2026 Jewelry Store Reviews

Where's the Best Place to Shop for Jewelry Online?  Jewelry has captivated humans for centuries, not just as shiny adornments but as meaningful symbols of love, status, and personal style. From ancient Egyptian pharaohs who wore gold and gemstones to symbolize their divine status, to the protective amulets of medieval Europe, jewelry has always been much more than mere decoration.

On the Helzberg website

Helzberg started with the love story of its founders all the way back in 1915, with its first store in Kansas City, Kansas. That saga continued when, in 1967, Barnett Helzberg Jr. started handing out buttons saying "I am loved": he felt so inspired by proposing to his beloved that he exclaimed, "Buy her a diamond or give her a button, but in any case, tell her she's loved!" (By the way, you can still get those buttons for free at any brick-and-mortar Helzberg location!) Of course, this jewelry store hopes that you won't stop at a button to show your love (or to treat yourself), but rather that you'll fall in love with something sparkly and beautiful in their inventory.

You won't be lacking options

If you're looking for engagement or anniversary rings, rings for everyday wear, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, or items specifically for men, Helzberg makes it easy to choose from many different styles. We've taken a look at earrings across most of the jewelry stores we evaluated, to get an idea of what's available; at Helzberg, there were just over 950 pairs on offer, from some cutesy styles under $50 (like Disney Crystal Minnie Mouse studs, silver elephants, and endless hoops in 14K gold) to diamond dangle earrings in 18K white gold for $35,000.

Bargain-hunters won't be disappointed

As we browsed, we spotted some particularly good deals. Some were designated as "Outlet" items, like round diamond studs starting at just $299.88. Others were marked as Clearance pieces, such as the large hoop earrings with diamond cut in 14K gold for $329.99, down from their original price of $499.99. If you're on the hunt for a bargain, you can always jump right to the Sale, Clearance, or Outlet dropdowns at the top of the site.

How about a free consultation?

Need a little help finding just the right jewelry for your special occasion? Helzberg puts their experts at your disposal: just set up a virtual appointment, in-store consultation, or reach out via live chat. There's no cost for this service. It's good that Helzberg provides this, because most of the jewelry we spotted in the store didn't have any customer reviews to go by: you may need to chat with a rep to get some of your questions answered before you order.

You can say "I do" when you pick up your ring

One funny "benefit" offered by Helzberg that we're pretty sure you won't find at any other jewelry store: they ordain their in-store associates so that you can not just find your rings but actually get married at the store. Over 100 couples have opted for the "elope here" perk since 2019. (We're pretty sure you'd need to choose in-store pickup for your online order if you want to take advantage of that, though. No weddings-via-Zoom as far as we're aware!)

Not as many shopper benefits as rival jewelers

The rest of the "perks" offered by Helzberg are a little lackluster (if you get what we're saying) compared with its rivals. You'll only have 30 days for returns and exchanges, and not every piece of jewelry is available for in-store pickup. You'll only qualify for free shipping if your order is at least $99; granted, that covers the vast majority of Helzberg's inventory, but with competitors offering free worldwide delivery on orders of any size, it's hard to get excited by Helzberg's policy. But, there's always the possibility of picking up your jewelry in person, either to qualify for free delivery or to make it less likely that your items go missing in transit. You'll see those options as you click on any piece that interests you, if it's available at a Helzberg location near you.

Best Jewelry Stores

Some jewelry customers love this store

As one would expect from a centuries-old jewelry store, Helzberg has an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. That means they respond to complaints in a timely, professional fashion; there were only 110 of those filed with the BBB over the three-year period leading up to our review, which is pretty solid considering that this jeweler has over 200 retail locations in addition to their online store. And, some people really love the Helzberg experience: they find beautiful pieces right within their price range and are happy with the long-term quality of their jewelry.

Too many 1-star ratings

Unfortunately, there are also quite a few unsatisfied Helzberg shoppers: many of the reviews we found were pretty equally split between 1- and 5-star ratings. While some of the rants mention specific locations' employees (which won't affect your online order), many of them relate to issues post-purchase, especially with damage noticed after jewelry was cleaned or repaired by Helzberg. We also weren't thrilled with the analysis we read from some diamond experts who described most of the stones at Helzberg as being grossly overpriced for the quality. That won't be a problem if you're not shopping for diamonds, but it's worth keeping in mind.

Just mid-tier among jewelry stores

On the whole, Helzberg is just average. From selection to service, there isn't anything that makes us particularly say either "wow" or "whoa, now, wait a minute" here. Even the reviews from customers are middle-of-the-road, landing Helzberg the same rating from us. It's not the worst place you could shop for jewelry, but you might want to browse the stores that are higher on our list first.

Today, people buy jewelry for various reasons: to celebrate milestones, express personal style, or even as investments. Whether it's a sparkling engagement ring or a simple bracelet that matches your favorite outfit, jewelry holds a special place in our lives.

One big change in the world of jewelry is the ability to shop online. Have you ever gone to a brick-and-mortar jewelry store and felt pressured by a hovering salesperson? We have! It's not an enjoyable experience, but fortunately it's one that's easily avoided now. You can get access to the widest range of bracelets, earrings, watches, rings, necklaces, and any other kind of jewelry imaginable through online stores. Even the big-name jewelers' best selection is typically online.

Does the idea of buying your jewelry over the internet make you a little nervous? That's understandable, but the good news is that there are plenty of customer-centric policies and processes offered by online jewelers that should set your mind at ease. Some stores let you do a real-time inspection via video call, so you can see what you're buying from every angle.

Others let you ship your jewelry to a local store or an in-person partner location so you can see it up close and personal before you decide to commit to the purchase. And, the best online jewelry stores have generous return and exchange policies, often with free return shipping (or in-store returns if they have retail locations near you).

When diving into the world of online jewelry shopping, it's important to navigate with a bit of savvy to ensure you're getting something truly special. Here are a few criteria that can help you out as you decide where to shop:

To help you find the perfect piece of jewelry that not only looks fantastic but also stands the test of time, the experts at Top Consumer Reviews have researched and ranked some of today's most popular online jewelry stores. Take this information and let it guide your shopping the next time you need an amazing gift (maybe even for yourself!).

Jewelry Store FAQ

What kind of jewelry can I buy online?
You can get any jewelry you'd normally buy at a brick-and-mortar store. From watches and bracelets to custom-designed engagement rings, there's no limit to the selection you'll find when shopping online for your next piece of jewelry.
Why would I shop online for jewelry?
Why not? You've got the convenience of shopping anytime and from anywhere, the world's best inventory, and prices that rival what you'd get locally. Because many online jewelry stores don't have a retail presence, they save money on overhead and pass those savings along to the customer.
What about shipping? Will I pay extra, and will my order arrive safely?
Some stores include free shipping - either on all orders or when you spend a minimum amount of money. Your package will likely be insured by the jeweler, so it should arrive just as safely as your other deliveries. (Just watch out for porch pirates!)
What if I need to return the jewelry?
You'll usually be covered by a return policy ranging from 30-60 days. Many jewelers include a prepaid return label with your jewelry. Or, if you're buying online from a jeweler that has a location near you, you may be able to return it in-person for added peace of mind.
Can I get high-end items? Or am I limited to costume pieces?
The sky is the limit. Whether you want an inexpensive pendant or a $20,000 diamond, you'll find it online.
Are there any guarantees or warranties on my jewelry purchases?
Sometimes. Only a few specifically state that they'll cover lost gemstones within the first year, for example. You might want to consider a separate insurance policy if you're buying a more expensive piece of jewelry.
My local jeweler offers a payment plan. Can I get that from an online retailer?
Yes, depending on the store you select. You'll usually see those options in a link at the bottom of the site, or on the individual product pages for each piece of jewelry you're considering (often near the price details).
Are there any online jewelry stores to avoid?
Unfortunately, not all online jewelers are created equal. Some do a flawless job of delivering everything they promise and more - but others have left hundreds (if not thousands) of unhappy customers in their wake. But, it's easy to spot the jewelry stores that deserve your business: just look for an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and plenty of positive reviews from shoppers, and you'll know it's a trustworthy option for your jewelry purchase.

What You Should Look For When Buying a Diamond

A lot of people have this question. Buying a diamond is a commitment, so it's understandable that you'd want to educate yourself thoroughly before taking the plunge. Even so, this goes beyond picking the right jewelry store or knowing what kind of setting you'd like. What you should look for when buying a diamond directly relates to the four C's.

What Are the Four C's?

The four C's stands for carat, color, clarity, and cut. These are the main principles on which you should base your diamond purchasing decision. These attributes and their grading scales were developed by the Gemological Institute of America.

Other Factors
When determining what you should look for when buying a diamond, of course you need to pay attention to the four C's. Still, you also need to think about the shape of diamond you would want. They come in several styles with Round Brilliant being the most common. Other shapes include Princess, Emerald, and Oval.

Also consider where you're buying the diamond from. Not just any jewelry store will do. They are all unique and it's very easy to get ripped off if you don't know what you're looking for. A jewelry store should be GIA certified and it should have a good reputation with the BBB. Remember to look into these things because diamonds are expensive. Do your due diligence, just as you would with any other major purchase.
