Urban Stems takes a modern approach to flowers, sourcing most blooms from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and offering coast-to-coast next-day delivery plus same-day delivery in NYC, DC, and LA. The company operates as a full-service florist, with both traditional one-off bouquets as well as a subscription option for regular deliveries.
3 club tiers but not much info
There are three flower clubs to choose from at Urban Stems: Classic ($55), Seasonal ($75), and Luxe ($105). All of the subscriptions come with a glass vase on the first delivery, and the two higher tiers also include Urban Stems' branded shears. Beyond that, the company doesn't go into much detail about the differences among the three arrangements. We wish they'd at least tell us how many stems to expect, what varieties of flowers might be included, and the rest of the details that most rival flower clubs offer upfront.
Pay all at once or as each delivery is scheduled
Speaking of upfront, we do like that Urban Stems lets you pay as you go or pay all at once when you choose your plan. It says that you'll save on every delivery when you prepay, but when we ran the numbers we didn't see any discount compared with the per-delivery pricing.
Decent flexibility for club length and delivery frequency
You have several ways to set up your flower club here. First, you'll decide if you want bouquets to arrive weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Next, you indicate if you want your subscription to be ongoing, or if you'd rather have it for a preset number of months (between 3-12). Finally, after you choose the first delivery date, you have the option to set this as a gift and include a gift message. We appreciate that there's a link to get a suggested message if people need a bit of help finding the right words.
Hard to find happy customers here
Unfortunately, despite having a beautiful-to-browse website and some attractively flexible options for flower clubs, Urban Stems falls absolutely flat when it comes to reputation. Starting with an "F” rating from the Better Business Bureau and continuing on with 90% of Trustpilot reviews giving this florist the lowest possible 1-star score, it's hard to find anyone who actually likes the customer experience with Urban Stems.
Disappointing customer comments
One person put it best when she described this club as "wilted and dying bouquets delivered monthly”. Time and again, customers say that these arrangements will more often than not arrive dead, brown, late - or not at all. Yes, when asked to send a replacement, Urban Stems does - but even those deliveries have issues. Mother's Day in particular is the Achilles' heel for this retailer, canceling deliveries without notice and failing to offer a refund. Absolutely unacceptable.
Choose a different flower club instead of this one
Urban Stems just doesn't deliver - figuratively or literally. You're almost guaranteed to be let down by your flower club purchase here, but lucky for you there are several trustworthy options on our list that get it right most (if not all) of the time. Give one of those higher-rated florists your business and stay away from Urban Stems.
