Sundance Spas Review 2 Star Rating

Sundance Spas

2 Star Rating
  • Prices available by quote
  • 23 tubs in stock
  • 2-6+ person capacities
  • Plug and play tubs included
  • 5-10 year shell warranty
  • "A+” rating from the BBB

Since its inception in 1979, Sundance has been a prominent player in the hot tub market, renowned for its quality offerings. With five distinct series, Sundance Spas would seem to support multiple budgets, but we aren't sure as prices aren't listed on the website. While the website offers downloadable brochures, you have to provide personal information to get them, leading to unwanted emails. Sundance Spas doesn't stack up as well as its competitors.

Equipment Overview:

  • Price range: Prices available by quote
  • Different models: 23
  • Capacity: 2-6+ adults
  • Customizable: Interior and exterior colors and packages
  • Energy efficient: Yes
  • Return policy: No
  • Warranty: 5-10 years shell, 1-7 surface, 1-5 year heater
  • Shipping: No listed shipping costs

Basic models: The Sundance Splash Series

The base model for Sundance Spas can be found as part of the Sundance Splash Series. The Berkeley model offers a blend of full-body lounging and contoured seats. You can opt for the easy-to-install Plug n' Play feature available for all models, or upgrade to 240V for enhanced performance. The tub comes with adjustable stainless steel jets, an LED-lit adjustable water fountain, a footwell with LED lighting, and comfort pillows, along with exterior LED corner lights. The Berkeley is built with Syncrylic material for energy efficiency, and the tub includes a simplified digital control system, energy-efficient full foam insulation, and durable unibody construction. You can choose between 2 color options, and you can choose to upgrade to the Suite Package, which includes matching steps with storage, a handrail, and a cover lifter, available at the time of unit purchase only. You can't see any prices on the site without signing up for a mailing list and waiting for a quote. And when we put in our local zip code for a dealer, we were told there weren't any available in our area.

Top-tier models: 980 Series

The 980 series is the most expensive hot tub series at Sundance Spas, and the best one of those is the Kingston. Featuring cabinetry designs that appear to be wood and an array of massage options, these tubs focus on luxury living. You'll get a low flat top rail and a stylish lounge deck with illuminated SunCooler cold storage areas, providing extra seating and convenience. Inside the Kingston, you can unwind and alleviate stress in seats equipped with popular combinations of Patented Fluidix Jets (75 of them). The wide seats have integrated LED lighting, Silent Air injector jets, and SunScents Aromatherapy. For a fee, you can upgrade to include an entertainment system. You can choose between 5 interior colors and 2 exterior ones. Like the cheaper models, there are no prices on the Sundance Spas website, meaning you'll have to contact the company for a quote.

Setup depends on the tub you buy

Like many other companies in our review, Sundance Spas doesn't offer any details on shipping. You'll get those details once you submit your information for a quote. Like other manufacturers, you will also want to plan for your Sundance Space delivery appropriately. Make sure you have enough space and a flat surface that will hold your hot tub. Some of the tubs are plug-and-play, so you don't need to worry about anything else when they arrive. Others may require extra help from a contractor or electrician depending on the voltage or space that you want to put the tub in.

No returns is standard

During our research, we never found a mention of a return policy at Sundance Spas. You can expect to rely on your warranty to help resolve any concerns you might have about your hot tub. This is a pretty standard policy in the industry, so it doesn't come as a surprise.

Customers are frustrated with broken parts

Reviews of Sundance Spas are few and far between, and the feedback itself is mixed. The Better Business Bureau offers an "A+” rating for Sundance Spas, but only a 1.46-star average out of 5 from BBB reviewers. On other third-party review sites like Consumer Affairs, the company has a 2.6-star average with only 49 total reviews. Many of the most recent reviews are all 1 star. Customers complain about multiple parts failing on their hot tubs and frustration at being charged for each repair visit. Some customers have replaced parts more than once at significant out-of-pocket costs. Reviews also note that getting a hold of Sundance Spas' customer service is extremely difficult with one customer calling it a "stone wall of silence.”

Too many red flags

While Sundance Spas' proprietary features might look fun at first glance, customers are having tons of problems with this manufacturer. With poor reviews about malfunctioning parts and costly repairs as well as the lack of transparency in pricing, Sundance Spas gets knocked down on our list significantly. If you're looking for a truly premium hot tub experience, you may want to look at our higher-rated options instead.

Where Can You Find the Best Hot Tubs?

Hot tubs are synonymous with relaxation and luxury, offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Imagine soaking in warm, bubbling water under the stars, feeling your worries melt away as you sip a refreshing drink and enjoy some peace and the company of friends or loved ones. Whether you're unwinding after a long day at work, hosting a backyard party, or simply indulging in some much-needed self-care, a hot tub can turn any ordinary evening into a private spa experience.

When most people think of hot tubs, they think of expensive resort clubs or luxury home design. And while that might have been true in the past, times have changed. Gone are the days when hot tubs were limited to expensive day spas. With advances in technology and manufacturing, hot tubs have become more affordable and accessible than ever before.

Hot Tub FAQ

When people think of hot tubs, they generally think of relaxing in them for pleasure. Although this is their main purpose, they are also great for hydrotherapy, pain relief, muscle relaxation, calorie burning, and more. There are a surprising amount of health benefits that come from lounging in a warm body of water.
When deciding what size of hot tub to buy, measure the area where you plan to put the hot tub. Leave a few extra feet on at least one side for getting in and out and doing maintenance. Other factors to consider are how many people you want to be able to fit in the hot tub together. You'll usually find ones that fit anywhere from 2-7 people, which will be a big factor in determining the overall cost.
Hot tubs will range from $3,000 to over $16,000 based on the performance, size, accessories, and design. For people getting a hot tub for their first time, they'll likely be happy with something in the $3,000 to $7,000 range that will meet all their needs. Some people choose to finance their hot tubs and make monthly payments on them since they are a considerably big purchase to make. That way they don't have to pay for it all upfront.
Luckily, hot tubs aren't very high maintenance. If you stick to the 3 C's of circulation, cleaning, and chemistry, you're set! It helps to set a schedule to check the hot tub filter to make sure nothing is getting in the way of water circulating freely. Also schedule times to clean out debris, scum, or stray critters that can dirty your hot tub. Last but not least, make sure you maintain a healthy pH and alkaline level in your hot tub by checking your chemicals and adjusting them as needed. Carefully read the instruction manual that comes with your particular model to be aware of all the parts that may need replacing after a certain period of time.
You'll probably find yourself making more choices than you first thought once you start your hot tub shopping journey. For starters, do you want a square hot tub? A circular hot tub? Or a hexagon-shaped hot tub? Not only are there multiple options for the shape, but also the exterior color and material, interior materials, color, light features, seating arrangements, where you want the jets, and much more. You'll be able to choose a hot tub to match the aesthetic of your home and patio.
Hot tubs and saunas can serve similar purposes for people, but in completely different ways. A sauna is a room where infrared heat or steam is emitted to produce a feeling of relaxation, increase blood flow, loosen muscles, and sweat for weight loss. Hot tubs allow people to be immersed completely in warm or hot water to loosen joints, relax muscles, improve mood, and increase blood flow. Many people opt for hot tubs over saunas because they are more versatile and tend to work easier in the existing spaces people have outside their home.
Hot tubs are usually in the backyard on a flat surface like a cement pad, deck, under a gazebo, or on the patio. Consider how close to the house you want your hot tub for getting in and out during cold weather, having to go to the bathroom, or drying off and changing. Do you want it in a secluded area where you can't be seen by neighbors? Consider the aesthetic appeal of a hot tub and where it might look pretty and be enhanced by landscaping and lights.
If you're worried about having a hot tub dropped on your doorstep with no way to move it, fear no more! Most hot tub deliveries come with a crew that will place your hot tub in the exact location you want it and get it set up for you. Since hot tubs are big and heavy, you're not expected to hoist it around on your own. This is a good time to take advantage of the crew's expertise and learn your way around your new hot tub and all the neat features it comes with!

The allure of hot tubs goes far beyond their relaxation benefits. Choosing to enjoy some time in a hot tub can offer you a multitude of health benefits as well. Since hot tubs are a hot commodity (pun intended), there are plenty of sites and manufacturers to choose from. Shopping for a hot tub is an exciting adventure, but with so many options available, it can also be overwhelming. Whether you're browsing online or visiting a showroom in person, there are several factors to consider so that you can find the perfect hot tub for your needs:

  • Size. Consider how many people you plan to host in your hot tub and choose a model with the appropriate seating capacity. From intimate two-person tubs to large family-sized options, there's a size and configuration to suit every household and social gathering.
  • Features. Determine which features are most important to you, whether that's powerful massage jets, customizable lighting options, integrated sound systems, or energy-efficient design. Make a list of must-have features and prioritize them based on your preferences and budget.
  • Warranties. Invest in a high-quality hot tub from a reputable manufacturer for years of reliable performance and enjoyment. Look for models with durable construction, premium materials, and longer warranties to protect your investment and provide peace of mind.
  • Price. When you're adding a major feature to your home, price is always going to be a factor. Make sure that you balance things like features and quality with the cost to decide if the overall value is worth it. You'll find prices in the low thousands or tens of thousands, so there's a lot of wiggle room depending on your budget and ideal features.
  • Reputation. Finally, make sure you know the reputation of particular manufacturers by checking out their scores with sites like the Better Business Bureau or third-party review sites. Knowing how other hot tub fans feel about a particular brand or product can help you make a more informed decision.
