Since 2009, Walk-In Lab has offered a range of at-home test kits and online-ordered tests that require a visit to a lab. During past reviews, Walk-In Lab had a bit of a lackluster website, which made it harder to browse. Recently, the site has undergone a revamp that makes it much cleaner and on par with many of its modern competitors. Walk-In Lab stands out by offering a one-stop shop approach that includes both in-lab testing and samples that can be collected at home.
1,000+ tests to choose from
At the time of our review, Walk-In Lab had 1,110 different lab tests to choose from. Categories include popular choices like blood tests, comprehensive metabolic panels, lipid panel blood tests, pregnancy tests, and insulin fasting blood tests, among others. With hundreds of options available, most tests offer the choice between Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics, with some restrictions in certain states.
Tons of details to help you choose a test
When you begin browsing, you'll be able to find all sorts of tests to promote your health. Navigation is easy and you can find what you need in just a few clicks. Once you pick a test, you'll see pricing for Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics. Each pricing page includes details such as test costs, codes, descriptions, methodologies, preparation instructions, and expected turnaround times for results. You can also view sample reports from each company and access informational videos explaining the significance of the test.
Prices from $18 to $999.99 per test
Prices are extremely low at Walk-In Lab. For example, a Blood Glucose test is only $18 at Walk-In Lab. On top of that, the most expensive test doesn't go higher than $1,000 which is much cheaper than many competitors. The Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis Evaluation is the most pricey option and it costs $999.99, and well over 50% of all tests at Walk-In Lab are under $200.
Results in 1-2 days
Ordering tests from Walk-In Lab follows a standard process similar to other providers. After selecting tests and completing the checkout process, you'll receive a confirmation email with instructions. For tests requiring a visit to a local lab, you'll need to take a copy of the lab order for specimen collection. Results are typically available within 1-2 days and can be accessed online for review and sharing with healthcare professionals.
Full refund within 7 days
Walk-In Lab is committed to offering competitive prices and provides a price-matching guarantee. Should you find an identical test offered at a lower price by another provider, Walk-In Lab will match it upon request, underscoring their commitment to affordability and customer satisfaction. Plus, you have the option to cancel tests within 7 days of purchase for a full refund, provided specimens have not been collected. Refunds requested between 8 and 180 days after purchase are subject to a $10 cancellation fee, while at-home test kits incur a $50 cancellation fee.
Thousands of happy customers
Walk-In Lab has one of the best reputations in our review. It holds a perfect "A+” rating from the BBB, and reviewers have loads of good things to say about the service. On one site, the average rating is 4.8 stars out of 5 with nearly 17.000 total reviews to back up the score. On Trustpilot, 88% of all reviews are a perfect 5 stars. Customers praise the ease of access to tests, and the impressively low costs (even for uninsured patients). According to the reviews, many customers choose to use Walk-In Lab for tests (like bloodwork) that need to be done regularly.
Top pick for lab testing
Walk-In Lab has garnered praise from thousands of satisfied customers. With impressively low prices, a full refund policy in 7 days (beating out those who charge cancellation fees), and thousands of tests including at-home options, Walk-In Lab is your ultimate one-stop shop. Given all the impressive positives of this company, it easily earns the top spot in our review with a full 5-star rating.
HealthLabs has been offering fast, private, and affordable online lab testing since 2015. There are over 500 tests you can order online without needing a doctor or insurance. This direct-to-consumer service provides access to 4,500+ CLIA-certified labs across the U.S. for your convenience.
Go in for your pre-purchased tests
Once a test is selected, you can swiftly visit one of HealthLabs' 4,000+ partner testing centers nationwide (excluding New York and New Jersey). To get started at HealthLabs, you just need to select the test type that you want to take. Upon purchasing the test online, you'll input your zip code to locate the nearest testing center. You do need to go into a lab with many HealthLabs tests, but you are promised fast turnaround times for test results, typically taking only 1-3 days, with trained care advisors available to address any queries or concerns.
500+ different tests
The breadth of HealthLabs' services is impressive, covering 23 categories of tests and over 500 individual tests across those categories. From allergy and anemia testing to cardiac health, cholesterol, drug screening, heavy metals, hormones, infectious diseases, STDs, thyroid function, and more, HealthLabs offers an array of tests. Finding a specific test is easy, either by searching, browsing the categories on the main page, or entering the test code in the search bar, meaning that most standard health tests are accessible through HealthLabs.
Know all the details before you buy a test
HealthLabs offers you access to plenty of information about each test. Product descriptions on their website offer thorough explanations, such as the components of a 6-panel drug test, detection windows, testing procedures, preparation guidelines, result interpretation, and more. This detailed approach helps you make informed decisions. Plus, your privacy is a top priority with all of the tests and procedures at HealthLabs, following strict HIPAA guidelines, with your results posted to your private online portal.
Prices from $29 to $319 per test
HealthLabs offers competitive pricing, comparable to other providers in the industry. The company also provides a 110% price match guarantee, promising to match lower prices found elsewhere on the same test and offering a further 10% discount. Payment options are flexible, including HSA, FSA, PayPal, prepaid gift cards, as well as credit and debit cards. The least expensive test at HealthLabs is just $29 for a Gluten Allergy Test. The most expensive that we could find was the Acetylcholine Receptor Binding Antibody (AChR) Test for $319.
21-day refunds with cancellation fee
You have a 21-day window to cancel tests if you change your mind. This is better than some competitors who do ship tests to you, as you don't have any biohazards to worry about. This way you can get a refund as long as you haven't gone in for the lab test within the 21-day window. Refunds are issued minus a 20% cancellation fee, though.
Customers love their experience
While we couldn't find a Better Business Bureau page for HealthLabs, the company still stands out as one of the most favored choices for personal lab testing. HealthLabs excels in customer satisfaction, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from thousands of patients. On Trustpilot, HealthLabs shows a 4.8-star average rating out of 5. Customers praise the friendly customer service, timely communication, rapid result delivery, clear test instructions, and overall reliability and informativeness of the experience. Customers also regularly mention the extremely low prices for tests at HealthLabs.
A customer favorite
Given this high level of satisfaction, HealthLabs is among our top picks. While it may not be as convenient as some services that allow you to collect samples at home, the prices are extremely competitive, and with over 500 individual tests available, you're guaranteed to find what you need at HealthLabs while still dodging the fees and time-consuming appointments of a primary care doctor. We're extremely impressed with HealthLabs overall, and they earn an excellent rating in our review.
Ulta Lab Tests prides itself on its motto, "You order the test, we'll do the rest!" Established in 2013, the company offers convenient and confidential online lab testing services around the clock. Their primary objective is to render testing affordable by slashing prices up to 90%. To purchase a lab test, you do need to make a free account, but this is just to view your private results. Your test will be conducted at one of 2,100 partner patient service centers nationwide for specimen collection. Just be aware that residents of New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island are unable to make use of Ulta Lab Tests' services due to state restrictions.
Quick turnaround for results
At Ulta Lab Tests, they pride themselves on quick turnaround. Most test results are delivered within 12-48 hours on your Ulta Lab Tests online portal. Intuitive charts display data along with explanations of biomarkers, for a clear understanding of the results. You also have the option to download and/or print PDF copies of your results for sharing with healthcare providers.
1,000+ tests to choose from
With 19 categories of lab tests available, Ulta Lab Tests offers over 1,000 different tests on its roster. From general health screenings to specific concerns like blood disorders, neurological issues, infectious diseases, and cancer screening, each test category encompasses various subcategories, presenting you with a wide array of choices spanning from simple tests to complete panels and screenings.
Transparent and helpful site
For each test, you can access details including the purpose of the test, patient preparation guidelines, estimated processing times, and recommended additional tests. Furthermore, live support agents are available online to address any queries or concerns while browsing Ulta Lab Tests' website. During our browsing session, a chat window automatically popped up after about five minutes to ask if we needed help with our test search.
Prices from $46.95 to $1,051.95 per test
The prices at Ulta Lab Tests are fairly low. While some major tests like the Advanced Liver Health Comprehensive Test will cost more ($1,051.95), these prices are still lower than many of Ulta Lab Tests' competitors. At the low end, you can find tests like the Osteoarthritis Basic Test for just $46.95. For most tests, you can choose from four options ranging from Basic to Comprehensive, and the packages often contain multiple tests for the price. For example, a Basic Liver Health test includes 16 tests with 85 biomarkers while the Comprehensive one includes 25 different tests and 119 biomarkers.
60-day refunds with $10 fee
You can cancel orders within 60 days, provided no labs have been run. Ulta Lab Tests offers a full refund minus a $10 cancellation fee for unused tests. However, while occasional site-wide discounts and email promotions are offered, Ulta Lab Tests lacks a price match guarantee.
Customers come back for more
With an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, Ulta Lab Tests has an impressive reputation overall. In addition to top scores from the BBB, Ulta Lab Tests also holds an average of 4.5 stars out of 5 from third-party review sites. Most of the customers who have reviewed in recent years have given the site 5 stars and praised the customer service. Further, most patients leaving reviews have ordered multiple lab tests from Ulta Lab Tests and were satisfied every time.
One-stop shop for all budgets
For most customers, Ulta Lab Tests stands as an excellent option for online lab testing. Their extensive selection of tests, coupled with a recent addition of a variety of biomarkers, tests for different budget needs, and competitive pricing makes it a good service for those looking for total multi-panel tests or basic ones that won't break the bank. With a track record of satisfied patients and positive ratings, Ulta Lab Tests emerges as a reputable destination for online lab testing. For this reason, it earns a competitive rating in our review.
True Health Labs is known as one of the more affordable lab testing options, particularly for those without insurance or facing high deductibles. They offer tests from numerous CLIA-certified laboratories across the United States and internationally, providing flexibility in healthcare choices. As a bonus, if you obtain a list of required lab tests from your doctor and then purchase them online, you can earn potential discounts ranging from 20% to 80% compared to traditional physician-ordered tests.
Request special tests
True Health Labs offers the option to request tests not listed on their website by building a custom panel and submitting it for consideration. If the company can accommodate you, the requested test will be accepted and added to your account. Some tests at True Health Labs will be facilitated in person. Following online purchase, you can locate a nearby draw location from a network of over 2,000 sites for specimen collection. Other test kits, including those for stool, saliva, and hair analysis, can also be delivered to your home address for collection.
33 test categories and services
The platform has 33 categories of lab tests covering various concerns like cancer, cholesterol, drug, immune, infectious disease, thyroid, and STD testing, among others. You can also access COVID-19 testing and home testing kits for conditions like adrenal fatigue, breast cancer risk assessment, comprehensive stool analysis, and cortisol awakening response profile. Most tests show results within 3-5 business days.
Tons of details on each listing
True Health Labs is totally transparent about the individual tests on its site. If you click through the different listings, you'll find details like what specimens will be collected, whether or not you need to fast, locations where the test may not be collected, and some basic next steps for what to do with your test results. You can also access a "how it works” page from each test and an FAQ if you want more step-by-step information.
Prices from $69 to $2,989
Prices can be pretty high at True Health Labs. Unfortunately, their promise to be helpful to those without insurance may not be as accurate as it seems. The cheapest test we found was a basic blood test for $69. The most expensive option was a Lyme Co-Infection Panel for $2,989. There was no way to discount this price that we found on the listing, which was one of the most expensive tests we've seen so far.
4-month refund window
You have four months from the date of purchase to ask for a refund from True Health Labs. This applies only if you haven't gone to the lab for specimen collection, and either way there will be a 10% cancellation fee. However, kits delivered to your home cannot be returned to True Health Labs.
Easy tests and great customer service
With an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and over a decade in operation, True Health Labs maintains an impressive reputation. While not as widely recognized as some competitors, they have garnered favorable feedback from customers. At one review site, True Health Labs showed an average rating of 4.6 stars out of 5. Customers agree that while the prices can be very high, the process of getting your lab tests done through True Health Labs is simple, and their customer service is extremely responsive.
A solid option for reliable tests
Although lacking a price match guarantee, and showing much higher costs compared to other companies, True Health Labs remains a trustworthy option for lab testing services, offering a solid selection of tests. With a highly competitive return window and praise for its customer service, True Health Labs earns a solid rating in our review. However, the higher-than-average prices (especially given that the service caters to those without insurance) kept True Health Labs from ranking any higher.
4U Health is a service that specializes in at-home health testing with fast, confidential results, offering a convenient way to check your health without doctor appointments or hassles. Their self-collection lab kits, including COVID-19 and wellness tests, deliver hospital-grade results. The company's motto is to "check your own health on your own terms”. However, 4U Health is not enrolled in Medicare or any private insurance network, so their tests are not eligible for reimbursement from federal or state-funded insurance programs, making it less accessible if you rely on those programs for care.
All tests are done at home
All of the tests offered by 4U Health are mail-in. When you order a kit, it arrives at your doorstep with prepaid expedited shipping for sending your sample to a lab. After registering and approving the test, simply collect your samples at home and mail them to the lab. Step-by-step instructions on the product page guide you through the process, and digital results are available "rapidly”, though an actual timeline is not listed.
Limited number of tests
There are only 6 categories of tests listed by 4U Health, which is a much smaller selection than most of its competitors. The company primarily focuses on allergy, COVID-19, drug, STD, food allergy/sensitivity, medication response, and generalized "health” tests. There are 35 total tests to pick from, which makes browsing simple, but you may be missing out if you need more testing done in the future.
Basic details on every listing
The individual tests have a brief but helpful overview of what each test covers. However, we would like to see more step-by-step instructions for the tests as these will be administered at home. What you do see on the test listings is what the test is looking for, what type of sample you'll have to take, and how the test will be packaged.
Prices from $69 to $309
For at-home tests, the prices are pretty competitive. The cheapest test is the At Home Chlamydia Test for $69. The most expensive test offered by 4U Health is the STD Full Panel Test (Female Complete 12) - Includes Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis C, Herpes, HIV, Syphilis, & Trich + HPV, with Blood, Vaginal, Rectal & Throat Collection (yep, that's what they named it). This complete test is $309. Most tests cost around $150, though, depending on what kind of test you need. 4U Health accepts HSA and FSA for payments.
15-day cancellation
There are only two ways to be eligible for a refund from 4U Health. You can get a refund if your order hasn't shipped. You can also get one if you received your kit, but haven't registered it within 15 days (you'll have $30 per test subtracted from your refund as a cancellation fee). This is a pretty steep cancellation fee compared to other companies in our review, but since they send you the lab materials, it makes sense that they'd charge you for them as they can't be reused.
Customers love the straightforward process
Finding details about 4U Health's reputation was pretty hard. We assume the company must be pretty new as there are no dates on the website, and we couldn't find a Better Business Bureau page for 4U Health to get further details. As for third-party reviews, we had a little more success there. While there were just over 100 total reviews, the ones we found were highly positive. The average score for 4U Health was 4.7 stars out of 5. Reviews covered topics like praise for the quality of the materials sent as well as the straightforward instructions included in the lab packages.
Great for simple and discreet tests
While the number of tests you can get done via 4U Health is limited, the fact that all of them are available for testing from the comfort of your home is a huge bonus. With impressive customer reviews despite 4U Health's relatively new presence online, we feel pretty confident that this is an up-and-coming lab testing site you want to keep an eye on. While the lack of a BBB page and an expensive cancellation fee are small drawbacks, 4U Health is worth a look if you need discreet testing done for STDs or other private matters. Considering all the factors, 4U Health earns an above-average score.
Personalabs is a privately owned healthcare service offering medical testing and telehealth all in one place. Established in 2006, the company collaborates with Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp to get you localized lab testing. Dispensing with the need for mail-delivered kits, Personalabs promptly sends an email post-test purchase. This email contains a printable doctor's order from Personalabs, which is presented to a local lab technician when you go into your local lab. Currently, Personalabs has partnerships with over 2,300 testing centers.
400+ tests across the US
Personalabs has over 400 tests available across 21 categories with lab testing sites across the United States (excluding residents of New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island). Navigating through their website shows categories including allergies, autoimmune disorders, cancer screenings, liver function, hormonal assessments, pregnancy and fertility tests, STD evaluations, weight management assessments, fitness evaluations, and more.
All the info you need for each test
Each test listed on Personalabs' website is accompanied by a description delineating the purpose of the test, its target audience, any special instructions (such as fasting requirements before blood sampling), and the estimated time for result turnaround. While some tests may take between 2 to 10 business days for results, the majority offer results within a 24-48 hour window.
Prices from $41 to $1,722 per test
The prices at Personalabs aren't the most budget-friendly. While some tests, like the Hemoglobin A1c Blood Test, cost just $41, others are in the high hundreds (or thousands). You can choose between two labs when you want to buy a test: Quest or Labcorp. Usually, Labcorp is the most expensive with one test, "Allergen Profile for AZ, ID and UT (mountains), CO, NM, WY Blood Test” costing a whopping $1,722. The Quest price for the same test was $559. So, you can find a cheaper option even within the tests offered on this site, but it's still much higher pricing than we saw at some of Personalabs' competitors.
One week for a refund
In terms of refunds, you have a one-week window to cancel your lab tests post-purchase to receive a refund. At the time of cancellation, you'll see a $15 deduction from your total refund to cover the cost of the doctor's order and processing. Beyond this period, unused tests are automatically credited back to the customer's account (meaning you can only use the credit to buy something else from Personalabs), albeit with a $15 fee deducted. All tests remain valid for six months from the date of purchase.
Solid reputation for easy tests
Currently, Personalabs holds an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, and its reputation with customers is pretty solid. Among several review sites, Personalabs has an average rating of 4 stars. Customers have high praise for Personalabs' user-friendliness and the ease of ordering and taking the tests. While there are a handful of complaints about customer service, these are much fewer than the positive comments and don't offer any specifics as to why the customer service wasn't ideal.
Tons of tests, but a little pricey
While Personalabs presents an extensive test menu, the pricing may not be ideal for some customers, especially those without insurance. For this reason, Personalabs ranks a little lower than its less expensive competitors, but beyond that, it's definitely a testing site worth checking out. With 400+ tests to choose from, you'll be able to find what you need here.
Founded in 2015, Everlywell promises to create a world where you can readily access transformative lab tests to take charge of your health journey. Through their platform, Everlywell offers at-home collection tests, linking consumers with certified labs and board-certified physicians for thorough review and evidence-based insights. The company has earned attention from reputable publications such as The New York Times, Forbes, Bloomberg, Cosmopolitan, Fast Company, and Time, though this doesn't quite agree with the lack of popularity we saw with actual customers.
Mail-in tests with 5-day turnaround
The process of obtaining results from Everlywell's test kits mirrors that of other companies. After requesting and purchasing a kit, it is delivered to your doorstep with prepaid expedited shipping for sample submission to a lab. Following registration and approval of the test, all you need to do is collect your samples from home and mail them to the lab. Step-by-step instructions are provided on the product page to make the process user-friendly, and digital results are accessible within approximately 5 business days.
28 tests to choose from
Everlywell offers 28 test kits categorized under general wellness, men's health, women's health, energy and weight, sexual health, and COVID. These tests cover a spectrum of concerns including thyroid health, metabolism, HIV, heavy metals, ovarian reserve, and FIT colon cancer screening, among others, providing you with insights into a wide variety of different possible health concerns.
Strict regulations and transparency
Everlywell promises top-tier science, physician oversight, and validated collection methods for full transparency. Everlywell promises high-quality testing through labs that meet stringent standards: CLIA-certified labs, clinically validated tests, and an experienced clinical team overseeing each step. The company provides full transparency by listing their doctor partners by name and credentials too, and under the learn tab, you'll find articles about the science and how the lab tests work.
Price per test from $49 to $299
The tests at Everlywell range from extremely affordable to a little more pricey, but they still don't cost as much as going to the doctor. The cheapest test on Everlywell is the FIT Colon Cancer Screening Test for $49. The most expensive test offered on Everlywell is the $299 Food Sensitivity Comprehensive Test. All of the tests have free shipping and accept FSA and HSA payments. For those interested in trying multiple tests, Everlywell offers a monthly subscription service (Everlywell+) priced at $39. Subscribers gain access to a new test each month from a selection of 14 options, along with a 20% discount on all other tests. The subscription can be canceled at any time with no fees.
No returns for kits once they've shipped
Everlywell's refund policy only allows a 100% refund for canceled orders that haven't been shipped yet. Orders of other items (like supplements) returned within 30 days are eligible for a refund, deducting $15 to cover shipping, handling, and processing fees. However, the company does not accept returned kits, even if unused.
Customers don't trust Everlywell
While the company has an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and offers a professional website and detailed information, customer reviews raise concerns about test accuracy, delayed results, and errors. According to Trustpilot, Everlywell only has a 1.7-star average out of 5 stars. Even on the BBB, reviews show a similar score of 1.3 out of 5. Customers complain about issues with being signed up for membership despite only ordering one test or being charged for tests they didn't order. Others complained about inaccurate results and problems getting the test actually processed. In general, there aren't any positives being mentioned in these reviews.
Safer to test somewhere else
Despite some seemingly solid practices, Everlywell has customer reviews that show a clear picture of frustration and extra expenses. For this reason, Everlywell has received a low ranking, and we recommend you explore lab testing alternatives with better reputations. While there are good points for Everlywell, like their transparency, the return policy is lackluster, and the major red flag of the negative customer reviews is hard to ignore.
Labcorp on Demand is a newer company with a highly modern interface. It offers a range of lab testing for at-home tests as well as tests at one of its 2,000+ Patient Service Centers. To use the service, order your lab test online, and follow the instructions to provide your sample either at home or in person at a lab. You can access your results online through your Labcorp patient account, and you will be contacted by phone or mail for any urgent results. One of the benefits of Labcorp on Demand is its affordability.
Only 8 categories of tests
There are 8 categories of tests to choose from at Labcorp on Demand. You can expect to find tests for allergy, annual wellness, COVID-19, diabetes, fertility/sexual health, general health, immunity/infectious disease, and nutrition/ vitamin health. Across these categories, there are 61 different tests to choose from. Some of these are at-home tests where you take your own samples. Others are tests that you need to go into a lab for. However, compared to other combo sites that offer both kinds of tests, the options at Labcorp on Demand are pretty limited.
Tons of details at a glance
Labcorp on Demand does a solid job with test transparency. On each test preview, there's a full description of why you might want the test, what the test entails, and what results you can expect. On top of that, there's an easy-to-read chart that offers the basics at a glance, including what samples will be collected, whether there are age restrictions for the test, if HSA/FSA is accepted, how and where collection will be taken, how long you can expect to wait for results, and whether you can buy the test for someone else or have to buy it only for yourself. According to our research, most tests show results within 7-14 days.
Prices from $29 to $219
Prices at Labcorp on Demand are extremely reasonable. The prices all remain close to (if not under) $200 per test. The cheapest test available at Labcorp on Demand is a Complete Blood Count Test for $29. Most of the other cheap options are $40 per test. The most expensive test is the Women's Fertility Ovarian Reserve Test for $219. This is the only test over $200 on the site, making most tests affordable regardless of your insurance status.
6 months or 60 days for refunds
You can get a refund from Labcorp on Demand if you haven't used your in-person test within 6 months of purchase; however, there aren't any specifics in the refund policy about fees or cancellation penalties. For the in-home tests, you have 60 days to request a refund of your purchase amount. However, you will be charged a $29 kit fee. In one particular case, there's no recourse for refunds: if you purchased the Men's Rapid Fertility Test or Men's Rapid Fertility Test Refill Kit, Labcorp on Demand states that all sales are final.
Bad news for Labcorp's reputation
Unfortunately, Labcorp on Demand doesn't stack up well against companies with better reputations. Owned by Laboratory Corporation of America, Labcorp shows a pretty dismal score on the Better Business Bureau. At the time of our review, it had a "C-” rating. We also couldn't find any third-party reviews for Labcorp on Demand outside of the BBB, where the company held a 1.3-star average rating and had over 500 complaints filed in the last 3 years.
Poor ratings leave us disappointed
Despite the great pricing and the option to take tests at home or in a lab, Labcorp on Demand's reputation just isn't what we expect from a company handling something so sensitive. The selection of tests was pretty slim to begin with, but after seeing a "C-” rating and a 1.3-star average, we were pretty worried about the quality of service at Labcorp on Demand. Considering there are tons of lab testing services out there with top-notch reputations, it's safer to pick one of those instead. Because of its reputation and low selection, Labcorp on Demand earns one of the lowest ratings in our review.
myLab Box is a company that offers at-home tests for health concerns, including wellness, nutrition, fertility, and STDs. Open since 2014, myLab Box promises you can get tested on your own terms. Their tests are FDA-registered and CDC-listed, and they provide free telemedicine consultations if you test positive. myLab Box partners with top-rated laboratories and health experts to ensure their results meet national standards for accuracy, just like in a clinic or doctor's office. The labs they work with are certified by CAP and CLIA, and your data is protected by HIPAA-compliant web security protocols.
55 tests to choose from
There are 6 categories of tests available at myLab Box. These include COVID and flu tests, wellness tests, sexual health tests, family planning tests, women's health tests, and men's health tests. Within those categories, you can find a total of 52 tests. Some categories only have 1-3 tests available whereas other categories, like sexual health, have 19 different tests to choose from. While this isn't a lot of tests compared to other companies in our review, it does cover most of the primary concerns you can cover from home. For most tests, the results will be back to you in 2-5 days.
Informative detail for each test
There is tons of information on each test listing which helps myLab Box stand out from the pack. Not only are there multiple-paragraph descriptions of the tests that include the details of what the test is looking for, what samples will be taken, and what's included in the box you'll be sent, there is also a video tutorial on how to use the test at home along with written instructions. myLab Box strikes us as being particularly thorough and transparent about exactly what you get.
Prices from $32 to $399
The prices at myLab Box are competitive, but not the cheapest. The lowest-cost test is the At-home Ovulation test for $32. On the high end, you'll find a "Total” test which includes a 14-panel analysis for a thorough check into major STD concerns. This test costs up to $399 if you choose the kit for women.
Vague refund timeline
Unfortunately, myLab Box doesn't have a particularly customer-friendly refund policy. According to their terms and conditions page (which was the only place we could dig up any mention of a refund), myLab Box states that only orders that haven't been shipped yet are available for cancellation for a full refund. For orders that have already been sent, you'll be charged a $29 fee for the kit and shipping and handling as a penalty for canceling. While this is on par with many companies in our review, it is a little steep. There also isn't a set period for returns just before and after shipping, which is a little vague.
Questions about scams
While customer reviews for myLab Box are about average, with a 3.4-star rating from Trustpilot, the Better Business Bureau shows a different story. According to the BBB, myLab Box holds a dismal "F” rating along with a rating of 1 star out of 5. Customers complained about "fake” shipping labels and shipping taking much longer to send out than the promised 5 days. Some customers complained about not getting any results. There are a lot of questions about whether or not myLab Box is legit, which is too big of a red flag to ignore.
Not a trustworthy choice
While myLab Box seems like a good place to shop at face value, the "F” rating and 1-star reviews say otherwise. With questions about scams, missing shipments, or no results from tests, we don't feel comfortable recommending myLab Box for your lab tests. Keep your money (and your lab results) safe and check out one of our top-rated sites instead.
You might recognize the name Quest from some of our other reviews that offered lab results facilitated by Quest Diagnostics. This Quest is the same place. So, if you want to skip the back and forth and go straight to the source, Quest is the place to start. One of the best features of Quest is its frequent sales and promotions. At the time of our review, they were running a sitewide 20% off for all tests. Now, most testing for Quest is done all in the lab, so even though you're ordering tests online, you'll still have to go in to complete the tests. But, if you search for them specifically, you can find at-home tests at Quest too.
27 test categories available
There are 27 categories of tests offered by Quest. Within those categories, you'll find ways to narrow your search like "popular tests” or "Quest exclusives”, so if you're not sure where to start with your labs, you can browse a little first. If you know exactly what you want, you'll find all the major lab tests available including allergy, autoimmune, cardiovascular, COVID-19, digestive, drug and toxicology, fertility and family planning, fitness, general health, hormones, immunization, infectious disease, men's health, seasonal testing, sexual health, women's health, and more.
Well-organized and transparent test details
Each test listing on Quest provides a wealth of information. The descriptions of the tests are detailed and cover what the test is looking for, what samples will be taken, and what's included in the package you'll receive. All of the information is in dropdown boxes, so it's easier to read and you don't have to scroll through walls of text to understand each test offered by Quest. The only thing we couldn't find was an estimate of how long your results will take.
Low prices with regular sales
The prices are highly competitive at Quest. The range includes a ton of tests not offered by other companies too. The cheapest test at Quest is a Complete Blood Count test for $29. For the high end, Quest offers an "elite” Fitness Profile test that costs $500 normally but was on sale at the time of our review for $400. So, with lower-than-average prices already, you can score a great deal through Quest if you wait for a sale.
60-day cancellation policy
When you buy a test that requires an in-person visit to a Quest Diagnostics location, you have 60 days to cancel your purchase before your sample is collected. If you do decide to cancel, you'll be charged a non-refundable cancellation fee of $20 per test, which includes fees from the Prescriptive Authority Provider and Quest Diagnostics. If you don't get your sample collected within 60 days, your purchase will expire and you'll still get a refund minus the $20 fee and any applicable taxes. However, if you paid less than $20 for the test, you won't get a refund. Refunds will be issued to the same payment method used for the purchase. For home collection kits, you have 60 days to cancel your purchase and receive a refund before activating your kit, at which point you'll be charged a non-refundable cancellation fee of $45. This fee includes costs from the Prescriptive Authority Provider, collection materials, and administrative fees.
Quest is too stressful
Sadly, despite a promising beginning, Quest has an abysmal score from the Better Business Bureau and reviewers alike. On the BBB, Quest Diagnostics holds an "F” rating, and there is also a security alert on the BBB for possible data leaks from Quest. From other third-party review sites like Trustpilot, Quest Diagnostics has a 1.6-star rating out of 5. Customers complain about the service, and say that if problems arise with any area of Quest Diagnostics' business, patients can't get a hold of a representative to resolve the issues. Multiple customers complained about dealing with Quest being a "high-stress” process: the opposite of what you want when you're ordering lab work from home.
Last-place pick
While we initially had high hopes for Quest, it falls to the bottom of our list of lab testing options. With an "F” rating and indications of possible data breaches, it doesn't seem safe to trust this company with sensitive and private information like your lab results. It earns the last-place spot in large part due to the data problem, which is more concerning even than claims of scams in our other low-rated companies.
