In business since 1952, Ross-Simons maintains its original flagship store in Warwick, Rhode Island but is best known for its print catalogs mailed around the globe. Of course, this jewelry store's full selection is easily accessed online. It includes all of the bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, and other traditional pieces you'd expect, as well as a separate collection of estate/vintage items for a timeless look.
Surprisingly large inventory
Ross-Simons surprised us with its selection. We snuck over into the earrings category (our personal favorite type of jewelry!) and were impressed to see nearly 6,500 styles to choose from. Some of this jeweler's rivals didn't even have half that. There were some really cute Italian sterling silver paper clip link bead drop earrings for just $29 on clearance, some CZ stud earrings designated as a "Super Deal" for $39, and a trendy diamond-accented cross single ear cuff in sterling silver, also on clearance for $39. Those were some of the finds on the lowest end of the pricing for earrings.
If money is no object, this jewelry store can help
On the other side, Ross-Simons also didn't disappoint. If your budget is over $30,000, you've got options here. Some of the stunners on offer were the 8.40 ct. t.w. diamond floral earrings in 18K white gold on sale for "just" $59,996.25 (a 25% discount!), a pair of black cultured South Sea pearl and diamond drop earrings in platinum for a little over $44,000, and the emerald and diamond chandelier earrings for $31,496; that last pair had a 10% discount in the cart during Ross-Simons' 10% promotion on all gemstone jewelry.
Store is easy to navigate
As you browse the jewelry selection here, it's really easy to see all of your options. Whether or not you use the filters to narrow down the choices, as you scroll you'll be able to see a clear image of each piece of jewelry, as well as if it comes with options (like gauge or gemstones), if there are any promotions in place, and if any shoppers have left a rating. We expected to see a few more customer ratings, but even the most popular sets in the earrings collection (the emerald drop earrings in sterling silver, sale priced at $120) only had 137 reviews (which averaged 4 out of 5 stars). Anything you buy comes with free shipping, as long as you're sending it within the US, and it comes in a basic blue jewelry presentation box.
Nothing exceptional with returns or repairs
You've got 30 days to return or exchange your jewelry from Ross-Simons: fairly standard within the industry, so nothing to be disappointed with or impressed by. We had trouble finding any warranty description in the store's FAQs, so we reached out via live chat and found that Ross-Simons stands behind their jewelry for a 1-year period for normal repairs. They also offer extended protection (which you'll see priced out on any jewelry you're browsing; just scroll down), but neither policy will cover you if you lose the entire thing (as is also standard). However, if a stone falls out and gets lost, the rep said it would be covered.
Reputation is increasingly positive
Ross-Simons maintains an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, and there were only a dozen complaints filed with the BBB about this jewelry store in the year leading up to our review. We're also pleased to note that, since our previous evaluation of Ross-Simons, the customer sentiment overall has trended much more positive. Across more than 8,600 reviews for the jeweler, over 90% give it a 4- or 5-star rating.
Repeat customers love them
Repeat customers say they've loved each and every piece of jewelry they've gotten from Ross-Simons over the years, and first-time shoppers often praise the surprisingly friendly customer service they received. And, it's nice to see that both compliments and complaints almost always get a response, sometimes with suggestions for a different product to try as an exchange for jewelry that didn't hit the mark, other times with an enthusiastic agreement with someone's love of a specific piece.
Fantastic jewelry store overall
There's no reason not to buy your jewelry at Ross-Simons. It won't take you long to find pieces you love, the customer service team has a great reputation, and this store has plenty of loyal customers over decades in business. It doesn't have some of the perks you'll see with a few rival stores, but overall we recommend Ross-Simons as a jeweler you can trust.
Jewelry has captivated humans for centuries, not just as shiny adornments but as meaningful symbols of love, status, and personal style. From ancient Egyptian pharaohs who wore gold and gemstones to symbolize their divine status, to the protective amulets of medieval Europe, jewelry has always been much more than mere decoration.
Today, people buy jewelry for various reasons: to celebrate milestones, express personal style, or even as investments. Whether it's a sparkling engagement ring or a simple bracelet that matches your favorite outfit, jewelry holds a special place in our lives.
One big change in the world of jewelry is the ability to shop online. Have you ever gone to a brick-and-mortar jewelry store and felt pressured by a hovering salesperson? We have! It's not an enjoyable experience, but fortunately it's one that's easily avoided now. You can get access to the widest range of bracelets, earrings, watches, rings, necklaces, and any other kind of jewelry imaginable through online stores. Even the big-name jewelers' best selection is typically online.
Does the idea of buying your jewelry over the internet make you a little nervous? That's understandable, but the good news is that there are plenty of customer-centric policies and processes offered by online jewelers that should set your mind at ease. Some stores let you do a real-time inspection via video call, so you can see what you're buying from every angle.
Others let you ship your jewelry to a local store or an in-person partner location so you can see it up close and personal before you decide to commit to the purchase. And, the best online jewelry stores have generous return and exchange policies, often with free return shipping (or in-store returns if they have retail locations near you).
When diving into the world of online jewelry shopping, it's important to navigate with a bit of savvy to ensure you're getting something truly special. Here are a few criteria that can help you out as you decide where to shop:
