You might be wondering if you should buy your next piece on the internet. Is it safe? Will I get something that's not good quality? Can I trust buying jewelry online? Rest assured - not only is it safe - it's actually a great idea to buy your jewelry from an online store! In fact, it's one of the most common purchases that shoppers are making, while they transition from brick-and-mortar retailers to digital storefronts.
Why the big increase in popularity? It's for all the reasons you would expect. First, there's no local jeweler who can compete with the inventory of an internet retailer: you'll simply have more options online, and that makes it more likely you'll find exactly what you're looking for. Plus, your neighborhood jewelry store has overhead costs that get passed along to you in higher markups, while an online-only retailer can often give you significant savings. That's a win!

Blue Nile is the name you need to know when shopping for jewelry online. We love the incredibly wide range of pieces here, from "just your average day" wear to "jaw-dropping" . This store goes above and beyond in many ways, like free shipping on all US orders and lifetime warranty protection against manufacturer defects. Overwhelmingly positive customer reviews attest to this company's attention to customer satisfaction. When it comes to buying jewelry online, Blue Nile earns our highest rating.
James Allen offers an excellent selection, especially for diamonds, but this retailer has an amazing array of customer perks - like free worldwide shipping on every order, free returns for up to two months, and complimentary maintenance and repairs for life. Thousands of loyal shoppers give this jewelry store a perfect five-star rating, and they earn very high marks from us as well.
We love REEDS and we think you will too. Even if you're not close to any of their retail locations across a baker's dozen of states, their online jewelry store provides an impressive array of choices. In business for over 75 years, this family-owned store gets lots of kudos from thousands of happy customers and can be trusted to give you an excellent shopping experience for your jewelry purchase.
Zales specializes in diamonds - and just about every other imaginable type of jewelry too. If you like shopping at a familiar retailer and want the convenience of buying online and picking up in-store, there's probably a Zales near you. There's nothing crazy-good or over-the-top bad about Zales: just a tried-and-true option for buying jewelry.
If you ever bought jewelry featured on a 24/7 TV program, chances are good that you're familiar with JTV (previously known as Jewelry Television). But don't make the mistake of thinking that you'll only get cheap costume items here, because you'll miss an opportunity to buy high-quality, affordable jewelry - backed by a customer service team that has proven itself worthy of the thousands of 5-star reviews given by happy shoppers. JTV should be on your list of online jewelry stores to consider.
Family-owned Ross-Simons has been in the jewelry business for almost 70 years. You'll find jewelry priced from under $30 to... quite a bit more than that. This store has an interesting concierge service that can help you find the piece of your dreams, even if they have to make it themselves. There's a lot to love here, but a less-than-generous return policy and some disappointing customer feedback have kept Ross-Simons from earning our highest recommendation.
Silpada is a sterling jewelry store that sells thousands of classic styles for women at competitive price points. This is a good place for people who want budget-friendly pieces that they can wear with any outfit. Many people remember the days of at home Silpada parties with beautiful sterling silver jewelry options. Today, Silpada provides more convenient shopping via their online site with a wide variety of rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and more.
Helzberg Diamonds' retail locations can be found throughout the US, but their online store gives you far more inventory to choose from - with the convenience of ship-to-store delivery if you prefer. While there's nothing here that will really "wow" you compared with other jewelry stores, it's a reliable place to shop.
Super Jeweler is eager to earn your business, with free worldwide shipping and an unconditional lifetime guarantee on every jewelry item they sell, as well as a 60-day return policy. You could have some serious fun browsing the 35,000+ bracelets, necklaces, rings and more that are on offer here. But, this jewelry store's feedback from shoppers isn't universally positive, and the BBB gives Super Jeweler a corresponding "B" grade. It's not a bad place to buy jewelry, but there are more reliable stores to choose from.
Welry is a new-but-not-really online jewelry store that has undergone some ownership changes, launching under this new name in 2020. They offer a decent selection of traditional jewelry pieces, almost all under $1,000. Your purchase will ship for free and you're covered by a 60-day return policy. However, until Welry has more feedback from shoppers (and maybe an expanded inventory, since sizes and options can be somewhat limited here), they'll have to settle for a "just okay" rating from us.
"Every Kiss Begins with K(ay)" - but your jewelry shopping should not. While this retailer has some positives, like easy in-store pickup of online orders and a decent return policy, too many people report having a bad experience here. They're not the worst jewelry store we've seen, but they're definitely lackluster compared even with the other brands in their family.
"He went to Jared!" But maybe he shouldn't have. Despite being part of a solid brand family that includes three other jewelry stores in our review, this retailer is a mess when it comes to customer satisfaction. Who wants to buy jewelry from a company that doesn't stand by its products? We don't - and you shouldn't either. You've got much more promising options to choose from in our higher-rated jewelry retailers.
Diamonds USA could be a great place to shop for diamonds and other jewelry - but with an online experience that is disorganized at best and that looks like it hasn't been updated for the better part of a decade, it can't hold a candle to our higher-ranked retailers. We appreciate that this store has a 30-day return policy and zero complaints registered with the BBB, but there's not much reason to recommend Diamonds USA for your purchase.
Szul looks pretty good on the surface: you'll have no problem finding jewelry for every occasion and price point, from diamond solitaire pendants to rings and bracelets for men and women alike. The store offers free ground shipping and a 60-day return policy too. But, when you look at the complaints from customers who say that their Szul jewelry loses stones easily and that customer service turns a deaf ear, it's understandable why the Better Business Bureau gives this retailer a mediocre "C+" rating. Trust a more reliable online jewelry store with your business instead of Szul.
Jeulia has a lot of jewelry to choose from, like necklaces, earrings and even holiday-themed collections. All of their gemstones are manufactured and that can save you some money, but customers frequently complain about the overall quality of the items here. The store is doing better at responding to those complaints, but there's still not much reason to shop here compared with much more reliable retailers. Jeulia is our lowest-ranked jewelry store.
Another obvious reason is convenience. Do you have time to visit several jewelry stores on your days off from work, driving from one to another in the hopes you'll spot something you love? We don't either. Like every other thing we all shop for online, jewelry is faster and more fun to buy whenever we feel like it, in our jammies at home or on-the-go between errands. Why not?
There are a lot of possibilities for getting jewelry online. Where should you start? Your primary consideration may be whether or not it's important to you to have a physical store nearby: maybe you want to have your fiance's engagement ring shipped there for safekeeping and not to your home (where she might spoil the surprise), or you feel more comfortable buying online with the backup of in-person returns if needed. If those aren't a factor for you, don't hesitate to buy your jewelry from an online-only retailer - as long as the business has an established, positive reputation, of course.
