Wondering if The Home Depot lives up to its "doers get more done" motto? Well, wonder no more. With an inventory boasting over 110,000 lighting options and a stellar reputation, Home Depot is your go-to for any projects involving light fixtures, offering a straightforward website, convenient delivery and in-store pickup options to make your shopping experience about as easy as it gets.
Affordable fixtures under $10
Because Home Depot has, well, everything (!), it can be tricky to find the absolute lowest-priced light fixtures on offer while sifting through accessories and replacement parts (but thanks, Home Depot, for reminding us that we need a new clear jar for our back porch light). Still, we found the cute-yet-affordable Timeless Home Nadia 1-Light Pendant in Honey Gold for just $8.75, proving that a new lighting look doesn't have to break the bank.
Some higher-end styles on offer
But, maybe you've got a bank that could use a little breaking (or you're picturing a once-in-a-lifetime upgrade to your decor). You're not going to see anything to rival the $100,000+ chandeliers we found with some of Home Depot's competitors who specialize in lighting, but there are still some "wow” light fixtures here for a dramatic look. The most expensive design was the Noely 60-Light Chrome Crystal Chandelier (oddly, with no bulbs included... ) for a "mere” $18,326.88, with several other chandeliers by well-known brands Crystorama, Savoy House, and Titan Lighting in the $10K-and-up range. (There was also a Milwaukee Handheld Core Drill Kit and Tower Light/Charger in the mix, but that's what you get if you browse all lighting instead of choosing a narrower category before you start shopping!)
Filters get you there quicker
Tackling such a vast selection is made easier with handy filters, allowing you to narrow down your options by style, brand, or availability for quick pickup or free two-day delivery. Whether you have a specific design in mind or need something in stock for immediate purchase, these filters help you find the perfect fit for your decor.
Not lacking in details
Each light fixture's listing, even just what you see in the results list, is a fantastic source of information, providing images, color options, availability for pickup, customer ratings, and more. Clicking on a fixture reveals detailed product descriptions and technical specifications, ensuring you have all the information needed to make an informed decision. And, most fixtures can be gotten via free in-store pickup or free shipping: just check the details in the description.
Can connect you with installation pros
If you need professional help with installation, Home Depot has you covered. Simply select "Add Pro Referral" during checkout, and you'll be connected with 1-5 local partners to assist with your installation needs. While some of Home Depot's competitors make you pay for installation during checkout (ostensibly so that they can take a cut of the money), you won't have to do that here because you'll work out the fees separately from The Home Depot.
Customer-friendly and great reputation
One of Home Depot's standout features is its exceptional return policy, offering a 90-day timeframe and covering return shipping costs on most items. Also, with an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau and a loyal customer base, Home Depot's stellar reputation speaks for itself. But, of course, you can also benefit from the hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of reviews on individual light fixtures, if you really want to know which ones have lived up to expectations.
Still #1 for light fixtures
When it comes to light fixtures, starting at Home Depot is a no-brainer. With a vast selection, options for getting professional installation, and convenient pickup and return options, this retailer earns our highest recommendation. So, why wait? Get started on your lighting projects today and experience the difference The Home Depot makes.
Lowe's stands as the ultimate haven for home improvement enthusiasts, with a legacy dating back many decades. With a sprawling selection ranging from power tools to decor, Lowe's caters to both seasoned DIYers and novices alike, providing unparalleled convenience and expertise.
Over 50,000 light fixtures on offer
Lowe's has over 50,000 light fixtures to choose from. One look at any given category and you're likely to find anywhere from 5,000-15,000 choices. On the low end of the price scale, you might see fixtures like a utilitarian outdoor light for $9.82, Eglo's 3-Light Transitional Pendant Light for $18.01, and traditional vanity lights for $14.27. For true bargain-hunters (or maybe those who are flipping houses on a tight budget), Lowe's is an excellent place to buy light fixtures. The highest-end light fixtures at Lowe's tend to be chandeliers made by Eurofase and Crystorama. There's nothing over $13,000, but we were still surprised to see such luxury-type fixtures at this home improvement superstore.
Useful filters and in-store pickup options
Shopping for what you need at Lowe's is easy-breezy, as you might already be aware. Looking for options you can buy online and pick up right away? No problem, just make sure that your preferred brick-and-mortar location is featured at the top of the site (it'll detect where you're browsing from and fill in the store it thinks is the best match). If not, just click on it to set it to the Lowe's you'd rather visit. And, with plenty of filters to narrow down the light fixtures by your preferred use, color, price range, and more, you won't get stuck browsing tens of thousands of products to find your ideal lighting.
Take advantage of customer reviews on individual light fixtures
One of the best ways to find a great fixture is by using the customer reviews. Lowe's has millions of customers every year, so why not benefit from their experience with the items you're considering? For example, one of the most reviewed light fixtures we found was the Fallsbrook 5-Light Brushed Nickel Traditional Dry Rated Chandelier by Product Source, priced at $56.97. At the time of our visit, 537 people had left ratings for this basic chandelier, averaging 4.6 out of 5 stars. And, there's no holding back here: their shoppers tell you their honest opinion (sometimes with photos to back them up). That's a plus over some retailers we reviewed that had little to no feedback on the light fixtures in their inventory.
Installation available for a fee
And, one final advantage for going with Lowe's: the ability to get professional installation on your light fixtures. If this is a must-have for your purchase, be sure to scroll down on the main Lighting page to where it says, "We can install your lighting and ceiling fans.” Click on the "Shop Now” link and it'll take you to all of the options that have that perk. Once you've chosen the fixture(s?) you need, be sure to add the installation option during the checkout process. Just don't flinch when you realize you may be paying more for the install than for the fixture itself (the most popular lighted ceiling fan on Lowe's install-available list was only $59.98, but the installation fee was $195 per fan).
90-day returns, free shipping on $45+
Maybe we're not done telling you about the perks Lowe's offers after all. We appreciate the 90-day return policy, especially when some rivals only give you 30 days and then charge a restocking fee to boot. You'll also get free delivery on most orders of $45 and up, assuming you don't go for free in-store pickup of your light fixtures.
"A+” from the BBB
Reputation is no issue for Lowe's. It won't shock anyone to learn that the Better Business Bureau gives this home improvement megastore an "A+” rating and accreditation. True, some shoppers have had issues with particular store employees, but there's nothing we find troublesome or that should keep you from shopping at Lowe's for light fixtures (and anything else you might need for your next home project).
One of your best options for light fixtures
We give Lowe's one of our highest rankings among stores offering light fixtures. You've got more than enough styles and price points to choose from, many of which come with the option to pay for installation if you need it. The return window is generous, many fixtures have tons of reviews, and it's easy to click "add to cart” on any other supplies you might need for a one-stop-shop experience. Lowe's is a winner.
With a mission centered on the idea that the right lighting transforms a house into a home, Lamps Plus has been illuminating spaces for over forty years. While primarily known in the western United States for its physical stores, the retailer's online platform offers anyone access to its fantastic array of light fixtures, along with top-notch selection, quality, and service.
Website makes it easy to find the right light fixtures
Navigating through Lamps Plus's website, from the homepage to specific product pages, is a breeze thanks to its user-friendly design. Whether you're seeking chandeliers, ceiling lights, wall lights, outdoor lights, or ceiling fans, the intuitive layout delivers a stress-free shopping experience. With over 60,000 light fixtures available, you should utilize the site's handy filters to streamline your search based on shape, finish, size, price, style, and color.
Helpful customer ratings
Looking for a specific brand or browsing for items with the highest customer ratings or current discounts? Lamps Plus has you covered with those additional filter options and more. And, those customer ratings are a great way to see which fixtures have been favorites (and which ones were duds). In that same part of each fixture's product info, you can also check out the Q&A section: see if anyone else has wondered about the weight of that big chandelier or the clearance needed for those ceiling fans.
Wide price spectrum
How about pricing? Lamps Plus can meet the strictest and most lavish budgets alike. We found fixtures as low as $21.25 for a Chip 5” LED Flush Mount, and as high as $101,100 for Constellation's Cosmic Cube with 2,700-3,700 LED lights. Your shipping will be free if your order is at least $49.
Free consultations with lighting experts
With so many options, you could get overwhelmed quickly; fortunately, you can get help from a lighting expert anytime. This complimentary expert advice can even give you design inspiration to totally transform your space or your entire home. Just reach out through the link on the site or via Lamps Plus' toll-free number to set up your consultation.
60-day return window
With respect to returns, Lamps Plus gives you 60 days to send back your light fixtures, which is more generous than many rival retailers. However, the fine print says that unless you're buying outdoor lighting or ceiling fans, the return shipping costs are on you. That would be a lucky time to live within driving distance of a Lamps Plus brick-and-mortar store.
Excellent track record for customer satisfaction
Customers demonstrate unwavering loyalty to Lamps Plus, a testament to its impeccable standing in the industry. With accreditation and an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, the retailer has earned the trust of its clientele. An impressive 96% of customers award the store a 4- or 5-star rating, with many returning time and again for their lighting needs. Praised for its extensive selection of on-trend designs readily available for shipping, Lamps Plus is known for its reliability in fulfilling orders promptly and efficiently.
Top choice if installation isn't a factor
As long as you don't need any help with installation, Lamps Plus could be your new favorite store for light fixtures. We're really big fans of the free consultations (especially for those of us who definitely don't have an eye for design...), and most Lamps Plus customers are enthusiastic about the entire experience. Lamps Plus has a terrific selection of light fixtures and its attentive customer service department.
Looking to check off all the items on your home improvement shopping list in one go, without ever leaving your favorite spot on the sofa? Wayfair for the win. With a massive online store boasting millions of items, including an impressive selection of more than 75,000 light fixtures, you're sure to find what you need.
Numerous filters will save you time
To get started on your hunt for the right light fixtures, you'll need to choose a category. This could be Ceiling Lights, Outdoor Lights, or Ceiling Fans, for example. From there, you can either choose a subcategory, like Pendant Lighting or Chandeliers, or click on Shop All to see everything on offer. Wayfair's filters will be your lifesaver, so that you don't have to randomly browse all 75,000 fixtures at once. You've got the usual filters like design, finish, and style, but Wayfair takes it oh-so-much-further to help you get right to what you want. Maybe you need light fixtures that are rated for damp/wet locations (hello, screened-in porches and pool patios). There's a filter for that. Ditto that for glass type, adjustability, commercial use, and nearly two dozen other ways to tell Wayfair what to show you.
Stunning high-end light fixtures if you're interested
Let's take a look at some of the most fantastic and fabulous light fixtures Wayfair carries. When browsing Wayfair's Ceiling Lights category, for example, prepare to be amazed by the range of options, from the extravagant to the everyday. Take, for instance, the 22-Light Dimmable Empire Chandelier by David Michael, discounted to just over $150,000 from its retail price of $226,807. Although it was on backorder at the time of our most recent visit to Wayfair, this statement piece is a hefty investment with 24K gold plating and Swarovski crystal. For those seeking something with more modern styling and yet slightly more budget-friendly, the Isotope LED Modern Linear Chandelier by 2nd Ave Lighting was "only” $64,000: a significant savings over the original price of $108,000. Fortunately, this chandelier was in stock and ready to ship, though there were only six left in stock.
Some fixtures have thousands of shopper reviews
Beyond the high-end options, Wayfair boasts a plethora of everyday fixtures to suit any taste and budget. And, we love how easy this store makes it to see which ones come in multiple colors, are available with free shipping and/or that can be delivered within two days. Also, because millions shop at Wayfair every year, many light fixtures have a ton of customer reviews: use those to your advantage to see which products are a hit and which ones you should pass by. As an example, the Lani Glass Semi Flush Mount by Birch Lane, with a starting price of an affordable $55, had over 6,200 customer ratings during our recent visit to Wayfair. With an average of 4.7 out of 5 stars and reviews with photos showing the fixture installed in shoppers' homes, this product would be an easy "yes” if it fits your taste.
30-day returns, free shipping on $35+
How about shipping and returns? Wayfair's return policy is just average: you'll have 30 days to make the call on whether or not you're keeping the light fixture, and it's up to you to pay for the return shipping fees. But, at least you'll get free shipping on the delivery side of things, as long as your order is at least $35 (and most light fixtures are).
Installation help now available
One surprise in this most recent evaluation of Wayfair: the retailer now offers to help you find a professional to take care of the installation of your light fixture. It's through a partnership with Angi, and you'll find those options when you get to the checkout stage. Figure a cost in the neighborhood of $130+ for a single fixture install, and there will likely be a surcharge if the ceiling height is over 11 feet.
Lots of complaints, but responses are appropriate
We don't overlook the fact that Wayfair has received a LOT of complaints. From products that don't arrive when expected to problems getting someone at Wayfair to care about items that aren't in good condition right out of the box, there's no shortage of ways that some have been disappointed by the shopping experience here. And yet, the Better Business Bureau still gives Wayfair a perfect "A+” rating and accreditation, so you can trust that across millions and millions of online orders, the company is doing a perfectly solid job of responding to problems as they arise.
Great selection is worth browsing
Wayfair's extensive selection and user-friendly platform make it a convenient choice for purchasing light fixtures. While Wayfair may not specialize in home improvement or lighting, the competitive pricing, abundant inventory, and newly-added options for installation help have earned this retailer a praiseworthy rating.
Ever since it kicked off its journey in 2000, Bellacor has been leading the charge in the world of home furnishings and lighting, adding that special touch to your living space. With a penchant for hand-picking top-notch products from a variety of designer brands, Bellacor makes sure your home or office decor stands out from the crowd, offering a vibe that's uniquely yours.
Fantastic range of designs and prices
To get a feel for what a light fixture store has to offer, we like looking at the least and most expensive options in the inventory. At the time of our most recent visit to Bellacor's online store, the most affordable light fixture was an open-box sale on the Point Polished Chrome LED Mini Pendant. Given the fixture's original price of $138, paying just $7.97 was an absolute steal. At the top end of Bellacor's light fixtures, we found many of the same chandeliers by SONNEMAN, Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting, and Schonbek that were on Bellacor's rivals' lists as well, at a maximum price of just under $50K. But, in the $10,000+ selection, Bellacor featured several brands we didn't see elsewhere, like the Facet Polished Brass 12-Light Pendant by Innermost ($15,450) and Varaluz' Barcelona Transcend Silver 18-Light Chandelier ($13,619). You've got more than 60,000 light fixtures to choose from at Bellacor, even if you're not searching for something super-bargain or ultra-bougie.
Find inspo right on the homepage
Need ideas? Dive into the Light Fixtures section of the Bellacor homepage to get your creative juices flowing. Explore different departments like Ceiling, Wall, or Fans to kickstart your search. And while we're not sure how they decide which products to put in the "Just For You” section (especially before we even started browsing), the Lighting Styles option is where it's at, especially if you're not quite sure what a "Contemporary Modern" or "Farmhouse" light fixture looks like.
Stay mindful of delivery times
Once you've got your eye on a few favorites, make use of the handy filters to narrow down your choices. An important one is the "Lead Time" filter: some fixtures may take a bit longer to ship, so if time is of the essence, opt for those with shorter lead times to avoid any wait time woes.
Score savings with a simple sign-up
If you're all about snagging a deal on your next light fixture purchase, just hop on over to the bottom of the Bellacor website and drop your email address in the box. While there are a few exclusions to keep in mind, you could potentially save a cool 20% on your next full-price buy, making it a sweet deal for savvy shoppers (like you!). And, as long as your order is over $79, your light fixtures will ship for free, barring any freight surcharges on heavier items (large chandeliers).
Price match guarantee
Bellacor's got your back with their customer-friendly policies, like a price match guarantee and a 30-day return policy. Just be sure to double-check the fine print on return shipping fees and restocking fees. Digging around a bit, we found that shoppers should expect a 25% restocking fee on any items over $2,500, so you'll want to be reasonably sure that your higher-end light fixture is what you want before you hit that "buy” button.
Cheers amidst the occasional hiccup
Bellacor's stellar reputation shines through, backed by its "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. With thousands of happy customers singing their praises, Bellacor proves time and again that they're the go-to spot for standout light fixtures. We do want to point out that some shoppers have had issues getting their orders when they expected delivery, and that it hasn't always been easy getting a timely update from Bellacor: that's the gist behind any recent negative reviews you'll see when visiting sites like Trustpilot (where, by the way, more than 6,500 people have given the retailer a perfect 5-star score, and the overall average is 4.4 out of 5).
Where standout light fixtures call home
Sure, there might be a snag here or there, but Bellacor still has a solid reputation overall. While we can't give this light fixture retailer our highest rating (because of those delivery issues, as well as not offering any help with installation options), Bellacor is still worthy of a high rating. Whether you're after a statement piece or something a bit more understated, Bellacor's diverse inventory has got you covered. So why not give them a whirl and see what unique finds await?
Established in 2004, Lumens offers modern lighting, furniture, and decor, having established a global presence through its merger with YDesign Group several years ago. With over 420 design brands under its wing, Lumens offers an expansive product range featuring iconic designs in light fixtures.
Most expensive light fixture on our list
As we compare light fixture retailers, we like to look at the least and most expensive items on offer. At Lumens, the lowest-priced light fixture (once we sifted out all of the accessories like frame-in kits and replacement parts) was the simple Blaine Pendant by Generation Lighting, on sale for just $4.80. As for the highest-priced light fixture, Lumens won first place on our list with the Poliedri Pendant by Venini. Made to order in Medium or Large, even with a temporary 10% discount, this stunner was still priced at $286,902. Such custom-designed light fixtures can take longer to ship, of course; this Venini piece had an 11- to 13-week delivery timeframe.
Around 10,000 light fixtures to consider
But, assuming you've got something else in mind, it's not difficult to find what you're looking for among the 10,000+ light fixtures here. It's easiest if you start with a particular type of fixture, such as Ceiling Lights or Wall Lights, or maybe even by the room you're going to illuminate. From there, this store's user-friendly filters allow for easy navigation, letting you refine your search based on color, finish, light count, and more. While customer reviews can add direction to your shopping experience, they're really not visible until you click on a specific fixture you like (and that makes it difficult to use those reviews to find lighting that's been well-received by customers).
Get a free consultation with a design specialist
Still, there's plenty of detail on each light fixture's listing to go on. Descriptions and specifications tell you almost anything you could need to know, but if there's something missing, just jump into the Q&A section and see if another customer had the same question previously (or ask your own). Better yet, if you love the idea of working with a professional to get recommendations, Lumens offers free consultations with certified American Lighting Association design specialists.
Discounts... maybe
Lumens offers discounts fairly regularly. At the time of our most recent visit, there was a $50 discount on a minimum order of $500 if we provided our email address and waited for a message with the code. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work: multiple shoppers have complained that they got lots of marketing emails but never the one with the coveted savings code. At least the shipping is free on most light fixtures at Lumens, assuming you meet their $99 threshold.
Overall reputation is positive
Reputation-wise, Lumens does relatively well. The Better Business Bureau has rated the retailer with a perfect "A+” grade, and there were fewer than 3 dozen complaints filed with the BBB in the last three years. And, if you look at what people have said in Google reviews, over three-fourths of customers say Lumens deserves 5 stars; the 4.3-star average for the retailer spans more than 2,000 reviews.
30-day returns, restocking fees on orders over $5k
There are a handful of downsides to buying light fixtures from Lumens, though. First, returns can only be requested within 30 days, and while Lumens will give you the shipping label, they'll deduct the cost of the return from your refund. Also, if your order is over $5,000 (whether that's based on a single, higher-end chandelier or on a dozen recessed lights for your kitchen, media room, and hallway), Lumens reserves the right to charge a restocking fee.
In-stock fixtures may not actually be ready to ship now
But, the biggest issue customers have had with Lumens is the discrepancy between what the site shows is in stock for shipment and what's actually available. More than a few people have reported placing an order for a light fixture that says it's ready for shipping, only to get an email later saying that the updated delivery timeframe is several weeks (or months) in the future. Even shoppers who then canceled their order to place an order for a different fixture that was supposedly in-stock were then confronted with the same problem. We can't figure out why a higher-end retailer like Lumens would allow customers to have that frustrating experience.
A few issues but solid overall
All that aside, we still give Lumens a good score. There are on-trend designs for light fixtures here that you're not likely to see in some of the more big-box retailers we evaluated. We love that Lumens offers complimentary appointments with lighting experts, and their overall track record for customer service is positive. While we'll be keeping an eye on the in-stock-or-not situation, we're comfortable recommending Lumens as a worthwhile retailer for buying light fixtures.
1 800 Lighting is the online outpost of Capitol Lighting, a trusted retailer established in 1924. You can visit their showrooms if you're in New Jersey or southeast Florida, or you can explore their extensive collection online right from your home.
Competitive prices and vast inventory
If you're looking for a vast selection of light fixtures, 1 800 Lighting won't let you down. In the Ceiling Lights category alone, there were over 50,000 choices (which include accessories for lighting you may already own). During our most recent shopping trip to the online store, prices started at an amazing $6 for a mini pendant light and ranged all the way up to the stunning Niagara 80” Chandelier by the famous brand Lladro for $122,500. It was on those luxury-range chandeliers and pendants that we noticed how 1 800 Lighting is often priced lower than competitors.
Look for discount codes and price matching if applicable
This retailer goes even further than that, with codes frequently featured at the top of the site. On our last visit, we were able to save 20% just by entering one such code, and that applied even on many of the most expensive light fixtures in the store (Lladro was an excluded brand, but Meyda Lighting and SONNEMAN fixtures were eligible). Shipping is free on any order over $49, and as even more icing on the cake, 1 800 Lighting advertises a 110% price match guarantee; unfortunately, the link with further details wasn't working at the time we clicked on it, but it's safe to say at a minimum that it'll apply within 10 days of your purchase if you find your fixtures somewhere else at a lower price.
90-day returns, "A+” from the BBB
And, speaking of deadlines, you've got 90 days to initiate a return if your light fixtures arrive and they're not quite what you had in mind. That's part of the reason that Capitol Lighting (1 800 Lighting's parent brand) has an "A+” rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. Most people who shop here are satisfied with their purchase.
Your delivery may not come when you need it
But, we do want to point out that this store has had a track record of challenges with shipping delays and incomplete deliveries. Eventually, their customer service team will make everything right, but if you're working on a time crunch, this might not be your ideal light fixture store. We found reports from multiple customers who said that what they ordered came too late to be installed on a time-sensitive project, or that they didn't get all of the fixtures delivered in one go (and had to wait for subsequent deliveries to complete the order and then install them at the same time).
Good enough
Ultimately, 1 800 Lighting emerges as a reliable (but somewhat average) choice in the light fixture landscape. While it may not always dazzle compared to higher-ranked retailers' delivery, its long-standing reputation makes it a trustworthy option for your lighting needs. So, if you're seeking a dependable destination for light fixtures with a few minor caveats, consider giving 1 800 Lighting a browse.
Founded in 2009, Lights Online is a go-to destination for illuminating your beloved home. With over 50 years of family-owned business experience, this light fixture store offers a carefully curated selection of lighting solutions to suit every room, style, and budget.
Decent inventory of light fixtures
While Lights Online may have a slightly smaller inventory compared to some competitors, with over 20,000 options, it's certainly nothing to scoff at. It's going to take you a few clicks to start browsing, though: at a minimum, you'll need to select Chandeliers & Pendants, Wall, Ceiling, or Outdoor from the top navigation links. From there, you'll choose a style that you're thinking of. At that point, Lights Online gives you filters for style, finish, light count, price, brand, and whether or not there's a coupon.
Fixtures for small and big budgets alike
Pricing here runs the gamut. When we shopped recently, we found quite a few mini pendants by Generation Lighting for under $20 (most of which were on sale/clearance). Lights Online didn't have the $100K+ chandeliers featured by some of its competitors, but there was still a broad selection of $20,000+ designs from Allegri, Schonbek, Crystorama, and SONNEMAN on offer.
Products could use a few more images and broader descriptions
Of course, there are thousands of options between the low-and-high-end styles we mentioned. As you browse, you'll have no trouble determining which ones can be shipped out the same day as your order, are sale priced, or that have customer reviews. There aren't as many light fixtures with shopper feedback here, compared with some rival retailers, so unfortunately that's not going to be much help as you make your decision. Lights Online doesn't necessarily offer a ton of product images or super-detailed descriptions of each light fixture, just enough to get the job done. (We also laughed when we were looking at one transitional chandelier with a product description stating, "This light would look best in the dining room”, but the one real-world photo of the fixture showed it over a garden tub!)
Price matching + discount offers
If you like to save money like we do, you can sign up for Lights Online's mailing list to receive a $20 discount on orders over $100. Plus, you may be able to take advantage of their price matching policy, where they'll match a competitor's price plus 10% of the difference within 30 days of your original purchase.
20% restocking fee on returns within 30 days
However, Lights Online falls short in its return policy compared with rival stores, with a 20% restocking fee applied to all returns within a 30-day window. While the store's stylish and on-trend selection sets it apart from competitors, the restocking fee may deter some customers.
Good reputation
Still, Lights Online shines in customer satisfaction, demonstrated by an "A+" BBB rating with no complaints filed in the last three years. With an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 across more than 2,300 ratings, customers praise the store for well-packaged deliveries and accurate product descriptions, despite occasional issues with coupon application or shipping updates.
Above average for light fixtures
Lights Online stands as a better-than-average option for light fixtures, offering stylish designs and trustworthy service. While the return policy may be a drawback for some, the overall shopping experience and customer satisfaction make Lights Online a reliable choice, earning it a good rating.
1 Stop Lighting is a light fixture retailer that's been illuminating homes since 2001. From its humble beginnings, 1 Stop Lighting has evolved into a network of internet retailers offering a vast array of lighting solutions, heaters, furniture, and home decor across multiple websites.
High- and low-end light fixtures are easy to find
With over 50,000 light fixtures to choose from, you'll find options here to suit every style and budget. Prices start as low as $4 for a 2-light flush mount fixture on clearance, with plenty of affordable accessories and replacement parts available. On the higher end, you could indulge in the luxury of SONNEMAN chandeliers ranging from $60,000 to $109,000, reminiscent of fixtures found in upscale hotel lobbies.
Filters can simplify your shopping
Navigating through the plethora of options may seem daunting, but don't panic quite yet. Just utilize the handy filters to narrow down your search based on style, design, or finish, and you're likely to find precisely what you have in mind. As you browse, be aware that the multicolor boxes on the preview aren't indicative of your final choices; they merely signify additional options beyond the displayed image. For instance, the Azu chandelier by Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting comes in silver, gold, and white, some wall fixtures may be offered in bronze or copper, and so on.
Pay attention to shipping estimates
Once you've selected a light fixture you like, you'll see plenty of product information to help you decide if it's worth adding to your cart. Those generally include multiple photos, product details from number of bulbs to the weight of the fixture, and customer reviews when available. Pay particular attention to the anticipated shipping timeframe: not every fixture is going to be available for immediate delivery. On that Azu chandelier we described, its expected window for arrival was 4-6 weeks.
Discounts and price matching are solid perks
As you explore the store, keep an eye out for discount offers that pop up periodically. While signing up for the newsletter may snag you a 25% discount code, there are also seasonal sales offering up to 20% off sitewide. Plus, enjoy free shipping on all orders over $49. And if you happen to spot the same fixture at a lower price elsewhere, take advantage of 1 Stop Lighting's price match guarantee.
BBB gives the retailer an "A+”
Looking at the overall customer experience here, 1 Stop Lighting maintains an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. While some negative reviews mention difficulties getting a hold of anyone at customer service, our experience was quite the opposite: with a toll-free number readily available, responsive live chat on the website, and minimal wait times when we called, assistance was well within reach.
Customer feedback on returns isn't all good
However, the return process may not be as seamless as you would hope. Several customers have encountered challenges with refunds and returns, particularly with clearance items or damaged light fixtures. So, while you are theoretically covered by a 30-day return policy at 1 Stop Lighting, we're not 100% confident that it'll be honored as expected.
Website could use some work
And, while 1 Stop Lighting offers an extensive selection of light fixtures and decent customer service, the website could benefit from some polishing. Broken links, typos (like "flourescent” instead of "fluorescent”), and incessant newsletter sign-up prompts will likely detract from your overall user experience.
Just average for buying light fixtures
All things considered, 1 Stop Lighting comes in at a "just average” rating. The selection of light fixtures is vast, but the online storefront and customer service experience has some gaps. It's not a bad place to shop for your next fixtures, but it comes up short compared with many rival retailers we've evaluated. We recommend giving those sites a browse first.
Despite the name, Light in the Box isn't what you would call a "light fixture specialist”. This store serves as a direct-from-the-manufacturer supplier of thousands upon thousands of products, with new items added daily. Yes, that sometimes includes light fixtures, but we'd encourage you to set your expectations on the low side as you begin browsing the inventory here.
Choose a fixture type, then use filters
When you first land on the Lights & Lighting main page, you'll need to indicate a general ballpark of the kind of light fixtures you're shopping for: Pendant, Outdoor, Indoor, Wall, and so on. You can also use the filters if you have a general price range in mind, a particular lighting color or temperature, voltage, or the room where the fixture will be used. Once you've chosen a type of light fixture, you'll have access to more filters. For example, in Pendant Lights, you can also narrow down the options by finish, style, number of bulbs, design shape, and several other filters.
Surprisingly popular for light fixtures
We were pleasantly surprised to see not just a wide range of light fixtures and styles at Light in the Box, but also options that had plenty of customer reviews with photos. This retailer can be a little hit-or-miss, depending on what you're shopping for, but from the look of it, light fixtures can be a win.
Fixtures with feathers?!
And, the styles range from minimalist to "oh wow, is that really a thing?” In the latter category, we invite you to search for "LED Pendant Light Chandelier Gorgeous Extra Large White Ostrich Feather Bouquet” (and the product title was even longer than that, hello keywords...). Yes, we said feathers, and more than 40 shoppers loved this light fixture enough to average 4.9 stars out of 5. You can get the feathers in multiple colors, too, and some of the customer reviews have photos of a blue-feathered fixture in a dining room ("It makes my entire dining room look like royalty”, the customer gushed), pink feathers in a bedroom, you get the idea. And, for just $229.99, it can be yours too.
No returns on light fixtures
But, you should know upfront that all Lights & Lighting products are ineligible for returns at Light in the Box. No exceptions. If you unbox those feathers, for example, and think "Maybe this wasn't a good idea”, you're out of luck.
Some customers absolutely love shopping here
That's an important point, because not all customers love the shopping experience here. Don't get us wrong: Light in the Box has some enthusiastic fans, with over 80,000 store reviews on Trustpilot and via Google, which average a remarkably solid 4.4 stars. For those who love this retailer, it's a great place to shop for virtually anything that comes to mind for the home.
Failing grade from the BBB
On the other hand, the Better Business Bureau has rated Light in the Box with the worst-possible grade (namely, an "F”). There were over 600 complaints filed with the BBB in the last three years, and about a quarter of those never got a response from the retailer. Complaints range from "I never got my order and I can't get the company to give me a refund” to "I didn't know that I'd have to send this item to China to get a refund”.
A little risky when buying light fixtures
Could you get a light fixture you love here? Maybe. Can you rest assured that you're going to receive top-notch customer service (in fluent English)? Maybe not. And, of course, there are no options for in-store pickup or returns of online orders, no connections with professional installers, or any of the other benefits offered by Light in the Box's higher-ranked rivals on our list. It's a fun place to shop, but it comes up short in the reliability department, earning a lower rating from us.
Let's take a closer look at some of the most common light fixture types, to help you know what you're shopping for. First up are chandeliers, elaborate ceiling-mounted fixtures featuring multiple arms with lights. Chandeliers come in various sizes and designs, from classic crystal to modern metal and glass compositions. They often serve as statement pieces in dining rooms, foyers, or living spaces.
Next we've got pendant lights. These light fixtures hang from the ceiling by a cord, chain, or rod, typically over kitchen islands, dining tables, or in hallways. They come in a wide range of styles, including sleek and minimalist designs, vintage-inspired fixtures, and geometric shapes.
If you've got limited space or a low ceiling, you'll likely need to consider flush mount and semi-flush mount light fixtures. Flush mount lights sit snug against the ceiling, while semi-flush mount lights hang slightly lower, providing a bit more visual interest.
Wall sconces are mounted to walls and provide ambient or accent lighting. They come in various styles, including traditional, contemporary, and industrial, and can be used to enhance the ambiance of bedrooms, hallways, or outdoor spaces.
And finally, there's track lighting: a linear track with adjustable fixtures that can be moved and angled to direct light where needed. This versatile option is commonly used in kitchens, galleries, or retail spaces, allowing for customizable illumination.
So, now that you have a better idea of what light fixtures you'll need, it's time to get shopping. To help you decide where to start the process of finding the perfect light fixtures, keep the following criteria in mind:
