2022 Feather Pillow Store Reviews

Pacific Coast Review 3 Star Rating

Pacific Coast

3 Star Rating
  • Cost: From $14.99 to $269.99
  • Approximately 30 to choose from

Pacific Coast has been in the premium feather and down bedding industry for over 125 years. Their feather pillows are so popular that you'll probably even spot them in the inventory of some of the other retailers in our review! You might also have slept on a Pacific Coast pillow during your last hotel stay.

Limited allergy-free warranty

Pacific Coast's highest-end feather pillow is the Luxury Down model. Prices range from $169.99 to $269.99 depending on the size you select. Covered in 680 thread count cotton, you may not even want to use a pillowcase (though it's still recommended to protect your pillow). It's got 700 fill power Hyperclean white goose down, a limited allergy-free warranty, and is made in America. Can you believe it's even machine washable? Customer reviews for this feather pillow were positive overall, but we were surprised that Pacific Coast's most expensive model only earned an average of 4.3 stars.

Low priced options

How about the opposite end of the scale? There you'll find the Euro Pillow (used with decorative shams) for $14.99 on flash sale ($29.99 regular price), two down alternative pillows from $17.49 to $39.99, and their lowest-priced bed pillow (Feather Best) for $39.99 to $49.99. That last option contains extra-fluffy feathers and is covered in soft brushed cotton - but once again, over more than 10 customer reviews, the feather pillow got a 4-star average.

Get it all at once

Pacific Coast also shows you options for pillow-and-comforter sets in the results for feather pillows. That could be a nice way of taking care of all of your bedding needs at the same time.

Discounts available

You probably have a good chance of getting a discount if you time your shopping just right. During our most recent visit to the Pacific Coast site, there was a seasonal promotion offering discounts from 15% to 30%, depending on the final price of our order. We also got a pop-up discount of 10% if we provided our email address, though we didn't love the "expiring in 30 minutes" aspect of the offer. Finally, Pacific Coast regularly offers free shipping on orders over $99, which isn't the most generous we've seen but it could save you a little if you're ordering a higher-end pillow or several less expensive ones.

Chapter 11

When we looked up the Better Business Bureau listing for Pacific Coast, we were glad to see that they had a decent grade of "A-". However, an alert dated from May 2019 said that the company had filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the federal Bankruptcy Act. Pacific Coast is still in operation, but a possible bankruptcy could mean that their 30-day satisfaction guarantee or three-year warranty on all feather pillows doesn't mean much.

You have options

Pacific Coast has been a recognized name in the feather pillow marketplace for a long time, and they offer a fair selection for purchase. But, we were disappointed with customer ratings lower than we would have expected for such a well-known brand. Plus, with bankruptcy possibly looming, it might make more sense to buy your feather pillows from another retailer - maybe even buying the Pacific Coast brand from a store that sells multiple manufacturers' products, so that you've got that company's return policy and satisfaction guarantee in place instead.

Where Can You Buy the Best Feather Pillows?

If you've ever gotten the best night's sleep of your life when spending a night at a luxury hotel, you might be wondering where you can buy their feather pillows for your own home. You're in luck: there are a number of online retailers who can make your sweet dreams a reality by offering the very same pillows for purchase. But why are feather pillows so popular?

Many people prefer natural materials over synthetics, and some customers say that having feather- or down-filled pillows makes for a cooler, more comfortable rest. Plus, compared with foam-filled designs, feather pillows are more easily shaped to your head, neck, or any other body part that needs gentle support.

Feather Pillow Store FAQ

As the name suggests, a feather pillow is filled with at least 51% feathers, usually sourced from geese. They have a very different feel compared to regular pillows, often offering a much more comfortable night's rest. That's why you'll find feather pillows in high-end hotels and resorts.
Feather pillows are classified by their blend of feathers and down. You can get pillows that are 100% feathers, a blend of 75/25, and so on. You can also find differences in the shell material, ranging from Egyptian cotton to 100% organic (but either way, you'll probably have your pillow in a pillowcase).
Of course! Just like regular pillows, feather pillows come in a wide range of support levels. You'll have no trouble finding one that offers just the right amount no matter how you tend to sleep. Some retailers of feather pillows offer density adjustments if you get yours delivered and have a Goldilocks-type experience of "too much support" or "not supportive enough" - they'll tweak it until you say it's just right.
The best approach is to never need to wash it, by using pillow protectors in addition to pillowcases. Why? Washing a feather pillow can make the feathers and down more brittle, due to the feathers' natural oils being stripped away. And, if you don't dry your pillow properly after washing it (in cold water, never hot), it could wind up smelling terrible. Consider putting on a proper-fitting pillow protector and pillowcase before you use your feather pillows for the first time.
Good news: with proper care, your pillows should last anywhere from 5-10 years (or longer!). The more you keep them protected from moisture and body oils, the more life you can expect to get from them. That's a lot longer than the 1-2 years that most synthetic pillows last.
If you've taken the steps to keep your feather pillows clean, you should only need to replace them when they no longer offer the support you need. If you're constantly fluffing them, or if you fold them in half and they don't expand back to full size, it might be time to get new ones.
They can be: you'll find super high-end pillows priced at over $400. On the other hand, it's possible to find basic feather pillows for under $20. Keep in mind that they can last many years longer than synthetic pillows, giving you a better return on your bedding "investment" .
That depends on where you buy them from. Some retailers have extremely generous return policies, letting you use the feather pillows for up to 8 months before deciding if you want to get a refund. But, most stores expect the pillows to be in unused condition to be eligible for a return, so be sure to use a pillow protector right away in order to keep them in like-new shape.

That feature makes feather pillows equally popular with interior decorators: a good down-filled pillow can be plumped, fluffed and shaped to look absolutely perfect in a model home or social media photo. In fact, there are online stores dedicated solely to feather throw pillows for home decor!

Whether you're freshening the look of your living room or replacing your flattened bed pillows, shopping online puts the best selection of feather pillows at your fingertips. But, not all stores are created equal. Here are a few helpful criteria to keep in mind as you decide where to buy your pillows:

  • Selection. The best stores carry a wide range of inventory, from budget-friendly basic styles to hotel-level luxury pillows.
  • Pricing. How do the prices compare to other retailers'? Are there any perks like free shipping or promo discounts that can make your purchase even more affordable?
  • Ease of Navigation. If a store has a great selection of pillows but their website makes it hard to find what you need, you might wind up feeling frustrated. Choose a retailer with a well-designed online store to minimize hassles.
  • Reputation. What do other customers say about their experience with the store and their satisfaction with the feather pillows they purchased?
