Unfortunately, because the causes of IBS are still largely unknown, those who suffer from it are often at a loss when trying to get relief. Even the symptoms can vary depending on the individual: one person may experience severe cramping and abdominal pain, while another deals with alternating constipation and diarrhea.
While this disorder affecting the large intestine can be both painful and embarrassing, the good news is that for most sufferers, the symptoms are rarely life-threatening. In fact, the vast majority of people with IBS can regulate their symptoms through changes to their diet, managing their stress, and lifestyle modifications.

Manufactured by The Relief Products (TRP), Irritable Bowel Syndrome Therapy is a trustworthy solution for your IBS symptoms. These fast-dissolving tablets support your system with an impressive blend of homeopathic ingredients.
These ingredients include:
The tablet is taken under the tongue 3 times a day or as directed by a physician, and can be used up to 6 times a day as needed. Each bottle contains 70 tablets, representing a supply of approximately 23 days when used on a regular dosage schedule. Priced at $9.08/bottle, this is the most affordable regimen for IBS by far.
Plus, on our most recent visit, we got a pop-up offering a 20% discount and free shipping (on any order of at least $50) as a first-time customer if we signed up for their email newsletter. Most customers will be impressed with that level of savings for this product, especially given the number of reviews we found that said these tablets worked for their IBS when nothing else delivered relief. Another positive aspect of using Irritable Bowel Syndrome Therapy is that it can be taken safely with other medications.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome Therapy is offered by Swanson Vitamins, a company with a history spanning more than 50 years. The company had an "A+" grade at the Better Business Bureau at the time of this review. We found their customer service team to be incredibly friendly and responsive, though some customers have commented recently that orders are taking longer than usual to be delivered, compared with previous shopping experiences with this retailer.
Besides the extremely affordable price, another compelling reason to try Irritable Bowel Syndrome Therapy is the return policy. If you try the product and don't get the results you were hoping for, you can return the unused portion to Swanson Vitamins within 30 days for a full refund. Compared with other products in our review that are both expensive and non-returnable when used/opened, this is a huge plus.
When it comes to an all-around effective approach to the most common symptoms of IBS, this tablet is top notch. Affordable, gentle on the body, and all-natural, Irritable Bowel Syndrome Therapy earns our highest recommendation.
Kijimea IBS takes a unique approach to fighting Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This product is designated as "medical food" because it uses a patented bifidobacteria strain, B. bifidum MIMBb75, to tackle the most disruptive symptoms of IBS. In fact, Kijimea IBS has been used successfully for many years in Europe and is clinically shown to reduce abdominal pain and discomfort, urgency, distension and bloating.
The capsules are taken twice daily. So, at a price of $49.90 for 56 capsules, you'll get a 28-day supply in each package. That works out to $1.78/day, and with free shipping on most orders, you'll save a lot compared with many of the other IBS products we evaluated.
Another positive aspect of Kijimea IBS is that it's extremely safe and well-tolerated. The makers of the product describe the capsules as "allergy-friendly", suitable for a vegan diet, and with no known side effects.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer's return policy only allows you to make returns of unopened products, so you won't be able to get a refund if you try this IBS product and don't like it. However, over more than 400 user reviews, Kijimea IBS has earned an impressive average of 4 out of 5 stars. Like any medication or supplement, it's not guaranteed to work for everyone, but the vast majority of users are extremely happy with the results they get when using the capsules. Many comments say that Kijimea IBS has finally delivered relief when nothing else - prescriptions, over-the-counter remedies like Immodium, and more - even made a dent in customers' IBS symptoms.
If you like the idea of taking a "dietary management" approach to your IBS, Kijimea IBS is worth trying. Competitively priced within the industry and proven to be effective in relieving some of the most disruptive symptoms of IBS, this product should be on your list of options to try.
Heather's Tummy Fiber uses organic Acacia Senegal fiber in powder form to fight Irritable Bowel System. As the name suggests, this product focuses on soluble fiber to soothe and regulate bowel motility, alleviate constipation and diarrhea, and stabilize intestinal contractions. Acacia Senegal fiber works to increase good gut flora as an all-natural ingredient with a prebiotic effect.
Similar to other high-fiber powders, you mix Heather's Tummy Fiber with water or mix in with moist foods. It's recommended that you start with a low dose, maybe ½ of a level teaspoon, twice daily and increase gradually as desired. Don't exceed a maximum daily dose of 30 grams.
The retailer offering Heather's Tummy Fiber, VitaSprings, does not allow you to return the product if you've opened it. According to their store policy, you would need to contact the manufacturer to request a refund if you try this option and don't like the flavor or don't get effective relief for your IBS. Fortunately, at a price of $19.56 for a 1-lb. can, you won't have to worry about spending a lot of money to give this a try.
While we weren't able to find hundreds of reviews for this IBS product, we did find many people with encouraging things to say about the entire Heather's Tummy Care line of all-natural products.
Heather's Tummy Fiber is an inexpensive, single-ingredient IBS product that has helped many people get relief from constipation, diarrhea, and other symptoms gently and naturally. And, because of its affordable pricing, there's virtually no risk in giving it a chance to deliver relief for your Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Serovera is a complete product line that addresses Irritable Bowel Syndrome through what they call "immune modulating supplements": AMP 500 in capsule form or as a powder, as well as the SEROLife probiotic capsule (which is included for free with your first purchase of AMP 500).
Why address the immune system? According to research, 80% of your immune system is contained within the digestive tract, making it a pretty important target for anything designed for IBS. For that reason, Serovera's main supplement, AMP 500, does the following:
This supplement uses aloe mucilaginous polysaccharides (AMP) derived from aloe vera plants to accomplish all of those goals. The makers of Serovera use a process that causes little to no thermal damage during manufacturing, allowing the product to have a higher potency than other IBS supplements that also use AMP.
Serovera AMP 500 comes with a pretty hefty price tag: $132.20 for one bottle containing 270 capsules. The good news is that a single bottle could last you up to 3 months, depending on the regimen you opt to use when taking the supplement. You can also save money when ordering more than one bottle at a time, with savings ranging from $26 to $222 on purchases of 2 to 6 bottles in a single purchase.
However, you aren't protected by a satisfaction guarantee on any opened bottles. You can return any unopened product within 90 days of purchase, but you'll still be out the cost of at least the first bottle you use. That puts Serovera lower than some of their competitors who allow opened bottles to be returned (and who charge much less for a single bottle).
So, is it worth the investment? That depends. If you're okay with an experiment that costs at least $132.20, Serovera has been effective for a wide range of conditions: not just IBS but also heartburn, diverticulitis, and more. Positive comments specifically reference the potency and quality of the aloe extracts in Serovera, with comparable products not delivering results like this supplement did. On the other hand, some users said that they felt that their IBS needed to be dealt with by decreasing the intestinal response, not by prompting it to be more active (a heightened immune response).
Most supplements aren't a one-size-fits-all, so you'll have to decide if Serovera is worth trying in your case. Overall, it takes a solid approach to IBS relief and has worked effectively for some customers, but we'd like to see a more customer-friendly return policy on a product with such a steep buy-in cost.
For over two decades, Digestinol has been used to soothe a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders, from Irritable Bowel Syndrome to Acid Reflux and more. Similar to at least one other product in our review, this supplement is derived from the aloe vera plant, whose extracts have been shown to reduce inflammation, boost the immune system, reconstruct the intestinal mucous lining, and more.
Often abbreviated as AMP (short for Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides), this extract is safe for general use, causes no interactions with other medications, and can be used with patients of any age.
Digestinol comes in two formulas, Type S and Type L. The only difference between them are the additives used to increase absorption, Soy Lecithin and L-Glutamine. You should choose the formulation that is right for you; unless you have specific allergies and/or sensitivities, either product should work in the same way when dealing with your IBS.
The Digestinol website leaves a lot of room for improvement. First, the entire site isn't secure (https vs http). When buying a product that costs at least $159, we hesitate to enter our credit card information when we can't guarantee that our information will be protected. Plus, when looking for some of the most important information about the supplement - namely, dosage information - we had to spend a lot of time searching.
Eventually we found that Digestinol is made to be taken in two phases, Loading and Maintenance. During the Loading Phase, expect to take 9 capsules daily and continue until you feel your IBS symptoms are under control. After that, you can shift to the Maintenance Phase, taking just 3 capsules per day. In other words, a bottle will last anywhere from 1-3 months.
We also didn't appreciate some mixed messages on the Digestinol site. For example, on the primary product page, you'll read that the company guarantees that Digestinol is more effective than any similarly-formulated product on the market. But, if you take the time to find and read the fine print on the Returns page, you'll discover that the 60-day return policy only applies to unopened bottles. So, if you find the capsules to be totally ineffective for IBS relief, you're stuck with any bottles you've opened and no refund. Given how much Digestinol costs, the company could go a long way towards helping customers by offering a more generous return policy.
Yes, over the 20 years that the product has been on the market, Digestinol has earned the loyalty of more than a few people who have gotten relief from IBS and other GI disorders when all other products failed. That track record should be taken into account.
However, given the less-than-secure, outdated website, disappointing return policy and high cost per bottle, Digestinol might be best reserved as a last resort, if and when you've already tried the higher-ranked products in our review that have more customer-friendly price tags and return policies.
Bowtrol Probiotic says that it can help you restore your digestive health in just 10-14 days, through its probiotic supplement. Sold in a bottle of 60 capsules for $39.95, this product contains up to 10 billion microorganisms per VegiCap. It's billed as a one-size-fits-all approach to digestive troubles, not just specifically IBS.
How many should you take and when? The recommendation is one capsule per day, on an empty stomach for best results.
How many customers have successfully used Bowtrol Probiotic, either for IBS or for other conditions? Good luck figuring that out, because the details on the Bowtrol site are few and far between.
However, you're going to need more than luck if you're not happy with the results you get when using Bowtrol Probiotic. Although the online store says you'll have up to 90 days from your purchase date to ask for a refund (minus a $10 restocking fee per bottle), you have to jump through hoops to do so. Those hoops start by requesting an RMA number by clicking a link that takes you to another site, Web Support Center, which didn't exactly inspire confidence. And, returns are only given for unused products, which isn't much of a guarantee. (It's worth noting that when we tried their toll-free number, we got a busy signal - no matter what time of day we called.)
We also felt like we'd been misled when promised a 50% discount. After we entered all of our contact information and added to cart, we were taken to a pricing page that said we would only get a significant discount - not even equal to 50% - if we bought at least 2 bottles at a time.
Finally, when we went to see Bowtrol Probiotic's terms and conditions, we were taken to a Hair Regrowth product site. When we looked into the reputation of that product (and with it, the parent company for Bowtrol as well), we found an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau for the entire operation. That doesn't exactly lead us to believe that Bowtrol Probiotic is an IBS option that is well-formulated, reputable, and backed by a company committed to its customers and their health.
With so many other IBS relief products to choose from, especially ones that have a solid reputation for effectiveness and responsive customer service, why take the risk with Bowtrol Probiotic? We recommend that you select one of the other Irritable Bowel Syndrome products in our review.
However, for some patients with IBS, medication can be necessary, both to soothe the GI tract and to relieve those symptoms, allowing people to live as normally as possible. Fortunately, there are a number of products on the market today that can greatly reduce the effects of IBS - heartburn, anxiety and exhaustion, bloating, acid reflux and more - affordably and naturally. These products can be obtained without a prescription and easily ordered online for maximum convenience and privacy. Best of all, these IBS products often come with generous satisfaction guarantees that allow for a full refund if they don't deliver the relief you expect.
