Lowe's began as a small town hardware store in the state of North Carolina. In 1921, L.S. Lowe founded Lowe's in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. In 1995, they joined the digital world with a website to order from. In 2007, Lowe's expanded outside of the United States by opening a store in Canada and in 2015 they opened in India.
Good search options
Lowe's has 123 products to search when looking for a futon. They have the option to search by size (full, queen) or price. The cheapest option is $104 for a futon chair to $1,629 for a contemporary/modern polyester futon. They have multiple pictures of each futon to show different angles and positions. They also have an overview of the futon, the specific details of each one, customer reviews, and a question and answer section. Included on the item page is also a pdf for the warranty and the use and care of the futon.
Variety of ways to get a futon
Lowe's offers free shipping on orders totaling over $45 before tax. To qualify for free shipping, products must weigh under 150 lbs, so check the weight of your futon before purchasing if you want free shipping. Shipping times do not include processing time, and starts after the item has shipped. Packages will arrive within one to seven business days after it is processed, but they do request seven to ten business days for bulky items. So depending on the size of your futon, it may take a few extra days. Lowe's also offers expedited shipping for an extra fee and some products are available for same-day pickup. One thing we could not find was an option to pay extra for assembly of a futon.
Easy return policy
Lowe's offers a 90-day return policy, and with select Lowe's accounts they offer a 365-day return policy. As long as you have proof of purchase, your refund will be sent to the original form of payment. If you do not have proof of purchase, Lowe's can attempt to look it up from the card used to pay, My Lowe's card, or phone number. If that doesn't work, then at their discretion they can issue store credit, but this will be on a case by case basis. Regardless of if you have proof of purchase or not, you are required to show a picture ID for any refund. To start a return, simply go to any Lowe's and they will be able to assist with resolving the issue. If you are not located near a physical store, you are able to request a shipping label to send it back yourself.
Positive perspective
When checking the Better Business Bureau website, it appears that Lowe's has an A+ rating. Some of the negative comments included receiving multiple damaged items, so make sure to check for damages as soon as the futon is set up. There are also complaints about the extended warranty of items being difficult to use. There were a lot more positive comments, especially pertaining to the ease of returns, large selection of items, quality of materials and the friendly staff.
Decent choice to pick
Overall, Lowe's is an ok choice when looking to purchase a futon. They have a variety of options to choose from in different colors and styles. Their return policy is simple and one that you can do with ease. A negative was not being able to find an option to have Lowe's assemble the futon for you, as other stores offer that option. The positive responses by customers still make Lowe's a good choice to consider when looking to purchase a futon.
Futons are a common piece of furniture to sleep on or relax. The convenience of having it be a chair or couch by day and a bed by night makes it a convenient addition to any house. Futons are great for an extra bed for company that can be left as a couch or chair during the day or when no one is using it. They are also fantastic for bedrooms that have limited space, since you can use it as a bed at night but save space during the day by making it back into a couch.
The mattress cover can be made out of several types of materials, such as microfiber, cotton, linen, velvet - the possibilities are almost endless. Futon mattresses are very similar to traditional mattresses but as an added bonus you can turn the mattress into a couch. Instead of purchasing a bed and a couch, a futon provides both of these pieces of furniture in one for an affordable price. Futon covers are interchangeable so you can update the look of your futon as often as you like.
Traditionally a Japanese style of bedding, a futon consists of a mattress and duvet cover and both are able to be folded and stored away. In Japan, futons are used on a tatami, which is a type of mat. In the United States, typically a futon is used on a wooden or metal frame instead. Futons became popular in the USA in the 1980's and are traditionally thicker and harder to fold up than those in Japan.
There are many retailers to consider when going to shop for a futon, between small businesses, big box stores, online and even an app on your phone. There are a variety of style options to choose too. What color mattress do you need? Do you want a wood frame or a metal one? A chair futon, a couch futon or a bed futon?
