Won't punish an escaped dog for returning

First, there's an alert zone, followed by a warning zone, and then your dog receives either a static correction or a vibration. What's great is that your dog only gets this correction when it leaves the designated area. Unlike other systems, SpotOn doesn't penalize your dog for coming back into the safe zone. Essentially, this means your dog won't be scared to return home. This is a rare feature among invisible fences. The correction levels are customizable from the app, and you have the option to set the system to only vibrate if you prefer not to use static correction.

Cell signal and extra subscription needed for escape alerts

SpotOn offers real-time notifications if your dog leaves the pre-set boundaries. This includes detailed reports showing when and where your dog exited the fence. You can even switch on a small light built into the collar to help you find your dog in the dark. Unfortunately, these features require purchasing a cellular subscription for each collar. It'll cost you a pretty penny to keep your dogs contained with SpotOn. Remember that the SpotOn system is entirely contained in the collar, meaning that each dog in your household will need its own. They cost $999 each. And, if you want the extra features, you're looking at $7.95 per collar per month, billed annually at $95.40. (There are also monthly and 2-year billing options.) They offer the cellular features through AT&T/Bell for US and Canada, and Verizon for US customers only. It seems like international customers can't use the cellular features at all.

SpotOn has a 90-day return policy and prides itself on its award-winning customer support. You can contact them seven days a week from 9am - 6pm ET via phone or email. They're recognized by the Customer Service Institute of America, and each of their customer service representatives is certified in providing high-quality service.

One-time collar replacement if lost

SpotOn also has a unique "Accident Forgiveness" program. If your dog's collar falls off and you can't find it, they can help you locate it remotely. If it's still missing, they'll replace it with a refurbished collar once, no questions asked. Also, every SpotOn invisible fence collar comes with a one-year warranty that covers any issues caused by the manufacturer. If there's a problem, they'll either fix your collar or replace it with a refurbished one that meets the same quality standards as a new one.

SpotOn uses potentially illicit methods to get your data

While SpotOn may be excellent at tracking your pet, you should be aware that they might be tracking you, too. While reviewing this company, we unexpectedly received a promotional email from them "via SafeOpt”, even though we never gave SpotOn our email address. When we looked into it, we learned that the parent company of SafeOpt, called AddShoppers, is involved in a class action lawsuit for those reasons; they're accused of tracking people on the internet without permission, collecting their personal information, and then using that information to send them ads on behalf of their customers. SpotOn seems to have paid SafeOpt to steal your data and send you promotional emails. This costs SpotOn points for trustworthiness - keep in mind, this is a GPS service, which means they'd have access to your property's layout and your dogs' exact locations. Are you comfortable with the possibility of them selling this data? It's something worth considering.

Won't serve most kinds of dog owners

While SpotOn's GPS collars are of high quality, the product's appeal is pretty specific. You'll need a large property and a sizable budget of $1,000 per dog. Though they claim no cellular data is needed, you have to pay a monthly subscription to use key features like escape alerts. On the positive side, they have good customer reviews, excellent support, and a handy "accident forgiveness” program. However, they lose trust due to their involvement in questionable data collection practices. Escapes have multiple fail-safes

If your dog does escape the Halo invisible fence, he or she will only receive corrections while headed away from the boundary. Thanks to Halo's real-time tracking, as soon as your dog turns around, the correction should stop, meaning you won't accidentally train your beloved pet not to come home. Halo also claims that the training process designed by Cesar Millan will improve your dog's recall so that an escape can be quickly remediated.

A Halo invisible fence dog collar costs $599. When comparing that to other GPS invisible fences, this is about average. While it's easier to set up than a traditional buried wire invisible fence, those can be cheaper by around $100-$200. Also, keep in mind that GPS fences typically require a monthly subscription fee to make use of all of their features. Halo isn't an exception.

You have three subscription options for Halo's Pack Member Plan. The Bronze plan at $9.99/month gives you 5 virtual fences, round-the-clock GPS tracking, and daily activity reports, among other features. Refund within 60 days minus $25 fee

If you buy a Halo Collar and aren't happy with it, you can return it within the first 60 days. The collar must still work and can't be damaged by you or your pet. No matter what shape the collar is in, they'll take $25 out of your refund for shipping and handling fees. Your original shipping fees also aren't refunded.

