The ordering process can be a bit tricky. When you start picking your meals, Territory pre-selects 8 meals for you. You can actually choose between 6, 8, 10, and 12 meals per week, but the cart will show 8 meals at the outset even if you want a different number. You can remove and add items to tailor your meals to your preferences, but if you don't settle on one of these four quantities (6, 8, 10, or 12 meals), a red notification pops up, and you won't be able to continue to purchase.

Pick and choose your meals

Figuring out the cost at Territory can be a bit tricky. It's a pick-and-choose system, meaning each meal has its own price (usually between $14.99 and $21.99 for most meals). Let's say you want an order with just the cheapest meal, the Buffalo-Style Chicken Chili with Spaghetti Squash for $14.99. To meet the minimum order of 6 meals, your weekly cost would be $89.94 if you choose this meal six times. Now, if you go for the most expensive option, the family-style Balsamic Brushed Chicken at $20.99, and go all out with 12 meals, your weekly cost would be $251.88. However, these prices can change between weeks. For example, we saw a more expensive meal at $21.99 on a different week, so expect a little pricing flexibility.

Promises to provide refunds

Territory beats out several companies in our review with one simple thing: it provides a satisfaction guarantee. According to Territory's policy, if any meal or service isn't satisfactory, they promise to give you a refund. No questions asked, although the policy doesn't mention a specific time limit. So, while it's a good idea to contact customer service sooner rather than later, their definite statement for offering refunds is a breath of fresh air.

Confusing UI causes mixed reviews

Territory's standing in terms of reputation has some drawbacks. The company lacks a rating from the Better Business Bureau, which makes it harder to gauge than some of the other services we evaluated. If you're fine with leftovers, a single person could eat for 4-36 meals per week by splitting meals and saving the leftovers. The gluten-free plan starts at $47.96 per week for the 2-meal plan for 2 people and goes up to $359.64 per week for the 6-meal option serving 6 people. Not Rated and problems abound

Even though Home Chef has been around for more than a decade, the company's reputation doesn't really impress. The Better Business Bureau gave Home Chef a worrying "NR” rating, and on verified third-party review sites, it only has a 2.8-star average rating. A little extra research will show that all of the meals at Trifecta are gluten-free. As a bonus, there is a lot of flexibility with the Trifecta meal plans. You can get support for allergies and sensitivities outside of gluten, and if you want to be totally hands-off, you can let the Trifecta chefs choose your meals for the week. Though, if you prefer to know exactly what you're getting, you can choose it yourself too. Plus if you just want to shop more a la carte style, you can grab their meal prep entrees instead.

This will give you 1 meal per day and no breakfasts. The highest-cost option is the 14-meal and 7-breakfast plan which costs $310.99 per week. This definitely isn't the least expensive service out there, but offering a full three meals a day makes Trifecta very competitive.

Quality is declining over time

As excited as we were about some of the great features at Trifecta, the reviews brought that excitement to a screeching halt. Let's start with the good news. According to Google Reviews, Trifecta is a highly popular service with a solid 4.6 stars out of 5 from 1,000+ individual reviews. However, that's the only good score Trifecta has. Unfortunately, the company holds an abysmal "F” rating from the Better Business Bureau, and an equally startling 1.6-star average from Trustpilot. Customers complained about packages being opened before delivery, and in recent months, the quality of the food has declined.

Low ratings take it out of the competition

Given that Trifecta is one of the more expensive services in our review, the poor reviews and scores from both the BBB and verified review sites put a significant ding in Trifecta's reputation. While we're still impressed with a 100% gluten-free menu, and the 3-meal-a-day option makes it a solid choice for customers looking to fill every meal every week, we just can't ignore the "F” rating. So, for this review, Trifecta falls to a lower rating overall. However, we hope they'll work on their customer service so that the BBB scores and other user ratings match up with some of the more positive feedback from Google Reviews in the future.

You can choose between 7, 14, or 21 different meals in each shipment, meaning you can select enough food for 1, 2, or 3 meals per day for an entire week. These meals are a little different than competitors though: with a mix of smoothies, soups, and noodles, you're not getting as many full "dishes” as you might with other meal services. For example, the 7 meal plan, costing $76.93 per week, contains 2 smoothies, 3 soups, 1 noodle meal, and 1 dish. When you go up to 14 meals, it costs $156.26 per week and you can expect to find 5 smoothies, 5 soups, 2 noodle meals, and 2 dishes. Finally, for the 21 meal plan, which costs $226.79 per week, you can expect to receive 7 smoothies, 7 soups, 4 noodle meals, and 3 dishes.

Pricing is a little confusing

Finding the prices was a little confusing because they were listed differently on different pages. Plus, many of the prices had strike-through marks as if they were on sale, but no mention of a sale was listed. So, the prices we listed in our comparison were the highest we found on the site. For example, the 21-meal plan showed prices from as low as $174.29 per week to $191.79 per week to $209.29 per week before we found the listing for $226.79. These were all the same exact meals, but the numbers were listed in different areas of the site. As far as we could tell, there were no differences in the meals or inclusions, just different pricing, almost like the site hadn't been updated properly which was very confusing. On the bright side, you can select which items you want to fit into those categories, but you are a little limited by the numbers. For example, you can't add a 4th "dish” to your order.

14-day refund policy

If you're not happy with a delivery or something's not right with your package, Splendid Spoon says you can shoot them an email to get the issue resolved. Splendid Spoon also noted that any refunds or credits are "at their discretion,” and there were no guidelines for what issues might qualify for a refund. On the other hand, their refund period is much longer than many competitors. You have fourteen days from when your account got charged for that delivery to bring up a question about the order and request a refund.

Reputation isn't splendid

Unfortunately, for vegan fans, this 100% plant-based meal delivery service doesn't have a great reputation. The company holds a concerning "C-" rating from the Better Business Bureau. And according to third-party reviews, the company only has a 2.7 out of 5-star average. Yikes! Based on feedback from customers, Splendid Spoon falls behind in shipping, selection variety, and problems with orders getting lost. On the positive side, customers who enjoyed the service specifically praised the flavor of the Splendid Spoon smoothies, but that was pretty much it.

Not worth the vegan meals

While having a fully vegan and gluten-free menu sounds great, Splendid Spoon has a few red flags that make this option less competitive. First, the pricing is very confusing. With up to 4 different prices listed for the exact same plans, it can be hard to tell what the final cost will be. The top-level plan is a 7-day plan which includes 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 6 dinners, so you can have a "my night” meal on your own if you want to go off the Bistro MD selection. So, you get a total of 20 meals per week for $219.80.

Missing a refund policy

The company says its customer service team is ready to assist you, but there's no mention of refunds or re-shipments. And, since the program is based on an automatic subscription, if you want to stop, you'll have to go in and cancel it yourself.

"F” rating from the BBB

Despite the company's impressive meal selection and comprehensive gluten-free plan, Bistro MD has other red flags outside of their (lack of) return policy. The Better Business Bureau has given Bistro MD an abysmal "F" rating, and there were 41 different complaints from customers on the BBB at the time of this review. Third-party review sites showed feedback that was a little higher than an "F" rating, with an average score of 3 stars across different sites.

Customer feedback shows warning signs

It's clear that customers have mixed feelings about Bistro MD. One person said the culinary experience was "boring", and many of the reviews offered no praise for the taste of the food. Others complained about the customer service. The general consensus was that it's nearly impossible to reach a representative at Bistro MD when things go wrong with the food or delivery.

Doesn't make the cut

At the end of the day, Bistro MD raises quite a few concerns. The company has a huge red flag from the BBB which awarded it an "F" rating. And since customers weren't thrilled with the taste or overall experience of the food, Bistro MD ended up at the bottom of our list.
