FloraQueen got its start in Barcelona in 2004. This online flower delivery company now ships floral arrangements to over 100 countries worldwide (including the US, of course). You can also use this online store to order other gifts, like chocolate baskets and gourmet hampers (we'd probably call those "baskets" too), depending on your recipient's location.
About 4 dozen arrangements to choose from
You won't have to spend a lot of time looking for what you want on the FloraQueen site: there were only about 50 bouquets at the time of our most recent evaluation, and all of them could be filtered by occasion, flower type, and color. Be aware that, as a florist serving the international community, you might not find some US holidays in the occasions list (we didn't see Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, and so on).
Pay attention to what's included
With over 800 reviews, FloraQueen's most popular bouquet is Subtle Freshness: Roses and Lilies, affordably priced at $44.90. Like most arrangements here and elsewhere, it comes in various sizes with corresponding prices. The vase in the picture is not automatically included; you'll see it as an add-on in the item total, or you can swap it out for a different vase style (or none at all).
Prices may be larger than they appear
Imagine our shock when we entered our delivery zip code and found that the listed price had more than doubled. That Subtle Freshness bouquet wound up costing $127, once we factored in the new price of the arrangement and the vase, plus delivery fees. Yes, we were thrilled to see that the service/delivery costs here were just $7.10 - that's at least 50% less than every competitor florist in our evaluation - but we felt bait-and-switched by the prices we originally saw on the site.
Shopper sentiment for this flower delivery company is a mixed bag. You'll see some arrangements with hundreds of reviews, and others with none - and that makes it a risky proposition to choose a bouquet that no one has commented on. As a Spain-based company, FloraQueen has no Better Business Bureau rating to consider either. On the FloraQueen site, most reviews are positive - shocking, we know - but in other places we saw a lot of unhappy campers: over 21,000 bottom-of-the-barrel one-star reviews, to be exact.
Customer service isn't reliable or consistent
If there's a problem with your order (as there often can be, when dealing with florist networks instead of a local shop), all you've got is an online form to send in your inquiry. So imagine this: you've ordered a time-sensitive delivery, like an anniversary bouquet or a sympathy arrangement for a funeral, and when it doesn't arrive at the expected time, your only recourse is to complain via the website? Thousands of customers would wish you lots of luck with that, because they didn't hear back.
Best left for international orders only
We've downgraded FloraQueen by a half-star since our last rating. We're disappointed that despite going from 11,000 to over 73,000 reviews in one place alone, their overall track record is exactly the same: just under half of its customers give it a perfect five-star rating, while a full 30% say it's the worst flower delivery company ever. That doesn't exactly communicate a strong commitment to improvement. If you're looking to send flowers to an international destination, you might try FloraQueen for convenience. However, if you're placing an order for delivery within the US or Canada, you'll probably be happier if you go with one of the higher-rated florists in our review.
Fresh flowers are a part of some of life's most significant moments. An engagement ring nestled in a dozen red roses. A red-white-and-blue tribute arrangement at a veteran's celebration of life. That "just because" bouquet when someone needs to know they're loved. From Valentine's Day to Mother's Day and a thousand other occasions, flowers are the perfect way to show your love, gratitude, or appreciation.
But, if you live in Memphis and you're trying to delight, surprise, or honor someone who lives in Miami, you can't just run to your local florist and pick something out. That's where flower delivery companies come in. Most florists (including your preferred mom-and-pop flower shop) participate in one or more networks, like FTD and Teleflora. These connections let you place your order and have it brought to life by a florist in your recipient's area, easy-peasy.
Because so many florists use these networks, you'll often find the same arrangements featured on their online stores. That's where attention to customer service really makes the difference: any network florist will be at the mercy of how the store on the receiving end actually pulls the arrangement together, and sometimes the quality on that side isn't what the original florist promised. When that happens, the best flower delivery companies will take responsibility for your satisfaction - either through a refund or a redelivery, often with a different local florist if available. That's more or less "business as usual" when you're buying flowers from a traditional online florist.
However, that's not the only option for flower delivery. You can also choose to send flowers from a service that works directly with growers: the bouquets are fresh-cut and carefully packaged, kept chilled in transit, and delivered right to your recipient's doorstep. These direct-to-customer flower companies are a great solution if there aren't any florists local to the person you're sending them to - because FedEx and UPS can get just about anywhere in the US. Another plus with this type of flower delivery is the price: you'll often get twice as many blooms for what you'd get for the same money spent at a more traditional flower shop.
So, where should you buy your flowers? Your options are almost as vast as the variety of blooms themselves. It might feel a little less overwhelming if you use these criteria to guide your choice:
