Trifecta Nutrition, known for its healthy meal deliveries, has hit a rough patch. When it started in 2015, it quickly became popular for its partnerships and a menu that focused on weight loss and fitness. But recently, it's run into problems. Former employees have accused the company of some serious wrongdoing, including fraud, harassment, and not being honest about where they get their food. These claims have hurt Trifecta's good name, making customers and partners question what's really going on behind the scenes.
You have to eat paleo to get high protein
Trifecta doesn't have a specific high-protein meal plan. Your options include the Clean Meal Plan (a "balanced whole-foods diet approach made with high-quality proteins, whole grains, and delicious organic vegetables”), Keto, and Plant-Based. The Paleo & Whole30 Approved Meal Plan is going to be your best bet for highest protein content, but note that it excludes grains, dairy, and legumes. Some examples of the meals included in this plan are Korean Inspired Chicken, Pollo Guisado, and Pibil Style Shrimp. Individual macro and calorie information wasn't given - Trifecta's first strike.
Too pricey
Trifecta's meal selection process reveals options ranging from 5 to 14 entrees weekly, with a bonus choice of adding 7 breakfasts. However, prepare for some sticker shock. For instance, opting for a weekly set of 7 entrees sets you back $110.99, which translates to $15.85 per meal. This price point places Trifecta among the costliest contenders in the high-protein meal delivery market, especially noticeable in the absence of any apparent discounts.
Questionable shelf life
Trifecta markets its meals as a lifesaver for the time-strapped individual. Their offerings are fully cooked, vacuum-sealed, and purported to remain fresh for up to a week in the fridge or even months in the freezer. They also boast a variety of heating options - microwave, oven, stovetop, or air fryer. Yet, the reality shared by customers is less than idyllic. We're talking about receiving meals that resemble something you'd find on a hospital tray, arriving in a state of leakage and browning. Far from the expected premium quality, these meals have been labeled as repulsive and likened to (and used as) dog food. Worse still, they reportedly spoil within three days, leaving an enduring, unpleasant odor.
Only 25 recipes to choose from
Trifecta's Paleo & Whole30 offerings, limited to about 25 recipes weekly, may leave high-protein dieters wanting more. The frequent appearance of turkey and tofu chicken dishes contributes to a sense of culinary deja vu. Although the nutritional content looks good on paper - with an average of 440 calories, 30 grams of protein, 35 grams of carbohydrates, and 20 grams of fat - the taste is awful, which makes these numbers somewhat unimportant, to put it mildly.
Bland at best, disgusting at worst
Trifecta's descriptions of low-calorie, nutrient-rich meals featuring top-notch proteins and organic ingredients sets high expectations for a delightful gastronomic experience. However, the actual taste of the food falls dramatically short. Customers frequently describe the meals as bland and unappetizing, using terms like "tasteless," "watery," and "plastic-like" to express their dissatisfaction. One customer even stated that if two different Trifecta meals were placed before her, she wouldn't be able to tell them apart by taste alone. That's quite a serious accusation.
Customers have canceled credit cards to escape billing
Despite Trifecta Nutrition's advertised straightforward cancellation process, requiring just a week's notice, customers often find themselves in a bewildering and frustrating situation. Many share experiences of a cancellation process that feels labyrinthine, with their attempts to discontinue the service met with ignored requests and continued billing. Customer service interactions are frequently described as unhelpful and ineffective, with the higher management almost mythical in its absence. This disconnection between the company's stated policy and the actual customer experience has led to feelings of deception and entrapment among users, with some resorting to drastic actions like canceling their credit cards to escape the cycle of unrequested charges. It makes us feel a little crazy to think that a meal delivery service's shortcomings could be so terrible that your biggest worry is not the (very real) risk of food poisoning, but rather a damaged credit score.
Your box might never show up
Trifecta sets expectations high with the promise of punctual, well-tracked deliveries, typically arriving on Fridays with the freshness assured by ice packs. Yet, many customers recount a reality marred by unpredictability and frustration. Reports of unexpected cancellations and a notable absence of help for missing deliveries are common. The irony is, given the reported quality of the meals, your box not showing up might actually be a stroke of good luck.
Terrible scoring with third-party review platforms
Trifecta's standing in the eyes of its customers and review platforms is alarmingly poor. With a staggering 85% of Trustpilot reviews rating it at one star, resulting in an overall score of 1.9, and an "F” grade from the Better Business Bureau, they've clearly hit rock bottom. Adding to their woes is the infamous lawsuit relating to the 2017 CrossFit Games, where allegations of passing off fast-food as high-quality organic fare highlight a concerning trend of dishonesty. This kind of deceit seems to be present throughout all aspects of their food delivery service, leaving customers with a bad taste in their mouths in every sense.
Earns our lowest rating
In light of the myriad issues - from subpar food quality and persistent post-cancellation charges to ethically questionable practices - using Trifecta would be an exercise in futility and frustration. We'd strongly advise you steer clear - although we wonder how much longer they'll even be around, given the unsustainability of their business practices. Trifecta's offerings, both in terms of product and service, fall short on so many fronts that they are better off left unexplored - and above all, uneaten. No one would blame you for not cleaning your plate here.
