Where Can You Find the Best Feather Beds?

Feather beds are a creation from heaven and are becoming very popular again with the wonderful night's sleep they provide. People report feeling better rested and have a more comfortable night's sleep when they sleep on a quality feather bed.

Feather beds help regulate your temperature while you sleep, by keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. They also cushion your body and, when compared with a traditional mattress, they reduce the number of aches and pains you may feel when you awake each morning.

Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

Whether you're looking for high-end, 800-fill European goose down or economical, entry-level microfeather, Overstock probably has the featherbed that will meet your needs. They have the largest selection of all of the feather bed retailers in our review, with more than 100 different styles to choose from.

Use the filter options on the left-hand side of the page to sort through the options. You can narrow down the possibilities according to size, fill type, price, brand, materials, and more. Our favorite sort option is "Average Customer Reviews": unlike most websites offering feather beds, Overstock lets you see exactly what other customers have thought of the product, and some feather beds have over 1,000 reviews. Why not benefit from other people's experiences before making your purchase?

Overstock also offers great prices on their feather beds.. Besides having everyday low prices, shoppers can often find additional savings; for example, at the time of our review, customers could get a 12% discount for signing up for Overstock's email newsletter. And, since most of their feather beds sell for at least $45, shoppers will get free shipping on their order within the lower 48 United States.

If you need to return your feather bed, Overstock has a decent return policy: unopened, unused feather beds may be sent back within 30 days of delivery for a 100% refund. According to their return policy, you can also return an opened feather bed package, but you will only get a partial refund of your purchase price.

If you think you may be shopping at Overstock for more than just a feather bed, you'll want to consider their Club O Gold membership (formerly known just as "Club O"). For a yearly membership fee of $19.95, customers can get free shipping on all orders, 5% in rewards dollars on every purchase, and other perks like dining rewards and early access to sale events. Also, if you are active military or a veteran, a first responder, a teacher or student, or a Club O Rewards MasterCard holder, your Club O Gold membership is free.

Competitive pricing, free shipping, and a customer-friendly website make Overstock a great choice for your next feather bed. We're confident you'll find what you're looking for at an affordable price.

DeWoolfson Review 4 Star Rating

DeWoolfson

4 Star Rating
  • Cost: Starting from $375

In business since 1983, DeWoolfson has an excellent reputation for high-quality down products, including pillows, comforters, and feather beds. If you've looked at other feather bed retailers, you'll notice in DeWoolfson's photos that their feather beds are much thicker. Their beds tend to be fuller than other brands, by as much as 25% more fill.

When shopping for a feather bed on the DeWoolfson Down website, your main question is this: what percentage of down and feathers are you looking for? You won't find a bunch of photos showing you the different options. Instead, you'll see a chart broken down by the percentage of each kind of fill, starting with the least expensive blend (10% white goose down and 90% white goose feathers), then the mid-range option (20% WGD and 80% WGF), and finally the luxury choice (50% WGD, 50% WGF). Each blend is available in five sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, King, and California King.

Shipping costs on DeWoolfson feather beds may be higher than some of the competition: a standard flat fee of $34. But, they make up for the higher cost with faster manufacturing and shipping; all feather beds are custom-filled and shipped out within 48 hours of purchase, making sure you get a good night's sleep as quickly as possible.

Best Feather Bed Stores

DeWoolfson feather beds come with an excellent warranty: five years from the purchase date. You will need to use a feather bed protector in order to meet the warranty requirements, and naturally the warranty does not cover damage due to abuse, improper care, or stains from perspiration or oils. And, with respect to returns, you can get a full refund - minus any shipping charges - on any unused feather beds still in their original condition and packaging within 30 days of delivery.

Although we were not able to find a Better Business Bureau listing for DeWoolfson, customer reviews across the web were uniformly positive. Shoppers praised the high quality of all of their down products, including feather beds, the friendly and responsive service received from DeWoolfson representatives, and the quick delivery on products ordered.

Their higher prices may put them out of reach for customers on a budget, but DeWoolfson is a fantastic choice for shoppers who want a well-constructed feather bed from a company that has a reputation for quality and great customer service.

Cuddledown Review 2 Star Rating

Cuddledown

2 Star Rating
  • Cost: Starting from $139

Originally started as a comforter business in 1973, Maine-based Cuddledown carries a full selection of sleep-related products, from pajamas and sheets to feather beds and more. According to their website, their line of feather beds, comforters, and pillows are all manufactured in the USA and use only "Certified Safe Fabric" with no harmful chemicals.

