The Best Luggage Stores

Where Can You Find the Best Luggage Stores?

Whether you're looking for an all-in-one set for an upcoming international adventure or a sturdy duffel for a college student, you may have already experienced the frustration of trying to find the styles and brands you want at local retailers. Most big-box stores carry a very limited selection, and even specialty stores fail to meet the needs of every traveler.

It's no wonder that so many shoppers trust well-established online Luggage Stores to get what they need - in stock, priced competitively, and delivered right to their doorstep. What could be better than using an easy-to-shop site that makes it possible to see all of your options with just a few clicks?

Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award eBags Review 5 Star Rating

5 Star Rating Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

For more than 20 years, eBags has been one of the internet's premier destinations for buying Bags and Luggage of all kinds: more than 35 million bags delivered and almost 4 million total customer reviews of the products carried by this Luggage Store. That means that you'll get some serious expertise when you shop with this retailer.

We love the layout of the eBags site. It makes shopping for the perfect luggage set, under seat bag, or carry-on spinner extremely easy. If you already know what kind of luggage you need, click on the image for that category. Or, if you need a little help picking out the best options for your upcoming travels, you might appreciate the Luggage Finder tool towards the bottom of the Luggage page.

You can also find useful quick links if you go to the Luggage drop-down at the top of the site. Whether you have a preferred brand like Victorinox or American Tourister, you need something cute and sturdy for your kids' sleepovers at Grandma's, or you want suitcases and bags designed for traveling abroad, you'll get all of that and more in this area of the eBags store.

Best Luggage Stores

When you find a suitcase, duffel, or carry-on that catches your interest, you'll likely find hundreds of eBags customer reviews to help you know how it holds up to actual travel. That's how you can learn things that might not be in the generic product information, like how a particular carry-on doesn't have a side handle or a hardside isn't a durable as the description made it sound. You'll see each item's overall stars/rating at the top of the product page, and the actual reviews are at the bottom.

eBags compares extremely well when looking at our apples-to-apples luggage item, the 20" Omni Hardside Carry-on by Samsonite. Their price at the time of our review was $99.99 plus free shipping on all orders over $49. That was the absolute lowest price across most of eBags' competitors.

There was also a promotion at the top of the site offering discounts from 20-40% sitewide with the provided coupon code, making the Samsonite luggage even more affordable. We also spotted a semi-hidden 25% discount at the very bottom of the site, if we entered our email address for their newsletter. (Just keep an eye out for brand exclusions that might apply when using a coupon code for your purchase.)

This store also has a decent return policy. You'll have 30 days to make your return if needed, keeping in mind that your items must be in new, unused condition with all hang tags attached, and any personalized items (e.g. monogrammed, embroidered, etc.) aren't eligible for return. Returns are also made easy with a prepaid UPS return label; your refund will have a $7.95 shipping fee deducted from your total, unless you opt for a store credit instead of money back.

At the end of the day, no other online Luggage Store can match eBag's selection, reputation, and pricing. This is our first choice among retailers of Luggage.

Zappos Review 4.5 Star Rating

4.5 Star Rating

Although Zappo's started over 20 years ago as an online shoe retailer, this Las Vegas-based company has a robust inventory that includes clothing, handbags, and more. In their Luggage Store, you'll find nearly 1000 products spanning approximately 50 brands, such as top-rated Tumi, Samsonite, and Baggalini. Everything they offer is easily sorted according to features like TSA locks and laptop sleeves, bag size and color, materials and patterns, price and more.

Taking a look at our comparison product, the Samsonite Omni Hardside 20" Carry-On, Zappo's had it listed for $129.99 - not the least expensive in our review, but still available and affordably-priced.. There are more than 225 customer reviews and comments just on this product alone, which helps shoppers know how their suitcase might hold up, features it has, etc. We also like the helpful Customer Questions section, where Zappo's customer service reps answer questions like "what are the wheels made of?" and "how long does the pull-out handle extend?"

Best Luggage Stores

Compared with most of the Luggage Stores in our review, this retailer has one of the best shipping offers: free on every purchase, no minimum order required. Zappo's also has one of the most generous return policies at a full 365 days from the date of purchase. Bear in mind that your Luggage has to be in unused condition to be eligible for the refund, though, so no traveling to Australia and then deciding you'd rather have a suitcase in a different color!

While we didn't get any discounts or promo pop-ups while shopping the Zappo's site, we saw that they offer an ongoing 10% savings for any verified teachers, students, or members of the military. You'll find more details at the bottom of every page. We also saw mention made of a rewards program, but we didn't find any specifics, even in the FAQ.

Pricing, selection, and a fantastic reputation for attention to customers are all reasons why Zappo's is one of our highest-ranked Luggage Stores.

Luggage Pros Review 4.5 Star Rating

Luggage Pros

4.5 Star Rating

Luggage Pros got its start in the 1970s as a specialty store in Minnesota. Their history as a well-established Luggage Store means that they enjoy a strong relationship with many of the industry's best brands, such as Briggs & Riley, Swiss Army, and Tumi. And, looking at their "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau and 4.8 out of 5-star average over more than 600 customer reviews, it's easy to see why this is one of the highest-ranked retailers in our evaluation.

While Luggage Pros carries the Samsonite brand, their selection at the time of our review didn't include the Omni Hardside Carry-on we used as a reference point to compare Luggage Stores. The closest matches were the Centric for $118.61 and the S'Cure for $141.17 in their inventory of 16 Samsung suitcases.

Aside from that, however, you should have an easy time finding what you're looking for. Type what you want into the search box, or use the dropdown links at the top of the site to shop by brand, size, features, or type of Luggage.

Best Luggage Stores

Once you've selected the suitcase, carry-on or other gear that looks like a good match, you'll find an incredible depth of detail - including a comparison chart with similar products in other sizes or brands that might be an even better choice. Although the Luggage on this store doesn't tend to have as many customer reviews as the larger retailers, you can still see what other people have said. You can also check in with a representative using the Live Chat option, if you have any questions that weren't already answered.

If you sign up for the Luggage Pros email alerts, you can get a savings of 10%. You'll find that offer in the black banner at the top of the site. Another nice feature offered by Luggage Pros is their 115% Price Match Guarantee. While there are some exclusions, you should be able to take advantage of this policy if you find the Luggage you want for a lower price on most competitor sites. Finally, although the site doesn't spell this out in easy-to-find detail, there's a rewards program that could save you money on future purchases. Eligible products are indicated by green writing under the price, letting you know how much you could get in rewards with that purchase. Rewards are then delivered as an email gift certificate that can be redeemed online on your next order.

Luggage Pros offers free shipping on orders over $99. That's not quite as generous as many of the stores in our evaluation who offer free shipping for smaller orders - or on every order regardless of the total - but it's still a good deal if you're ready to buy something in the $100+ range.

If you need to return your purchase, Luggage Pros allows you to return the item within 30 days of delivery, as long as it's in new, unused condition. If you want a refund, expect to pay a fee of $4.95 per item, and any shipping fees you originally paid will be excluded from your refund amount. On the other hand, if you'd prefer an exchange, you can do that without paying the $4.95 fee.

We love the feel of shopping at a Luggage Store that got its start as a small, family-owned business: their level of detail, fantastic customer policies and great selection all convey an expertise not often found in an online retailer. You should have no problems buying your gear from Luggage Pros.

Overstock Review 4 Star Rating

4 Star Rating

Since 1999, Overstock has grown into a billion-dollar online retailer offering a wide variety of products at discounted prices. You never know what you'll find in stock when you visit this store!

When looking for the Samsonite carry-on we used to compare Luggage Stores, we found that Overstock's search results only had about a dozen products from the brand - including interesting items like a chair trolley and, mysteriously, step ladders not made by Samsonite at all.

However, in all other regards, the Overstock site has a large inventory of Luggage, and shopping the store is very streamlined: choose the category you need, like Rolling Carry On Totes or Hardside Luggage, or use the sort features on the left side of the page to narrow down the options by Features (e.g. spinner, expandable), Type, Price Range, Brands, Colors, Materials, and more.

Best Luggage Stores

Because Overstock is such a popular retailer, you'll usually find dozens - if not hundreds - of customer reviews on each suitcase or bag that interests you. For example, we found the Kenneth Cole Reaction 3-Piece Lightweight Hardside 4-Wheel Spinner Luggage Set had nearly 700 reviews at the time of our review - ranked as the #4 option among more than 500 3-piece sets in the Overstock inventory.

Overstock has a number of customer-friendly features. When you visit the Overstock site, you'll probably get a pop-up "Spin the Wheel". You could get discounts ranging from 5-15% or free shipping (though that's already included with most orders). You might also find a discount when signing up for their newsletter (12% at the time of our most recent visit).

Another perk offered by Overstock is their Club O Gold membership. With an annual fee of $19.95, subscribers enjoy free shipping on every order, rewards of 5% back on each purchase, and other bonuses like early access to big sales and even dining rewards. Finally, if you are a teacher, student, veteran, active military or first responder, you can get this membership at no cost.

What if you decide you want to return your Luggage? As long as your purchase is unopened and unused, you can return it within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Their policy is a little vague when it comes to used items, saying that you "may get a partial refund" of your purchase price.

Because of its fantastic range of suitcases and more, customer-friendly savings and perks, Overstock is a good choice among Luggage Stores.

Walmart Review 3 Star Rating

3 Star Rating

Walmart probably isn't the first name that comes to mind when making a Luggage purchase. But, with more than 14,000 items in the category, is this retailer worth considering? Let's take a look.

First, Walmart's brand selection is very limited: their featured "Premium Brands" included American Tourister, iFLY, Protege, Coleman, SWISSGEAR, Rockland, Travelers Club, and it luggage. Since they don't carry Samsonite, we couldn't do a price comparison with the carry-on piece we used with most of the other retailers in our review.

However, because Walmart is such a high-volume seller of just about everything, you'll have the advantage of numerous customer reviews before making your purchase. For instance, the EV1 3-piece set from Ellen DeGeneres had over 3000 ratings at the time of our most recent visit (with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars on this set priced at $159.99). That's a great resource you may not find with smaller online Luggage Stores.

Best Luggage Stores

Surprisingly, we found high-end names like Gucci and Louis Vuitton when we browsed the complete list of brands. You wouldn't expect to find those on the shelves of your local Walmart store, right? That's because you won't: Walmart has numerous third-party sellers who partner with the retailer as "marketplace" sellers. So yes, through the Walmart site, you can absolutely pick up a Michael Kors travel duffel bag in Signature Brown - but because your order is fulfilled by a different store, you'll need to find out what your guarantees and return policies are with that particular merchant, since Walmart's policies won't cover your purchase.

On the other hand, if your Luggage order is fulfilled by Walmart, you'll be able to take advantage of a much broader return policy: 90 days, no restocking fees, with free return-in-store if there's one near you.

We were also impressed that most of the items sold by Walmart were labeled as both free delivery and free in-store pickup. Walmart can be iffy when it comes to both of those options, so buyer beware: on a recent purchase within a different category, the item was listed as in-stock for pick-up, but during the order we were told we would have to wait to pick up in-store in one business day (because it wasn't actually available at our local store). The delivery then took five business days; we tracked the delivery to our city, then mysteriously away again, and finally back for pick-up. So, if you need your Luggage promptly, you might be disappointed when buying it at Walmart.

But, if you find what you need at Walmart's typically low prices, you've got the benefits of a 90-day return policy and the ability to take it back to a brick-and-mortar store for a refund. So, while Walmart isn't the highest-ranked Luggage Store we evaluated, it's still worth looking at when making your buying decisions.

Wayfair Review 2.5 Star Rating

2.5 Star Rating

Here at TopConsumerReviews, Wayfair is a frequent first-place winner for a variety of home goods. Whether you want an air hockey table or a new feather bed, this online retailer has it in a staggering array of price points and options. When it comes to Luggage, Wayfair's inventory consisted of more than 500 items.

Given Wayfair's typically-amazing inventory across a broad spectrum of products and brands, we were really surprised to find that in their Samsonite brand store, they had just four items - 3 folding chairs and a chair dolly. No luggage. So, we had no way to compare how they match up on the Samsonite carry-on we looked into on their competitors' sites.

Looking at Wayfair's brand list, you'll find more than 50 to choose from - but again, it caught our attention that many of the industry's best known names (Samsonite, American Tourister, etc.) were noticeably absent. And then we figured out why: in Wayfair's Luggage category, every product is a duffel or gear bag.

Best Luggage Stores

So, when it comes to duffel bags, Wayfair could be your perfect Luggage Store: you'll find wheeled 22" travel models by Olympia, cute quilted styles from Preferred Nation that look more like a handbag, and everything in between.

And, if you're a frequent buyer of "all things home", you might want to shop at Wayfair for some of their customer-pleasing benefits. Their $29.99/year MyWay program includes perks like free shipping on most items with no minimum order, free 1-day shipping on select merchandise, discounts on assembly and upgraded delivery on large items, as well as exclusive insider sales and content. Otherwise, shipping will be free on all orders over $49.

Wayfair is also well-known for their easy-peasy return policy: 30 days to request an exchange or refund, with no restocking fees.

But, as much as we love Wayfair in general, their Luggage selection was far too narrow to get one of our higher rankings. Most people want a much wider range of products than just duffel bags, leaving this retailer in the dust when compared with Luggage Stores offering those along with a strong inventory of suitcases, carry-ons, and 3-piece sets. We hope to see Wayfair add more Luggage to what they offer, so that more customers can take advantage of the Wayfair shopping experience.

Factory Outlet Store Review 1.5 Star Rating

Factory Outlet Store

1.5 Star Rating

Factory Outlet Store bills itself as a "consumer electronics retail website" with many of the brands you might see in your local outlet mall - although this store isn't affiliated with those shopping centers in any way.

But, similar to those outlet malls, your shopping experience on this site may have you wandering around trying to find what you need. When we searched for the Samsonite carry-on we used as a product comparison across Luggage Stores, we got a pop-up asking us to either keep browsing or call the site's toll-free number if we didn't find what we were looking for. Since there were only 5 brands listed when we looked at Luggage (under the tab that says "More"), we weren't impressed by this store's product selection.

To get to the luggage that Factory Outlet Store carries, you'll have to click on the More tab at the top of the page, then choose a brand that interests you. There's no general Luggage page that lets you shop according to the type of suitcase or duffel that you need, your desired price range or features. Even when we went to the product page of a brand that interested us, many of the links didn't work and just redirected to the main site. "Aggravating" is the nicest word we could come up with to describe the shopping experience with the Factory Outlet Store.

Best Luggage Stores

You won't find anything special with this Luggage Store's return policy. Returns or exchanges of unused items in their original packaging have to be made within 30 days of your date of purchase (assuming your items are actually delivered within 30 days), and you'll be charged a 15% restocking fee plus the actual cost of shipping.

This Luggage Store is definitely a mixed bag when it comes to reputation. While the store had an "A+" rating with the Better Business Bureau at the time of our review, we found a completely different story when we read through just a few of the customer reviews left on the BBB site. Far too many people mentioned that they had been sent used items instead of new, incorrect products that the store refused to fully refund or replace, and negative interactions with Factory Outlet Store representatives. There were also more than 60 closed complaints over the last 12 months - and those don't even take into account the more than 150 customer reviews averaging an abysmal 1 out of 5-star average on the BBB site alone.

On the other hand, the reviews shown in the bottom right side of the site show an overall positive rating of 88% over more than 11,000 reviews. You can see why we were left scratching our heads.

While everyone likes to find a good outlet mall bargain, there's nothing fun or exciting about trying to find your Luggage in the Factory Outlet Store site - or wondering if your order will be delivered late or in not-so-gently used condition, leaving you the "adventure" of trying to get a full refund. We think you'll have much smoother sailing if you entrust your purchase to a higher-ranked Luggage Store in our review.

Luggage Store FAQ

Luggage is used to protect clothing and other items during travel. It is usually made either with a hard shell or a durable soft material. There are often compartments and dividers within a suitcase that allow you to pack everything you need in an organized manner. Most luggage is rectangular in shape and comes in different sizes depending on how many things you're bringing along on your trip.
There are about 6 different sizes of luggage if you want to get really specific. There are personal item-size luggage (about 17" long), international carry-on (about 21" tall), domestic-carry on (about 22" tall), small checked luggage (23-24" tall), medium checked luggage (25-27" tall), and large checked luggage (28-32" tall). These sizes are based on airline regulations since most people use their luggage for flying. Airlines only accept luggage of certain sizes depending on how much you've paid for your ticket and where you're going. People like to have luggage in a few different sizes so they can adapt to however they are traveling.
The best style of luggage to buy is the style you like best! You can find luggage in all colors and patterns. Sometimes it's helpful to have more unique luggage so that it's easy to identify if you're picking it up at baggage claim after a flight and no one else takes it by mistake. Some other things to consider when choosing a style is whether or not you want luggage with wheels, hard or soft material, how many interior compartments, and other small details.
There is no single best material for luggage, so you'll want to decide what type you buy based on what you're transporting. You will have choices like aluminum, polyester, ballistic nylon, leather, polycarbonate, etc. There are pros and cons with different materials. If you're worried about things breaking or being affected by impact, hard-shell luggage will offer the best protection. Soft-sided luggage can expand and be more flexible if you're stuffing it full to the brim and it usually has external pockets. You'll find affordable options for both hard- and soft-sided luggage, so it really comes down to preference.
You can either buy luggage one piece at a time or find a set that comes with two or three pieces. Price will vary based on the size, material, and brand. You can get a medium-sized suitcase ranging from about $50 to $300. However, there are also plenty of retailers that sell luggage sets for under $300, which is a great deal. Once you decide on the style, material, and size of suitcase(s) you're looking for, you can start comparing the prices among different retailers.
Yes! If your luggage is new and unused, almost all retailers offer a return policy. You will likely have anywhere from 30 to 90 days to change your mind about the luggage you purchased and send it back for a full refund. You might have to pay return shipping, so keep that in mind. Sometimes it helps to see your luggage in person: if you decide it isn't the size you imagined or a style you like, you can always switch it out for something else.
Most airlines allow you to have one checked bag and one carry-on bag when flying (unless you pay extra for additional checked bags). It's a good idea to have a carry-on-sized suitcase since you aren't usually charged for these on a flight. The standard size for this is 22" x 14" x 9" , which includes handles and wheels. Checked bags cannot exceed 50 lbs and the most common maximum size is 62 linear (total) inches. Read the baggage policies for the airline you're flying on before you head to the airport!
It's hard to get away with not owning your own luggage since traveling is more popular than ever these days. Even if you aren't going long-distance and needing to get on an airplane, having a nice bag or suitcase to pack your clothes, shoes, and hygiene items for a quick weekend getaway is essential.

Choosing the Right Luggage

Historically, luggage consisted mainly of large trunks or bulky chests. Today, the term is readily used to describe a suitcase, garment bag, duffle and/or tote. A suitcase is commonly used for clothing to be worn throughout a lengthy trip, while a duffle or tote may be used as an overnight bag for very short times away from home.

When it comes to traveling with your luggage, having the right products may mean the difference in having a memorable trip and one that you would rather forget. The right luggage will provide you with organization, plenty of room and a few spare compartments for all of the little souvenirs that you pick up during your travels. Above all, the best luggage will be selected after first determining how you intend to use it. What size will you need and what is the anticipated length of your trip(s)? The answers to both of these questions will help with your decision and will ensure that your luggage will be a perfect fit.

If you are like most, you are probably upgrading to a new luggage set. Perhaps you have an older suitcase and need a new product with more space or maybe your current set is simply beginning to show its age. Whatever the reason, choosing the size for your new suitcase can simply be done by measuring the inside of your old one and then deciding whether or not you need the same size or one featuring a smaller or larger interior. With the accurate measurements, you will be able to narrow your choices down to only those that are available in the size that you need. The basic recommendation is that a suitcase should accommodate enough clothes to get you through your trip. The longer the trip, the larger the luggage.

Hard-sided suitcases are stain resistant, stronger than soft-sided luggage and can be used to protect fragile items. These types of suitcases typically feature wheels for easy transport and a pull bar. Semi-soft sided suitcases offer a sturdy frame and flexible interior, which is ideal if you tend to pack a bulging suitcase. These, too, commonly feature wheels and a pull bar for easy transport. Soft-sided suitcases are ideal for public transportation because they are lightweight and can be squeezed into small spaces.

Before you begin to shop, take a moment to think about how often your luggage will be used, what type of trips will be taken, the length of time you will be spending away from home and which items will be accompanying you on your travels.

Most quality luggage pieces will feature multiple compartments, which will make for easy storage. If you are traveling and are limited in the amount of space that you have for luggage, having extra compartments will be ideal. If you are looking for matched sets, most top luggage manufacturers, including American Tourister and Samsonite, offer a full product line of quality pieces in matching designs. Whether your choice is classic solids or you like a splash of color in your luggage, there is no shortage of choices.
