NewSmile is one of the newer brands of invisible braces, working hard to make a name for themselves in this competitive market. They provide invisible braces for customers at 75% less cost than traditional braces. Their treatment systems include retainers and whitening products alongside a custom plan to get your teeth where you want them, all from the comfort of your home.
At-home impression kit
When you click the "Get Started” button on NewSmile's homepage, you'll be directed to their impression kit for $29. It includes 4 dental impression trays, a mouth spreader, prepaid return shipping, dental impression putty, a detailed how-to-guide and a one-on-one impression video call. You'll use this call to work with a specialist and ensure that you create perfect molds to send back to the company. Once your impressions have been received, NewSmile will send you a preview of what your smile will look like post-treatment with a chance for you to approve it before moving forward. If NewSmile receives your impressions and decides you aren't a good fit for the company, they'll refund you for your impression kit.
Pay upfront or monthly
Whether you choose to go with the daytime or nighttime aligners, you'll be able to pay upfront or break up your payments into monthly installments. For daytime wear or the "fast track” plan, the cost is $1,495. You can break this up into payments of $94/month over 15 months if you put $295 down. The night aligners are slightly more at $1,595 upfront or broken into payments of $101/month for 15 months with $295 down. We are disappointed to see that they don't mention being able to pay with FSA or HSA accounts anywhere on their site, so you may be paying fully out of pocket for this treatment option.
See results in as little as 3 months
If you choose to wear your aligners during the day and through the night, you will see major results within just 3-4 months with NewSmile. The night aligners need to be worn for 10 continuous hours a day and you'll finish in 8-10 months. The route you go will depend on lifestyle factors like what you do day-to-day and how long you're willing to wear the trays.
Satisfaction guarantee
If you complete your treatment with NewSmile and are unhappy with the end results, their satisfaction guarantee says that the company will work with you to determine the issue and work with you to achieve the results of your original treatment preview. Whether this means providing additional trays either at a discount or at no cost or refunding you for the treatment, it isn't entirely clear.
Pattern of complaints
Despite all the good aspects of NewSmile, they receive a "D” rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). There has been a series of complaints since 2023 regarding customer service issues and not being contacted for long periods of time, billing and collections issues, difficulty receiving refunds, service, and product issues. This makes us nervous to recommend or use NewSmile's system even though they have mostly positive ratings from customers outside of this. The BBB said they received a response from the company about these concerns with them, promising that they'll take more accountability going forward and work to address their issues. We hope this is the case and that in the future they'll have less hiccups with their processes, and that customers won't need to work through the BBB for their complaints as much.
Unfiltered customer reviews
Something we found on NewSmile's website that we didn't anywhere else was unfiltered customer reviews. There aren't a ton and most of them are 5 stars, but we also found some lower ones where people reported difficulty making impressions, needing more clarification on the refund policy, and other issues that you'll find with any invisible braces company. We are impressed that NewSmile's policy is to let people leave honest feedback about their experience, and we feel like this shows confidence in their product.
Keeping an eye on NewSmile
Overall, NewSmile is similar to their competitors, so we aren't worried that their treatment system wouldn't work. Before giving them a higher rating, we want to see how NewSmile fixes some of their issues that people have reported through the BBB and how good their customer service is. NewSmile has a lot of potential, so although they've not earned one of our best ratings, we look forward to seeing how they perform in the future.
Who doesn't love the idea of perfectly straight teeth? Everyone knows that a beautiful smile can make you feel better about yourself. Fewer people realize that it can also help in your relationships, both personal and at work. And while traditional braces are often viewed as unattractive and cumbersome, invisible braces have soared in popularity.
One of the main reasons behind the popularity of invisible braces is their discreet appearance. Unlike traditional metal braces, which are conspicuous and often draw unwanted attention, invisible braces offer a subtle and nearly invisible alternative. Made from clear aligner trays or tooth-colored materials, they blend seamlessly with the natural teeth, allowing wearers to undergo orthodontic treatment without feeling self-conscious about their smile.
Many people also find invisible braces more comfortable and convenient that traditional metal braces. This is because invisible braces are crafted from smooth, comfortable materials that minimize irritation to the gums and soft tissues. Additionally, the removable nature of some invisible braces, such as clear aligners, allows patients to enjoy greater freedom and flexibility in their daily activities such as eating and brushing their teeth.
No one ever loves having their dentist tell them that they have issues of crowding, gaps, or misalignment and that they are going to need braces. Usually this is because traditional metal or ceramic braces are bulky, limit the foods you can eat, sometimes painful, and can really alter your appearance. With the new technology of invisible braces, everyone has the freedom to get the perfect teeth they dreamed of without anyone else hardly noticing the process. You'll be able to remove the aligners easily to eat and drink or for special occasions, so having braces is no longer a big deal.
Invisible braces (often referred to as aligners or trays), come in a top and/or bottom set depending on the teeth you're working to move. They can easily be clipped on or off to eat or brush your teeth. They are made through a comprehensive scan of your mouth using dental technology. This allows your physician to create a treatment plan for how your teeth should gradually adjust over time with new sets of aligners every few weeks. Invisible braces are usually made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) because it is transparent, durable, and strong.
Oftentimes people look back on photos from their youth and laugh about the awkward times when they had a funny choice in clothing, were growing into their bodies, and had giant braces to top it off. It's hard finding your confidence as a kid and needing hunks of metal in your mouth while you do it. The same goes for adults. Many people who could benefit from braces later in life often opt not to do it because of the way traditional braces look. With invisible braces, kids as young as six or as old as a hundred could benefit from them without some of the unwanted side effects that came with metal braces.
Since invisible braces work in phases where different sets of aligners are formed to shift specific teeth into place, it is a gradual process. In young kids, a dentist may identify a potential problem with the way their permanent teeth are growing in and recommend a short stint of aligners to nip the problem in the bud. Years down the road as all their adult teeth have settled, they may need another round of invisible braces to straighten things out for good. It's a flexible process that works great for people of all ages and is the least life-altering or noticeable way to get perfect teeth.
As invisible braces have gained popularity, quite a few companies have emerged that offer services to provide them. It can be hard to know which company will give you the best results, so we recommend taking the following things into consideration when deciding who to trust with your smile:
