Want to knock off all the items on your home improvement shopping list in one purchase? Wayfair is happy to oblige. Their massive online store has millions of items to choose from, including almost 100,000 light fixtures.
Never fails to have something unique - and pricey
Whenever we shop at Wayfair, it's always entertaining to look at the highest-end items in the category we're browsing. The Ceiling Lights category did not disappoint. The most expensive fixture at the time of our review was the Illumina Bola 14-Light Sputnik Modern Linear Chandelier by Meyda Tiffany. Discounted to just under $100K from a retail price of $149,500 - Hurry! Only 6 left in stock! - this piece surprisingly does not come with light bulbs. You can get plenty of information about each light fixture in Wayfair's product descriptions, including the fact that the Illumina Bola weighs a hefty 890 pounds. For a little less money - a more reasonable $59,999.99 - you could be the proud owner of the Meyda Tiffany 84" Wide Antlers 16-Light Chandelier, which definitely gives off some Disney vibes (Brave? Beauty and the Beast?) and comes in at a much more svelte 370 pounds.
No shortage of everyday options too
Unless you're buying lighting for a corporate headquarters (or a villain's lair!), you're likely looking for fixtures that aren't quite as extreme. No worries: Wayfair has nearly 100,000 options and lots of guidance to get you to the ones you'll love. On the main Lighting page, you can shop by the type (such as wall lights, ceiling fans, and so on), by room, or by Popular Picks. Some categories also offer Curated Collections, like Budget-Friendly Chandeliers or Best-Selling Pendant Lights, and you can always use the filters to find light fixtures that are the right finish or shape, or that can be delivered to your zip code with 1- or 2-day shipping.
Customer perks are just average
Wayfair is just okay when it comes to customer-friendly policies. You'll get free shipping on all orders over $35, which includes most light fixtures, and there's a 30-day return policy. However, you're on the hook for any return shipping fees, which can get spendy on heavier items.
Customer feedback is a plus
One advantage of buying from a huge-volume retailer like Wayfair is getting hundreds if not thousands of customer ratings on most items. For example, the Upper Vobster 2-Light Unique/Statement Drum by Mercury Row had almost 3000 ratings during our most recent visit to Wayfair, with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars: not bad for an $84.99 light fixture! This retailer has an "A+" and accreditation from the BBB, though you'll find a high number of complaints filed there. That's to be expected for most big retailers, and Wayfair has done a commendable job of improving their responses to customer issues over the last few years.
Great choice for DIYers
There's nothing really wrong about buying light fixtures from Wayfair. The inventory is abundant, pricing is competitive, and shipping/returns are comparable with most other stores. The main reason we rank this retailer lower than several others is because it's no specialist in home improvement or lighting. You won't have an expert to consult if you're unsure of how well a fixture will fit, if the wiring needs to be reworked, or if any other questions arise. Of course, experienced DIY-ers won't find this to be an obstacle at all, making Wayfair a great choice for light fixtures for anyone confident in their home improvement abilities.
Whether you're looking for bright, new outdoor lights to increase your home's security or a gorgeous pendant light to update your entryway, there are literally tens of thousands of options - but only when you take advantage of the selection offered by internet retailers. No brick-and-mortar store near you can even come close!
What if I'm not sure which light fixture I need? Is it really a good idea to buy something I haven't seen in person? Rest assured that most online retailers of light fixtures go out of their way to help you get the perfect lighting, with detailed product descriptions, ALA-certified experts on standby for any questions before or after you place your order, and generous return policies that let you get a refund or make an exchange if needed.
Of course, if you want the best of both worlds, you can always consider buying your lighting online from a big-box home improvement store near you: better selection with the convenience of local returns!
Best of all, shopping for light fixtures online makes it even more likely that you'll find something you truly love - not just what happened to be in stock at the local hardware store. If you're looking for lighting that's not a carbon copy of everyone else's in your neighborhood or you've got a unique decor you're trying to enhance, you'll definitely want to have as many options as possible.
Which store should you use for buying your light fixtures? There are many excellent retailers out there and it could feel a little overwhelming deciding where to start. Consider the following criteria as you choose which store gets your business:
