While the first impression of FragranceNet is that the site design is a little outdated (and doesn't quite fit a standard screen size), the actual site navigation is pretty simple. The fragrance tab has a lot of subpages on it, but it's easy enough to find the women's perfume and the men's cologne sections. Once we got to the shopping pages, we were a little disappointed. You can only filter by gender and brand. And once again, the brand names are offered in an alphabetical list that you either have to scroll or click on the corresponding letter. Another huge snag? There is no way to organize products by price.

• Full price range: Finding an accurate price range is close to impossible since you can't filter by price and each product doesn't show you any pricing unless you click on the product, making finding out how much you will spend a tedious process if you don't know exactly what you want.

To return items, you need to get an RMA number from the customer service department. You can return unopened items, excluding Skincare and Haircare products, in their original condition (so fragrances are allowed, but not if you've tried them first), along with the original packaging and packing slip. You have 30 days to begin the process, and you'll get a full refund, but shipping and gift wrapping charges won't be reimbursed.

Even if you've ordered the wrong product, a full refund is possible, but bear in mind that the items must be unopened and unused, and you'll need to cover postage costs. The company is committed to refunding postage costs for defective items or those sent in error.

Mixed reviews with some red flags

While Strawberrynet lacks a rating or accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, it compensates with tens of thousands of customer reviews across various online platforms. However, the feedback itself is somewhat mixed. On Trustpilot, the average rating is 4.1 stars out of 5. Happy customers praise the low prices and quick shipping. There isn't even a filter for unisex. There are only 1,180 different fragrance products at Perfumania. 673 of these are for women and 507 of them are for men. On the bright side, almost all of these are on sale from $20 to $40 off on average.

One distinctive feature of Perfumania is the significant discounts applied to all fragrances. Periodically, Perfumania runs promotions, such as "buy one item and get the second one free". Furthermore, orders $59+ qualify for free shipping, while those below this threshold incur a flat rate of $7.50 for delivery.

Perfumania's return policy allows customers to return unopened and unused merchandise within 30 days for a full refund. For this reason, you may want to double-check with customer service before purchasing. Either way, you won't be able to try it before processing a return, so it may not matter anyway.

Great service overall

Despite its lower-than-average inventory, Perfumania has a fairly impressive reputation. The company currently holds an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau and an impressive 4.7-star average from third-party review sites like Trustpilot. Customers love the service, especially for in-store shopping experiences. There are tons of reviews out there praising particular employees at Perfumania from store managers to regular employees who helped customers find their favorite scent. However, customers have noted one key drawback (and we have too): the limited selection at Perfumania is one of the main reasons this service does not get 5-star ratings from every customer. Many 4-star and under reviews show that the customers couldn't find their favorite scent because Perfumania doesn't offer that particular product or the whole brand.

Solid option despite missing inventory

While we love the great customer service and the ability to shop in person if you want to test your perfumes before you buy, the drawback of limited perfume products can be a sticking point for some customers. It's a great store if Perfumania has your preferred brands and products, but for many customers, shopping here can be frustrating due to completely absent brands. This is an impressive range of products and considering the inclusion of luxury brands as well as low-cost scents, Sobelia stands out from a range of perfume stores that only offer limited selections.

For our price comparison at Sobelia, we looked at a staple scent popular for years, a trending low-cost option, and a luxury perfume. While sales promise from 20%-70% off, the actual prices are about average. To cover specific brands in these three perfume types, we chose Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja Parfums, respectively. We also looked at the prices across all fragrances at Sobelia. Here's what we found:

However, to compare prices to other companies, we looked at three perfumes at each store to see how the prices change. We chose Tiffany & Co. Browsing Planet Beauty is a relaxing experience, except when it comes to finding perfume and cologne. The fragrance page is mixed in with things like hand creams and candles, making it hard to filter down to just the items you want. The filters include things like brand, skin concerns, ingredients, skin type, purpose, and formulation. The formulation filter is the most effective in finding perfumes, as you can select "liquid”, but this still leaves oils and other liquid, scented products in the lineup. If you want an easier way to limit the options, you have to look under the "men” and "women” tabs instead where you can click on "perfume” or "cologne" to finally limit products to what you want. Planet Beauty doesn't stand out as being the most intuitive perfume shop we've ever seen.

Extremely limited selection

For individuals seeking fragrances, the options at Planet Beauty are quite modest. You are presented with a mere 28 choices across both genders. Women get 26 scents to choose from while men face a restricted selection of just 2 fragrances. Furthermore, many fragrances come bundled with additional items like deodorant, lotion, aftershave, and bath soak, or things like aromatherapy sticks. Once you subtract these items, you are looking at just 17 perfumes for women. This limited selection might deter customers from considering Planet Beauty as their primary destination for perfumes. You're definitely missing out on major luxury brands at this retailer.

Filters are less intuitive

Navigating The Perfume Spot's website poses challenges, as the shopping experience is less intuitive compared to other retailers. Categories display a list of top perfume brands arranged alphabetically. However, you can easily click "Shop all” to get into the listing pages quicker. On the actual listing page, there are more alphabetical sorting filters along with price limitations and filters by scent. This isn't too bad if you know the name of the perfume you're looking for, but if you want to explore more freely, this can be a more cumbersome filtering system.

Separation of men's and women's fragrances is confusing

The perfume options at The Perfume Spot are surprisingly limited given the company's name. We expected far more than a total of 2,671 fragrances for a site that's literally named The Perfume Spot. However, there is some confusion about the genders on The Perfume Spot. If you look at Women's Perfume, it says there are 1,172 for women, 1 fragrance for men, and 323 unisex fragrances. On the other hand, if you look under the Men's Perfume page, the numbers are totally different. There are no women's scents listed on this page (of course) and it says there are 881 scents for men and 294 scents that are unisex.

Mid-tier costs and missing inventory

While the website's functionality may be lacking, The Perfume Spot shines in affordability. Although specific discounts in comparison to regular retail prices aren't explicitly stated, the claim of up to 70% off suggests substantial savings. However, to get into our cost comparison, we checked out three perfumes: Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja. We also checked on the highest and lowest prices on the site. Here's what we saw on The Perfume Spot:

• Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: There isn't Tiffany Rose Gold, but the standard Tiffany perfume is available for $102.40 for 2.5 oz
• Clean Classic Warm Cotton: There are also no perfumes from Clean Classic here either.
• Nuwa by Roja: We thought The Perfume Spot didn't have any Roja either. The search feature on the site showed nothing. But, in the men's section, we found Roja Aoud at $436.42 for 3 oz

In multiple cases, the search feature didn't show us relevant perfumes despite the company selling others in that brand family. For both Tiffany and Roja, we tried searching just the company names and The Perfume Spot said there were zero results, so customers may find this frustrating if they're looking for a particular perfume.

• Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: This item was not listed. A similar Tiffany perfume was offered for $84 for 1 oz. But, Beauty Encounter doesn't carry this exact fragrance.
• Clean Classic Warm Cotton: Disappointingly, Beauty Encounter doesn't offer the "Warm” variety; you can find "Cool Cotton” for $26 in a 5 oz bottle.
• Nuwa by Roja: $925 (on sale) for 3.4 oz
• Full price range: $20 to $2,800

30-day returns for store credit

You have the option to return most items for a refund within 30 days of receiving the merchandise, provided you have an approved Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. For items returned within 30 days of delivery in their original packaging, unopened, and unused, the company offers a store credit (you can't get your actual money back, you can only turn it into a different purchase at Beauty Encounter). If you choose a refund to the original form of payment, a 15% restocking fee and shipping and handling charges will be applied to the returned merchandise. However, this restocking fee is waived in cases of company error or product defects. While perfumes seem to be returnable, it is advisable to verify, especially when considering luxury brands, and you won't be able to try the perfume if you want to return it.
