The Best Lice Products

What is the Best Way to Get Rid of Head Lice?

No one wants to face the nuisance of having lice, but unfortunately it's a common problem, especially among kids. These pesky, tiny, six-legged insects cling to the scalp and neck to feed on human blood (rude, right?) and cause an estimated 6 - 12 million infestations yearly. Contracting lice has nothing to do with cleanliness or hygiene, but rather it spreads easily from person to person.

Lice can be picked up at school, during a sports activity, on a playground, at a friend's house, or anywhere that head-to-head contact might occur. You or your child might have lice if you're suffering from an itchy, irritated scalp. Scratching at the lice can cause infections, so it's important to take care of it as soon as possible.

Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

Lice Clinics was created to help people return to normal life as soon as possible once they've been infested with lice. In addition to their over-the-counter products that can be used at home, they have over 200 clinics in 15 countries where professional clinicians use special tools to remove head lice from children and adults in as little as one hour. This option isn't available to everyone and is a much more expensive alternative, but their online lice removal kit is readily available to use on your family.

Lice-free guarantee

The CURE Lice Treatment Kit by Lice Clinics is guaranteed to eliminate lice or you'll get your money back. The kit includes a 5.25 oz tube of liquid gel to kill lice and super lice along with an applicator and a premium metal lice comb. The gel has a fresh pear blossom scent and is meant to condition hair as it works, so it's easy to brush through at the end.

30-day return policy

The cost for the Lice Treatment Kit is $29.77 and qualifies for free shipping. In addition to their money-back guarantee, Lice Clinics allows you to send back your purchase for any reason within 30 days as long as it is in new, unused condition. So whether you change your mind about using the kit or try it out and find it doesn't work, you have a way to get your money back.

2 applications per bottle

The directions for how to use the lice remover kit are very specific. Before getting started, they recommend you gather hair clips, a bath towel, a comb, and paper towels. You'll screw the applicator tool on top of the gel and begin coating each strand of hair from the scalp to the ends. Partition and clip the hair into sections to ensure that nothing is missed. After the hair and scalp are coated, let the formula sit for 10 minutes before detangling the hair. You'll use half of the bottle on the first application, then 10 days later repeat the process again with the rest of the bottle.

Best Lice Products

No ingredient list

Since the gel can be drying to the scalp, the product is recommended for children ages 3 and up. One disappointing thing about this product is that the company doesn't provide a full list of ingredients. They do say it is non-toxic and pesticide-free, but as far as whether or not it includes parabens, phthalates, or other undesirable ingredients, we can't be sure. We wish that Lice Clinics was more transparent about what's included in their formulas.

Well-liked product and reputable company

The Better Business Bureau doesn't have a rating for Lice Clinics, unfortunately. However, customer reviews speak loudly and the company fares well in this regard. Over 6,000 people have left feedback about CURE and the vast majority say they are lice-free after following the directions. It's reported that it makes people's hair feel greasy and slippery for a while after use, but there are worse things, right? In addition, the lice clinics throughout the world have extremely high ratings, so we know that this is a reputable company.

Fantastic option

The only thing we'd like to see changed from them is a transparent ingredient list so people can be aware of allergens or potential skin sensitivities that could occur. Otherwise, this is a fantastic option for lice removal and has earned our highest rating.

Fairy Tales Review 4.5 Star Rating

Fairy Tales

4.5 Star Rating
  • Free of parabens, sulfates, harsh chemicals, and toxins
  • Safe for kids
  • High customer reviews
  • Includes mousse, conditioning spray, hair clip, and comb
  • Eligible for free shipping
  • 30-day return policy

Although their company name has little to do with the un-fantasy-like discomfort of dealing with lice, Fairy Tales actually has a highly-rated solution that may do the trick for you. The company began in 1999 at a hair salon in New York where head lice was becoming rampant and the owner wanted to find a high-quality solution to prevent and deal with the issue. The lice products became extremely popular and over the years, Fairy Tales has grown their hair care line to include a collection of sun and swim, tangle tamers, and curly hair products.

Safe for repeated use on young kids

Fairy Tales' Lice Good-Bye Survival Kit includes a 4 oz mousse, 4 oz conditioning spray, comb, and hair clip to eliminate stubborn nits. The solution is pesticide-free, natural, and safe for repeated use. It's free of parabens, sulfates, and other toxic ingredients, so parents don't need to worry about using it on their school-aged children.

One and done

One kit is intended to be enough to completely rid your hair of lice. The cost for the Lice Good-Bye Survival Kit is $29.95 and eligible for free shipping. If you purchase it and decide not to use it, you can return the kit within 30 days for a full refund. However, once you've opened it up and used any of the products, it is no longer eligible for returns.

Massage thoroughly

To use the Lice Good-Bye kit, you'll pump 10-12 "puffs" into your hands. Next, you'll liberally apply full coverage to damp hair while working it through all the layers. Using a massaging motion will help loosen the nit "glue" that keeps those buggers stuck to your hair. Let the mousse sit for 20 - 25 minutes and then thoroughly comb section by section, starting at the scalp. For best results, use the nit comb that comes with the product.

Best Lice Products

Includes a conditioning spray

The last step of your process is to apply their Rosemary Repel Conditioning Spray to prevent further outbreaks. This is a good addition to the kit that helps if there is an issue with lice at your child's school or there are repeated cases among friends. It's made of organic herbs that smell nice, so it can be used daily on hair to detangle, condition, and prevent more infestations. If you have a child with long hair, many parents would suggest having it pulled back as much as possible (in braids, a ponytail, and so on) and then applying the conditioning spray - making it less likely their hair will come in contact with someone else and repelling lice at the same time.

Safe and affordable option

Even though they don't have a Better Business Bureau rating, there are over 1,100 customers who have left reviews about the effectiveness of Fairy Tales' Lice Good-Bye Survival Kit. Overall it has a 4.5 out of 5 star rating, which is pretty good. Some positive things customers noted about the product was that you could use it on consecutive days without having to worry about chemical burns or bad smells.

Strong choice

People say they especially like the comb and if you're willing to put in the time and effort to go through all of the hair with it, you can get the results you want with Lice Good-Bye. There were a few people who claimed it didn't work, but you can always chalk a few complaints up to user error or an especially difficult hair type that needed a different kind of product. Overall, we like what we see from Fairy Tales and feel that this is both a safe and affordable option for people dealing with lice.

Rid Review 4 Star Rating

Rid

4 Star Rating
  • "A+" Better Business Bureau rating
  • Alcohol-free
  • Paraben-free and silicone-free
  • 60-day satisfaction guarantee
  • Qualifies for free shipping

Rid sells a line of products that are tough on lice and help eliminate and prevent it quickly. They are a subsidiary of the well-known pharmaceutical company, Bayer. Their solutions are safe for kids over the age of 2 as well as adults. Rid's shampoo has been on the market for over 10 years and is formulated to kill head, pubic, and body lice all at all its stages.

Works best with other Rid products

The lice-killing shampoo comes in an 8 oz bottle and also includes 2 lice combs. The cost for the product is $18.`16 and qualifies for free shipping. Rid touts that this is an extremely easy to use formula to use and they say that it works most effectively if used in conjunction with all their other products including their comb-out spray, and home, bed bug, and dust mite spray.

2 step process

There are detailed directions for how to use Rid's lice killing shampoo that include starting out with a magnifying glass to check each household member for lice and nits. For anyone affected, the shampoo should be applied to dry hair, starting behind the ears and back of the neck. The shampoo should sit on your hair for 10 minutes, but no longer. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and then towel dry before combing out tangles. The hair should remain damp while you use the nit comb to go through all sections of hair and remove nits. All steps must be repeated for a second application 7-10 days after the first.

Quantity based on hair length

Something we appreciate about Rid is that they give information about how much of their product you might expect to use. For people with short hair, it will take between 2 and 4 oz for both applications, 4-6 oz for people with medium hair, and 6-8 oz if you have long hair. You'll definitely need multiple bottles if you're dealing with more than one member of the household for lice.

Best Lice Products

Transparent ingredients

Rid is transparent with their ingredient list. The shampoo is made of piperonyl butoxide (4%), pyrethrum extract, amino methyl propanol, fragrance, PEG 25 hydrogenated castor oil, polyquaternium 10, purified water, and SD alcohol. The product is paraben-free, alcohol-free, and silicone-free,

Satisfaction guarantee

Rid's products are non-returnable unless they arrive damaged or defective. However, their parent company Bayer, has a 60-day guarantee that allows customers to get a refund if they are unsatisfied with their products for any reason. To qualify, customers need to submit a guarantee request through Bayer's website within 60 days of purchase.

A good bet

Rid does not have a rating from the Better Business Bureau, but Bayer carries a solid "A+" . The lice-killing shampoo has over 900 reviews from customers, which is less than some competing products, but still a reliable number to go off of. Some people were annoyed that Rid expires after 6 months of purchase, but this shouldn't be a problem if you are using it right away. Others say Rid works fabulously and even leaves hair in excellent condition. This isn't an "all-natural" product, so if that's something you're looking for, then Rid won't be right for you. But if you're just looking for a safe and aggressive product to get rid of lice once and for all, Rid's shampoo seems like a solid bet with a good price tag.

Head Hunters Review 4 Star Rating

Head Hunters

4 Star Rating
  • Eliminate lice at all stages
  • 30-day return policy
  • Conditioning formula
  • Natural ingredients
  • Free standard shipping

Head Hunters is not a company out looking to recruit you for a job like it may sound, but rather self-proclaimed "Head Lice Specialists." Through rigorous testing on live lice, the company has developed a salon-quality product line to repel and wipe out lice. Depending on your situation and the tools you need, Head Hunters has 8 different kits to get the job done.

Hair shampoo and comb combo

A popular kit offered through Head Hunters is their "Pro-Lice Treatment Kit" for $24.95 with free standard shipping (we're trying to overlook that the name of this product makes it sound like it works in support of the lice since we know this isn't the case). It's meant to be a professional lice-killing kit and contains one 12 oz bottle of WipeOut, a natural product, and a comb that is designed to remove deceased lice and their nits through its steel, micro-grooved teeth.

Safe, but penetrating formula

WipeOut is formulated with a blend of essential oils and other natural ingredients that penetrate and kill all strains of lice from the inside out without using chemicals. The product coats the lice and penetrates the exoskeleton which then causes a physical reaction that kills the insect within minutes. With the use of the WipeOut comb, you'll be able to remove the nits and dead lice one by one until they are gone completely. It isn't specified whether or not WipeOut is meant to be used on children, but in their product description it mentions a lot about children, so from this we assume that this formula was created to be sensitive and safe for their skin.

Use on dry hair

Unlike most other products, WipeOut is meant to be used on dry hair. Head Hunters says this is because lice are able to sense water in their environment, so they shut their bodies down as a defense mechanism. This closes their orifices and makes it harder for lice products to penetrate them. So, to apply WipeOut, you'll saturate the entire head of dry hair with the product and focus on coating the scalp.

Best Lice Products

Gentle and fresh

After massaging it thoroughly into the scalp, you'll let it sit for 20 minutes. From here, you can shampoo and condition your hair if you want before detangling your hair. With the lice comb, you'll remove any lice remnants or nit casings. WipeOut is gentle enough that it can be used repeatedly if needed. Another bonus of using Head Hunters' products is that their products have a sweet smell, so you feel fresh after using them.

Refunds offered for unused products

Head Hunters will let you return your lice removal kit within 30 days of purchase, but not if it has been used. Unfortunately, you aren't able to get your money back if the product doesn't work for you since the only way to qualify for a refund is if you send back your product in the same condition you received it.

Not a bad option

Head Hunters isn't accredited or rated by the Better Business Bureau and doesn't have customer reviews on their website. However, after doing some digging we found that they have hundreds of comments elsewhere about the effectiveness of their product. People mostly say this product is a lifesaver and works well. After trying a lot of other products, many customers are relieved to find WipeOut and have it take care of their lice. We wish they had a more generous return policy or satisfaction guarantee, but it's still a great option.

Liceadex Review 3.5 Star Rating

Liceadex

3.5 Star Rating
  • "A+" Better Business Bureau rating
  • Same-day shipping
  • 100% money back guarantee
  • Free shipping on orders over $100

Liceadex is an advanced lice product sold by Q-Based Solutions, an online marketplace that specializes in selling skin care products to help fight various skin ailments. Aside from lice products, Q-Based Solutions has an inventory of formulas to deal with athlete's foot, eczema, nail fungus, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, skin parasites, and more.

One lice product in 3 sizes

Q-Based Solutions' website is functional and practical, but not very modern or appealing. This isn't a big deal, as long as they sell high-quality products, but it's one of the first things we noticed. There are only 3 lice products available on their site. Technically, they're all the same product, but you can purchase them in different quantities depending on your situation.

Works on household items

Liceadex, Q-Based Solutions' lice product is a home and bedding spray. You can purchase it in an 8 oz ($9.95), 32 oz ($19.95), or 128 oz ($44.95) bottle. Q-Based Solutions doesn't have anything to get rid of the actual lice on your head or scalp, but it is also important to clean bedding and other household items, so this is where Liceadex comes in handy. It comes in a spray bottle to use on clothing, bedding, furniture, and in your car and it is meant to work as soon as it is sprayed to combat lice and nits.

Simple formula

The formula for Liceadex is environmentally friendly and non-toxic. The ingredients include sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium chloride, peppermint oil, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, and water. They don't list whether or not this is safe for all ages, but based on the ingredients, it appears as if it can be used without concern.

Best Lice Products

Money-back guarantee

If you make a diligent effort to use Liceadex as directed while fighting lice and you feel that it does not live up to your expectations, Q-Based Solutions offers a 30-day money back guarantee. In order to qualify for a refund, you'll need to call customer service and discuss the situation within the first 7 days of use.

Effective and easy to use

Q-Based Solutions has an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, but there are few customer reviews about them. They do allow reviews on all their products, which is great, but what we found for Liceadex wasn't quite as reliable as we'd hoped. Although positive, the most recent reviews are from 2007, which is nearly irrelevant at this point.

Good option

Luckily we were able to find product reviews elsewhere after doing some more research - and found that Liceadex is a reliable product that's extremely easy to use. We wish there were also options from Q-Based Solutions for dealing with lice on your head, but we are happy to find a good option for cleaning personal items as well.

Clearlice Review 3 Star Rating

Clearlice

3 Star Rating
  • Homeopathic formula
  • Safe for kids
  • Pesticide-free
  • Made in the USA
  • 24-hour quick-reaction time

ClearLice was founded 16 years ago and one of their main products is a shampoo geared toward children and teens that breaks open the shells of lice and nits to reduce their lifespan. Their formula is non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and pH balanced to be safe for kids and gentle yet effective. The company has an impressive inventory of products all geared toward both preventing and eliminating lice. This includes a household spray, laundry additive, lice repel shampoo and conditioner, as well as the shampoo and conditioner.

Works in 24 hours

The big selling point for ClearLice's shampoo is that it is meant to eliminate head lice and nits in 24 hours or less. The application process is done in 4 simple, yet time-consuming steps:

  1. Apply the shampoo. Users should wait 40 minutes, wearing a cap over the product, and then rinse with warm water.
  2. Repeat step one. This time, wait just 20 minutes with the cap over the hair.
  3. Apply the conditioner. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes.
  4. Comb out lice and eggs in all directions.

Other necessities sold separately

The cost for ClearLice shampoo is $19.97. There is a coupon on the site for 10% off and it also qualifies for free shipping. Unfortunately, it does not appear that ClearLice includes the conditioner, which seems to be an important part of the process. In addition, you'll need to purchase a nit comb and cap separately, so keep all this in mind when you're considering the overall cost for your household.

Usage based on hair type

Each bottle of ClearLice comes in an 8 oz quantity. The company says that hair longer than the shoulder blades or really thick hair will probably use up the whole bottle. Short or thin hair will probably use about 4 oz of it, and for people with buzz cuts, you'll likely only require 2 oz. The formula is made with a fresh peppermint scent and other botanical essential oils, so customers are happy when they find that this solution doesn't leave their scalp or hair smelling weird.

Best Lice Products

Non-returnable

If you need to return ClearLice, you're out of luck. It's non-returnable unless it arrives damaged or defective. Because of this, it's probably best to start out with fewer bottles and give it a little test before diving into enough for multiple applications on all the heads of your family. It's quite an affordable product, but not worth the waste if you don't find success after using it.

Mixed reviews

Overall, ClearLice is a highly-rated formula. Comments from parents about kids who have repeatedly been exposed to lice and have had success with this product are reassuring. However, we noticed quite a few people saying that although it did kill some lice, it took a lot more effort and time to also kill nits. Some people had to order this product multiple times and painstakingly nitpick after each use to get its full effect. So be warned that the "gets rid of lice in 24-hours" hype may not be completely accurate.

Worth looking into

We wish this company had a Better Business Bureau rating, but still feel like it could be an inexpensive and effective option for many people. It's not our first choice, but it's worth looking into to see if it's the right solution for your situation.

Lice Logic Review 3 Star Rating

Lice Logic

3 Star Rating
  • Pesticide Free
  • Biodegradable
  • Paraben and phthalate-free
  • Made in the USA
  • No artificial scents
  • Safe for ages 2+

LiceLogic was created by a mom after a schoolyard lice outbreak infested her child's classroom. The goal was to make a non-toxic alternative to harsh formulas that were currently on the market. LiceLogic aims to be pet parent-approved and kid-friendly. The products from LiceLogic are all aimed at dealing with and preventing lice, including a shampoo, mousse, hair nit spray, all purpose household lice spray, lice comb, and prevention sprays. Their scents you can choose from are rosemary mint, peppermint, and lavender. LiceLogic boasts that they don't use any artificial fragrances in their products and they're all paraben- and phthalate-free.

Safe for ages 2+

LiceLogic's Clear and Free shampoo comes in an 8 oz bottle for $29.95 (qualifies for free shipping). It's approved for children over the age of 2 since it contains no pesticides and is gentle on the hair and scalp. The formula is plant-based and proven to kill lice and nits on contact. This is an effective prevention option even if you suspect that you or your child has been exposed to lice.

Use repeatedly until you're lice-free

There is no timeframe for which LiceLogic claims their product will kill all lice and nits. However, they say that the shampoo is safe for daily use and includes up to 16 uses per bottle, so we assume you may need to use this product quite a few times. The company says to use the shampoo until the lice infestation is completely gone and even up to 7 or 10 days after. If you have thick or long hair, it's likely that you'll need a couple of bottles of Clear and Free.

Simple, but time consuming

The application process for Clear and Free shampoo isn't difficult, but it does take a bit of time. First, you'll use the shampoo by massaging it all through your hair and scalp and let it sit for 15 minutes. Next, you'll comb through your hair to ensure full coverage and let it sit another 15 minutes. Lastly, it's suggested that you comb in all four directions and rinse hair thoroughly. Repeat as necessary.

Best Lice Products

Returns on new, unused shampoo

LiceLogic doesn't provide a guarantee on their shampoo, so the only reason you'll be able to return it for a refund is if it's in new, unused condition.

Most people are pleased

For the most part, we were glad to see that people felt that Clear and Free shampoo worked for them. However, reviews were slightly more mixed than we've seen from competing products. Some people said that even after following the directions rigidly for over a week, they were still finding lice. Others said after repeated use they were clear of lice and highly recommended the product. We wish there was at least a Better Business Bureau rating for the company and more solidly reassuring customer feedback.

How long will it take?

The main thing we weren't excited about with LiceLogic was that it seems like you have to use their product over and over again until it works. Waiting days or weeks to be lice-free seems like a long time. We wish they provided some sort of timeframe or guarantee for when customers can expect to be done using it. Because of this, we recommend using a higher-rated product before trying out LiceLogic's Clear and Free shampoo or other products.

Nix Review 3 Star Rating

Nix

3 Star Rating
  • Pesticide-free, non-toxic
  • Easy instructions
  • High customer ratings
  • Eligible for free shipping

Nix is a 2-in-1 lice product to kill head lice and eggs as well as super lice. Included in their line of products is a shampoo, egg removal comb, lice killing creme rinse, and a lice and bed bug killing spray for home use, bedding, and furniture. We would like to see some background information about Nix, but unfortunately they don't provide much about themselves as far as when they were established, how they came to be, or what their overall goals are as a company.

Ultra solution

There are three main options for purchasing Nix's lice-removal products. The first is to buy their 3.4 fl oz bottle Nix Ultra solution that comes with a professional nit comb for $17.44. To use, customers ages 2 and older should cover their dry head of hair and scalp in the solution and let it sit for 10 minutes. Next, they should wash their hair with regular shampoo (avoid conditioner), and then towel dry. The third step is to part hair into four sections and use the included lice removal comb to carefully comb through all of the hair, wiping dead lice onto a clean tissue or dry paper towel. After 7 days, hair should be rechecked and steps 1-3 need to be repeated if any lice are still present.

Avoid if allergic to silicone

The only two ingredients listed for Nix's Ultra product are dimethicone and C12-20 isoparaffin. This is essentially mineral oil and silicone used to smother lice, so it's recommended that if customers have sensitivities to either of those things, Nix Ultra should be avoided.

Use the shampoo if you prefer

Another option from Nix is their Ultra shampoo that comes in a 4 oz bottle with a lice removal comb for $18.88. This can be used on children ages 1 and up. There aren't a lot of details about the shampoo and it appears that the instructions for use are exactly the same as the application process for the Ultra solution. The only difference here is that you don't need to use another shampoo after you rinse out Nix. The ingredients here are fragrance, laureth 4, mineral oil, MIPA laureth, sulfate, and propylene glycol.

Best Lice Products

Ultra solution and home protection spray combo

Last but not least, you could purchase Nix's lice removal kit that includes the Ultra solution, nit comb, and a 5 fl oz lice killing spray to use around your home. The cost for this is $22.22. The lice killing spray is effective on bedding and furniture and lasts up to 4 weeks. It's not safe for use on humans, even though its ingredients closely resemble the Ultra solution that you can use on your head. The formula consists of permethrin, dimethicone, and mineral oil.

Non-returnable

Nix is not eligible for returns and does not include a satisfaction guarantee. Your only hope of getting your money back after you've purchased a product from them is if it arrives damaged or defective. Once you decide to buy a Nix product, you're stuck with it whether it works for you or not.

Which product is best?

As far as the Nix shampoo and solution go, we don't feel like the company has done a good job of helping customers understand why one or the other is a better option. What's the difference? How do we decide which one will be more effective? If you want to be on the safe side, you can't go wrong using both of them together, but it doesn't seem necessary. We also wish Nix would give a more thorough explanation of how their product works to kill lice and how far a bottle goes. If you have long or thick hair, it seems like you might need more than one bottle, but they don't give any information about this.

High customer ratings

The only reassurance we really have with Nix is that their customer reviews are quite high. They have over 5,600 people who have left feedback about their experience using the formulas and a lot of people say this is the only thing that works for them. This could be since Nix is not a homeopathic remedy and is a little more aggressive on the lice. For some people this is a relief, while others want to stick with more natural ingredients on themselves and their children. The Better Business Bureau does not have a rating for Nix, but we trust that this is a reputable and reliable product if you aren't worried about allergic reactions or sensitivities to the ingredients.

Compare the Best Reviews

Continued from above...

Luckily, head lice is generally not dangerous and doesn't spread diseases, but it is extremely annoying and can take quite a bit of effort to get rid of. It will likely take at least a few days to eliminate the lice completely.

Aside from doing a deep clean of your house, bedding, towels, stuffed animals, clothing, and anything else that comes in contact with the lice, there are quite a few proven products that can be purchased over-the-counter to gently and effectively kick those nasty bugs to the curb. Although some people try to use natural remedies like vinegar, mayonnaise, or olive oil, they aren't as strong as products engineered to fight lice, and you may end up dealing with more lice nits (white lice eggs that attach to your hair) that hatch later on.

For best results, purchase a highly-rated product and apply it based on the included directions. Check your hair every 8-12 hours to monitor the reduction of active lice. You may need to switch products if it doesn't seem to be working. Expect to use multiple applications of the lice product to make sure that any newly-hatched lice are killed before they create a re-infestation that makes you have to restart the whole process. Try to be patient and know that although it may take some time, you can eliminate lice completely and get back to your normal routine.

There are many companies that sell lice products, and we have highlighted the most important criteria to help you decide which one to use:

  • Effectiveness: What do customers say about the effectiveness of the lice product? How many applications are recommended before it begins to work? Is the process easy to understand and manageable? Or is it time-consuming and complicated?
  • Price: Dealing with the discomfort of lice would make a person willing to spend nearly any amount of money to get rid of it. However, make sure that what you're buying is reasonable compared to competing products. Keep in mind you may need to deal with multiple family members and do a few rounds of application, so you might need to purchase a few of the products.
  • Guarantee: What if you follow all the directions and the lice product doesn't work? Are you able to get your money back if you're unsatisfied with the results?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best places to purchase lice products online. We hope this information helps you find the most effective solution to eliminate lice from your life quickly and completely.

Lice Product FAQ

Head lice are parasites that are most commonly found on the scalp, but you can also find them in a person's eyebrows and eyelashes. They feed on human blood (yuck!) but they do not spread disease.
Wrong! Head lice actually prefer nice, clean hair because it's easier for them to move through and lay their eggs. Lice move by crawling, not jumping or flying, so they spread by direct contact: from head-to-head, most often, and sometimes by contact through shared articles of clothing and combs/brushes. Hygiene and cleanliness are not a factor in the spread of head lice.
The first sign is usually an itchy head: the skin reacts to the louse bites and makes people scratch. People with lice might also feel a tickling sensation of something moving in their hair, close to the scalp, especially at night. You can also spot eggs attached to the hair strands, immature lice in nymph form, or fully-grown lice. (Gross, we know.)
Take a deep breath and prepare yourself for a long process. While you may want to run to the drugstore and buy the first product you find on the shelf, take the time to decide how you want to tackle the problem: over-the-counter products, a prescription from your doctor, or even an in-person "lice clinic" . Whichever route you go, it's going to take some time to completely eliminate the lice.
Unfortunately, yes, that's what the CDC recommends. You can take your chances and just treat the person with a detected lice infestation, but the smartest bet is to take care of everyone at the same time.
Choose a treatment product to kill the hatched insects and make sure to buy more than enough for the people in your household (consider long hair vs. short when determining quantity). The medication will probably come with a lice comb (yes, that's where the phrase "go over it with a fine-toothed comb" comes from!): you'll work the medicine through the hair and comb out the bugs. Be sure to flush the living bugs down the toilet! Unfortunately, you may have to repeat the process in 7-9 days, because lice treatments don't kill and remove any eggs laid by the lice you removed.
Yes. Many people don't like to use lice treatments based on pyrethrins or permethrin (or any other insecticide), and fortunately there are some effective all-natural products for getting rid of lice. Make sure to follow all of the instructions carefully, no matter what lice treatment you choose, especially when it comes to the critical 7-9 day period after the first application: you must get rid of any newly-hatched lice before they can lay eggs!