Their feather bed selection includes a total of 10 products, with options for synthetic or down fill, baffle box construction, and up to 700 fill on the more luxurious end. The website makes it easy what customers have thought of each feather bed, with starred reviews right on the main product listing page. However, don't expect hundreds of customers' input to help guide your decision; the most-rated feather bed only had a total of 20 reviews, and others had 1-3 reviews.

Prices at Cuddledown are average: not the highest prices we found, but not the least expensive either. Shipping costs are higher than some of the other retailers we looked at: expect to pay a minimum of $17.99 for the lowest-priced feather bed, and if your order is over $350 you'll pay a charge of 7% of the order total.

Best Feather Bed Stores

Unfortunately, Cuddledown's track record for customer satisfaction leaves room for improvement. On the one hand, we were pleased to see that they maintained an "A+" rating as an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau - largely because they've shown that they do respond to complaints. But, those complaints tend to center around Cuddledown's failure to live up to their advertised 100% satisfaction policy. Dozens of customers described the business' failure to respond to requests for refunds, even claiming that the returns weren't received despite the tracking numbers provided by the customers.

Another common complaint is that customers find themselves enrolled in a monthly "VIP Club" with a recurring charge of $14.95 that they never signed up for. Cuddledown's standard response is that the customers were aware of the discount program. If you decide to purchase your feather bed from Cuddledown, pay very close attention to the fine print during and after the checkout process if you're not interested in the monthly program.

While we like the "made in USA" and "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" premise that Cuddledown offers, the high number of customers all with the same basic complaint - that Cuddledown doesn't actually deliver on that commitment - left us feeling like shoppers would do better to check out a more trusted, reputable retailer when shopping for a feather bed.

Finding a great feather bed is more of a challenge than you might think. With only a few options at local department or specialty stores, it's hard to really compare and contrast different options. Shopping online for a feather bed is convenient and lets you browse a long list of choices.

However, not all feather bed stores are the same. Before making your next feather bed purchase, you should consider the following:

  • Selection. Does the store offer a large selection of feather beds? Do they provide several different brands of feather beds?
  • Prices. How does the cost of feather beds compare between stores? Do they have budget-friendly options?
  • Return policy. In the event you don't like the feel of your new feather bed, what is the return policy? Can you get your money back?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Feather Bed stores available today. We hope these reviews help you find the perfect feather bed for a good night's sleep!

Feather Bed Store FAQ

Feather beds are a fluffy addition to your existing set-up. They're designed to go directly on top of your mattress, whether it's a basic foam style or even a pillow-top. As you'd imagine, they're made with feathers, usually goose down, and can give you extra softness and comfort when you settle in for a night's rest.
It definitely helps! Feather beds are similar to down comforters and are a great way to keep heat in during the colder months. The flipside of that is that a feather bed might not be a terrific option if you prefer to "sleep cool" , or if you live in a hot, humid climate.
Your first thought should be the size of your mattress: naturally, if you have a king-sized bed, you'll need a king-sized feather bed! Another consideration is whether the feather bed is baffle channel or baffle box: the first type of construction allows you to shift the feathers and down around (e.g. if you want extra padding or support by your head, feet, etc.), while the second keeps the feathers more in place. Baffle box is preferred by most people, because it requires you to fluff the feather bed less often.
You can use any kind of sheets you prefer. But, keep in mind that a feather bed adds around 6" to the height of your mattress. If the fitted sheets you're currently using have a hard time staying put, you may need to buy deeper ones to cover both your mattress and your feather bed.
To care for your feather bed, flip and fluff it regularly - as often as you change the sheets, preferably. It will last longer if you keep it covered with a fitted sheet or feather bed protector (which can be laundered). Should your feather bed get damp or wet, make sure it dries out completely or it might mildew or rot. Finally, your feather bed should not be washed at home! If spot cleaning isn't enough, you'll need to take it to a dry cleaner for professional care.
Not necessarily. You can find a budget-friendly feather bed for under $50. But, if you're looking for a well-constructed feather bed that will keep you comfortable for many years, expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $600, depending on the size of your bed and the retailer you choose.
Sometimes. The higher-end manufacturers may include a fantastic warranty of a year or longer, but be sure you follow all of the eligibility requirements (for example, using a feather bed protector, fluffing it frequently, and so on).
Most retailers of feather beds allow returns for unused products only. You may want to read customer reviews on any feather bed you're considering, to get a feel for how they hold up under actual use, before committing to a purchase. Also, some hotels use feather beds on their mattresses: if you get a great night's sleep while on vacation, ask what brand they used! You can probably buy the exact same one for your own bed from an online retailer.
