The Best Fruit Clubs

Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

When you opt for The Fruit Company's fruit club, you're diving into a slice of American history. Established by the Webster family in 1942, this business pioneered mail-order apples and pears in the United States, eventually expanding its offerings to include cherries and an array of fruits.

Most (but not all) fruit comes from the PNW

Much of the fruit you receive from The Fruit Company is handpicked from their orchards in Hood River, Oregon, giving you that distinct farm-to-table taste. Of course, this definitely doesn't apply to all fruit varieties, like Ruby Red Grapefruit in March or Maui Pineapple in May: it's safe to assume that these unique options aren't grown in the Pacific Northwest.

4 different fruit clubs

So, let's take a look at what your options are. The Fruit Company offers four distinct plans for your fruit club subscription, all with free shipping:

  • Americana: This is the most budget-friendly option, starting at just $139 for three months. With this club, you'll enjoy a colorful mix of oranges, pears, grapefruit, apples, pineapple, cherries, blueberries, and peaches. You choose a size - Classic is about 4 pieces, Grand comes with 8, Deluxe comes with 15, and Executive comes with 30; depending on the fruit, you could get up to 24 lbs in your box.
  • Medley: If you'd rather sample two different types of fruit each month, the Medley club is perfect for you. It also begins at $139 for three months and includes various combinations like two varieties of pears or mangoes, peaches and nectarines, grapefruit and mandarins, and more. Be aware, though, that the months with cherries will probably consist of a single variety. Depending on the month and the size you choose, you'll get anywhere from 2-20 pounds of fruit.
  • Organic: If you prefer organic fruit, this certified organic monthly fruit club starts at $149 for a three-month plan. Fruit selections may include Pink Lady apples, Green D'Anjou pears, Rainier cherries, nectarines, and peaches.
  • Exotica: For the adventurous fruit enthusiasts, the Exotica club introduces you to less common varieties not often found in traditional fruit subscriptions. It starts at $159 for three months and might offer you a chance to sample blood oranges, star fruit, Christmas pomegranate, and more. Your box will come with anywhere from 1-21 lbs of fruit, based on the size of the subscription and the fruit type.
Best Fruit Clubs

You'll be satisfied (even if there's no obvious guarantee)

Although the satisfaction guarantee isn't explicitly outlined on their website, The Fruit Company has a history of standing by everything they ship. In the past, they've offered exchanges, refunds, or credits within 30 days of delivery.

Customers love these fruit clubs

What's particularly reassuring is the abundance of positive reviews from satisfied customers. The company holds an "A" rating from the Better Business Bureau, a noteworthy achievement for an establishment with nearly eight decades of operation and only six registered complaints in the last three years. When you look at customer feedback, you consistently find people saying that their fruit was not only on time but early, the quality is impeccable and the flavor is outstanding. From the elegant presentation in the box to the mouthwatering flavor of the fruits themselves, The Fruit Company's monthly deliveries consistently impress recipients.

Excellent choice

The combination of their enduring reputation for quality and their diverse range of options places The Fruit Company among the top providers of fruit clubs. We wholeheartedly recommend exploring their plans to delight the fruit lovers in your life.

Frog Hollow Farm Review 4.5 Star Rating

Frog Hollow Farm

4.5 Star Rating
  • Prices start at $185.99 for three months for 3 pounds of organic mixed fruit
  • Can choose monthly (3, 6, or 12 months) or weekly (4, 8, or 16 weeks)
  • Can choose 3, 5, or 10 lbs of fruit in each shipment
  • Some seasonal options with just one fruit (such as apricots)
  • Free shipping
  • Strong commitment to the environment
  • Satisfaction guaranteed
  • In business since 1989
  • Almost 10,000 five-star reviews

Established in 1989, Frog Hollow Farm operates with a strong commitment to regenerative agriculture principles. Their entire range of produce, including peaches, nectarines, blood oranges, pluots, cherries, and more, is grown organically. Emphasizing environmental stewardship, the farm goes the extra mile by offsetting all of their shipping-related carbon emissions, utilizing eco-friendly packaging, and employing non-toxic, biodegradable ice packs to ensure the freshness of your fruit deliveries.

Two year-round fruit club options

There are two main fruit clubs to choose from at Frog Hollow Farm:

  • Monthly Cornucopia of California: the seasonal best of California organic fruit, you'll get apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines, pears, apples, pomegranates, citrus, and other produce. It's always a mixed box, and you can choose to receive 3, 5, or 10 pounds at a time. Prices range from $185.99 for a 3-month subscription with three pounds, all the way up to $1749.99 for a year-long plan with 10 pounds of fruit in each box.
  • Weekly Farm Box: this is essentially the same as the monthly plan, but, well, weekly. You can set up your deliveries to come every week for 4, 8, or 16 weeks, in the same quantities as the Cornucopia. Prices go from $247.99 for 4 weeks with 3 pounds per box, up to $2332.99 for 16 weeks with 10 pounds per box.

Look for limited-quantity seasonal subscriptions

There may also be some seasonal fruit clubs on offer, depending on when you visit the online store. For example, we spotted the Gotta Have My Apricots option, but unfortunately it was sold out at the time of our evaluation.

Shipping is (probably) free

How about shipping? On every fruit club, it says that delivery fees will be calculated at checkout - but for each club we added to our cart, it wound up saying that shipping was free. Just keep an eye on that when you get to the checkout page.

Best Fruit Clubs

Nearly 10,000 five-star reviews

Frog Hollow Farm gets a lot of love from loyal customers. We found almost 11,000 reviews averaging an impressive 4.8 out of 5 stars, and almost 10,000 of those ratings were a perfect score. Many of the reviews were for specific produce, making it easy to see that the peaches, plums, cherries, and everything in between comes carefully packed and typically in perfect condition. And, when something wasn't so fresh and flawless, customers report that Frog Hollow Farm made it super-easy to get a replacement shipment without a hassle. That makes it much easier to ignore the Better Business Bureau's "C+" rating for the farm, since it was for failure to respond to a single complaint (which may have just fallen through the cracks).

Inventory drop or limited visibility out-of-season?

Their fruit club selection at Frog Hollow Farm used to be much broader - or maybe just more transparent year-round. For example, in the past, we could see several different types of peach clubs, one specifically for pluots, you get the idea. And maybe Frog Hollow Farm still has all of those choices and they just don't show them when the season isn't on the horizon - but if someone is scoping out a Christmas gift, let's say, and they want to offer their favorite peach-lover a subscription that will start later, they won't even know that's an option if they're browsing in the fall.

Best organic fruit club

If having fresh-from-the-orchard organic fruit is what you're after, Frog Hollow Farm should be on your list of fruit clubs to check out. While you'll pay accordingly, you'll undoubtedly be delighted by the quality of the produce and the attentiveness of the customer service. Frog Hollow Farm earns a very high rating for delivering top-quality, organic fruit nationwide.

Lots of flexibility

A Gift Inside offers exceptional flexibility. Whether you want deliveries during specific months or to tailor shipments based on what's scheduled for a particular month, this company accommodates your preferences. Great for gift-giving

For gift subscriptions, the initial delivery serves as a pleasant surprise, revealing details such as the months of expected packages and your personalized message on a gift card. While you can select the delivery date for the first package (available Tuesday through Saturday), subsequent months' boxes consistently arrive during the second week of each month.

Amazing Clubs

  • Approximately 5 pounds of fruit in each delivery
  • 2 different kinds of fruit in each box, selected for you
  • Pricing ranges from $43.95 to $45.95 per month
  • Free shipping
  • Plans include 3, 4, 6, or 12 month options
  • Deliveries can be spaced out every other month
  • Great gift-giving features
  • Fun newsletter with every delivery
  • Exceptional guarantee and customer service
  • "A+" rated by the BBB

When it comes to subscription clubs, Amazing Clubs is a name we often recommend. They've earned their reputation for delivering quality and providing exceptional customer service, whether it's flowers or cigars that you've ordered. Across most categories they offer, Amazing Clubs is our go-to platform for monthly memberships, above all as an easy-breezy way to give gifts that will be well-received.

Fruit sourced from top growers worldwide

Amazing Clubs works with top-notch growers from around the world. These growers ensure that the fruit is express-shipped on the very day it's picked, preserving its maximum flavor and freshness. Some of the delightful fruits featured in previous fruit club deliveries include Chinese Gooseberries, Black Splendor Plums, Tarocco Blood Oranges, Reddy Robin Pears, Jamaican Tangelos, and EverCrisp Apples.

You don't get any say in what fruit you get

However, Amazing Clubs falls a bit short compared to other fruit club options on the market. Unlike some providers that allow you to choose from a variety of fruits or select different quantities, here you or your gift recipient will receive two types of fruit, totaling approximately five pounds.

Best Fruit Clubs

Plenty of flexibility with membership

While you may have limited control over the fruit selection, you do have plenty of flexibility when it comes to the membership itself. Amazing Clubs offers four main options (and shipping is included with each price):

  • 3 Month Club: $45.95 per month ($137.85 total)
  • 6 Month Club: $44.95 per month ($269.70 total), with the option for monthly or bi-monthly deliveries
  • 12 Month Club: $43.95 per month ($527.40 total), also available for monthly or bi-monthly deliveries, making it possible to stretch your club out for a two-year period
  • Seasonal Club: $45.95 per month ($183.80 total), delivered every three months for a year

Whether you choose to pay in full upfront or go with a pay-as-you-go plan, the price remains the same. You can also decide when you'd like your fruit club shipments to begin, with the flexibility to schedule up to 11 months in advance. If you ever need to skip a shipment, it's as easy as clicking a button, and the missed delivery will be tacked onto the end of your membership term without any hassle.

Best for gift-giving features

In the realm of gift-giving, Amazing Clubs truly shines. They offer various ways to let your recipient know they're in for a special treat, whether it's through mail or email announcements or by printing something for an in-person surprise. Your recipient will get an email in advance of every delivery, letting them know what fruit to expect; if there's something they don't think they'll like, they have the ability to skip that shipment (in other words, it doesn't have to go through you as the gift-giver).

Don't miss the newsletter

Also, whether the fruit is for some lucky friend or for yourself, each delivery from Amazing Clubs comes with an informative newsletter. "The Fresh Express" includes profiles of the growers, in-depth details about each fruit selection, fun fruit facts, and even interesting recipes to try new ways of enjoying your produce.

Best Fruit Clubs

Absolutely committed to your satisfaction

To further cement your confidence, Amazing Clubs stands by all their subscriptions with the "They'll Love It!" Guarantee. If your shipment arrives less than perfect or if you're dissatisfied for any reason, they're committed to making it right. Plus, you can cancel your subscription at any time and receive a full refund for any prepaid deliveries.

Top pick for guaranteed gift-giving

With over two million happy customers (and hundreds of five-star reviews for the fruit club alone) and an "A+" from the Better Business Bureau, Amazing Clubs has built a solid reputation, and it's easy to understand why. The only drawback is the limited fruit selection, a slight disadvantage compared to other subscription options on our list. However, in all other aspects, this fruit club offers affordability and flexibility, making Amazing Clubs an excellent choice for both personal enjoyment and thoughtful gifting.

Best Fruit Clubs

Extra step if you want to send a gift message

Regarding gift options, you can either print a gift letter or send an email. However, these options are not integrated into the ordering process; instead, you visit their gift announcement page to enter your message separately.

No fruit club reviews, but the company itself is well-liked

While customer reviews specifically for the Fruit Gift of the Month Club are nowhere to be found, Clubs of America has a strong reputation overall. They hold an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and offer a satisfaction guarantee, promising to reship or refund any remaining months if you're unsatisfied for any reason. This commitment suggests a reliable and customer-focused service. And, on Google reviews, their 4.5-star average reflects numerous compliments from happy shoppers saying that orders arrive in great condition, shipping is on time and on point with respect to keeping perishables protected, and so on.

Strong choice

Clubs of America's Fruit Gift of the Month Club continues to be a strong choice. It offers competitive pricing, a wide range of delivery frequency and duration options, and a good reputation for quality and service. While it may lack some advanced features found in higher-rated rivals' subscriptions, and we still wish there were on-site reviews specifically for the fruit club, it remains a dependable option for those seeking reliable and regular fruit shipments.

Hale Groves Review 3.5 Star Rating

Hale Groves

3.5 Star Rating
  • Mostly focused on citrus but some mixed fruit options available
  • Pricing starts at $72.99 for a 3-month sampler
  • Options up to 29 lbs per delivery
  • Free shipping on some clubs
  • "A+" rated by the BBB
  • In business since 1947

Hale Groves is a well-established fruit company based in Vero Beach, Florida. They have been in the fruit business for over seven decades, with a history dating back to 1947. Hale Groves is renowned for its high-quality citrus fruits, particularly oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, and other varieties that thrive in the sunny Florida climate. The company takes pride in offering fresh and hand-picked fruits directly from their own groves.

Hope you like citrus

There are four overall club options to choose from at Hale Groves, but you'll find them to fall into two main categories: all citrus or mixed fruit with a heavy citrus influence. Take a look at what's on offer here:

  • All Seasons: priced from $107.99 for a 3-month subscription, with options for 6, 9, and 12 months, this package provides citrus fruits from November through May, and transitions to peaches, cherries, mangoes, pears, and apples from June through October. The overall quantity depends on the fruit, but you can expect approximately 12 oranges or Honeybells, 6 peaches or apples, 5-6 mangoes, and so on.
  • Deluxe All Seasons: beginning at $123.99 for a 3-month plan, this option mirrors the standard All Seasons package but adds specialty treats with the first delivery (like chocolate chip cookies, pistachios, and more). Just be aware that this is only available for clubs beginning in November-January (as a holiday gift-giving upgrade).
  • Peak of the Season: beginning at $83.97 for a 3-month sampler tray, this fruit club focuses on citrus from November through June. It's only available as a three-month subscription, so choose your start month carefully. You can also get this club in a larger size (8 lbs. as opposed to the sampler's 4 lbs).
  • Citrus Lovers Club (3, 5, or 8 months): available as All Oranges, All Grapefruit, or Mixed, starting prices range from $72.99 to $179.99 for a 4-lb sampler. You can also get anywhere from 8-29 lbs of fruit if you really love citrus.

Shipping isn't always included in the price

It's important to note, however, that free shipping is not included with every club. In fact, we only found that on offer for the Peak of the Season plan. Otherwise, Hale Groves will show you during checkout what you'll pay: it's not as good as "free" , but it's not horrible either. For example, on a 12-month plan of the All Seasons fruit club, delivery was an additional $91.54 for the year.

Best Fruit Clubs

Strong reputation

On the flipside, much like other fruit clubs, Hale Groves assures you that your produce will be fresh and flavorful - and if, by any chance, it falls short, they're committed to making it right. You'll discover a wealth of compliments from devoted, returning customers who speak highly of this fruit store - a respectable 4.7 star average across nearly 500 ratings - and there are even some ratings on the individual fruit clubs, almost all very positive. Given that the BBB continues to give Hale Groves a perfect "A+" , you can trust that their responsive customer service team swiftly and courteously addresses any delivery concerns.

Just average for gifting features

While the gift-giving options here may not amaze you, you can include a brief gift message during the checkout process (but that's about the extent of it). We also noticed an additional offer of pears in our shopping cart, which could serve as a delightful bonus treat. If you want to add a little upgrade to your order

Best if citrus fruit is your favorite

Hale Groves gives you a variety of fruit clubs to select from, and they are bound to appeal most to citrus enthusiasts (or those looking to give a subscription to citrus lovers). However, it's worth noting that they fall on the pricier side, particularly when you factor in shipping and handling costs. Give Hale Groves a chance if you don't see the citrus-heavy subscription you're looking for with one of our higher-ranking clubs.

Harry and David Review 3.5 Star Rating

Harry and David

3.5 Star Rating
  • Many different fruit club types to choose from
  • Get a plan that's all fruit or that includes other treats
  • Pricing starts at $94.99 for three months
  • Excellent satisfaction guarantee
  • Get free shipping with Passport annual membership
  • Part of the 1-800 Flowers brand family
  • Lots of five-star reviews

Harry & David, synonymous with gift-giving, has elevated its standing since our previous evaluation, thanks to an influx of overwhelmingly positive customer feedback. Alongside sister companies like Cheryl's Cookies, The Popcorn Factory, Wolferman's, and 1-800-Flowers, this platform opens up a world of gifting possibilities for any occasion or even as a personal treat.

Fruit and more in your subscription options

A visit to their Fruit of the Month Club page unveils a plethora of membership options (though it's worth noting that not all are fruit-related). What distinguishes Harry & David is the transparency they offer: you can see precisely what each month of your chosen fruit club entails, and that can even help you decide which month to start your deliveries or how many shipments you want to get. Fruit club options here include:

  • Medley: Starting at $129.99 for a three-month plan, this subscription caters to fruit enthusiasts who want two varieties of fruit each month, such as pineapple, pears, persimmons, and plenty more. The total weight ranges from two to seven pounds of fruit per delivery.
  • Favorites: Starting at $144.99 for three months, this subscription offers an enticing mix of fruit, desserts, chocolates, and other Harry & David classic treats. In fruit-only months, you can anticipate receiving around four pounds. Just be aware that some months won't have any fruit at all.
  • Organic: Beginning at $139.99 for three months, this membership delivers roughly 2-6 pounds of organic fruit per month. Strawberries, pears, and mangoes are among the organic offerings.
  • Signature Classic: From a starting price of $109.99 for three months, this plan supplies 2-6 pounds of seasonal fruit each month.
  • Signature Lite: Starting at $94.99 for three months, this fruit club mirrors the Classic but in smaller quantities (1-4 lbs).
  • Presidential: Commencing at $129.99, this club is perfect for those seeking exotic fruits like Lemon Plums and Peppermint Peaches. Each shipment includes up to six pounds of fruit.
  • The Favorite Pear: Beginning at three deliveries for $109.99, this club exclusively offers pears sourced from around the world, such as the New Zealand Taylor's Gold and Royal Riviera. You'll receive up to four pounds of pears in each box.
  • Citrus: Starting at $99.99 for three deliveries, this plan focuses solely on citrus fruits like clementines and California navel oranges, with each box containing between four and eight pounds of fruit.

Do you have a Passport?

Notably, shipping fees are not included in the fruit club prices, with deliveries incurring an additional cost of $5.99 to $6.99 each. While these fees are lower than some competitors, it's worth noting that certain rivals offer free shipping. However, you may get free shipping if you opt into the annual Passport Celebrations plan: it's $29.99 per year and gets you free delivery on a long list of gifts, treats, and more through most of the Harry & David store and its sister brands. It's definitely worth looking into on clubs lasting at least 5 months, or if you know you do a lot of gift-giving throughout the 1-800 Flowers family.

Best Fruit Clubs

No spotlight on farms or growers here

What sets Harry & David apart (and not necessarily in a positive way) is their approach to fruit sourcing. Unlike many fruit clubs, they don't necessarily establish specific grower relationships, and they don't own orchards and farms. While this isn't particularly an issue, some customers prefer fruit memberships that prominently feature the growers involved, a consideration worth keeping in mind.

Their reviews are proof of their commitment

Harry & David's commitment to customer satisfaction is commendable. If you or your fruit club recipient aren't pleased with any of their deliveries, they pledge to make it right, a level of service you'd expect from a reputable brand like Harry & David within the 1-800-Flowers family. With an abundance of reviews now available on the Harry & David site, especially for different fruit clubs, we're happy to report that customer feedback overwhelmingly leans towards an impressive average of around 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Good club if you're loyal to the brand

Harry & David offers a diverse range of possibilities within their fruit clubs, spanning from all-citrus options to medleys of assorted fruits and other delightful treats. Their pricing falls within the average range, considering the added shipping costs. And, because their fruit subscriptions now have lots of favorable reviews on display, we're glad to give Harry & David a half-star bump since our previous evaluation. However, there isn't a distinctive element that sets their fruit memberships apart from the competition, so we'd encourage you to check out the higher-rated rivals first.

Pittman & Davis Review 3 Star Rating

Pittman & Davis

3 Star Rating
  • 6 fruit clubs to choose from, including variety and all citrus
  • Prices start at $22.99/month
  • Free shipping on all fruit clubs
  • Satisfaction guaranteed
  • "A+" rated and accredited by the BBB

Pittman & Davis boasts an impressive legacy in the fruit industry, with nearly a century of expertise, primarily focusing on the cultivation of Ruby Red grapefruit in the Texas Rio Grande Valley. Their fruit clubs extend beyond grapefruit, incorporating produce from partner orchards in Florida as well as apple and pear orchards in the Northwest. Regardless of the source, Pittman & Davis diligently ensures that every piece of fruit is individually hand-wrapped and promptly packaged within hours of harvest, prioritizing flavor and freshness above all else.

Lots of fruit clubs to consider

Pittman & Davis has expanded its options since the last time we took a close look at their fruit clubs. Here's what you have to choose from now:

  • Harvest-A-Month (starting at $109.99/3 months): one type of fruit every month, ranging from pears and apples to oranges and peaches. Choose from 3, 6, or 12 month plans.
  • Harvest-A-Month Lite (starting at $79.99/3 months): same type of fruit variety as the previous subscription, just less fruit (about half as much). Choose from 3, 6, or 12 month plans.
  • Simply Citrus (starting at $114.99/3 months): as the name suggests, you get nothing but oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, and so on. Because of the seasonal nature of citrus, you can only subscribe for 3, 5, or 7 months, with deliveries possible in November through May.
  • Citrus Supply-All Grapefruit (starting at $22.99 for a 6-pack): for this club, you choose a quantity you want to receive rather than a subscription length. Options include 6 grapefruit, 1/4 bushel, 1/2 bushel, or 1 full bushel, with pricing ranging from $22.99 to $74.99 per delivery. Deliveries are possible from November through June.
  • Citrus Supply-All Oranges (starting at $22.99 for a 6-pack): if all you want are oranges, this is the subscription for you. It's structured the same as the All Grapefruit plan in both quantities and pricing, as well as delivery months.
  • Citrus Supply-Navels and Grapefruit (starting at $22.99 for a 6-pack): for the best of both citrus worlds, there's this plan. It is also set up like the other two All Citrus plans, but each box will have a mix of Rio Ruby red grapefruit and navel oranges.

No matter which Pittman & Davis fruit club gets your attention, you'll always get free shipping on your delivery.

Best Fruit Clubs

Feedback is mixed

How about reputation? We're happy that there have been some customer reviews added to most of the fruit club options: there aren't a ton of them, but what's out there is positive. And, the positive track record continues with an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, with zero complaints filed over the last year.

Quality decline

However, there are definitely complaints elsewhere, and many more than when we evaluated Pittman & Davis before. Although customer reps seem to respond every time and do so politely (in keeping with the store's satisfaction guarantee), it seems like quality has declined somewhat: people describe moldy, mushy oranges or rock-hard, juice-less grapefruit. When that's supposed to be your specialty, it looks even worse when it's not coming in good condition.

Just okay

While we're pleased to see some steps in a positive direction (like adding customer reviews to the fruit clubs and offering different subscription varieties), the decrease in customer satisfaction balances them out - leaving Pittman & Davis with the same middle-of-the-road rating from us as before.

Dragonberry Review 3 Star Rating

  • Specializes in unique varieties of fruit
  • Around 4-5 pounds of one type of fruit in each delivery
  • Priced from $297 for 3 months to $990 for 12 months
  • Free shipping
  • In business since 2004

The Dragonberry Fruit Club operates from the Pacific Northwest, a region known for its abundant and high-quality food production. As a prominent boutique shipper specializing in fresh fruit, the company has cultivated partnerships with growers across the globe. This enables them to provide a selection of fresh and flavorful fruit that is carefully picked and shipped at the peak of ripeness. Since their establishment in 2004, they have meticulously developed and refined their selection, packing, shipping, and delivery processes to ensure the highest quality for each fruit variety.

Exotic fruit in each box

The Dragonberry Fruit Club is dedicated to delivering the finest fruit to discerning fruit enthusiasts who appreciate the best, most unique, and rarest items available. Each fruit variety is thoughtfully chosen based on its flavor and color profile and harvested at the optimal moment for swift shipment. That means you won't find your run-of-the-mill Red Delicious apples or Valencia oranges in these boxes. Instead, prepare to sample fruits like Chocolate Persimmons, Longan, Rambutan, and more. You'll only get one type of fruit in each box.

Beautiful and informative boxes

Every monthly fruit shipment is skillfully hand-packed into a stylish keepsake box designed to cater to fruit connoisseurs. Each Dragonberry Club box includes details about the origin of the fruit, serving suggestions, and helpful info on how to store the fruit to help the freshness last even longer.

This fruit club is not cheap

But, you should prepare yourself for higher-than-average prices for this unique fruit club. Although shipping is included on all three subscription lengths (3, 6, or 12 months), you'll still pay $297 for three deliveries, $540 for six, and $990 for 12. If you do the math, you'll realize that the per-month price is anywhere from $82 to nearly $100. If you live in a place where exotic fruits from around the world are hard to come by, you might not object to paying $20 to $25 per pound of produce. But for the rest of us, this fruit club is going to be on the expensive side - then again, if you're looking to impress someone who fashions him- or herself as a foodie, Dragonberry Club fits the bill.

Almost zero feedback for the company, none for the fruit club

We just wish we could find more feedback from subscribers of Dragonberry's fruit subscription. Most clubs have customer reviews right on the website, a rating from the BBB, or something else to point to as proof that your money is going to a company you can count on. Unfortunately, we didn't spot any of that, aside from a few random reviews on Facebook and Yelp (where most of the comments were from shipping companies or spammers). Even their Instagram link on their own website took us to an "account not found" type of message.

Ready to gamble?

Dragonberry Fruit Club is intriguing, we'll definitely give it that. For anyone looking to go beyond generic grocery store fruit and try new varieties of old favorites or something they've never even seen before, this is going to be an attention-getter. But, with so little to go on - with respect to how well the fruit is packaged, how fresh it is after it arrives, how the customer support team responds when there's a problem - it's hard to give Dragonberry more than three stars. At the $80 to $100 per month price point, this fruit club is a little risky, but we're curious enough to want to give it a try.

  • Focus on exotic fruit: one type per box
  • Choose 3, 6, or 12 month plan
  • Prices range from $123.95 to $403.95
  • Flat-rate shipping charge of $45 to $110, depending on club length

Melissa's, as part of World Variety Produce, Inc., has been a major influence in the global produce market since 1984. In fact, it now holds the title of the largest distributor of specialty produce in the United States.

Reliable source for fresh produce

Operating from a spacious 330,000 square foot facility in Los Angeles, Melissa's serves as a reliable source for fresh produce. With extensive engagement from consumers and partnerships with grocery retailers, as well as a presence on various online grocery platforms, Melissa's products have become widely accessible. Additionally, their food service division collaborates with esteemed chefs and enhances culinary offerings at sports venues nationwide, showing their dedication not only to quality but also to community involvement and philanthropy.

Not the variety we expected

All that being said, we were a little surprised at the lack of variety in the fruit clubs at Melissa's. Your only choice is whether you want it delivered for 3, 6, or 12 months, because every box focuses on exotic fruit. Or maybe not so exotic: while we found some unusual selections like cherimoya and feijoas, we weren't so wowed by the inclusion of fruits we find regularly at the grocery store too (like kiwi and Ambrosia apples). Each month only brings one type of fruit to your doorstep, so if for example you don't love chestnuts (November's selection), you'll have to live with it because that's all you're getting.

$56 for less than a pound of fruit?!

Pricing on this fruit club isn't unreasonable - at first glance. It starts at $123.95 for a three-month subscription and maxes out at $403,95 for the full year plan. However, that doesn't include the shipping fees, which go from $45 for the 3-month plan, up to $110 for the 12-month subscription. That makes the monthly price as much as $56. Not only is that more spendy per month than most rival fruit clubs we reviewed, but when you look at how much you're (not) getting in each delivery - just 9 ounces of Goldenberries in the July box or 1.5 pounds of kiwi in May - that's some pretty expensive produce.

The juice is not worth the squeeze

Maybe the cost would be worth it if the fruit varieties were something you couldn't buy at your local Whole Foods or if the customer service were extremely on point, but that's not the feedback we've seen. By and large, people are often disappointed with the quality of the produce - and with the less-than-accommodating response from customer service - at Melissa's. There's not a ton of feedback or reviews out there, but we read enough comments about fruit arriving rotten to give us pause. Sure, that happens with any fruit club, but when the reply is anything short of "let's get you a refund or a redelivery ASAP" , it's just not acceptable.

Not a fruit club we recommend

Among fruit clubs, Melissa's stands out - in all the wrong ways. You don't get multiple types of fruit in each box, you don't get to choose anything other than the subscription length, and the produce you're going to spend more for... isn't worth it. Leave Melissa's aside and try one of its more reliable competitor subscriptions instead.

Continued from above...

Of course, convenience is another reason why people love fruit clubs. n a world where time is a precious commodity, people appreciate services that simplify their lives. Monthly fruit subscriptions eliminate the need for regular trips to the grocery store, saving both time and effort. This convenience is particularly appealing to busy professionals, families, and individuals with hectic schedules who want a hassle-free approach to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

It's important to remember that different fruits have varying shipping abilities. That's why in fruit club shipments, you'll commonly find fruits with more hardy skins or peels, like pears, oranges, grapefruits, and apples. They tend to withstand shipping better than softer alternatives like strawberries and grapes.

However, some fruit clubs may pleasantly surprise you with those fruits - as well as delicious cherries, peaches, and nectarines. A few subscriptions even allow you to opt for organic fruits, complement your order with gourmet cheese and nuts, or indulge in sweet treats like candy.

Yet, not all fruit clubs are cut from the same cloth. Some operate their own orchards and farms, delivering the freshest produce directly to you, while others serve as intermediaries, sourcing produce from various suppliers. So, how do you determine the ideal fruit club for you?

Here are some key factors to consider as you explore the diverse world of fruit memberships:

  • Fruit variety. Does the fruit club provide a wide selection of fruits to satisfy your taste buds? Can you mix and match different types of fruits to create your perfect selection, either in one box or from one month to the next?
  • Value. What quantity of fruit is included in each delivery, and does it match your expectations? Is shipping included in the subscription fee? Are there options to include additional items beyond fruits, such as gourmet treats?
  • Subscription options. Does the fruit club offer subscription plans that align with your budget and preferred duration? While most memberships span from three to twelve months, are there options for alternative frequencies, such as weekly or quarterly? Can you pay for each delivery as it ships, or do you have to pay upfront?
  • Customer service. Fruit can be a little delicate. Does the company promise to make it right if your apples arrive bruised or the grapefruit are already moldy? Check out what other customers have experienced when subscribing to the fruit club that interests you: is it hassle-free or a headache when you need help?

At Top Consumer Reviews, we've meticulously reviewed and ranked the finest fruit clubs currently available, to help you select the freshest and most delectable fruit subscription box for your upcoming gift-giving occasion or to treat yourself. Indulge in the delight of premium, hand-picked fruits, and elevate your culinary experience with the convenience of a fruit club.
