The Olive Press, based in California, is committed to environmental consciousness and responsible farming practices. Growing olives using organic and sustainable farming methods, they are determined to minimize their ecological footprint and preserve biodiversity on their farms. You are not just buying olive oil; you are supporting sustainability. Founded in 2013 by Ed Stolman, the man who pioneered the first olive oil in the Sonoma region, The Olive Press was founded on sustainability and "mindful farming." For those living near Sonoma and Napa or taking a trip to California, these sustainable, carefully-farmed groves are open to visitors.

Three clubs to choose from

When you choose an olive oil subscription from The Olive Press, you've got three options:

  • The Daily Dose (between $60 to $80 per month): This subscription comes with 100% California extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and subscribers can choose two bottles or more from a selected list and delivery frequency: every month, every two months, or every four months. The subscription can be adjusted anytime. All subscription orders are shipped at a $10 flat rate.
  • The Press Club (about $75 per quarter plus shipping): Subscribers receive approximately 3 bottles per shipment with 25% off quarterly shipments delivered January, April, July, and October. Subscribers must commit to one year of membership. Free shipping on subscriptions over $85.
  • The Amphora Club (starts at $160 per quarter): This club includes two shipments annually of 5 bottles of oil and vinegar selections with additional pantry and kitchen supplies, with a 25% discount during the club shipment on oils and vinegars. Shipments are delivered in March and September. Subscribers must commit to one year of membership. This club offers free shipping.

Custom subscriptions

Even the least expensive subscription - The Daily Dose Club - offers some customization. The Press Club and the Amphora Club offer a fully customizable experience.

Fun perks included

The Press Club and Amphora Club offer 20% discounts on all products during shipping months. They also offer 25% discounts from their retail stores, complimentary olive oil tasting tickets (one member plus up to 3 guests), and early access discount tickets to events. It's a wonderful perk for those who live near the Sonoma or Napa farms, but isn't much of a benefit for non-locals.

Best Olive Oil Clubs

Penalty for canceling early

While the Daily Dose subscription club has no penalty for canceling, the other two club levels charge a $75 penalty for canceling before the year commitment is complete. The only other option is to ask to skip a quarter.

No information on gift subscriptions

While there is an option to add a gift message, this olive oil club doesn't have any other information on gift subscriptions. There is no information on how a gifted subscriber would customize their subscription.

We wouldn't recommend this club

The Olive Press is very popular among locals who visit their retail locations. For those who really want quality, handpicked olives in their olive oil and a commitment to mindfulness where a high price tag is not a problem, this olive oil is a fantastic choice. But compared with other olive oil clubs that have specialized newsletters, personally curated recipes, a list of past olive oils that have been sent out, and are much less expensive, this one failed to impress us. In addition, the $75 cancellation penalty was the final straw that knocked The Olive Press Olive Oil Club to the bottom of our rankings.

Which Olive Oil Club is the Best?

To discover the huge difference in quality that fresh olive oil can make in your cooking, and even as a condiment, you can try an olive oil club. Olive oil clubs are a fantastic way to get a curated collection of the best olive oils in the country or on the planet, depending on the club you join.

These clubs source the most delicious varieties from all over the world. They do all the homework and deliver you the finest quality olive oils. Most of the clubs also believe in educating people about different olive oils and offer educational resources so you can gain experience to know how to curate olive oils for your own palate and cooking preferences. It can be a wonderful adventure - or a dependable way to have consistent, quality oils.

Be prepared for a shock. The excellent, fresh olive oils you will receive from any club will be a new experience. The fresher the olive oil is, the more you will taste a peppery, grassy flavor note in the back of your throat. Some clubs also infuse their oils with garlic, ginger, or lemon. One even offers bacon-infused olive oil - and best of all, any of these oils make lovely gifts.

How does an olive oil club work? Such subscriptions generally deliver monthly, though some clubs offer deliveries every 2, 3, 4, or 6 months. They will source the olive oil, select delicious options, and ship it to you. You choose how often you want to receive it. It's that simple.

Once you find the right club, you only need to choose how much olive oil you want delivered, where you'd like it to come from, whether or not it's a gift for someone else, and how often you want it delivered.

It's pretty easy to find a club that is the perfect fit - whether you are treating yourself or a friend. There are clubs for those who want to buy with sustainability in mind, clubs for the adventurous palates, clubs for the discerning at-home chef, and more.

With all the olive oil clubs available, how do you know which club to choose? Here are some things to think about as you decide:
