Founded by Carlyle Weinberger in Chicago, Ashley Furniture started as a small family business in 1945 and has expanded to stores all over the United States. They have physical stores and also offer the opportunity to shop online. They sell a wide variety of furniture which includes futons.
Using the online store
Ashley Furniture offers over 85 different futons with multiple options of colors and styles. They range in price from $159.99 for a metal frame to $1,141.98 for a futon sectional with additional storage. When you go to the online store, you have a variety of sorting options on how to view the futons. They include best seller, price low to high, price high to low, customer rating, new arrivals and names a-z. We did find that searching with price high to low did not show any products above $800 yet there were more expensive options with other sorting options. The website also offers filters to help narrow your search when shopping for futons. These filters include price, average rating, material, brand, style, design, color and upholstery features.
No cost for shipping
Ashley Furniture offers free ground shipping when you order online. With the shipping comes a variety of delivery options to choose from.
Easy return policy
Ashley Furniture offers a return policy. Within 72 hours of receiving your futon, you must contact them for a return. We suggest assembling it quickly to make sure nothing is damaged before your return window expires. To acquire the refund your item must be new and unused and be returned with all of the parts and accessories that came with it. If you purchase an item on clearance, they are final sale items and can only be returned if they arrived damaged. Ashley Furniture states that a refund of payment will take 7-10 business days.
"B+" rating
The Better Business Bureau gave Ashley Furniture a "B+" rating. Most reviews have been positive. Some negative reviews described difficulties with processing a return. The other complaints are regarding the short return window and paying for delivery when it's not offered for free. Positive reviews included their large variety, affordability and ease of ordering.
Financing and large inventory
Overall, we find Ashley Furniture to be a top contender when ordering futons. They have a variety of options with different fabrics, colors and sizes. They also offer financing if needed for 60 months with no minimum purchase and no down payment. They had a superior amount of products to choose from hitting every price point and budget. There are a few futon stores that rank a little higher than Ashley, but you should feel comfortable ordering and buying from here.
Futons are a common piece of furniture to sleep on or relax. The convenience of having it be a chair or couch by day and a bed by night makes it a convenient addition to any house. Futons are great for an extra bed for company that can be left as a couch or chair during the day or when no one is using it. They are also fantastic for bedrooms that have limited space, since you can use it as a bed at night but save space during the day by making it back into a couch.
The mattress cover can be made out of several types of materials, such as microfiber, cotton, linen, velvet - the possibilities are almost endless. Futon mattresses are very similar to traditional mattresses but as an added bonus you can turn the mattress into a couch. Instead of purchasing a bed and a couch, a futon provides both of these pieces of furniture in one for an affordable price. Futon covers are interchangeable so you can update the look of your futon as often as you like.
Traditionally a Japanese style of bedding, a futon consists of a mattress and duvet cover and both are able to be folded and stored away. In Japan, futons are used on a tatami, which is a type of mat. In the United States, typically a futon is used on a wooden or metal frame instead. Futons became popular in the USA in the 1980's and are traditionally thicker and harder to fold up than those in Japan.
There are many retailers to consider when going to shop for a futon, between small businesses, big box stores, online and even an app on your phone. There are a variety of style options to choose too. What color mattress do you need? Do you want a wood frame or a metal one? A chair futon, a couch futon or a bed futon? Once you have an idea of what you are looking for, we have helped narrow down the stores to shop from to find it.
