Why spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for electrolysis or laser hair removal when you can get the same results at home for much less money? The Sharper Image LED Home Electrolysis Kit offers just that. Cordless, portable, and effective, this hair removal system lets you target unwanted hair from your eyebrows to your ankles using the same technology you'd get from a professional.
How does it work? The device uses a rollerball wand with a galvanic current to target cells at the hair follicles' base. After consistent use, the current damages the follicle so that hair can't grow from it. Most of the customer reviews we found say that this LED Home Electrolysis Kit works very well, especially after regular use: hair eventually stops growing back, forever.
Because it takes time for this process to work, you should plan on needing some other kind of hair removal method for a while. Many users continue to shave, pluck, or wax while they wait for the under-the-surface process to work. The electrolysis itself is painless, making it a good choice for people with sensitive skin.
Electrolysis also requires the use of conductive gel; Sharper Image includes 3 oz. of gel along with 3 oz. of pre-epilation cleanser, but you may need to buy more as you continue to use the device. It operates on two AAA batteries, which are also included with your purchase. For dealing with larger areas like the legs, you'll need to use the self-adhesive gel pads that come with your purchase; we didn't find any information on replacements for those, or whether or not you can reuse them. This electrolysis device seems to be intended more for smaller areas like the face.
While Sharper Image's policy doesn't allow for returns on used/opened Personal Care products, the retailer has an excellent reputation for customer satisfaction. So, if you try the Home Electrolysis Kit and it just doesn't work for you, we recommend that you contact Sharper Image and see if they can help. Otherwise, you can return this product in unused, unopened condition within 60 days of purchase. No warranty information was provided on the Sharper Image site.
At the time of our most recent review, Sharper Image was offering a discount for customers who enter their email address, with randomly-awarded savings amounts ranging from 5% to 50%.
Sharper Image's LED Home Electrolysis Kit is a good option if you're looking for a hair removal system that leads to permanent results. Just remember that you'll have to be patient and use another hair removal method like tweezing or waxing while you wait for those results.
Whether it's those stray chin hairs that have ladies running for their tweezers, or the hairy back that no gentleman wants to show off at the beach, men and women alike struggle to find the perfect hair removal method.
Excessive hair can leave you feeling awkward and embarrassed, both in personal and professional settings. Many people have resigned themselves to time-consuming or painful processes to remove this unwanted hair. But what are your options to get rid of that hair that's just not welcome?
In general, there are three main approaches to hair removal.
Shaving. The advantages to shaving are that razors are inexpensive and easy to find, shaving usually takes less time than other means of removing hair, and no electricity is needed. Disadvantages are that hair grows back quickly (think "5 o'clock shadow"). Cuts can be painful and leave scars. Razor blades dull after several uses and have to be replaced.
Chemical Depilation. Advantages to chemical depilation include smoother skin than shaving, no risk of cuts, affordable, hair takes longer to grow back. Disadvantages include the chemicals used to dissolve the hair can cause an allergic reaction or irritation. Chemical depilatories often have an unpleasant smell and often need to be left on the skin for up to 10 minutes. Takes longer than ordinary shaving.
Epilation. This process removes the entire hair, including the part below the surface of the skin). Advantages of epilation include smooth skin that lasts for much longer than shaving or chemical depilation - and may even be permanent. It also may be painless, depending on the method used. Disadvantages are that it can be painful if plucking or threading. If using a device, electricity or batteries are needed. It can also be much more expensive and time-consuming than other methods.
Given that there are many products on the market that promise to deliver smooth, hair-free skin, how can you decide which one to try first? Here are some factors to consider as you choose the hair removal strategy that's right for you:
