On the Walmart website

Walmart has thousands of luggage options to fit every travel need. They have good options for kids and adults, starting under $20. Many of the brands they sell are ones you might not recognize, but since they aren't name-brand, they come with much lower price tags. You won't spend over $230 here even on a highly-rated, multi-piece luggage set, which is pretty incredible. Walmart offers free shipping on orders over $35 and a 90-day return policy, which is more generous than most. If you want a lot of options and an incredible deal, look no further than Walmart's website for luggage.

On the JCPenney website

JCPenney hosts a collection of a wide range of brands and luggage types that will fit any budget. Their website leaves nothing out, so you'll get tons of information on your color choices, the look and feel of a suitcase or bag, size, customer ratings, buyer Q&As, and more. JCPenney often runs good sales and they offer free shipping for orders over $49. They have a 60-day return policy and an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, making them a really good, if not slightly surprising, choice for buying luggage online.

On the Kohl's website

Kohl's offers a fun variety of luggage designs at prices that you can feel good about. They sell a lot of brands and have hundreds or even thousands of customer ratings on their products, to help you find luggage that offers the best value. You'll get your luggage shipped to you for free if you spend over $49 and you get over 90 days to make returns, which is quite generous. Although we can't say that Kohl's has the fanciest or highest-quality products, they offer good luggage at good prices, so be sure to check out their selection.

On the Home Depot website

The Home Depot is known for being a home improvement retail store, but over the years we've been surprised by how many seemingly non-related products they have in their online store. Here you'll find over 1,000 pieces of luggage from popular and lesser-known brands, all under $500. There are tons of great choices, most of which have a good amount of customer reviews, come with free shipping, and have free 90-day returns, so The Home Depot has turned out to be a place we'd actually recommend for buying luggage.

On the Luggage Online website

Luggage Online is home to hundreds of brands that make suitcases, bags, backpacks, accessories, and other types of travel gear. Their website is easy to navigate, they provide good product descriptions, and they have generous policies like a 110% price match guarantee, free 30-day returns, and free shipping on orders over $99. Most of the ratings from customers are high, but in recent months, they've had issues with sending out wrong products and poor customer service. So, we're not entirely gung ho about recommending Luggage Online as a top luggage destination until we see more positive feedback across the board.

On the Best Buy website

Best Buy is a go-to electronics store for many people. They seem to have it all in terms of items that come with a battery or can be plugged into a wall. So, we were surprised to find a selection of 111 luggage sets and singles here. They have options for kids and adults, and good website filters to narrow down your results to find what you're needing the most. Best Buy has a 30-day return policy, free shipping, and is well-liked by customers. They have earned a good rating from us, but not one of our very highest since they don't specialize in luggage and might not be top-notch as far as customer service goes in that particular area.

On the Irv's Luggage website

Irv's Luggage has been around since 1947 and carries a long list of brands and types of luggage. Their website is easy to navigate, but they don't have many photos on their product listings - so you can't see a 360 degree view of their luggage or what they're like on the inside. You also have to buy individual luggage pieces online here, since they don't sell sets. Plus, there are hardly any customer reviews available on the suitcases and duffel bags sold here, and we would rather shop at a store that gives us more to go off of before making a purchase. All of that leads to a "just okay" rating for Irv's Luggage.

On the Macy's website

Macy's has over 1,115 pieces of luggage for sale on their website, some of which are at extremely discounted prices, so it's worth checking them out. You'll have to do some searching to narrow down what you're really looking for, but it could pay off. Macy's has a lot of unfiltered reviews from customers on their bags and suitcases, so refer to these when making a purchase. They have an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau right now, so we wouldn't say that their customer service is top notch by any means. However, Macy's has been around a long time and is overall a trustworthy place to shop, so it's worth adding them to your list of stores to browse for luggage.

On the Zappos website

Zappos has made a name for themselves in the shoe industry as a destination for trendy, name-brand kicks. They also have a small selection of luggage, which also includes things like boujee Michael Kors wallets, purses, and backpacks. Their suitcases are mainly name-brand and start at $150, so be prepared to spend quite a bit here. They offer free shipping on all orders and 365-day returns, but their customer reviews have us really hesitant to make any purchases at all. In many ways, this is not an ideal place to shop for luggage, so Zappos has earned our lowest ranking among the stores on our list.

What Are the Best Stores to Buy Luggage Online?

A good set of luggage is something that everyone needs. Whether you're a world traveler or just do local overnighters every few months, nothing beats having a great set of bags or suitcases to store all your belongings and keep yourself organized. There are so many choices out there, ranging from hardside carry-ons to soft rollaways, so there's quite a bit to consider when you're shopping.

You'll want to have luggage small enough to easily carry around or take as a carry-on during a flight without having to pay extra to check a bag. Then for longer trips, it's important to have choices for larger sizes that can store days worth of clothes, toiletries, and anything else you might want to transport back and forth.

You don't want to find yourself strapped without the right luggage when you need it, so having at least 3 different sizes should ensure you have the essentials. Aside from there being lots of choices of luggage sizes, you'll also find that stores carry all different patterns, materials, and luggage with different features like wheels, locks, pockets, storage cubes, and more. Plus, many stores have extra-small luggage that's just for children, so you could find fun patterns and shapes to excite your kids and make it easy to organize their belongings.

You can really be picky and cater your bags or suitcases to fit your lifestyle and preferred mode of transportation. Maybe you want floral luggage so you can always quickly identify it on a baggage carousel at the airport or simple black bags that are durable enough to not show wear and tear and are easy to carry wherever you go.

There are more luggage options than you can imagine, so it's important to pick a store with a really good selection that is known for carrying high quality products. Make sure you choose somewhere that has good filter features to help you identify what you care most about in your luggage set and narrow down their inventory to see your best options.

We also recommend taking the following things into consideration to help you get the most value from your purchase and make sure you find luggage that will last for years to come:

The experts at Top Consumer Reviews have researched the best stores that sell luggage online. We hope this information helps you find a set of bags or suitcases that you're excited about and will make a good companion for all your future travels!

Luggage Store FAQ

What is luggage used for?
Luggage is used to protect clothing and other items during travel. It is usually made either with a hard shell or a durable soft material. There are often compartments and dividers within a suitcase that allow you to pack everything you need in an organized manner. Most luggage is rectangular in shape and comes in different sizes depending on how many things you're bringing along on your trip.
Why are there so many different sizes of luggage?
There are about 6 different sizes of luggage if you want to get really specific. There are personal item-size luggage (about 17" long), international carry-on (about 21" tall), domestic-carry on (about 22" tall), small checked luggage (23-24" tall), medium checked luggage (25-27" tall), and large checked luggage (28-32" tall). These sizes are based on airline regulations since most people use their luggage for flying. Airlines only accept luggage of certain sizes depending on how much you've paid for your ticket and where you're going. People like to have luggage in a few different sizes so they can adapt to however they are traveling.
What is the best style of luggage to buy?
The best style of luggage to buy is the style you like best! You can find luggage in all colors and patterns. Sometimes it's helpful to have more unique luggage so that it's easy to identify if you're picking it up at baggage claim after a flight and no one else takes it by mistake. Some other things to consider when choosing a style is whether or not you want luggage with wheels, hard or soft material, how many interior compartments, and other small details.
What is the best luggage material?
There is no single best material for luggage, so you'll want to decide what type you buy based on what you're transporting. You will have choices like aluminum, polyester, ballistic nylon, leather, polycarbonate, etc. There are pros and cons with different materials. If you're worried about things breaking or being affected by impact, hard-shell luggage will offer the best protection. Soft-sided luggage can expand and be more flexible if you're stuffing it full to the brim and it usually has external pockets. You'll find affordable options for both hard- and soft-sided luggage, so it really comes down to preference.
Is luggage expensive?
You can either buy luggage one piece at a time or find a set that comes with two or three pieces. Price will vary based on the size, material, and brand. You can get a medium-sized suitcase ranging from about $50 to $300. However, there are also plenty of retailers that sell luggage sets for under $300, which is a great deal. Once you decide on the style, material, and size of suitcase(s) you're looking for, you can start comparing the prices among different retailers.
Can luggage be returned to the store if needed?
Yes! If your luggage is new and unused, almost all retailers offer a return policy. You will likely have anywhere from 30 to 90 days to change your mind about the luggage you purchased and send it back for a full refund. You might have to pay return shipping, so keep that in mind. Sometimes it helps to see your luggage in person: if you decide it isn't the size you imagined or a style you like, you can always switch it out for something else.
What are the luggage requirements for flying on an airplane?
Most airlines allow you to have one checked bag and one carry-on bag when flying (unless you pay extra for additional checked bags). It's a good idea to have a carry-on-sized suitcase since you aren't usually charged for these on a flight. The standard size for this is 22" x 14" x 9", which includes handles and wheels. Checked bags cannot exceed 50 lbs and the most common maximum size is 62 linear (total) inches. Read the baggage policies for the airline you're flying on before you head to the airport!
Should everyone own a set of luggage?
It's hard to get away with not owning your own luggage since traveling is more popular than ever these days. Even if you aren't going long-distance and needing to get on an airplane, having a nice bag or suitcase to pack your clothes, shoes, and hygiene items for a quick weekend getaway is essential.

Choosing the Right Luggage

Historically, luggage consisted mainly of large trunks or bulky chests. Today, the term is readily used to describe a suitcase, garment bag, duffle and/or tote. A suitcase is commonly used for clothing to be worn throughout a lengthy trip, while a duffle or tote may be used as an overnight bag for very short times away from home.

When it comes to traveling with your luggage, having the right products may mean the difference in having a memorable trip and one that you would rather forget. The right luggage will provide you with organization, plenty of room and a few spare compartments for all of the little souvenirs that you pick up during your travels. Above all, the best luggage will be selected after first determining how you intend to use it. What size will you need and what is the anticipated length of your trip(s)? The answers to both of these questions will help with your decision and will ensure that your luggage will be a perfect fit.

If you are like most, you are probably upgrading to a new luggage set. Perhaps you have an older suitcase and need a new product with more space or maybe your current set is simply beginning to show its age. Whatever the reason, choosing the size for your new suitcase can simply be done by measuring the inside of your old one and then deciding whether or not you need the same size or one featuring a smaller or larger interior. With the accurate measurements, you will be able to narrow your choices down to only those that are available in the size that you need. The basic recommendation is that a suitcase should accommodate enough clothes to get you through your trip. The longer the trip, the larger the luggage.

Hard-sided suitcases are stain resistant, stronger than soft-sided luggage and can be used to protect fragile items. These types of suitcases typically feature wheels for easy transport and a pull bar. Semi-soft sided suitcases offer a sturdy frame and flexible interior, which is ideal if you tend to pack a bulging suitcase. These, too, commonly feature wheels and a pull bar for easy transport. Soft-sided suitcases are ideal for public transportation because they are lightweight and can be squeezed into small spaces.

Before you begin to shop, take a moment to think about how often your luggage will be used, what type of trips will be taken, the length of time you will be spending away from home and which items will be accompanying you on your travels.

Most quality luggage pieces will feature multiple compartments, which will make for easy storage. If you are traveling and are limited in the amount of space that you have for luggage, having extra compartments will be ideal. If you are looking for matched sets, most top luggage manufacturers, including American Tourister and Samsonite, offer a full product line of quality pieces in matching designs. Whether your choice is classic solids or you like a splash of color in your luggage, there is no shortage of choices.
