Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

Nike began in 1964 under the name Blue Ribbon Sports and was founded by Bill Bowerman, a track and field coach at the University of Oregon, and a previous student of his, Phil Knight. Eight years later, the first Nike brand shoe hit the market. By the early 2000s the company had grown to having retail locations in over 170 countries and the "swoosh" was recognized worldwide. Athletes such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods have endorsed Nike, aiding in its success.

Great membership program

When you first visit Nike's site you will find a pop up asking for your email, birthdate, and if you prefer shopping for men or women. Signing up for their emails will get you not only "inspiring content" but also news and exclusive offers. That might be worth it to save some cash on your purchase. Another option to consider is that Nike has a membership program. If you decide to sign up - which is free - you'll get perks like exclusive shopping, first access to products, and member rewards and offers. Not only that but you get free shipping on standard orders and other cool benefits like being able to customize your shoes. Check it out for all the benefits.

Navigating the website is easy

If you have the time, it might be fun to look around a little before you shop. There are a lot of really neat articles and rabbit holes that you could go down. When you're ready to shop though, we recommend using the bar at the top. You can hover over the area you are interested in and get a long list of ways to further narrow your search. Once you get there, you can refine your search even farther using the options on the left side. Included in the options are fun features like if you are looking for something breathable, with pockets, water resistant, or made with sustainable material.

Huge selection for 0-120 year olds

Nike has a plethora of fitness clothing in men's, women's, and kids. You can get shoes geared toward almost any sport, pants, shorts, jackets, sweats, swimwear, yoga, and even matching sets. Specific for the women are bras, dresses, skirts, and maternity. They have a very wide selection of sizes ranging from XXS to plus sizes for women and a big and tall section for the men. Kids' sizes range from baby and toddler all the way through big kids. There are bags and backpacks, hats, visors, and headbands, and even Apple watches and bands.

Compare across retailers: black leggings

We used a standard pair of black workout leggings to compare apples to apples across all retailers. Nike has a pair called the Nike Epic Luxe, which run $95. You have the option of four interest-free payments if that is something you're looking for. They are made of Nike's high-quality material and are lightweight and breathable. They come with a side pocket and a back zipper to carry essentials along with you. The site had a lot of information about the leggings available. There were care instructions, plenty of pictures of a model, and even the model's height and the size she is wearing. There is a size chart to help you get an accurate fit, and over five dozen reviews from customers to give you a good idea of what people think. There are even pictures toward the bottom to help you "complete the look" with a variety of tops, headwear, shoes, and so on.

Decent shipping options

There are a number of shipping options from no-rush for $7 all the way up to express for $30. You can pick something up in-store for free anytime. Of course, since it's free to become a member we recommend doing that. It gets you free no-rush or standard shipping and discounted rates on expedited and express.

Try it out and return if you don't like it

Nike has an absolutely amazing return policy. You have a full 60 days to return almost any item. The exclusions are things like clearance, Apple watches, and items with a specific guarantee and/or warranty. Make sure you check the item label for any information specific to your fitness clothing to make sure you don't void a warranty. Other than that though, you can wear, wash, and repeat on your new items to make sure you are happy with them. This even includes the Nike-by-You shoes that you custom design. Past the 60 days, you can still return an item, but only if it is new and unwashed. Returns are also always free for members.

Works to resolve complaints

We are never excited to hear that a company has a "D" rating from the Better Business Bureau. However, as we investigated it appeared that Nike is now responding to the complaints and working to resolve them. Considering that there were only 425 complaints in the last year for such a huge company, we don't feel this, in and of itself, is any cause for concern.

Best choice for fitness clothing

Nike is a good brand with a great reputation that has been around for a long time. The fact that you can try out your products for two full months and return them if they aren't working for you is huge. No matter who you're shopping for, Nike should be the first online store you visit when shopping for fitness clothing. We give this retailer our highest ranking.

Where Can You Buy the Best Fitness Clothing?

No matter what your fitness jam is, there is likely clothing designed to help you perform at your optimum level. Activewear has come a long way from its beginnings. Do you love to run? Look for an outfit that keeps you cool and dry and doesn't slow you down. Is yoga more your cup of tea?

You'll want to find comfortable and extremely stretchy attire that stays in place but is thick enough no one will see things they shouldn't be seeing when you bend over. Aerobics your preference? Make sure you've got a combination of stretch and great sweat-wicking abilities. Above all else, you want to feel confident that you look good while you work out - otherwise you're not likely to actually make the move to get, or stay, healthy.

Fitness Clothing Store FAQ

You won't find a better selection anywhere else! Buying your fitness clothing online gives you access to the widest range of styles, colors and sizes - without having to spend so much time going through rack after rack hoping to find what you're looking for.
Most online retailers of fitness clothing have helpful sizing guides and charts on each product page. Some even have tools that let you enter a brand and size that you already know are a good fit, and then it gives you a recommended size for the shoes, tops or bottoms you're considering.
That's probably the best reason to shop online: you're much more likely to find items in every imaginable size, shape and color. Whether you wear an extra-wide shoe, need petite sizes for leggings, or want that perfect yoga top in a 3X, you'll probably have no trouble getting it online - and with many more options than you'd find at a local store.
Most of the time, yes. Most fitness clothing stores allow you to return your purchase within 30 days for a refund or store credit. Usually, the clothes have to be in new, unworn condition with the tags still attached - but some stores even allow returns if you've worn it!
That's usually a matter of personal preference. Bigger brands tend to have more to choose from, stronger return policies, and often the ability to make in-store returns and exchanges for clothes bought online. However, you also run the risk of having the exact same workout gear as half of the people in your gym or fitness class! Buying from boutique-type stores lets you have a more unique look.
Many retailers will give you free shipping on your purchase, though you may need to meet a certain minimum order amount to qualify. Beyond that, you might find a complimentary rewards program that gives you points on every order and free shipping just for being a member, personalized clothing recommendations, or even a curated subscription box designed specifically for you.
You can almost always find accessories like water bottles, yoga mats and even nutritional supplements. That's another great reason for shopping online: get everything you need for your workouts in one place!
None beyond what you already know: you can't get your items the day you buy them, so if you're in a hurry because you've got a big race coming up tomorrow, you'll be out of luck. And, while most stores have generous return/exchange policies, it still takes time to send items back and wait for new ones to arrive. Other than that, there's really no reason not to shop online for your fitness wear!

Continued from above...

Fitness clothing is about as diverse you can get these days. There are so many choices that it can be extremely overwhelming. There are the tried and true brands that have been around for decades and that seem to get better and better. However, don't underestimate newer boutique brands either.

A lot of these companies were started because the founders saw a need that wasn't being filled - so they designed clothing to fill it. If you're worried about seeing your outfit twin show up at the gym, you're less likely to have that happen if you buy from a smaller company that changes their inventory up frequently.

Online shopping has really been on the rise. The convenience of shopping from home is a huge benefit. Not only that, but a lot of companies offer even more on their online store than they do in their brick-and-mortar locations. Love a particular shirt in the store but not the colors you see? Check online and they just might have the hue you're looking for.

So how do you choose the online fitness clothing retailer that will give you what you're looking for? Here are a few things to keep in mind as you shop:

  • Selection. Does this store have a good variety of fitness clothing to choose from? What about not only selection of different items, but of sizes? Colors? We don't know about you, but a color that looks amazing on you may make your best friend feel rather frumpy.
  • Return policy. How good is the retailer about returns? Most places - but not all - are consistent with their clothing return needing to be new and with all tags/labels attached, but do you only have two weeks to return something? 30 days? More?
  • Reputation. What do current customers say about their experience? Have they been happy with their purchase? Do the clothes fit as expected or have they had to take the time to exchange? How do the products hold up over time? How has the customer service experience been?
