Amazing selection
It's hard to know where to begin when you're starting out your search at Halloween Costumes. They have so many options, so it might be easiest to start with "men's", "women's", or "kids." They have really fun couples costumes like Shrek and Fiona, Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, an astronaut and an alien, and so many more. They also have a category for group costumes if you want to dress up with all your friends or the whole family. You can also browse popular themes of the current year and find fun yard decorations while you're at it.
Real customer photos
Something unique about Halloween Costumes is that when you're scrolling through some of the costume categories, they don't use models to highlight the costumes. Instead, they use real photos from customers who are dressed in the costumes that are for sale. We love this because it highlights that what you get here is high-quality and it's so fun to see how people do their makeup and what accessories they choose with costumes. Seeing real people's Halloween pictures in the costume makes the store feel more personable and is so much more entertaining to look at.

This might be worth doing, especially if you're shopping for more than one costume, so don't let the offer pass you by. Most of the costumes here seemed to be between $30 and $70 depending on the size, number of pieces that come with the costume, and materials. Whenever you're shopping within a category, you can always narrow down the price so that you only see the options within your budget, which is helpful.
Upfront shipping costs
We appreciate that you don't have to go all the way through the checkout process to see how much you'll be charged for shipping. Just for fun, we added a pickle costume to our cart that cost $39.99 and found that standard shipping (4-6 business days) cost $4.99. The price goes up from there if you need your order expedited, but we felt like $4.99 was totally doable and much cheaper than what we found from some other stores.
30-day return policy
If you need to make a return for any reason, you can send back your Halloween costume within 30 days for a refund, minus an 18% restocking fee. If you've ever visited a Spirit Halloween store, you likely got the heebie-jeebies from their lifelike animatronic figures at the entrance. They carry some of the spookiest home and yard decor, as well as all types of popular Halloween costumes and accessories.
Unrivaled selection
The selection of Halloween costumes from Spirit Halloween is unrivaled. There are over 1,400 costumes for women, over 1,070 for men, 493 for girls, and 548 for boys. This still doesn't include toddler, baby, plus size, couples costumes, group costumes, pet costumes, and t-shirts. You can depend on Spirit Halloween to be up-to-date with the most popular icons and movie characters that people will look to dress as during Halloween time. Their inventory is quite different year after year with the exception of some classics like witches, sexy costumes, career costumes, and so on.
Honest buyer feedback
Spirit Halloween has made it easy to sort through their huge selection by having features to filter by category, size, price, license/artist, color, and rating. Since Spirit Halloween is a popular online store, you'll be more likely to find customer reviews on their products than you might from another retailer. This is extremely helpful when gauging how high-quality a costume might (or might not) be and we're happy to report that most people rate the costumes here as 5 out of 5 stars.
Save 20% on already low prices
One deal you won't get in-store is a 20% off coupon for any item on Spirit Halloween's website if you submit your email address to sign up for their marketing list. This is a great deal, especially if you want something on the more expensive end. Luckily, Spirit Halloween is able to keep their costs low and you'll easily find a lot of costumes around the $25 - $50 range. You can always sort by price, but we never saw a costume that felt like it came at a ridiculous cost. It shouldn't break the bank even if you have to outfit the whole family here.
14-day returns by October 18
A discount code was provided at the top of Spirit Halloween's website for free shipping on orders over $35. If you buy a costume and accessories, you should easily be able to reach this mark. If you need to return or exchange your order upon arrival, you have 14 days to do so. You could make a return by mail or take your costume back to your closest Spirit Halloween store if you live near one. The only exception to the return policy is that you have to send back orders by October 18. After this, only exchanges are accepted as long as all items are unworn, in resalable condition, and have all their accessories included.
Refer to costume reviews
Spirit Halloween receives an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Like many stores that have an online site as well as brick-and-mortar stores (especially temporary ones), third-party ratings are going to be mixed. Interactions with rude employees throughout the country will cause customer frustration, but this doesn't necessarily reflect on their Halloween costume selection or the quality. We did notice that the company is good at responding to customer reviews online, so they do actively take a part in this process. Relying on customer reviews from Spirit Halloween's website will be your best bet though.

Each season they stock up on the most sought-after costumes and accessories for the whole family. Whether you want something hilarious, sexy, or downright scary, Halloween Express has a variety for you. Besides costumes, they have a huge selection of accessories, Halloween decor, and props.
Truly the largest selection
To get started, you can shop for costumes by age, type (couples, group, pet, adaptive, costume kits), characters, TV and movies, or by holiday. Besides Halloween, there is also a selection of costumes for Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Oktoberfest, Thanksgiving, and Mardi Gras. For reference, there are 978 in-stock women's costumes, 1,145 men's costumes, 1,037 boys costumes, and 859 girls costumes. They also have pet costumes, baby costumes, teen costumes, and more. So when Halloween Express says they have the largest inventory available online, they aren't exaggerating. They carry all the costumes for popular shows like Stranger Things, Harry Potter, Beetlejuice, Inside Out, Ghostbusters, and so many others.
Select your size first
You can narrow down all the costumes you find by character, theme, brand, age group, gender, size, material, color, season, and price. It's wise to select the size you want as one of the filters because not all costumes come in all sizes. For example, women's sizing ranges from 2-18, but many of the costumes only have around 4 sizes or come in small, medium, large, or extra-large to encompass more generic sizing, so that will really slim down your options. When you click on a costume, you'll see what the sizing choices are (with a size chart for reference), the price, and product details, like what comes included and how to care for it.
Sort by price
It's beneficial that customers can sort costumes by price here, to make sure they don't go over their budget. You could spend up to a few hundred dollars on a costume at Halloween Express, but that's not the average at all. Most costumes are in the $50 - $75 range with plenty of choices for less than that too. You might spend a tad bit more here than you would some other places, but the costumes seem more complex and high-quality. Plus, as long as you spend over $35 at Halloween Express (which wouldn't be too hard) you won't have to pay a dime for shipping.
30 days for returns
If you need to make a return, be sure to contact Halloween Express within 30 days from when your order was placed. You'll need to get a return authorization from customer service and then ship back the items with the original labels affixed. Halloween Express says that refunds will exclude shipping and handling fees, but they don't explicitly state what those are. Most companies charge a restocking fee, so we assume there will be something like this here, but you'll need to ask for clarification when you request your return authorization.
A bit of room for improvement
We wish that Halloween Express had a place for customers to leave reviews on their products, but unfortunately they don't. Sometimes it makes us wonder if a company is worried about honest feedback or if they simply don't think about building it into their site. Still, Halloween Express has an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and decent reviews from customers on third-party review sites. Many people say orders come right on time, products are as expected, and that Halloween Express has fantastic customer service. However, woven through these are also some complaints about incorrect products being sent out or costumes that seemed damaged upon arrival. It seems like this company would have nothing but great ratings if they would double down on their efforts to fine-tune their shipping processes, so this is an area where we'd like to see improvement.

Although you'll find more costumes when shopping at our highest rated sites, Party Expert has popular costumes that are on-trend and they show you exactly how many of them they have in-stock, which is nice.
Low prices
The prices for Halloween costumes from Party Expert seem to be less expensive than some other places. Many individual costumes are close to $20 and some even less. We noticed that you can get couples costumes like chips and salsa, tequila and lime, or matching cows for $40 or less. You can easily get most types of costumes for under $50 here with a few exceptions.
Fast shipping
When you view a Halloween costume, you'll see a date range when you should expect it to arrive in your zip code with standard or express shipping. For us, our order was going to arrive in 9 days with standard shipping or in the next 2 days with express. At the time of this review, the company was offering free standard shipping if you spent over $70 on their site.
10-day return policy
If you place an order between August 1 and October 31, returns and exchanges are only allowed before October 20. Party Expert normally accepts returns within 30 days of purchase with the original receipt if they are in new, unused, unworn condition, but for Halloween items you will only get a 10-day return window. A 10% restocking fee will be deducted from all returns, but there is no fee if you opt for an exchange instead. You'll also be responsible for the price of return shipping.
Satisfactory reviews
Party Expert has a Better Business Bureau profile, but it was not loading the last time we looked into it. Their page might have been undergoing an update, so be sure to check back and see what you find once it is up and running again. From customers directly, we read that people are thrilled with how quickly Party Expert sends out orders. Everything comes well packaged, quality is as expected, and customer service is helpful. Overall, buyers have really good things to say about Party Expert.
We like what we see

Party City's site is well-organized, so you can choose the size you're looking for, customer rating, theme, and category to help you find exactly what you have in mind.
Smaller, but relevant selection
Party City's selection isn't quite as extensive as what we found through our highest-rated Halloween costume sites, but it is relevant and includes popular characters and movie themes. Where we found some places with over 1,000 costumes for women, Party City has closer to 400. There are 250 costumes for men, 257 for girls, 253 for boys, and 42 for babies.
Convenient shipping options
We selected a Wednesday Addams costume to see what the description was like. The cost was $39.99 and we could choose between a girl's small, medium, or large size. If you live near a Party City store, you might be able to order your chosen costume online and pick it up in as little as 2 hours if they happen to have it in stock. Otherwise we had a free delivery option if we spent over $59 for same-day delivery (if we lived close enough) or within a week's time. Very few retailers have all these options for Halloween costumes, so you might find that delivery from Party City is more convenient and reliable than most other places.
Detailed product listings
You can view quite a few product photos on each Halloween costume listing, a detailed product description with a list of each item that will come with your package, and all its features. They include care instructions for your costume and unfiltered product reviews if they are available.
30-day returns in-store or by mail
If you need to return your costume to Party City, the easiest thing might be to drop it off at their store if you live close by. This helps you avoid return shipping fees. Mixed and muddled reviews
We were pretty surprised to find such low reviews from third-party sites about Party City. There is a mix of reports from people who had a bad in-store experience with an employee or trying to find a product, and from those who had delivery issues online. Some feedback relates to things like graduation invitations, which has nothing to do with Halloween costumes. With a store like Party City that offers so many different services and types of products year-round, it's hard to find reviews that are entirely revolving around their Halloween sector. Because of this, our best advice is to rely on individual product reviews when they have them on their site.
Still a good option
Party City has resulted in many successful purchases for us over the years. They're such a massive retailer that they are bound to have issues with their processes or rude store employees, but overall they have a good selection of party supplies and a fun selection of Halloween costumes. Halloween costumes are definitely not their bread and butter, so you'll get a bigger selection elsewhere, but this is still a good option if you want another retailer to compare with.

We noticed that there are quite a lot of shoes and individual pieces to costumes sold here, so you could easily buy some pieces and do a little DIY to create the perfect look.

The product descriptions at Costumes are very similar to what we've seen from other retailers. You'll get a few photos of the costume on a model from different angles, a description of the costume, size options, material, and care instructions. Along with the size chart, you'll get just enough information to know if the costume is going to fit the bill for what you're going for.
15-day returns and restocking fees
The return policy at Costumes states that you have 15 days to return your items from the original order date. You can use their pre-paid return shipping label for $7.99 or mail back your items yourself. You'll also be charged a 12% restocking fee for your return, so you won't be able to get a full refund.
Slow delivery
Customers can leave unfiltered reviews on Halloween costumes here, but there aren't very many. Pay attention to these if you do happen to see them though. Since there is no Better Business Bureau rating, we referred to third-party reviews for this company to see what people generally think after shopping at Costumes. Quite a few people complained about inventory and shipping issues, recent system upgrade hiccups that have really delayed processes, and difficulty reaching customer service since there is no phone number provided, just an email address. The advice most people give is to order way in advance from this site, since their costumes are legit and good quality, but it does take a really long time to receive your order sometimes. You don't want to risk not having your costume for Halloween or even parties beforehand, so if you're coming here in October to look for a costume, your safest bet will be to try somewhere else.

Website needs attention
Right away we noticed that Costume Kingdom doesn't have a fully updated website and some of their information is incorrect. For example, they have a big section entitled "2020 Halloween Costumes" with text and links that used to be used to boost online rankings, but now just take up unnecessary space (since that's several years ago). In one place they say they have over 10 years of experience, but in another place they said they started in 1997, which means they have over 25 years of experience. These aren't major issues, but it shows us that they aren't putting a lot of effort into their site and it's not as closely managed as some other companies' are.
Browse by category
When you reach Costume Kingdom's site, you'll have a variety of categories to choose from to get you started. At its most basic, you could start by selecting between women's, men's, girls', and boys' costumes. Some of the featured "hot themes" that you could browse included Toy Story, Mary Poppins, Joker, and Disney Princesses. In our minds, these aren't categories that have trended lately, but nonetheless, they're highlighted here. At the bottom of their page is a list of costume themes in alphabetical order like 80's costumes, adult swim costumes, Barbie costumes, Beetlejuice costumes, Carnival costumes, and so on. Unfortunately, some of the categories come up completely empty, so don't assume there is much here just because there is a listing for it.
Many out-of-stock items
Despite some categories being devoid of actual costumes, there is still a decent selection here. We browsed "couples costumes" just for fun and found some entertaining ones for around $40. There were 5 pages of costumes in this category, but about half were listed as out-of-stock. Sizes ranged from XS to XL with a young adult size and big and tall size listed too. Kids' costumes range from infant/newborn sizing to young adult, so the best way to shop here is to first choose the size you need and then see what's available. For example, there were 279 results for girls' costumes, but some of them only came in a couple of sizes and quite a few were out-of-stock.
Basic product descriptions
Each product listing is pretty straightforward. You'll see an image of the costume, view the available sizes, read a short description, and you can browse the FAQ if there is one. Product details outline what is included with your order, what material it's made out of, and care instructions. It's all very basic information, but it should cover what you'd need to know for a short-time-use Halloween costume.
Competitive pricing
We did feel like pricing at Costume Kingdom was really competitive. There were costumes for close to $20 that we'd seen for nearly $40 elsewhere. However, since their pricing is pretty low, it's in your best interest to order more than one thing here since shipping is free if you spend over $50. If not, the cost is $7.50 for the first pound and $2 for each additional pound after that. Standard shipping orders go out within 24 hours.
14-day returns with stipulations
You'll have 14 days from the time you receive your order to return it for a refund, unless you purchase anything between October 15 and November 15. Items become non-returnable during this timeframe. Every item before then must be returned undamaged, with all its pieces, and neatly packaged in order to qualify for a return. You'll need to pay shipping costs to return the merchandise, and if you received free shipping initially, you'll receive a refund of what you paid, minus what it cost Costume Kingdom to ship your order.
Good ratings, poor customer service
At the time of this review, Costume Kingdom did not have a rating from the Better Business Bureau, but in the past they carried an "A+". Their customer reviews are quite high with people reporting that their shipping is really fast and their costumes come as expected quality- and appearance-wise. Where they fall short is with their customer service (which they ironically tout as one of their best assets) and when we found complaints for the company, they were almost always about negative interactions. So hopefully if you buy a costume here, it will be straightforward and you won't have to deal with customer service for any reason.
Could use some work
If Costume Kingdom were to update their site, clean it up a bit, and organize their in-stock and out-of-stock items better, it would really improve the overall shopping experience. They do have a good selection and their pricing is appealing, so we wouldn't shy away from shopping here entirely, but as of right now, it isn't our top choice (especially with customer service complaints) and they've earned a less-than-ideal rating.

Costume Super Center doesn't have an "About Us" section or provide background about how long they've been in business, so all we can say upfront is that they provide the shopping experience you'd expect when you set out looking for a Halloween costume. For pets, kids, and adults, you can find a variety of costume themes and sizes at pretty good deals. They also sell a good range of accessories to perfect the details of your costume from head to toe.

On top of getting you and your family's Halloween costumes here, you could get everything to deck out your yard and home interior for the spooky holiday. This includes yard props, banners, candy bowls, inflatable figures, signs, and so much more.
Impressive selection
If you'd rather just search for the costume you're looking for, that's an option at Costume Super Center too. You'll want to use additional filter features to narrow down your choices since we found 1,079 in-stock women's costumes (1,274 if you include what was out-of-stock), 999 men's costumes (1,253 with out-of-stock), 863 girls costumes (977 with out-of-stock), and 738 boys costumes (864 with out-of-stock). This doesn't even include teen costumes, costumes for pets, and infant/toddler costumes. Needless to say, the selection here is pretty good so it helps that you can specify if you want sale products, the collection you're interested in, character, and size.
Little to no product reviews
When you select a costume, you'll see what sizes it comes in. Not all costumes have the full range of sizes for the category available, so searching by size is a good idea. Each costume has a few photos included, a description of the costume, a size chart for reference, what material it is made of, and care instructions. There is a place for customers to come back and leave reviews on the products, but we found that most costumes had no reviews at all.
Free shipping over $75
You should expect to pay between $25 and $60 for a costume from Costume Super Center. We found quite a few "super saver" deals, which meant that the costume was on sale, but otherwise you'll pay full price. Costs depend on how detailed the costume is and the materials used. If you spend at least $75, you'll get free shipping on your order; otherwise rates start at $8.99 and depend on the size and weight of the products. Costume Super Center says their standard shipping averages 5 days, but could be anywhere from 2-10.

You'll have 15 days from your order date to return your costume or Halloween decor to Costume Super Center. Keep in mind you'll still need to pay for return shipping and the company charges a 12% restocking fee as well. Returns are typically processed in 2 weeks, but could take as long as 3 weeks during the Halloween season (September - November).
Some major issues
Costume Super Center does not have a rating from the Better Business Bureau. They have thousands of third-party reviews, but they're very average. Some people had no issues with their order at all and are totally pleased with the company. However, the majority of what we read from recent reviews reported issues like costumes arriving late, poor shipment packaging, costumes that appear used and stained, and other issues. These can be major problems, so we are disappointed that so many people have bad reports. If you happen to find a costume in your size that has reviews from the website, then that's a score. Pay attention to how others said the costume fit and what the material/quality is like and that could be a reliable way to decide whether or not to buy anything here.
Hesitant due to ratings
We wish we had a little more background on this company like how long they've been in business and where they operate out of for starters. We like the selection here and pricing seems similar to what we've seen through competitors. However, the poor customer reviews are what have really given us pause about deciding to shop at Costume Super Center, and we recommend that you look elsewhere too.
Subpar
Miccostumes describes themselves as the ultimate source of affordable, well-sewn apparel, cosplay costumes, lingerie, swimsuits, onesie pajamas, full bodysuits, Medieval costumes, Gothic costumes, wigs, shoes, and accessories. Did they miss anything? There is quite the unique spread of products here, so if you're bored of the same old witches and zombies costume getups, Miccostumes offers a fresh selection of ideas for you.
No organization
When we selected the "Halloween" tab to look at the costumes available, we were shown 53 pages of products. We appreciate a big selection, but this was a jumble of wigs, dresses, swimsuits, and other accessories all blended together. There were no filters that allowed us to look for something more specific or weed out products we didn't want to see. It quickly became obvious that this site sells costumes primarily for women, but we found a few "couple cosplay" costumes from shows like Dragon Ball Z, Fallout, The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, and so on, and those would incorporate a male's costume you can buy.
Tons of product photos
Be prepared to spend quite a bit of time browsing product-by-product through all the inventory from Miccostumes. When you find something you like, you can select your size (usually women's S - XL unless you shop the plus size section), see a variety of photos (that you have to scroll endlessly to look through), read what materials they are made of, see the included items, and even read unfiltered customer reviews if they have any.
Return within 5 days
You can't sort by price here at all, but most costumes are between $35 and $90, with quite a few being more expensive than that. Much of what you find at Miccostumes has a lot of layers and detail, which would explain why you might pay a little more. Keep in mind that once you receive your order, you only have 5 days to submit for a refund and send your unused products back. Luckily there are no processing fees when you do this, but you will be responsible to pay the cost of return shipping.
Halloween shipping guarantee
When we were exploring Miccostumes, they had a Halloween shipping guarantee that said they could ensure that you would receive your package by Halloween. We can only assume that at some point this guarantee goes away (think a few days before October 31st), but this should otherwise be a good assurance. Shipping is about $10.99 for ground shipping, but you can pay more if you want your order expedited.
Unreliable shipping and delivery
Even though Miccostumes has assurances that their packages will arrive by certain dates, many of the reviews for this company have complaints from customers who experienced the complete opposite. People say that they eventually receive their orders, but you should expect it to take weeks or even months for shipping. Others say that they place an order and after some random amount of time, they hear that the costume is out-of-stock. So you might find a good Halloween costume here for an affordable price, but know ahead of time that it could take quite a while to get to you, if at all.
Gone downhill
Miccostumes has an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Most of their reviews are good if you're looking just at product ratings on their site. However, third-party reviewers are really unhappy with Miccostumes because they feel like they pay money for something and then get ghosted (see what we did there?). Packages arrive really slow or never at all and they're often told to try and track it down via the shipping company instead of taking responsibility. From what we read, this company used to be more reliable and has gone downhill over the last year or so.
Not worth it
We like that Miccostumes offers a different type of Halloween costume than we are used to, but it may not be worth it. Their site is not organized, so it takes a while to find what you want. On top of this, we aren't confident that your order will arrive on time or at all, so that's a big gamble. You'll want to look at more reliable retailers when shopping for your next amazing Halloween costume.
Find Costume is based out of Mount Vernon, New York. They have adult costumes, kids' costumes, plus size costumes, pet costumes, accessories, and props. Their main goal is to make shopping quick, affordable, and easy for customers. But are they as reliable as they aim to be? You can be the judge of that based on what we've discovered about the company.
Annoying shopping experience
Find Costume (whose company title sounds grammatically incorrect to us, but that's beside the point), says you'll be the life of the party with their selection of costumes. The main categories you can browse include men's costumes, women's costumes, girls' costumes, boys' costumes, funny costumes, food & drink costumes, couples costumes, and group costumes. Whether you want to dress up as a slice of pizza or a giant baby, the themes here are far and wide. However, you can't filter through categories easily, and often after going down a rabbit hole trying to narrow down our options in a certain category, we found that no costumes were even available. You have to keep choosing specific themes here in order to see a selection rather than generic options like the size you're looking for, price, customer ratings, or anything like that.
Looking for more information
You'll definitely want to come to Find Costume with a solid idea of what Halloween costume you're looking for beforehand. Using their search feature is the easiest way to go. Once you finally land on a costume you like, you'll usually only see one picture of the costume, the sizes that are available, a product description, and sizing. They omit information about the materials and how to care for your costume like most companies provide.
Reasonable prices, no free shipping
Every costume from Find Costume appears to be "on sale", but in turn that really just means that none of them are. Most costumes are between $20 and $50, so nothing here is extraordinarily cheap or expensive. The costs here are really reasonable and competitive. What's annoying is that you have to add a costume to your cart and go through the initial checkout process to see how much shipping will be. When we added a pharaoh costume for $39.95 to our cart, the cost for ground shipping was $9.95. Nowhere does the company mention that if you place an order of a certain amount you'll qualify for free shipping.
30-day returns, 20% restocking fees
If you're unsatisfied with the Halloween costume you order from Find Costume, you have 30 days to call their company for a return merchandise authorization number and return instructions. All approved, non-defective returns are subject to a 20% restocking fee and return shipping is the responsibility of the customer as well. Between these two things, you'll likely lose a big portion of your refund when you send a costume back, unfortunately.
A scam?
There were a frightening amount of reports from customers that tied the word "scam" to this company's name. Many people say they purchase a costume and then it never ships. They don't hear from customer service and can't contact them for answers either. Others say that when they do receive their order, costumes are cheaply made and defective. Things aren't as good as they appear on the website and people end up very frustrated with the result of shopping here. There is no Better Business Bureau rating for Find Costume, but if there were, we assume it would not be a high one.
Too many issues
So many listed Halloween costumes were out-of-stock, we felt like we hit a lot of walls when we were trying to shop here. Between the weird browsing experience, lack of product details, 20% restocking fee on products, and poor reviews, we aren't excited about Find Costume whatsoever. They've earned last place on our list of Halloween costume retailers.
