an account and request your sample through it. Guest accounts will not receive the credit towards future purchases.
Daily deals
If you like a good deal, be sure to check the website often. Fabrics 5 & Dime selects 50 items every day and places them into the daily deals section. These are picked at random and the deal is only available for that day, so don't hesitate if you see a pattern you like. You may not apply a promo code to these items and they increase your minimum shipping requirements (see more about that in the next paragraph).
Free shipping over $99
When purchasing fabric from Fabric 5 & Dime, keep in mind that you will be eligible for free shipping if you spend $99 or more. If your order includes a daily deal item, then the minimum shipping jumps to $149. The company ships to the continental United States. You can email them if you would like to ship internationally. They ship from the southeastern part of the United States, so depending on your location and shipping method choice (UPS Ground or USPS Priority Mail), you can expect your fabric in 2-6 business days. They also ship from 2 different warehouses, so your order may come in multiple packages.
10-day return policy
Fabric 5 & Dime offers a 10-day return policy, one of the shorter return policies we have seen. Fabrics must be returned in their original condition. They recommend inspecting your fabric immediately upon arrival because no returns will be accepted after the 10 days. There will be a 15% restocking fee and you will be responsible to pay the shipping both ways. If you received free shipping, they will calculate a delivery fee and deduct that from the return.
Limited reviews
Fabric Five & Dime does not have a rating with the Better Business Bureau. However, their sister company Boca Bargoons does, and they have earned an "A+" rating with no complaints. The actual fabric company has very limited customer reviews. There are a few on their social media page, which are positive. So, you will be taking a chance when ordering.
Decent choice
When looking to purchase fabric online, this company is a decent option. The only concerns would be the 10-day return policy (so act quickly) and the lack of customer reviews. Other than that, Fabric 5 & Dime has a lot of positives when looking for a store to purchase fabric. It could be worth ordering the free sample from your logged in account and giving them a try. Worst case, you are out $4.50 but best case, you get a great deal on the fabric for your next project.
Online Fabric Store offers thousands of fabrics for projects from apparel to decor and everything in between. They are based in New England and are backed by a family that has over 60 years of experience in the fabric industry. They advertise that they have a longstanding relationship with vendors and mills. This will allow them to bring high quality and hard- to-find fabrics to you.
Easy-to-navigate online store
When you go to the Online Fabric Store website, you can shop by color, brand, design, use, product type or characteristic. If you scroll to the bottom of the website, there is a section labeled OFS Makers Mill. Under this option, you will find how to's, articles, tips and tricks, inspiration and product guides. They also offer useful links where you can find fabric remnants. In addition, you can use their drapery and upholstery yardage calculators to make sure you order the correct amount.
Plenty of fabric details
Solid cotton fabric at Online Fabric Store will cost you approximately $7.45 per yard. The website includes a place to request a sample. It also has the product ID, manufacturer, content, width, thread count and weight. There is a paragraph detailing the fabric and how it looks and feels. They also have features of the fabric, common uses, care and the maximum continuous length. If you order more than the maximum continuous length, it will most likely arrive cut.
Fabric samples
Online Fabric Store offers fabric samples to make sure you like the fabric. If a product has a sample, you will just click the add sample button. They are typically 4x4" cuts. These ship for free within the United States. Canada has a shipping fee of $2.50. Any other international destination will have a $5.00 shipping fee.
Deals and discounts
If you add your email to the pop-up when you go to their website, you can save 10% and get exclusive orders. They also have a clearance section where you can find fabric up to 75% off its original price.
Shipping estimates
To find out how much it will cost to ship your fabric within the United States, you may enter your zip code on the cart page and click estimate. Please note that this is an estimate and could change. Standard freight is capped at $13.95, but expedited shipping rates could cost more. If you reside outside of the United States or have a P.O. box, your shipping rate will be quoted when you enter your shipping address at checkout. The fabric typically ships from Massachusetts, but it is possible that it could ship from other warehouses too.
30-day return policy
If you are not satisfied with a purchase, you may return it within 30 days of the original ship date. To make a return, the fabric must be uncut and in the original, unaltered condition. Fabrics made by Robert Allen, Beacon Hill, Kravet, Pindler & Pindler, Fabricut, Trend, Mitchell, JF Fabrics, Clarke & Clarke, Gaston y Daniela, Ralph Lauren, ABBEYSHEA and Ultrafabrics are not eligible for returns. Also, fabric samples cannot be returned.
Issues with stock and shipping
Online Fabric Store has earned an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, there are multiple complaints that reference shipping delays and out of stock products on the BBB listing. This trend appears to continue on other websites. A lot of these reviews are from 2020 and 2021, when we know that pandemic issues and supply-chain problems were possibly to blame, but there are also numerous complaints that are more recent.
More negative reviews than positive
Online Fabric Store overall has significantly more negative reviews than positive ones. One of the most common complaints is that they have fabric backordered and do not communicate this to the customers. To find out where their orders are, customers contact Online Fabric Store numerous times before receiving communication back. And yet, there are some positive reviews where customers receive their order quickly, with the correct yardage. One customer said their fabric was 40% less than other sites and they are glad they gave Online Fabric Store a chance.
Still worth a look?
While Online Fabric Store has quite a few negative reviews, don't write them off completely. A majority of the complaints dealing with inventory and shipping were in the heat of the pandemic when there were worldwide shipping issues. With a 30-day return policy, wide selection and fabric samples, this retailer is worth trying if they have the fabric you need in stock. Plus, they are cheaper than many competitors, so you could get what you need and save some money when ordering from Online Fabric Store.
Spoonflower offers over 10,000 fabric options on their website. The company was founded by Stephan Fraser and Gart Davis about 14 years ago. It began when Stephan's wife was frustrated she couldn't find a yellow fabric with oversized polka dots for drapes. He felt there should be a website that allowed customers to make a few yards of customized fabric. They began as a fabric-by-the-yard store and have branched out into wallpaper and home decor.
Fill-A-Yard
The most unique aspect of the Spoonflower website is the ability to custom design your fabric. To do this, go to Fill-A-Yard and then follow the instructions. You will find or create a collection, choose your template and arrange your designs. When filling a yard, you can do a vertical or horizontal split and you will get up to 2 designs in 1 yard. If you choose to fill a project, you can make cheater quilts, an infinity scarf or dinner napkins.
Make money with Spoonflower
If you upload your own design to Spoonflower, you can actually make money. By adding it to the Marketplace, other customers can purchase your design. When uploading your design, you will be required to agree to copyright agreements. You may not upload anything you do not own the copyrights to. Also on Spoonflower, you can enter into weekly design challenges and win prizes.
Fabric details
When shopping for your fabric, there are many categories including style, animals, nature, novelty, occasion, seasonal, holidays and projects. You can also search by color, fabric type, solid fabric and samples. We looked at a solid pink cotton fabric. At the time of this review, it was on sale for $8.40 per yard but is normally $15.20 per yard. Spoonflower offers Afterpay for orders between $35 and $2,000. This will split your total into 4 equal payments. The website has multiple pictures of the fabric and 3 size options. You can shop the designer's collection and see who that person is. They include the design number, use, color and estimated shrinkage. It states that this fabric will be made to order in 2-4 days.
Spin to win
When you first go to the Spoonflower website, there will be a pop-up allowing you to "Spin for Gold" . This will give you either 6, 10, 15 or 20% off your order. We spun and got 20% off. After you spin, it will ask if you are most interested in wallpaper, home decor, fabric or a mixture of them all. You will also need to enter your email address. This discount cannot be combined with any other offer. Spoonflower also offers sale prices throughout their website.
No returns
Due to the fact that every Spoonflower fabric is print-on-demand, they are unable to accept returns. The company encourages you to order a test swatch first. This will allow you to check the product type, color, layout and design scale. Only if your fabric arrives flawed or damaged will Spoonflower replace or refund it. You will have 60 days to request this.
International shipping
Spoonflower prints their fabric and ships from facilities in the United States. The only locations they cannot ship to are Belarus, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Russia, Somalia, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen. Their shipping rates are calculated based on the product and amount you order, the destination and delivery option. You can see the cost as you go through the checkout process. They offer standard delivery which will take between 1-2 weeks in the United States and 2-5 weeks Internationally. They also have Guaranteed delivery and Rush delivery which come with extra fees.
Low quality
Spoonflower has earned an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. And yet, there are various complaints on the website from customers receiving the wrong orders, unhappy with their product, getting someone else's orders and refund issues. Spoonflower responded with how they resolved each of these issues. One customer states that they purchased from Sunflower in the past but quite some time has passed. They recently put in an order and the shipping was much faster than before, however the print quality has gone down. They said their design looks blurry or as if the colors have bled. Another customer says that you need to wash and iron the fabric before use, which causes distortion of the images. There are also multiple complaints about the fabric being rough and scratchy. When looking for fabric, softness is a big deal, so keep this in mind.
Great for custom fabric
If you are looking for a custom fabric for your next craft project, then give Spoonflower a try. Make sure you order a swatch to make sure it prints and feels like you are hoping. Otherwise, you could be in for some disappointment based on other customers' reviews. This issue plus the expensive shipping and no returns has earned Spoonflower a lower ranking. It's a cool concept, so hopefully in the future they improve their print quality.
The Fabric Hut is based in Dover, Delaware. They specialize in fabrics for quilters as well as other sewing projects, providing innovative products at low prices. They focus on offering quality products and friendly customer service to everyone who goes to their website. They offer a chat pop-up on their website, so someone can assist you through the entire process if you need.
Small inventory
When looking at the inventory for The Fabric Hut, we noticed it is significantly less than other fabric stores. For yardage fabric, there are only 50 options. There are 105 options for pre-cuts. Compared to other companies having thousands of options to choose from, this can be underwhelming. Their site is also difficult to search for a specific type of fabric. The filter button did nothing, so we had to search specific fabric types in the search bar instead.
Small inventory, but lots of other features
The Fabric Hut offers pre-cut fabric, yardage, tools, blades and rotary cutters. We looked at a solid purple fabric, which will cost $23.94 per 1/2 yard. This seems rather pricey compared to other stores since it is only a 1/2 yard of fabric. The first thing you see as you look at the fabric is an email if you need help. They then list the length, width and material. They also tell you how they cut the fabric. Next you will find the specifications, which include style, pattern, feature, type, material, weight, length, width, color, uses, manufacturer and designer. If you go to their Facebook page, you'll see the company's private group with 7.7k members who discuss all things related to sewing.
100% guarantee against defective fabrics
The Fabric Hut stands behind their products with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not 100% satisfied due to a defect, they will provide you with a full refund. Their returns include free return shipping and no restocking fee. You just need to start the return within 60 days. They also have a best price guarantee. If you find a cheaper, similar product within 24 hours of placing your order, they will give you twice the difference.
Returns for non-faulty products
If your fabric arrives and is not faulty, you can get a partial refund. They will either allow you to keep the item or return it depending on what their system says. They will issue a partial refund and shipping fees will need to be covered by you for both ways. The fabric must be in the same condition you received it and in the original packaging. You will have 60 days to utilize this return offer.
Free shipping over $75
If you spend over $75, you can earn free shipping from The Fabric Hut, or pay $4.99 to ship within the United States if you spend less than $75. These orders will arrive in 2 to 12 days. If you want to ship with insurance, it will cost you $8.99 and will also arrive in 2 to 12 days.
Lacking reviews
The Fabric Hut has earned an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. They only have 1 complaint on this website about products being out of stock, but the review is from May 2020, when fabric was in very high demand. This is the only review we were able to find. There is another store with a very similar name located in Virginia, but nothing for this business.
Better options out there
Due to the lack of reviews and the small inventory, we recommend looking at some of the other fabric stores in our evaluation. The free shipping and 60-day guarantee are excellent options and if you wish to take the risk, these are strong pluses. However, not being able to find anyone's opinions on The Fabric Hut - either positive or negative - is yet another reason you may want to look at their rivals before choosing this as your online fabric store.
Decorators Best was founded by Barbara Karpf in 2004. She created the very first e-commerce company to have a "To the Trade Only" option of exclusive products. She believes that everyone deserves to have a beautiful home and that phenomenal customer service is key. When the website was first launched, it was the only e-commerce site that permitted everyday people to purchase trade-only fabrics and wallpaper. The company has grown since 2004, and now carries over 200,000 luxury fabrics and wallpapers.
Something for everyone
When looking for fabric for your next project, Decorators Best has something for everyone. Designer fabrics from manufacturers including Kravet, Brunschwig & Fils, Scalamandre and Schumacher are available. They also offer discount designer fabrics if that fits better into your budget. The fabric store offers a wide variety of patterns, brands, fabric, color and content. You are able to narrow down how you shop by color, content, quick ship, bestselling, new, European brands, discount, color of the year and matching fabric and wallpaper.
Fabric quiz
The website offers a fabric designer quiz you can take to guide you to the perfect products. If you take the quiz, they will reward you with a $20 coupon. Some of the questions asked are what are you focused on today? The options are wallpaper upholstery fabric and drapery fabric. We selected drapery, and the next question was if we had a color in mind or if we were a blank slate. We chose the latter, which led to the choice between trends and room ideas. We selected trends which lead us to 14 pictures to choose between. After selecting a style, they ask what room you are decorating and how much you are looking to spend on a yard of fabric. We received 8 options within the price we selected plus more that were in the other price ranges.
Minimum purchase varies by fabric
When looking to purchase fabric from the Designer Fabrics category, there is a wide price range. Looking at the solid colors, the least expensive will cost $19.99 per yard and requires a minimum purchase of 3 yards. The minimum required for purchase is different on each color of fabric, so you will need to look at that before ordering. When looking at a specific fabric, the website shows you a product description, price, how much is in stock and minimum purchase requirements.
Sample fabrics
Decorators Best offers a $5 sample so you can see the fabric before ordering it. This sample is on loan and needs to be returned to the correct manufacturer. You won't get a refund, though, because the $5 is a processing fee.
Free Shipping
Decorators Best does not carry any stock. Everything will be shipped from the manufacturer instead. They do offer free shipping on all domestic orders of $100 or more. However, this offer does not extend to trade members. Your fabric will typically arrive within 5-7 business days. If the fabric is coming from outside of the United States, you can expect a 2-week delivery. Samples will arrive within 7-14 business days.
Return policy is complicated
If you need to return your fabric, you need to send an email to Decorators Best in order to get the process started. According to their website, if your fabric package arrives damaged, include a picture of the damage with your email. If your package doesn't arrive and is lost, you have 30 days to notify Decorators Best. When it comes to return policies, each manufacturer has their own policy. Therefore, they request that all returns be initiated within 30 days. There will be a $25 shipping fee if you require a shipping label and customers are also responsible for return shipping. Some manufacturers will charge a restocking fee and it will be deducted from your return. Any fabric you purchase on sale or as limited stock are final sales. These may not be returned unless they arrive damaged. On Decorators Best's website, you are able to see each manufacturer's individual return policies.
Unhappy shoppers
Decorators Best has not been rated by the Better Business Bureau. Looking at feedback beyond the BBB, we found that this fabric store's customers have experienced some disappointments when shopping here. One customer states that they ordered 25 yards of designer brand fabric. While it arrived on time, it was wrapped around a bolt, twisted, wrinkled, and the end was ripped and dirty. The company said they could offer a return or replacement. Another customer says that it is overpriced and that they found the same product in other places for half the price. There are also multiple complaints about their customer service and how employees speak to customers on the phone. However, there are happy customers as well who received their orders in a timely manner and appreciate the quality of the fabric.
Consider looking elsewhere
When it comes to buying fabric, you are most likely looking for ease and convenience. While Decorators Best offers a massive selection, they are lacking in their returns and customer service. Customers repeatedly warn shoppers to stay away, and be aware that should any issue arise, it will be difficult to get it resolved in a timely and affordable manner. Consider saving yourself the hassle by shopping at a different online fabric store instead.

If you do not qualify for the free shipping, then the delivery cost will range from $6.95-$23.95. Anything not in the continental United States will be charged an additional $7.50 per order. At the time of this review, Fashion Fabrics Club wasn't offering expedited shipping, but it has been offered in the past and could be offered again in the future. Fashion Fabrics Club also ships internationally for additional fees. Shipping within the continental United States should take approximately 2-5 business days to process and 7-14 business days to arrive.
30-day money back guarantee
There is a 30-day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with your fabric purchase. You will need to send the fabric back in the original state of unwashed and uncut within 30 days. If the fabric you purchased is from the Runway Silk Collection or are from the Bolt, your order is subject to a 25% restocking fee. Shipping fees are not refundable, and you are responsible for the return shipping.
Negative customer reviews
When looking at what customers have to say about Fashion Fabrics Club, it is almost all negative. Multiple customers state that the items took significantly longer to arrive with no communication. There are numerous complaints on the customer service here. Also, customers state the fabric style they order and what arrives are not the same. Typically, cheaper fabric shows up when purchasing material such as silk.
You get what you pay for
When fabric prices look too good to be true, chances are they are. That appears to be the case with Fashion Fabrics Club. Looking at what their customers say, you are most likely not going to receive what was described. While they offer a 30-day return policy, you will still have to pay the return shipping and possibly a 25% restocking fee. These charges can add up when you need to still go repurchase your fabric somewhere else. We strongly suggest you look elsewhere when purchasing fabric.
Online fabric stores may have different categories for fabrics, such as by material type, pattern, color, texture, and end-use. You can browse through the fabrics available and add the ones you like to your shopping cart. Most online fabric stores also provide detailed descriptions and high-quality images of the fabrics to help you make an informed decision.
The type of fabric you choose will depend on the specific project you are working on. Natural fibers like cotton and linen are good for lightweight clothing items, while synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon are good for outdoor gear and sportswear. Similarly, the weight of the fabric refers to its thickness and drape. Lightweight fabrics are good for summer clothing, while heavier fabrics are good for winter clothing.
Online retailers offer a wide variety of prints and patterns, so you can easily find the perfect fabric for your project. Some retailers even offer custom printing, so you can have a unique fabric made just for you. When shopping for fabric online, it can be difficult to determine the quality of the fabric. Look for reviews from other customers to get an idea of how the fabric measures up (pun intended) in real life.
