Gutter guards, also known as gutter screens, helmets, or covers are used to prevent debris from entering rain gutters. If you're in the market for a gutter guard then you're already well aware that when debris clogs up your gutters and downspouts, there can be serious damage done to your home - including water spilling on your roof, pooling at the base of your home, expensive foundation problems, mold and mildew, and breeding insects.
Gutter guards are a no-brainer, because they reduce the amount of cleaning you have to do while still allowing rain water to flow freely. You may also be surprised to see how inexpensive they are. Some of them come with warranties up to 20 years and all you have to do is snap them onto the lip of your gutter.

The purpose of LeafFilter is pretty much what it sounds like. The company offers what they call a "one-of-a-kind solution" to keep your gutters safe from common debris. The goal is to help you save thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your home by avoiding hiring out professional gutter cleaners year after year. Their product is made in the USA and guaranteed to outshine the competition.
Installed on existing gutters
LeafFilter is made with micromesh so it doesn't have holes, gaps, or large openings, but still allows the free flow of water. It keeps out debris like pine needles, shingles grit, seed pods, and other materials that clog up the drainage system. LeafFilter is installed directly on your existing gutters after they are cleaned and realigned for the perfect fit.
The other two materials that contribute to the quality of LeafFilter are uPVC and hidden hangers that securely fasten into your fascia board for a strong hold. The uPVC will never warp or deteriorate. It can handle all types of temperatures and weather and has a built-in pitch that allows an optimal angle for shedding debris.
Free, no-cost estimates
To get a free, no-obligation estimate on the cost of having LeafFilter installed at your home, all you have to do is provide your zip code, how many levels there are of your home, the estimated square footage, if you qualify for a senior or military discount, your name, and email address. The estimate you receive is good for one full year, so you have some time to make a final decision once you find out what the cost will be.
Positive customer reviews
LeafFilter is so confident in their product that they offer a transferable lifetime warranty on it. This way you'll have peace of mind that your gutters are protected for life. The company has an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and so does their parent company, LeafHome. What's most reassuring is that they have over 80,000 positive customer reviews online that sing their praises. People say the installation reps do an amazing job, arrive in a timely manner, and clean up the gutters well before and after.
Top rated gutter guard
We've seen many reports where people state LeafFilter is a professional company to work with, they're honest with their customers, and they truly want to do good work. This is a popular company that is continuing to grow and gain new customers. For all these reasons, LeafFilter is our top-rated solution for people looking for gutter guards.
Gutterglove is a Tennessee-based company that offers products to eliminate gutter cleaning by keeping pine needles, leaves, rodents, roof grit, and insects out of your gutters. Their products are made of stainless steel micro-mesh to resist warping and rusting over the years. The company doesn't provide a lot about their history on the website, but their platform is straightforward and appealing.
DIY gutter guards
The gutter guards made and sold by Gutterglove are do-it-yourself, so you shouldn't have to hire a professional to install them unless you want to. You can look up a pro installer in your area by providing your name, zip code, email address, and phone number if you want someone to take care of the work for you.
Works for any roof
Gutterglove makes their products to fit any gutter-to-roof scenario. They proudly boast that no foam, plastic, PVC, or cheap metals are used in their construction. You can see a series of photos of Gutterglove on different types of roofs to get an idea of how it looks and works.

Step-by-step installation guide
There is a helpful, intuitive, step-by-step guide created by Gutterglove that goes over all the tools you may need for installation, how to reach customer service, how to determine the slope of your gutter guard, how it should look in the end, maintenance, and more. Nothing is left in the air if you follow this guide, so hopefully this will save you some money if you are able to confidently install the gutter guards yourself.
Tried and true product
Gutterglove has an "A+" from the Better Business Bureau. What's even better are the high customer ratings on their products. Thousands of people have installed Gutterglove's gutter guards and the overwhelming majority would give it a 5 out of 5-star rating. People say that even in areas with a lot of debris and heavy rain, Gutterglove holds up well and does exactly as promised.
One of our favorites
People report that the quality of Gutterglove holds up and they're happy with their purchase. Since Gutterglove offers a good warranty, helpful installation tips, and a reliable product that customers love, they've earned a great rating from us.
GutterFoam was first marketed in 2003 with the goal to create a long-term solution for keeping gutters free and clear without customers having to continually clean them out or buy replacements. They aim to reduce environmental impact by sending their gutter guard product in a compressed form that reduces shipping costs and packaging materials, regaining its original shape within 24 hours of opening. This company provides a unique and simplified alternative to aluminum, metal, nylon mesh, or plastic gutter guards.
Easy to install
GutterFoam claims to be the easiest, self-installed, weather-resistant, gutter guard available on the market because within minutes you can install it without needing any special tools. You can do it yourself or hire a certified pro to do it for you. People like GutterFoam because it is invisible from the ground but still eliminates dangerous and dirty gutter cleaning.
It is non-absorbent, so large volumes of water can flow right through. Every 6 months it is recommended that customers use a garden hose or leaf blower to clear away stubborn debris caught in the foam, but otherwise it stays clean. GutterFoam won't be damaged by insects, birds, squirrels or other small animals, and its germicidal coating will repel insects and keep mosquitoes from breeding within the gutter.
There are 5 different models of GutterFoam that differ by their cost, warranties, and the coatings used on them. They include:
If you're unsure where to begin when buying GutterFoam, they've put together a handy e-guide to help you identify the style of gutter you have, the size of your gutter, and the model that will be right for you. It's very intuitive, so once you have it figured out, you can go right to the product page of the GutterFoam you need and get it ordered. The product comes in 4' pieces, so you'll need to know how many your home will require before checking out.
Pricing is very inexpensive, considering all the impressive features that come with GutterFoam. For a typical residential house, covering all your gutters would probably cost a couple hundred dollars. When you spend over $40 you'll get free shipping and you could save 10% off your total order if you sign up for GutterFoam's email list.
Possible restocking fees on returns
You can return your unused GutterFoam to the company for a refund, but they don't specify a timeframe. This could mean they are flexible and not worried about how long ago you bought the product. Customers are responsible for shipping charges and could be charged up to 15% in restocking fees, but it does say that may vary.
The photos and videos displayed on GutterFoam's website make it really clear how the product works and what it looks like. They include a useful installation guide to make sure you know what you're doing if you choose to install it yourself. The website is very straightforward and informative, and we like this innovative gutter guard solution. People are generally happy with this product and give the company high reviews, so we've given GutterFoam one of our highest ratings.
RainDrop Gutter Guard Systems are manufactured in the US by Contractor Nation, a leading network of home improvement and service contractors. The company began in 1990, created by a man named Larry Janesky. He had the goal of creating the greatest level of success possible for home contractors. RainDrop is the most recent product of Contractor Nation that helps eliminate the worry of clogged or overflowing gutters for homeowners.
RainDrop Gutter Guard is made to be maintenance-free and self-cleaning so you don't have to put any thought into your gutters once it is installed. It's versatile in that it fits on every roof style and can fit 4" , 5" , 6" and 10" gutters. It's designed to be virtually invisible from the street since it is black and looks like nothing more than a shadow at the roof line. RainDrop can handle any amount of water and even high-volume valleys are not an issue for RainDrop.
Durable blend of materials
The blend of materials used to make RainDrop includes polypropylene and UV stabilizers. It is developed to withstand even the harshest of storms and hottest or coldest climates. A video displaying a durability test of RainDrop can be viewed on their website to show that even a heavy impact will not do damage to the gutter guards.
Find installers near you
Customers can fill out a form directly on RainDrop's website with their name, email, phone number, city, state, and preferred time of day to get information about contractors nearby that are available to install these gutter guards. If you have additional questions, you can reach out to the company by phone or email as well.
Once you have had RainDrop Gutter Guard installed on your house, you'll need to go to their website and fill out a warranty registration within 30 days. Customers are responsible for providing proof of purchase and you'll need to submit details about the installation company, yourself and the project in order to qualify for RainDrop's 20-year limited, transferable warranty.
No BBB rating for RainDrop
Oddly enough the Better Business Bureau (BBB) doesn't have a rating for RainDrop Gutter Guard Systems because according to their files, the company is no longer in business. This doesn't seem to be accurate since the company is still accepting business, updating their website, and even keeping up on their blog. At some point it's likely that the BBB rating will be updated. In the meanwhile, parent company Contractor Nation has an "A+" and accreditation from the BBB, leaving us with no worries about the reputation of either company.
Worth looking into
There is a long list of positive testimonials on RainDrop Gutter Guard Systems' website, but these aren't unfiltered, of course. There are fewer honest customer reviews about this company than we've found from their competitors, but the little amount of feedback we've seen has been positive. This company seems to offer a good product with a solid warranty, so it's definitely worth getting a quote and looking into it if you like what you see. Although it isn't our first choice for gutter guards, they've still earned a high rating from us.
Raptor Gutter Guard originally started out as a gutter cleaning business in 1996. They recognized the need for a reliable gutter guard protection solution and incorporated one into their services in 2000. Raptor continues to explore new materials, designs, and customer needs to ensure they provide top-quality gutter guards. Their product can be installed by the customers themselves or done by one of their professionals.
Three simple materials
Like other gutter guards, Raptor is designed to keep out pine needles, leaves, pests, rodents, and more from gutters. When you buy their product you'll be getting gutter guards, self-tapping screws, and a magnetic hex head. By using these three things, Raptor promises that you'll only have to do it once if you do it right.
Raptor Gutter Guard comes in 4-foot sections made out of aluminum and stainless steel (micro-mesh) to withstand the elements year after year and avoid rusting, warping, and cracking. It's a 30 mesh, meaning there are 900 holes per square inch. Raptor says this is the perfect balance for water filtration and debris blocking. In addition, it is 100% recyclable. Raptor Gutter Guard can be installed on any gutter or roof type.
Intuitive instruction manual
Something Raptor Gutter Guard does a good job of is providing detailed instructions for both measuring and installation. There are two types of kits - a 5" and 6" pack depending on the width of your gutter. Each pack comes with 12 pieces, making 48' total. There is a helpful 11-page installation instruction manual that outlines the recommended tools for the job, how to clean your gutters before getting started, choosing an installation method, how to secure the gutter guards, and every other detail you'd need to know. The manual has useful pictures to make the job as intuitive as possible. If you'd prefer watching videos, you can view them based on the step of installation you're on.
The cost for a 48' foot box of 5" gutter covers is $119.90. If you're needing the 6" size, the cost is $146.90. Both qualify for free shipping and you can buy as many boxes as you need to fit the gutters on your home. The product is designed in the USA and comes with a 25-year warranty. If you buy an extra box of the gutter guards that you don't use, you can return them in new condition within 30 days.
Chat with customer service
While we were browsing Raptor Gutter Guard's website, there was a chat box that kept popping open for us in case we had any questions. We like that they want their customers to have all the information on the product that they need.
Fantastic customer reviews
Raptor Gutter Guard has been described by customers as both durable and simple. You can read thousands of customer reviews from people who have used this product that say they received outstanding service, quality construction, and excellent results. If you have a lot of gutters, this could get expensive to install, but it is meant to last a long time and customers think it is definitely worth it. The Better Business Bureau doesn't have a rating for Raptor Gutter Guard, but they are clearly an impressive and honest company, so we highly recommend their product.
Amerimax is part of the Omnimax family of companies that include fabricators of aluminum, steel, vinyl, copper, and fiberglass products. They boast that they are the leading manufacturer of rain-carrying systems in the United States. Their products are built and distributed by multiple facilities throughout the United States for both consumers and professional contractors.
Variety of gutter guard designs
When it comes to shopping gutter guards at Amerimax, you have quite a few choices depending on the look you want and issues you're having with your gutters. Their list of gutter guards include:
For every type, you can read about the features, material, roof type it is best for, warranty, and installation. Simple and straightforward installation instructions for each type of gutter guard are included for download that you can follow to make sure everything fits into place correctly.
A line of products to protect against home damage
In addition to gutter protection, Amerimax also sells solutions for gutter systems and rainwater diversion. Together these products protect your home from flooding and the damages of standing water around your property. You can download their catalog to see a full product selection with details and specifications of everything they offer.
Helpful how-to videos
For additional information on Amerimax's gutter guards, there is a "How To Center" with short videos that show their product and give tips on installation. They also have videos about clogged gutters, loose downspouts, maintaining gutters and downspouts, and how to clean out gutters. Most people would find these helpful when getting started with a gutter guard installation project.
Amerimax has a "C+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, but this is just from failure to respond to one customer complaint. Other than this they generally have very positive reviews from buyers who have used their products. Upwards of 90% of people are very happy with their gutter guards from Amerimax and would recommend them to others. People say the gutter guards are durable and work for their intended purpose. We noticed that not all their products are in-stock and easy to get your hands on, but if they have what you need, the positive ratings from customers reassure us that this is a good option for gutter protection.
Spectra Gutter Systems boasts that they are the largest manufacturer and distributor of rainware in the United States. They were founded in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1978. The company has over 24 manufacturing and distribution centers nationwide to meet the needs of all their customers. They serve people in North America, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, and some parts of Europe.
22 gutter guard choices
The four main products sold by Spectra include gutter guards, gutter coil, touch up paint, and trim coil. There are 22 types of gutter guards in total: 2 made of steel and 20 made of aluminum. They mostly vary based on size, color, and design. This way customers have some flexibility in how they want their gutter guards to look on their house.
Lacking product specifications
We wish you were able to click on each individual product to get more specs on it. All you can do is view them in a list and see a picture, so it's hard to know if there are pros and cons to the different designs, if they work for any type of roof, how big of sheets they come in, warranty, and other details. The point of this is likely to encourage you to reach out to one of their sales representatives for more information.
Helpful platform features
There are some impressive features on Spectra's website to give customers additional details they need to make a decision about their purchase. You can use their product calculator to provide the aluminum gauge number you need, the width, and length. This tells you how many feet of gutter guard you need and how much it will weigh. They also have a color visualizer for metal roofs and gutters that lets you choose from 22 shades and see an accurate picture of what it would look like on a roof. This is less relevant for choosing gutter guards specifically, but it is useful for customers who are needing new gutters or looking to install a new roof as well and want gutter guards to match.
Contact a sales rep
Spectra provides product spec sheets that include instructions on how to install their gutter guards. This would prove extremely useful once you know the type of gutter guard you need. You can contact the company to request information and get help from customer service by filling out an online form. From there you should be able to get all your questions about their gutter guards answered and get pricing information as well.
No customer reviews
We wish Spectra had more customer reviews. They have an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, but there have been no customer reviews or complaints on their profile page - not very helpful when it comes to getting an idea of how their gutter guards perform post-installation. We imagine this is a decent product that would get the job done, but you'll have to do a little more work to figure out exactly what you need and how much you can expect to pay. Because of this they've earned an average rating from us.
eGutter specializes in residential, commercial, and industrial gutter systems. They've been in the industry since 1997, but don't have a lot of information about themselves or their company history. eGutter carries just about everything you might need that's gutter- or roof-related. They don't do installation, but rather provide all the materials for contractors or everyday people to do the work themselves.
Good range of products
A website update could make the shopping experience at eGutter a whole lot easier, but nevertheless they still have a good selection. There are 9 categories of gutter protection including:
Within each category is a long list of different shapes, sizes, and even some material variations to meet your needs. You can read a list of features that are unique to the specific type of gutter guard you're viewing and a description of the product. If you know the size you need, you can find the perfect match right away.
Get all the accessories you need
While you're looking at the different types of gutter guards from eGutter you can also view their selection of roof and gutter cleaners, tools and ladder accessories, fasteners, sealants, paint, snow guards, and downspout strainers. Chances are you'll need some of these for your installation and you can get them all in one place.
Shipping costs vary
The cost of shipping your gutter guards will depend entirely on their size and how many you're buying. For small shipments of 4' or less, you'll pay between $17 and $28 but you could pay as much as $620 for a freight commercial delivery of 20'. You can see a list of pricing you might expect depending on what you're buying on eGutter's website.
30-day returns with restocking fees
It's a good thing eGutter gives you a detailed description of their products because hopefully it will help you avoid having to make returns. They allow you to send back anything in new and unused condition within 30 days from receipt, but you'll have shipping deducted from the refund as well as a 20% restocking fee. This is definitely something you'll want to avoid if possible.
Practical and functional place to shop
You can tell eGutter is a "get it done" type of company. They aren't worried about a pretty website that makes it easy to find all their products, but rather they've thrown their inventory on there with a "take it or leave it" vibe. You'll have enough information you need to make a purchase, but we do wish there were more customer reviews of this company. From what we've seen, some people get frustrated by poor communication with customer service, but otherwise their products seem to do the job. If you find what you need here and are okay with the pricing and shipping charges, we see no reason not to shop here. However, this isn't our top choice for gutter guards.
There are quite a few different materials you can choose from depending on the color you want, the durability you need, and the size that's required. Once you have the gutter guards you need you can set them and forget them! It's usually a one-time buy that simplifies the maintenance of your home.
To make life as easy as possible for yourself, shop online for gutter guards. There are quite a few retailers that have options for you, so rather than going from store to store, you can compare pricing and features of all gutter guard types within minutes from your home. A lot of companies let customers leave reviews on their products so you know that you're getting a long-lasting, high-quality gutter guard based on the experiences that others have had.
