Teleflora has been in business since 1934, making it one of the longest-standing flower delivery services in the industry. Over the decades, it's built a reputation for working closely with local florists to offer fresh, hand-delivered arrangements.
Don't sleep on the Deal of the Day
You'll have no trouble finding beautiful bouquets and arrangements on the Teleflora website. On the homepage itself, you'll typically see seasonal options, birthday bouquets, and arrangements for everyday occasions. Our favorite place to click, though, is the Deal of the Day: you indicate what occasion you're recognizing and how much you want to spend (from $40 to $150), add anything extra you'd like (chocolates, balloons, stuffed animal), plus your recipient's zip code and delivery date. A local florist in your recipient's area will design a one-of-a-kind bouquet with fresh, seasonal blooms. Adding to the savings, we got a pop-up discount of 10% on all bouquets after we had browsed the Teleflora site for about 30 minutes, so watch for that too.
Site can be a bit finicky
Let's also see how Teleflora did with our comparison flower deliveries: a bouquet of a dozen red roses and a basic sympathy arrangement. It's thoughtful how Teleflora separates out sympathy arrangements by "For the Service” and "For the Home”, where most of its rivals lump them all together into one category. The latter grouping was what we had been looking for on other sites, and Teleflora asks you to choose among bouquets, plants, floral baskets, and even "pet sympathy gifts”. Unfortunately, the test zip code we'd been using for all of the flower delivery companies came up as "unavailable in this zip code” when we tried to choose a sympathy bouquet. (For what it's worth, the first location we tried is in a small suburban area about 45 minutes from Milwaukee and 90 minutes from Chicago, so not exactly a hard-to-reach place.) We had to switch to a completely different location just to get options, so that's a downside for Teleflora. And then, when we backed up a few pages, the Teleflora website was showing us options, even for same-day delivery, in our original zip code. It was frustrating to say the least, and keep it in mind in case you experience similar technical glitches.
Prices are on par with rival florists'
Back to our comparison, and assuming they're available in your area, the sympathy bouquets at Teleflora start around $44.99. Some of the styles were a little too bright-and-cheery for what we were thinking of when we imagined "condolence flowers”, like the Sunny Smiles bouquet with a yellow vase. Isle of White at $54.99 was a little more in line with the typical "sympathy flower delivery”. And the roses? It took some clicking to find those too: searching for "dozen roses” or by selecting "roses” as the filter took us to lots of bouquets with mixed-color blooms. We finally found a bouquet with a dozen long-stemmed red roses, plus green salal and pitta negra greenery for $69.99.
A few unique things in the checkout process
As we worked our way through the checkout at Teleflora, here are a few things we noticed. First, it's the only flower delivery company we saw that asked if we wanted to add a tip. (It's optional, though.) Those same extras we mentioned earlier are offered, and you can select the size of the balloons or stuffed animal and the quantity of chocolates. You've also got the opportunity to enter any special instructions ("don't ring the doorbell because you'll wake the baby”), to pay $15 for delivery prior to 1PM, and to have Teleflora send you an email reminder for the same date next year. Interestingly, Teleflora requires you to select a note type - everything from Kwanzaa to "I'm sorry” - along with a message and who it's from. A suggested message will populate when you select the occasion, but you can change it to whatever you like.
Under $22 for same-day delivery
Moving on to the Billing & Review page, we were taken aback a little by the "get prequalified for a Discover Card” offer. On the other hand, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the same-day delivery fee was only $21.98 for those long-stemmed red roses: many competitors charge closer to $30+ for the same service. And, a final pleasant surprise was that we could save $10 next year if we checked the box to make our flower delivery an annual order (and we could cancel anytime if needed).
Does a good job responding when problems arise
Teleflora earns an "A+” rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, and we were glad to see that the most "recent” complaint was two months prior to our evaluation. We weren't so happy to see the 2.98 out of 5-star average across 1800 reviews on the BBB website, or the 2.7-star average across 11,000+ ratings left on Trustpilot (evenly split with 38% 1-star reviews and 38% 5-star reviews). So why haven't we downgraded Teleflora accordingly? It's because of what we were able to see in Teleflora's responses, especially on Trustpilot: complaints received an appropriate apology, confirmation of a full refund, and often a complimentary replacement bouquet or arrangement. Every online florist has its share of issues (because they're usually depending on local network flower shops to deliver, literally and figuratively), but Teleflora's customer service is on point with how they respond.
Better than average
There's a lot to like about using Teleflora as your flower delivery service. Even though they start out a little higher-priced than some competitor flower shops, the opportunities to save (including the lower-than-average delivery fees on regular and same-day orders) make Teleflora a good deal overall. And, we love that their customer service is taking care of clients who have experienced a problem (because every florist has them). On the downside, the website wasn't as easy to use as we had expected, and we'd really love to see Teleflora not have thousands of complaints to respond to in the first place. All of that combines to earn this flower delivery company a good rating here.
Flowers have long been a universal way to show you care, whether you're celebrating a birthday, offering condolences, or just brightening someone's day. Each bouquet can carry its own meaning - roses for love, lilies for sympathy, sunflowers for cheer - making flowers a perfect gift for almost any occasion.
Flower delivery can easily bring the beauty and joy of fresh blooms directly to your door (or the doorstep of someone special) without the hassle of going to a flower shop - when you order online. When you use a flower delivery website, you get access to a variety of options, from timeless classics like those roses and lilies to unique, seasonal arrangements curated by skilled florists.
Some services even offer same-day or next-day delivery, so you can send a thoughtful gift even if you're shopping at the last minute. How do they get it done? Usually, online flower delivery services are partnered with a florist network, so that your order is fulfilled by someone local (although there are a few who ship their bouquets directly from the farm).
Want to make your gift even more special? You can often add on a vase, balloons, chocolates, or a custom greeting card with a personal message. This flexibility makes it easy to personalize your order so that it perfectly fits the sentiment you want to convey.
So, which online florist should you use for your next beautiful bouquet or artful arrangement? Choosing the right flower delivery service can depend on a few key factors:
