Leesa is the foam mattress brand you'll feel great about supporting. Their beds are assembled in the US, letting you help the economy with your purchase, and the company goes out of its way to benefit others in lots of ways. More on that later, but you'll also love the way these mattresses help you sleep.

5 all-foam and hybrid mattresses to choose from

When choosing a foam mattress from Leesa, you'll have five styles and sizes to consider:

  • Studio ($549-$999): Leesa's 10” value mattress has three foam layers and is good for all sleep positions. This mattress comes in sizes ranging from Twin to Cal King.
  • Original ($849-$1,399): this is Leesa's first mattress style. It also sits at a height of 10” but adds a breathable cover and exclusive top layer to help you sleep cooler than the Studio design. The available sizes are the same as with the Studio.
  • Original Hybrid ($949-$1,599): take the benefits of the Original mattress and add a layer of 789+ springs for extra support and airflow, and you wind up with Leesa's Original Hybrid. You've got the full range of sizes here.
  • Sapira Hybrid ($1,199-$2,099): stepping up from the Original Hybrid, this mattress has a hole-punched top layer for extra hug and bounce, plus 1,000+ pocket springs for even greater durability and stability no matter how you sleep. This mattress also comes in all sizes.
  • Legend Hybrid ($1,899-$2,699): Leesa's luxury mattress has not one but two layers of springs, giving you plenty of edge support plus hip and shoulder comfort. The cover is made of 100% organic cotton and Merino wool for moisture wicking too. The only size exception for this model is the standard Twin; the smallest on offer is the Twin XL.

Big discounts - and free pillows

There was a big sale going on during our most recent visit to the Leesa online store. Mattresses were discounted up to $400, and every purchase came with two free pillows. That brought the price on an Original Twin down to just $749 ($100 off) and the Legend King down to $2,299 ($400 off). We also spotted a pop-up with a 15% discount when signing up for the Leesa mailing list.

Attention residents of Alaska and Hawaii

If you live in Alaska or Hawaii, you'll definitely want to look at Leesa mattresses. Why? We didn't spot any other brand that includes your state in the "free delivery” range. You'll have $100 deducted from your refund if you decide to return your mattress after the 100-night sleep trial, but that's it.

Best Foam Mattress Stores

Made in the USA - mostly

One change we've noticed with Leesa since our last review is that their mattresses are no longer 100% USA-sourced-and-made. While they're still designed and manufactured in the US, the components are both domestic and imported. That's not a reason to avoid buying your foam mattress here, but it's worth pointing out if the "made in the USA” label was a driving factor for your purchase.

Doing great things in the community

Leesa donates a mattress to a child in need for every ten that they sell - more than 37,000 so far. And these are no cast-off returns either: they're made to order for each child, with the same high-quality foam Leesa is known for and designed to be the perfect height for bunk beds. Beneficiaries have included the Los Angeles LGBT Center, Thrive Arizona, and Covenant House, among others. But yes, returned mattresses are donated too; sometimes Leesa will schedule the pickup, and in others they'll let you make the arrangements. That's a big part of the reason why Leesa is a certified B corporation: they're committed to being a force for good and keeping mattresses out of landfills.

Stellar reputation

And yes, these mattresses also do just fine reputation-wise. Leesa still has an "A+” and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, and there were only 10 complaints filed there over the course of three years. The only complaints people seem to have about buying a Leesa mattress relate to the delivery end of the process - which is often out of Leesa's hands, though they make every effort to get issues taken care of. You can read reviews both on and off the Leesa site and you'll find lots of loyal repeat customers who won't sleep on anything but a Leesa mattress, ranking them higher than even the most premium, well-known brands.

#1 for foam mattresses

Leesa lets you sleep well at night - not only because their mattresses are fantastic, but also because your purchase supports a company doing good in the world. Win-win! There's no reason you shouldn't make Leesa the brand you choose when shopping for a great foam mattress. This is our first-place winner in the industry.

Which Brand of Foam Mattress is the Best?

You may have found your curiosity piqued by a mattress-in-a-box unboxing video, watching a seemingly too-small carton produce a king-size mattress in just a matter of seconds. Yes, you really can get an amazing night's sleep from one of these mattresses that gets shipped to your doorstep - no need to drive around town and strap your new bed to the roof of your car after all!

In fact, many customers have a strong preference for foam mattresses over the traditional spring or coil versions paired with a box spring. Technology has come a long way over the last decade or so, and if you're tired of waking up with an aching back, sore shoulder, or irritable partner (because your tossing-and-turning shook the bed all night), you'll definitely want to consider what a foam mattress can do for you.

Foam Mattress FAQ

When you hear "foam mattress", you might immediately think of egg carton-like pads used for sleepovers or campouts. Those are nothing like the foam mattresses that have taken the bedding industry by storm: well-constructed, delivered right to your home, and possibly giving you the best night's sleep you've ever had.
Traditional mattresses often create pressure points, leaving you sore and restless. Foam mattresses are designed to contour to your body, offering support and comfort all night long.
Yes - and sometimes you can even find options with different levels of firmness on each side! Not every manufacturer offers you a choice, but you can read through customer reviews to see how each brand "sleeps". The experience varies based on the sleeper's weight, sleeping position, and other factors, so finding comments from people similar to you can be a good guide for your purchase.
You'll spend anywhere from $390 to $6100 for a foam mattress. As you'd expect, twin sizes are less expensive than king-size mattresses, and many manufacturers have designs ranging from basic to luxury.
Yes. Most of the time, your foam mattress will be delivered at no extra charge. Considering how much effort it would take to go to a local mattress store and drive it home yourself (or worse, pay for delivery), this is a huge perk when buying a foam mattress online. There might be a learning curve to get your mattress set up initially - you may have even seen a few humorous unboxing videos, showing how these mattresses expand when you take them out of the box - but most customers say it's pretty straightforward.
Usually within 1-2 weeks. You might have to wait a little longer during popular buying times (with June through September being the busiest times, since the mattress industry usually debuts new products then).
This is probably one of the biggest perks to buying a foam mattress: most manufacturers give you a lengthy trial period ranging from several weeks to a year, so that you can put it to use and see how well you sleep. That's important because foam mattresses can take some getting used to (and you might actually feel a little sore for the first few days to a week!). Better yet, some of the best foam mattress companies will let you return your mattress (or donate it locally) absolutely free of charge if you decide during the trial period that you don't like it.
Absolutely! It's easy to find thousands of reviews from customers and a Better Business Bureau listing for most foam mattress companies today, so you can feel perfectly confident ordering your new bed from any one of them. Sweet dreams!

Continued from above...

What do you need to know about this type of mattress? First, there's a distinction between all-foam and hybrid construction. All-foam is just like it sounds: every layer consists of some kind of foam that either contours to your body or supports the mattress as a whole. These layers can vary quite widely from one brand to another, and even within the same manufacturer - offering different mattress heights, levels of support, and firmness at the edge of the bed itself. Hybrid mattresses are a combination of foam and coils or springs. These are usually designed to give you more support and cooling, and give you a sleep experience that more closely approximates what you're used to while offering the softer, more supportive feel of foam.

One innovation we've seen recently is flippable foam mattresses. If you're not sure whether you prefer yours to be on the firm or soft side, no worries: several brands give you a two-in-one experience. But, even if you don't purchase a two-sided foam mattress, you're not stuck with whatever you buy.

Why? Every brand in our review gives you at least 30 nights to try it out and see how it feels - because it can take at least that long for your body to adjust to a new mattress. Most foam mattresses give you even longer than that, from 100 days to a full year, and you can return it if you wind up thinking something else would be a better fit. Just watch for the details on that trial period: some companies charge a return fee, while others give you a full refund.

It's incredible how many foam mattress companies have hit the market over the last few years. Which one should you pick? You might feel overwhelmed even trying to start shopping around. We've evaluated some of today's most popular brands, and while you browse, here are some factors to keep in mind:

  • Mattress Size. Believe it or not, not every brand carries every size of mattress. If you're shopping for a Queen or King, you can likely choose any foam mattress company that catches your attention. But, if you need a standard Twin, some brands only carry the Twin XL length in the higher-end models. And, if you need a split King or Cal King, you may not find it everywhere you shop. Before you get too far down the track, make sure that the store has your required size in stock.
  • Desired Benefits. What are you most hoping for in your foam mattress? Are you sleeping warmer than ever and would love something that cools you down? Do you need cradling support for aching joints? Are you allergy-prone and need a mattress that's organic (yes, those do exist!)? Make your "must have” list to help you narrow down the options.
  • Budget. What are you willing to spend for your mattress? You could find a great model for under $1,000 or a super-luxe one for over $15,000. You don't necessarily have to overspend to get a good night's sleep, and knowing what your budget is in advance can help you resist some of the "nice but not necessary” options out there.
  • Trial and Returns. How long can you sleep on the mattress before making your final decision? What's the process for making a return? Some companies take care of it for you, while others ask you to donate it to a nonprofit and provide a receipt before issuing your refund. Will you have to pay a return fee?
  • Customer Reviews. This could be the key factor in making your final choice on your foam mattress. What do people who sleep like you (size, support level, injuries/conditions, sleep habits) say about the one you're considering? And what do shoppers say about the overall customer service experience with the brand?