Collar must be activated within 60 days for warranty to apply

If you buy a new or refurbished Halo Collar, it comes with a one-year warranty from the date you activate it. This means if something goes wrong because of defective parts or workmanship, Halo will fix or replace it at no cost to you. Cesar Millan's methods are controversial

Many people report the collars shocking dogs while they're in the safe zone. The common sentiment can be summed up in the words of this customer: "It worked well about 75% of the time. The GPS technology they use just isn't accurate or consistent enough. It made my dog skittish and confused." Another user reported that, contrary to the design, the collar delivered a corrective punishment when their dog was trying to return home after an escape.

Customer service can be slow to respond

If you buy a Halo collar, you might also face problems with the warranty and returns. One customer had their collar break after just over a year. When they sent it in for repair, they were told it couldn't be fixed, leaving them $700 poorer. The company leans hard on their affiliation with Cesar Millan, but his beliefs about dog psychology have been called into question by many. Critics believe his methods are too punitive. Some have concluded that his endorsement of Halo invisible fences indicates that these fences are also unnecessarily punitive. Even if Halo's claim that the "static correction" feels like a "gentle tap on the shoulder" is true, we're not comfortable with the numerous false corrections reported - that's a fast way to turn a confident, happy dog into a nervous, mistrustful one.

BHCEY hides negative reviews about dogs getting shocked while obeying

We found a concerning number of reviews reporting that the collars shock dogs even when they are not out of range. What's more, the company seems to habitually request that customers who have posted negative reviews either change or remove them. We can't recommend the BHCEY invisible fence. On the surface, there are many positive reviews, but that isn't the whole story. It seems like BHCEY is more concerned with maintaining appearances than keeping your pup safe. They've been refunding customers who complain about their dogs being inappropriately shocked for quite some time now. This suggests that they're aware of the defects, but they'd rather placate the customer and move on than fix the issue. This makes it hard to trust any of their claims. For instance, they claim the collars are waterproof, but do you want your dog to be the one to discover that's not true? Malfunctioning invisible fence collars damaged by water have been known to send random signals, which can include shock levels far exceeding the intended level. In 1998, the business evolved into PetSafe, expanding its range to include training aids, pet doors, and bark control products under the PetSafe and Guardian brands. They have a few kinds of invisible pet fences on offer.

Three kinds of invisible fences

PetSafe sells three types of fences: GPS, wireless, and in-ground. An in-ground invisible fence requires you to bury a wire around your yard's perimeter. This fence has 112 reviews and a 4.2 rating, but we were alarmed to read multiple complaints about the collar prongs breaking off and that the collar randomly shocks dogs, even if they obey the boundary. These complaints have been ongoing for over a decade, and it seems nothing has changed.

Free shipping on orders over $69

When you order an invisible fence from PetSafe, they'll process your order the next business day and your fence will be shipped for free (as will anything over $69). It should arrive in about 5-7 business days. You can choose faster 1-day or 2-day shipping by paying extra, but some items like batteries can only go by standard shipping. If you live in Alaska or Hawaii, your shipping options are limited and not free. Also, know that the free shipping and other deals only apply to orders placed directly on the PetSafe website.

45 days to return

If you're not happy with your PetSafe product, you can send it back within 45 days from when you bought it, but it should be in the same condition as when you got it and in its original packaging. Distrubing information

They described the shock with softer terms like "static correction," "surprise," "tickle," and "stimulation." But in reality, this "static correction" is a painful electrical shock. Disturbingly, the legal complaint included a graphic image of a dog's neck with literal burn holes from the collar. The lawsuit also stated that PetSafe knew but did not disclose that there are hundreds of documented cases where shock collars have caused serious injuries to pets, including burns, infections, skin ruptures, inflammation, bruising, and infections.

Severe traumatization is an issue

With so many complaints dating back years about PetSafe collars shocking dogs for no reason, and the disturbing images showing that these shocks can cause burns, it raises a concern: what if you're not home when the collar malfunctions and starts shocking your dog who isn't doing anything wrong? It's clear that the "correction” these collars give out is more of a punishment, no matter how cutesy the company tries to make it sound. Due to the harm they can cause, many European countries have banned electric fences, deeming them inhumane. We'd recommend you avoid PetSafe in particular.
