Szul has been selling jewelry online since 1999, with its headquarters located in the prestigious Diamond District in Manhattan. They source their diamond and gemstone jewelry from around the world, delivering savings to you by cutting out the middleman and selling jewelry solely through the internet.
Solid selection of all jewelry types
What kind of jewelry are you looking for? You'll find links to Szul's inventory of rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets right up at the top of the site. There are also links to their men's collection, accessories, and styles specifically for engagement and wedding jewelry, as well as to their current deals and discounts. Select any of those categories and you'll get a closer look at your options: rings, for example, will break out into the most popular categories (like diamond or gemstone styles), products (like stackable rings or solitaires), and a specific section for rings featuring lab-grown stones. You'll usually need to choose one of those categories to start sorting by filters like metal type, price range, and stone shape.
Some categories don't have a ton of options
You won't be lacking for options when browsing Szul for jewelry. In rings alone, we saw more than 2,000 options in gemstone and engagement styles. Other kinds of jewelry weren't quite so well-stocked (there were only 87 options for gold bracelets and 176 styles in "lab gown diamond earrings” - and yes, that typo was in the dropdown box at the top of the site), but you'll still have more than enough to choose from in any jewelry category you've got in mind.
Prices are competitive
How about pricing? We're pretty satisfied with what we found at Szul. As an example, diamond solitaire earrings range from $34.60 for a diminutive pair of .05 carat studs in sterling silver, to $5,449 for 2 carat round studs in 14K white gold (and over 200 options in between).
Perks include free shipping (sort of)
When we first returned to shop at Szul for this evaluation, we got a pop-up discount of 12% off for providing our email address. It was nice not to have to wait for an email to land in our inbox: the code was displayed right on the Szul site after we hit "enter” on our email address. You'll also get free shipping on any order, no code (or email) required. (Just be aware that several Szul customers complained that their jewelry was delivered as "postage due”, so you could wind up having to pay for that delivery after all!) But, as a last perk, all jewelry at Szul comes with free gift packaging
Return policy is standard, warranty is disappointing
Szul offers a 30-day return policy. Just make sure to get an RMA before sending your jewelry back, or you'll be charged a 35% restocking fee. With respect to warranty coverage, this jeweler doesn't really compete well with some of its rivals, offering only 60 days of "wear and tear repairs” on its merchandise.
Would benefit from more shopper feedback
We're pleased to report that Szul has brought its Better Business Bureau rating up to an "A+” since our last evaluation, with only one complaint filed there within the last three years. But, customer feedback is a little lighter than what we like to see for the jewelry stores we recommend most highly: there were only a handful of reviews for Szul scattered around the internet, and they were somewhat mixed in their enthusiasm for this jewelry store (and many were several years old). In the reviews linked at the bottom of the Szul site, most gave the store positive feedback for providing a smooth shopping experience but hadn't yet received the jewelry in order to make a comment one way or the other.
Reviews aren't connected to the ratings
We'd like to tell you to rely on the ratings for individual pieces at Szul, but those aren't very helpful. For example, we were curious why the Infinity Diamond Hoop Earrings (with an excitingly low price of $30.50, marked down from $99) only had a 2-star rating; when we clicked to see more, it took us to a "Recent Customer Reviews” section that wasn't limited to the jewelry we were looking at. So, you might get an idea that at least one person didn't like the pieces you're considering, but that isn't really enough to go on.
Improving but not quite there yet
Szul jumps up in our ratings . We're happy to see its new "A+” from the BBB, and there aren't too many negative reviews to speak of. The warranty coverage is a little less than generous, though, and it's a bummer to think you could be expecting free shipping and wind up having to go to the post office to pay the postage due. We can't quite put Szul up there with our most recommended jewelry stores yet, but we're happy to reward them for their attention to customers.
Jewelry has captivated humans for centuries, not just as shiny adornments but as meaningful symbols of love, status, and personal style. From ancient Egyptian pharaohs who wore gold and gemstones to symbolize their divine status, to the protective amulets of medieval Europe, jewelry has always been much more than mere decoration.
Today, people buy jewelry for various reasons: to celebrate milestones, express personal style, or even as investments. Whether it's a sparkling engagement ring or a simple bracelet that matches your favorite outfit, jewelry holds a special place in our lives.
One big change in the world of jewelry is the ability to shop online. Have you ever gone to a brick-and-mortar jewelry store and felt pressured by a hovering salesperson? We have! It's not an enjoyable experience, but fortunately it's one that's easily avoided now. You can get access to the widest range of bracelets, earrings, watches, rings, necklaces, and any other kind of jewelry imaginable through online stores. Even the big-name jewelers' best selection is typically online.
Does the idea of buying your jewelry over the internet make you a little nervous? That's understandable, but the good news is that there are plenty of customer-centric policies and processes offered by online jewelers that should set your mind at ease. Some stores let you do a real-time inspection via video call, so you can see what you're buying from every angle.
Others let you ship your jewelry to a local store or an in-person partner location so you can see it up close and personal before you decide to commit to the purchase. And, the best online jewelry stores have generous return and exchange policies, often with free return shipping (or in-store returns if they have retail locations near you).
When diving into the world of online jewelry shopping, it's important to navigate with a bit of savvy to ensure you're getting something truly special. Here are a few criteria that can help you out as you decide where to shop:
