The process for getting passports was massively impacted by the pandemic, with processing times and requirements devolving as the world adjusted to new travel norms. During the height of the pandemic, passport processing was severely disrupted. Many passport agencies were closed or operating with reduced staff, leading to massive backlogs and long waits for travelers needing to renew or obtain new passports.
While the situation has improved, there are still some lingering effects that travelers should be aware of. Now, standard passport processing times have stabilized somewhat but remain longer than pre-pandemic levels. On average, it can still take anywhere from 10 to 13 weeks to receive a passport after submitting your application through traditional methods (like going to the post office or another passport acceptance facility).

When you need a service you can trust to get your passport quickly, look no further than Passport Visas Express. This company remains at the top of our list for providing competitively-priced expediting services, top-notch customer service, and clearly-explained processes for getting your paperwork submitted accurately. There's even a concierge service if you need a little extra hand-holding along the way. Clients rave about the professionalism and courtesy at Passport Visas Express, with more than 6,300 people giving this service a perfect 5-star score. We do too.
Travel Visa Pro offers world-class service at bargain prices. You'll have a hard time finding any other passport expediting service that is as affordable as this one - while still being one of the most reliable and customer-friendly. TVP offers customer support on nights and weekends, beyond traditional business hours, and locations nationwide that provide lightning-fast passport services. It's no wonder that thousands of clients give Travel Visa Pro a perfect score, and we're happy to give this company a very enthusiastic recommendation.
Fast Passport Center is a great choice to get your passport expedited affordably and stress-free. They guarantee both your satisfaction and the lowest prices on all types of passport applications, and they've done so for over 350,000 clients so far. Those clients have great things to say about their experience here, and we're confident in saying that Fast Passport Center is absolutely worth a look if you need your passport in a hurry.
Passports and Visas can significantly cut down the time it takes to get your passport, without making a huge hole in your wallet. They've been around for over 30 years and have helped well-known organizations like Make-A-Wish and the LGPA with their passport and visa needs - as well as everyday people like you too. Services start at $149, but even their 3-day turnaround option is under $400. Passports and Visas have received nearly 10,000 5-star reviews. The handful of complaints they've also received do keep them from earning our highest rating, but we're impressed enough with Passports and Visas to give them a very good score.
If you'd like personalized attention as you rush to get a new or renewed passport, look no further than Fast Passports and Visas. This company takes great care of its clients, from offering transparent fees and turnaround times to making sure every document gets where it needs to be. The BBB thinks very highly of this service, offering an "A+” and accreditation in acknowledgement of the zero complaints filed against the company. While we'd need to see more client reviews to put Fast Passports and Visas at the top of our list, what's out there is compelling enough to earn this passport service a fantastic rating.
VisaHQ has served over a million people around the globe, coordinating all of the paperwork needed for passports and visas via 25 offices in 13 countries. The services for all types of passports (including new passports and renewal passports) are clearly priced, and we were glad to see thousands of reviews from people who said they'd recommend working with VisaHQ. We're still a little put off by the company's "F” rating from the BBB, but we're moving VisaHQ back up to an above-average rating because of the improvements in customer feedback since our previous evaluation.
Rush My Passport is a featured partner of AARP and AAA, but you can use this passport expediting service even without a membership there. They charge the same fees whether you're renewing your passport or getting a new one, starting at $119 for 8-week "Smart Service” and going up to $599 for 2-4 business day "Emergency Service”. While over 9,000 clients have left 5-star reviews for Rush My Passport, there's also a decent number of people who say that this service absolutely left them high and dry. That lands this expedited passport service a just-average rating from us.
Travisa is part of CIBT, a company known for providing immigration, visa, and passport services. If you need an expedited passport or are applying for the first time, Travisa is glad to help. However, be aware that for a fast passport, you'll still have to make an appointment with a local acceptance facility - and the time that it takes to have that appointment and submit your paperwork to Travisa adds several days to the process. While we've bumped Travisa's rating up by a star for some improvements they've made, we're still not seeing the kind of ample positive feedback needed to give this passport service anything higher.
Fastport Passport has been around since 2003, helping over 1.2 million clients to get expedited passports and visas from its headquarters in Brooklyn. They charge anywhere from $119 to $599 for both new and renewal passports, not including shipping and government fees. However, despite an "A” rating from the BBB, Fastport Passport's recent client feedback is almost 100% negative; customers say that they paid for a service that they never received (because no one answered the phone), or that the customer service was beyond bad. We've had to drop Fastport Passport in our rankings, and we recommend you look to higher-ranked rivals for better expedited passport services.
Despite being in business for over 30 years, Travel Document Systems (TDS) doesn't seem to be doing much for its clients these days. They're still stuck back in pandemic-era processing times - even though their rivals have been back up to speed for a while now. Their services are more limited, so it's no wonder that all of the feedback TDS has gotten is out of date (and wasn't that enthusiastic even in the most "recent” comments). You'll do much better to skip TDS and go with a higher-ranked passport service from our list.
If you opt for expedited processing through that route, you might reduce the wait time to around 7 to 9 weeks. This still represents a significant delay compared to the pre-pandemic era when standard processing typically took 6 to 8 weeks, and expedited processing was often completed in 2 to 3 weeks. It's no wonder that passport expediting services have become increasingly important.
Expedited passport services are designed to help travelers who need to obtain their passports more quickly than the standard or expedited processing times offered by the U.S. Department of State. Expediting services work by leveraging their connections and knowledge of the process to submit applications directly to the agencies that handle passports. They often have the ability to secure appointments at passport agencies, which are otherwise difficult to obtain. However, it's important to understand that these services do not magically cut the processing times in half. On rare occasions, they can help you get a passport in as little as 24 hours in cases of emergency or urgent travel, but more typically within 1 to 3 weeks.
Of course, these services come at a premium, with costs varying depending on how quickly you need the passport and the specific provider. It's also worth noting that even with an expediting service, you still need to have all your documents in order and be prepared to pay additional government fees.
