We've analyzed the best Passport Services to help you find the right solution for your needs.

2026 Passport Service Reviews

Here you can see how Rush My Passport and Passports and Visas match up head-to-head in a battle for the Best Passport Services in 2026.

Rush My Passport

  • Offers expedited passport courier services for new and renewal passports, lost/stolen/damaged passports, children's passports, and more
  • 11 locations nationwide (offices located in FL, GA, IL, TX, CA, NY, PA, DC)
  • Costs range from $119 for 8-week "smart service" to $599 for "emergency service" in 2-4 business days (once documents are received)

Rush My Passport is a featured partner of AARP and AAA, but you can use this passport expediting service even without a membership there. They charge the same fees whether you're renewing your passport or getting a new one, starting at $119 for 8-week "Smart Service" and going up to $599 for 2-4 business day "Emergency Service". While over 9,000 clients have left 5-star reviews for Rush My Passport, there's also a decent number of people who say that this service absolutely left them high and dry. That lands this expedited passport service a just-average rating from us.

Winner

Passports and Visas

  • Offers expedited and regular passport services for first-time applications, renewals, lost/stolen passports, name changes, and children's passports
  • Applications can be done in as little as 3 business days
  • Prices range from $149 to $399 (plus government fees and shipping costs)

Passports and Visas can significantly cut down the time it takes to get your passport, without making a huge hole in your wallet. They've been around for over 30 years and have helped well-known organizations like Make-A-Wish and the LGPA with their passport and visa needs - as well as everyday people like you too. Services start at $149, but even their 3-day turnaround option is under $400. Passports and Visas have received nearly 10,000 5-star reviews. The handful of complaints they've also received do keep them from earning our highest rating, but we're impressed enough with Passports and Visas to give them a very good score.

Passport services took a major hit during the pandemic as processing times ballooned and requirements shifted - often getting stricter - to match new travel norms. At the peak, many offices were closed or running with skeleton crews, and routine applications stalled - creating huge backlogs and leaving travelers waiting far longer for renewals or first-time documents. Some agencies pivoted to emergency-only appointments and limited in-person slots, which helped urgent cases but didn't fix the broader delays.

Things have gotten better, but travelers should still plan around some lingering slowdowns. Standard passport processing has steadied, but it's still slower than before the pandemic - usually 10 to 13 weeks from submission if you apply through the usual in-person channels, like a post office or other acceptance facility. To avoid last-minute scrambles, build in extra lead time when planning international trips.

Choosing that expedited route can bring the wait down to about 7 to 9 weeks, but that's still a far cry from the pre-pandemic timeline, when standard processing usually took 6 to 8 weeks and expedited requests often wrapped up in just 2 to 3. With turnaround times stretched, it's no surprise passport expediting services matter more than ever. If you're traveling soon, build in extra buffer time - demand is high and estimates can shift.

Expedited passport services are for travelers who need a faster result than they'd likely get by handling the process with the U.S. Department of State on their own. These third-party firms lean on expertise and established channels to file applications directly with passport agencies and, in many cases, snag hard-to-get agency appointments. They don't bend the government's rules - they improve access, not the official processing clock. In true emergencies or urgent travel, a passport can sometimes be turned around in about 24 hours, but the more typical window is roughly 1 to 3 weeks. You'll still need complete documents and an acceptable photo, and you should expect to pay a premium for the convenience.

Expect to pay a premium for these services - prices change based on how fast you need the passport and which company you choose. Even with a rush option, you'll still need all your paperwork in order and you'll be on the hook for any extra government fees. Many providers offer tiered packages with different turnaround guarantees, so compare what's included and the refund policy before you commit.

So, which passport service can get your passport to you fast? And which ones will just cause you extra stress and delays? Here are some criteria to help you choose the right one for your needs:

Passport Service FAQ

Do I need a passport to travel?
If you are a US citizen traveling outside of the country, you will need a passport. The only exceptions are US territories like Puerto Rico, the USVI, American Samoa and Guam. Gone are the days of traveling to Canada or Mexico with just a birth certificate in hand!
Will I need a visa or just a passport?
That depends on your destination. There are over 170 countries that do not require a visa for US citizens to enter, but nations such as China, Brazil and Chile have visa requirements.
How long is my passport valid?
If you were at least 16 years old when you got your passport, it will be valid for 10 years from the date of issue. On the other hand, if you were under 16, it will only be valid for 5 years.
How much does it cost to get a passport?
Fees for a passport can change at any time, but historically they've been set at $110 for an adult and $80 for a minor (under the age of 16). You may also have service fees charged by the location where you submit your application (e.g. the Post Office or local governmental facility), and you'll need to submit regulation passport photos.
What if I lose my passport?
First, report a lost or stolen passport to the US State Department (which can be done online or via phone at 877-487-2778). Next, if you are still in the US, you can apply for a replacement following the same procedures as a regular application. Or, if you are outside of the US, you should contact the nearest US embassy or consulate to get a replacement.
How quickly can I get a passport?
You can pay a $60 expedite fee and an extra $17.56 for 1-2 day delivery, but even then the State Department says your passport can take up to 6 weeks! If you have international travel scheduled within 72 hours, you may be able to get an in-person appointment - but in that case, as well as in the event of having a trip coming within that 6-week wait time, your best bet is probably to use a passport service.
What does a passport service do?
A passport service handles all of the paperwork and appointments to get your passport in hand. Believe it or not, it's possible to get your passport in hand within 24 hours!
Are passport services expensive?
They're more affordable than you might think, especially if you've got a trip that would be cancelled (with no refund!) without a passport in hand. You can get a one-business-day turnaround for under $300, and some passport services even offer emergency (same business day) options for that amount too. Keep in mind that those fees don't always include what the State Department charges for passport processing, or the expedited shipping to get your passport to you that quickly.
