On the Reeds Jewelers website

REEDS Jewelers, founded in 1946 by Bill and Roberta Zimmer, is a family-owned business with over 60 retail locations across 13 states, primarily in the Southeast and Midwest. Headquartered in Wilmington, North Carolina, REEDS offers a wide selection of fine jewelry, including engagement rings, wedding bands, watches, and designer pieces. Known for its exceptional customer service and quality products, REEDS Jewelers has built a strong reputation over the decades. They also provide online shopping options, allowing customers nationwide to access their extensive inventory and services.

Broad inventory from budget-friendly to blingy

Despite not having the same brand notoriety as some of the jewelers on our list, REEDS' inventory is quite extensive. As we compared the various retailers on our list, we used our favorite jewelry category (namely, earrings) to get a feel for what's on offer, and REEDS didn't let us down. There were over 2,100 earring sets to choose from, ranging from multi-earring sets and sterling silver hoops for under $30 to Mikimoto Morning Dew Akoya Cultured Pearl and Diamond Drops for $12,000. You'll have to go with one of the other highly-rated jewelry stores on our list if you're looking to buy some extremely extravagant earrings, but REEDS can still meet the needs of the vast majority of today's shoppers.

Filters can guide your shopping

Of course, REEDS' selection isn't limited to earrings. Whether you're shopping for a Rolex watch to commemorate your work promotion or a simple engagement ring for popping the big question, it's easy to find here. Once you've chosen a jewelry category, filters are your friend: you can narrow down the results by stone type or color, metal type, stone shape, price, designer, gender, and more.

Best Jewelry Stores

Try it on... virtually

When you've picked a piece that intrigues you, you might have fun with the "Try It On" tool offered by REEDS. You can either scan the QR code or upload a photo of your hand (or neck, or wrist, or ears...) and see how it might look. We also appreciate that there's a generic image you can use, and that there's a slider to change the skin tone. (Thank you for not assuming, REEDS!) There are plenty of other details you can consider too, from a description to the exact specifications.

Free shipping in the continental US

Also, every piece of jewelry in the REEDS store shows clearly when it'll ship and if it's available for in-store pickup (if there's a location near you; this jeweler isn't quite as nationwide with its brick-and-mortar presence like some of its rivals). Everything REEDS sells will ship for free within the lower 48 United States, regardless of the dollar amount of the order. That's pretty customer-friendly.

Savings are available

You could also save a bit of money if you keep your eyes open. We saw a "$50 off" link as we browsed the site; it was valid for new email subscribers and applied to orders over $199. There were also several promotions at the time of our visit to the REEDS online store, and there's always the Sale section if you're all about the discounts.

Best Jewelry Stores

Nothing over-the-top for gifting

As far as presentation goes, we didn't really see much describing how jewelry is packaged here. We reached out via live chat and the rep said that most items come in a dark gray REEDS Jewelers box, but it also depends on the brand itself.

No-cost consultations

Not quite sure what you're looking for? REEDS offers no-cost consultations virtually and in person. The easiest way to get to that link is to scroll down to the bottom of the main REEDS page (not a product page) where it says "Contact Us." Their concierge will answer your questions, help you pick a gift, or get you started on the complimentary design process if you want something truly bespoke.

30-day returns and warranties

REEDS Jewelers offers a 30-day return policy for a full refund and for exchanges. Items must be in their original condition and accompanied by the receipt. Custom-made items, special orders, and engraved pieces are typically non-returnable. For warranty, REEDS provides a complimentary lifetime diamond warranty on engagement rings, which includes services like cleaning, inspections, and coverage for any manufacturing defects. Additionally, REEDS offers a lifetime trade-in policy on diamond jewelry, allowing customers to upgrade their pieces over time. But, for most jewelry items, the only warranty that comes with your purchase is what's offered by the manufacturer (Pandora, Shy Creation, and so on) or is covered just by the 30-day return window.

Best Jewelry Stores

Extended protection is affordable and worth the cost

Extended service plans are also available for purchase, providing additional protection and coverage. And, they're really worth it. You can choose between a 3-year plan or a lifetime plan; both include repairs even due to normal wear and tear, cleanings and routine maintenance. The lifetime plan also gives you unlimited ring sizing, one-time chain or bracelet length shortening, one-time earring post conversion, and more. Best of all, REEDS' replacement guarantee says that if your jewelry has an issue that can't be repaired, they'll either replace it or give you a full refund for what you paid for the item. That's exceptional compared with other jewelry stores' coverage. You'll find what it'll cost you as you scroll through the item's product information, as it will depend on the piece of jewelry's value.

Phenomenal reputation

REEDS has always had an amazing reputation, each and every time we've evaluated them as a jewelry store. That starts with an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, with just under two dozen complaints filed with the BBB across the last three years. And, when you look at reviews left on third-party platforms like Trustpilot and others, customer sentiment is just as rosy as the BBB listing might lead you to expect, with 12,000 5-star reviews on Trustpilot alone. Jewelry is described as being exactly as pictured in the online store, the quality is excellent, and shoppers describe many ways that REEDS' customer service team have gone above and beyond to leave them more than satisfied with the overall experience.

Shop at REEDS with confidence

We're thrilled to make REEDS our newest #1 retailer of jewelry. Shopping online for such a special purchase can feel scary, but REEDS goes to great lengths to make the experience smooth and secure. And, they've got thousands of customer compliments to demonstrate that they're nailing it. The next time you're hoping to add some serious sparkle to your everyday look, or you're preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, do yourself a favor and make REEDS your first stop.

Where's the Best Place to Shop for Jewelry Online?

Jewelry has captivated humans for centuries, not just as shiny adornments but as meaningful symbols of love, status, and personal style. From ancient Egyptian pharaohs who wore gold and gemstones to symbolize their divine status, to the protective amulets of medieval Europe, jewelry has always been much more than mere decoration.

Today, people buy jewelry for various reasons: to celebrate milestones, express personal style, or even as investments. Whether it's a sparkling engagement ring or a simple bracelet that matches your favorite outfit, jewelry holds a special place in our lives.

One big change in the world of jewelry is the ability to shop online. Have you ever gone to a brick-and-mortar jewelry store and felt pressured by a hovering salesperson? We have! It's not an enjoyable experience, but fortunately it's one that's easily avoided now. You can get access to the widest range of bracelets, earrings, watches, rings, necklaces, and any other kind of jewelry imaginable through online stores. Even the big-name jewelers' best selection is typically online.

Does the idea of buying your jewelry over the internet make you a little nervous? That's understandable, but the good news is that there are plenty of customer-centric policies and processes offered by online jewelers that should set your mind at ease. Some stores let you do a real-time inspection via video call, so you can see what you're buying from every angle.

Others let you ship your jewelry to a local store or an in-person partner location so you can see it up close and personal before you decide to commit to the purchase. And, the best online jewelry stores have generous return and exchange policies, often with free return shipping (or in-store returns if they have retail locations near you).

When diving into the world of online jewelry shopping, it's important to navigate with a bit of savvy to ensure you're getting something truly special. Here are a few criteria that can help you out as you decide where to shop:

To help you find the perfect piece of jewelry that not only looks fantastic but also stands the test of time, the experts at Top Consumer Reviews have researched and ranked some of today's most popular online jewelry stores. Take this information and let it guide your shopping the next time you need an amazing gift (maybe even for yourself!).

Jewelry Store FAQ

What kind of jewelry can I buy online?
You can get any jewelry you'd normally buy at a brick-and-mortar store. From watches and bracelets to custom-designed engagement rings, there's no limit to the selection you'll find when shopping online for your next piece of jewelry.
Why would I shop online for jewelry?
Why not? You've got the convenience of shopping anytime and from anywhere, the world's best inventory, and prices that rival what you'd get locally. Because many online jewelry stores don't have a retail presence, they save money on overhead and pass those savings along to the customer.
What about shipping? Will I pay extra, and will my order arrive safely?
Some stores include free shipping - either on all orders or when you spend a minimum amount of money. Your package will likely be insured by the jeweler, so it should arrive just as safely as your other deliveries. (Just watch out for porch pirates!)
What if I need to return the jewelry?
You'll usually be covered by a return policy ranging from 30-60 days. Many jewelers include a prepaid return label with your jewelry. Or, if you're buying online from a jeweler that has a location near you, you may be able to return it in-person for added peace of mind.
Can I get high-end items? Or am I limited to costume pieces?
The sky is the limit. Whether you want an inexpensive pendant or a $20,000 diamond, you'll find it online.
Are there any guarantees or warranties on my jewelry purchases?
Sometimes. Only a few specifically state that they'll cover lost gemstones within the first year, for example. You might want to consider a separate insurance policy if you're buying a more expensive piece of jewelry.
My local jeweler offers a payment plan. Can I get that from an online retailer?
Yes, depending on the store you select. You'll usually see those options in a link at the bottom of the site, or on the individual product pages for each piece of jewelry you're considering (often near the price details).
Are there any online jewelry stores to avoid?
Unfortunately, not all online jewelers are created equal. Some do a flawless job of delivering everything they promise and more - but others have left hundreds (if not thousands) of unhappy customers in their wake. But, it's easy to spot the jewelry stores that deserve your business: just look for an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and plenty of positive reviews from shoppers, and you'll know it's a trustworthy option for your jewelry purchase.

What You Should Look For When Buying a Diamond

A lot of people have this question. Buying a diamond is a commitment, so it's understandable that you'd want to educate yourself thoroughly before taking the plunge. Even so, this goes beyond picking the right jewelry store or knowing what kind of setting you'd like. What you should look for when buying a diamond directly relates to the four C's.

What Are the Four C's?

The four C's stands for carat, color, clarity, and cut. These are the main principles on which you should base your diamond purchasing decision. These attributes and their grading scales were developed by the Gemological Institute of America.

Other Factors
When determining what you should look for when buying a diamond, of course you need to pay attention to the four C's. Still, you also need to think about the shape of diamond you would want. They come in several styles with Round Brilliant being the most common. Other shapes include Princess, Emerald, and Oval.

Also consider where you're buying the diamond from. Not just any jewelry store will do. They are all unique and it's very easy to get ripped off if you don't know what you're looking for. A jewelry store should be GIA certified and it should have a good reputation with the BBB. Remember to look into these things because diamonds are expensive. Do your due diligence, just as you would with any other major purchase.
