If you're feeling like getting a special dose of Americana, you might like Dollar Jerky Club. This down-to-earth company is based in Nashville, Tennessee and claims to provide low-cost jerky for low prices. The owners are blue-collar outdoorsmen wanting to offer you something better than "run of the mill” or "gas station” jerky. However, this company may be somewhat new, as the website has a few errors. For example, when we searched for extra details outside of the main page on the company's history, the "About” page led us to a 404 error. Dollar Jerky Club may need to spend a little extra time cleaning up its website before being a contender.
Pick from 3 sizes and 4 commitments
To get signed up, you just need to click the "Get Started” button on the main page. All of the shipments will go out on the first of the month, and you can choose between small, medium, and large boxes. Each ship at four different frequencies: a month-to-month plan and three prepaid plans (3 months, 6 months, and 12 months). All of the plans are auto-renewing and include one shipment of the box size of your choice per month.
3-15 jerky products per box
The options included in the boxes change slightly depending on which size you go for. The Small Box includes 3-5 different jerky products. including bags of jerky, jumbo sticks, and more. The Medium Box includes 5-8 premium jerky products as well as swag, like hats or branded materials. The Large Box includes 8-15 jerky items as well as samples of new flavors and swag. Some of the flavors we found on the site include:
However, you can't see the jerky selection for individual boxes. You just need to wait for the surprise.
Pricing from $15 to $49.99 per month or $45.99 to $564.99 prepaid
The pricing changes depending on your chosen pay period and the size of the box. Here's what we discovered:
Shipping costs around $15
At the time of our review, Dollar Jerky Club charged a flat rate of $15 for shipping. We tried adding the larger and more costly boxes, but couldn't find a free shipping threshold. While $15 in shipping isn't too bad, most competitors offer free shipping (or a way to get free shipping with enough items in your cart), meaning Dollar Jerky Club falls behind the pack a bit.
No listed refund policy
At the time of our review, Dollar Jerky Club did not have a specific return or refund policy: you will be billed on the 11th of each month, and billing will happen automatically based on the plan you subscribed for (and this will auto-renew). Dollar Jerky Club also states that once a box has shipped, they will not accept returns. So, if you don't want to be charged for a shipment, be sure that you unsubscribe before the next pay period.
Concerns of scams and missing shipments
Currently, Dollar Jerky Club does not have a page on the Better Business Bureau. The only place we could find reliable reviews for Dollar Jerky Club (aside from a handful on Facebook) was Trustpilot, where Dollar Jerky Club has a 1.7-star average rating. Customers complain about packages never arriving and being unable to cancel subscriptions. Customers who did get their orders were furious at the low quality of the snacks. The reviews frequently used the words "trash” or "scam” to describe their orders from Dollar Jerky Club, and we're deeply concerned that this company is not as honest as it presents itself to be.
Keep your dollars safe from Dollar Jerky Club
While going with an all-American vibe sounds great, this site doesn't live up to the hype. There are a range of concerning issues like missing pages on the site, no refund policy, and reviews that complain regularly about scams and terrible service. With no positives to back up Dollar Jerky Club, it falls to the bottom of our review, with a cautionary note that many customers didn't get their shipments after buying. So, save yourself the hassle (and the call to your credit card company) and stay away.
Are you a camping enthusiast who needs the best snacks to make your trip extra special? Or maybe you've got a job that means you need a little extra protein with you all the time? Whether you're just a superfan of beef jerky, or trying to get some gains at the gym, there are tons of different flavors and styles of this salty protein snack.
While many of us might be used to grabbing a bag from the local grocery store (which is a fairly limited variety), there are tons of ways to score top-quality beef jerky online. With beef jerky clubs, you never have to worry about running out, and you can freshen up your snacking habits with rotating flavors and exciting new cuts.
Beef jerky is known as an American classic, but the history of the snack actually traces back to China in 1599 AD. In a document detailing Emperor Wan Li's journey in South China, he discovered dried meats made by locals seasoned with spice, salt, and smoke to preserve the food. From there, the idea of dried and smoked meats traveled along the Silk Road to Rome where it later spread and became popular with European nobles. The first time beef jerky was recorded in the US was during the 1800s when colonists used vinegar and salt to cure meat. Today, more than 128 million customers enjoy beef jerky per year, and some of the most popular flavors include teriyaki, pepper, and smoked/mesquite.
So what exactly is a beef jerky club? Well, it's exactly like most subscription clubs. All you need to do is search for a vendor that either provides a range of snacks or one that specializes in beef jerky and meats, find their subscription service, and join. You can usually choose the frequency of your orders or choose prepaid timeframes so that you can give beef jerky as a gift. Most sites offer a range of flavors and styles (we've seen some shops that have over 100 kinds of jerky), and you can get different shapes too, like beef sticks or the more traditional flat jerky.
Whether you're looking for a regular shipment of your tried and true favorites so you don't need to restock or you're hoping to find new flavors of smoke and seasoning, there are tons of services out there for your snacking needs. Either way, a beef jerky club is a great way to get as much beef jerky as you need year-round. You can never go wrong with a little extra protein.
