The Best Perfume Stores

Where Can You Find the Best Perfume Store?

Finding the perfect fragrance is a journey for your olfactory senses. Perfume isn't just another beauty or self-care product. It has become a means of expressing your individuality, making a memorable statement, and adding a touch of sophistication to your grooming routine.

The overwhelming variety of scents found in the perfume section of a store can often lead to sensory overload, making it challenging to discern the nuances of each fragrance. This is where the convenience and efficiency of online shopping come into play. Many people prefer the comfort of shopping from home where you can still smell the perfume when it arrives and return it if it isn't perfect.

Best Perfume Stores

Slightly higher prices but a full inventory

Perfume.com offers discounts reaching up to 70% off, and you can find free shipping on orders of $35 or more. Now, to check out the prices at Perfume.com compared to other retailers, we looked at Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja Parfums at each company. We also looked at the full range of prices across all fragrances for an idea of how low and high the prices at Perfume.com can get. Here's what we found:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: $131.98 for a 2.5 oz bottle
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: $43.60 for a 2 oz bottle
  • Nuwa by Roja: $1,028.49 for a 3.4 oz bottle

And, since refunds require the item to be unopened, there's no try-when-you-buy here.

Best Perfume Stores

Rave reviews for a solid reputation

Standing out with its impressive reputation, Perfume.com is a fan-favorite site for finding fragrances. The company holds an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, you can find solid reviews from third-party review sites like Sitejabber. Customers who loved Perfume.com praised the quality of the products, the massive selection, and fast (and free) shipping. There were no recent complaints as of the time of this review, and Sitjabber noted that Perfume.com was rated #1 among perfume companies on its platform.

Top pick for best selection

Considering all the positives of shopping at Perfume.com, it will come as no surprise that this is our top pick for our review. Perfume.com has it all. The company offers every perfume option in our price comparison, it offers luxury scents, affordable scents, and everything in between. With sales up to 70% off, a competitive return policy, and an "A+" rating to back up Perfume.com's authenticity, we happily award it a 5-star score and the #1 spot in our review.

Ulta Review 4.5 Star Rating

4.5 Star Rating
  • Priced from $10.49 to $250
  • 1,088 fragrances offered
  • Options for men and women
  • 60-day returns in store and online
  • Free gifts with purchase
  • "A+" rating from the BBB

Ulta, an American beauty store chain, offers a range of beauty products, including cosmetics, skincare items, fragrances, nail products, and bath and body essentials. With a commitment to employee diversity, Ulta takes pride in having over 92% of its store associates being women. Operating both as a brick-and-mortar retailer with over 1,120 locations and a thriving online store, Ulta serves as a comprehensive destination for customers to meet all their beauty needs, especially for perfume.

Clean site and easy browsing experience

Browsing on Ulta's website is a breeze. The minimal design along with easy-to-use quick links and a "shop all fragrance" button helps you jump right into your favorite scents. There are 8 different filters to help you narrow down your options including:

  • Category (for gender)
  • Scent
  • Fragrance type
  • Preferences (for extras like "cruelty-free" or "contains CBD" )
  • Brand
  • Price
  • Special offers
  • Shopping preferences (for online-only brands or items you can buy in-store)

Solid selection for a one-stop shop site

In contrast to some perfume stores that emphasize massive discounts, Ulta positions itself as a reliable retailer where customers can acquire genuine, high-quality, name-brand fragrances. Ulta offers 1,088 different perfumes. 691 of these options are for women, and there are 214 for men, available in multiple sizes. This is impressive for a company that doesn't "specialize" in fragrance.

Best Perfume Stores

Fair prices with free gifts

While Ulta's prices are fair and align with expectations for name-brand products, this isn't the biggest discount store you can find. However, if trustworthiness is your top priority, paying a little extra at Ulta is worth it. Customers often receive complimentary gifts with purchases, and seasonal deals, such as buy one, get one free, are not uncommon. Staying informed about these discounts is facilitated through Ulta's email subscription list and regular checks of their website.

Cost comparison

During our cost comparison, we checked out the same three perfumes at each store. We chose one long-time staple (Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum), one trending and low-cost perfume (Clean Classic Warm Cotton), and one luxury brand perfume (Nuwa by Roja Parfums). We also checked out the full range of prices across the entire selection. Here's what we saw on Ulta:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: $175.00 for 2.5 oz
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: $75 for a 2 oz bottle.
  • Nuwa by Roja: Ulta doesn't offer some of the extremely expensive brands like Roja. They do have some Dior, but those are the highest-cost options (around $200 to $250) in the store.
  • Full price range: $10.49 to $250

60-day returns in person and online

Ulta provides a hassle-free shopping experience, offering free shipping for orders of $35 or more. For those seeking to get their perfume right away, online purchases can be picked up the same day from nearby Ulta stores. The retailer also extends a generous 60-day return policy, allowing customers to receive a full refund within this timeframe. Plus, the option to return items in-store adds convenience and flexibility to the process.

Best Perfume Stores

Top-rated and trustworthy

Ulta's products receive high praise from customers, evident in the numerous reviews available for each item. Most fragrances on Ulta's platform garner ratings averaging nearly 5 out of 5 stars, underscoring the high satisfaction levels with their perfume selection. Further enhancing their credibility, Ulta holds an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, instilling confidence in online shopping through their platform.

Second place and most trustworthy retailer

As one of the most popular beauty chains, Ulta has earned its reputation as a reliable and frequently-shopped retailer. While not positioned as a provider of "cheap" products, Ulta guarantees quality and authenticity, eliminating concerns about purchasing counterfeit fragrances. Undoubtedly, Ulta stands out as one of the best online destinations for perfume and other beauty products, earning an excellent rating in our review. It only takes second place rather than first due to not offering luxury brand fragrances like our top choice.

FragranceNet Review 4.5 Star Rating

4.5 Star Rating
  • Priced around $52.99 to $629.99
  • 21,996 fragrances offered
  • Options for men, women, unisex, and children
  • Luxury brands included
  • 30-day returns
  • "A+" rating from the BBB

Since 1997, FragranceNet has been a reliable online destination. With over 30 million packages shipped and more than $3 billion in beauty products sold, it has earned a solid reputation in the industry.

Over 40,000 fragrances

The vast selection of 40,000 genuine, brand-name fragrances, skincare, makeup, haircare, aromatherapy, and candles is available at discounted prices. Plus, you can enjoy free shipping in the U.S. on most orders. And you can rest assured that every product on FragranceNet is an authentic brand name, with absolutely no imitations or knock-offs.

Old-fashioned site design

While the first impression of FragranceNet is that the site design is a little outdated (and doesn't quite fit a standard screen size), the actual site navigation is pretty simple. The fragrance tab has a lot of subpages on it, but it's easy enough to find the women's perfume and the men's cologne sections. Once we got to the shopping pages, we were a little disappointed. You can only filter by gender and brand. And once again, the brand names are offered in an alphabetical list that you either have to scroll or click on the corresponding letter. Another huge snag? There is no way to organize products by price.

Best Perfume Stores

20,000+ perfumes on sale

The perfume selection is impressively large. Covering men, women, children, and unisex scents, the total number of fragrances offered by FragranceNet is 21,996. For just women, there are over 10,000 different fragrances to choose from. Men have 7,802, unisex 3,892, and children 43. So, if you're going to find your fragrance anywhere, FragranceNet is going to be the place.

Some problems with seeing prices

We compared the prices at all our retailers by comparing the same perfumes at each store. To cover the different fragrance shopping needs, we chose Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum as a long-time staple, Clean Classic Warm Cotton as a trending low-cost fragrance, and Nuwa by Roja Parfums as a luxury brand. We also looked at the range of prices across the fragrance section of the site. Here's what we found at FragranceNet:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: $159.99 for 2.5 oz
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: $52.99 for 2 oz
  • Nuwa by Roja: Sold out at the time of our review. A similar option, Roja Aoud, was $629.99 for 3.4 oz.
  • Full price range: Finding an accurate price range is close to impossible since you can't filter by price and each product doesn't show you any pricing unless you click on the product, making finding out how much you will spend a tedious process if you don't know exactly what you want.

30-day returns minus shipping

To return items, you need to get an RMA number from the customer service department. You can return unopened items, excluding Skincare and Haircare products, in their original condition (so fragrances are allowed, but not if you've tried them first), along with the original packaging and packing slip. You have 30 days to begin the process, and you'll get a full refund, but shipping and gift wrapping charges won't be reimbursed.

Best Perfume Stores

Top-notch reputation

Despite some frustrations with the site design, FragranceNet stands out with its reputation. The company has an impressive "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, FragranceNet holds a 4.1-star average from third-party review sites like Trustpilot. Praise for the site includes reviews highlighting the authenticity of the products on sale, top-notch customer service when problems arise, and the amount discounted off the price for high-end items.

Highly recommended despite the UI

Despite the site needing a bit of a cleanup and redesign, the impressive inventory and solid discounts help FragranceNet shine. On top of these benefits, you can trust FragranceNet to send you the real thing; confidence that's supported by the BBB's "A+" rating and impressive review feedback from customers just like you. Considering all the benefits, FragranceNet gets a solid rating in our review.

Strawberrynet Review 4 Star Rating

4 Star Rating
  • Priced from $4.50 to $568
  • 3,542 fragrances offered
  • Options for men and women
  • One-stop shop for skin, hair, and fragrance
  • 30-day returns
  • Free shipping on $50+

Known as both "Strawberrynet" and "Strawberry," this Hong Kong-based company is committed to providing customers with discounted beauty products. Great UI and trustworthy practices

Browsing Strawberrynet is a breeze. The company has a clean website design with colorful listings and easy-to-find tabs that guide you directly to the products you want. You can find skincare, makeup, haircare, men's cologne, women's perfume, home scents, men's skincare, health, and specials. Once you get to the listings, there are plenty of helpful filters as well as detailed information on each listing. One of Strawberrynet's distinctive features is its commitment to guaranteeing the freshness and authenticity of all beauty products. 3,542 different fragrances to choose from

Best Perfume Stores

Reasonable prices, but missing some mainstays

We compared costs at different retailers by checking out the same three perfumes at each store. To cover our bases, we chose one long-time staple, Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum; one trending, low-cost perfume, Clean Classic Warm Cotton; and one luxury brand perfume, Nuwa by Roja Parfums. We also checked out the full range of prices across the entire selection. Here's what we saw on Strawberrynet:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: This item was not listed. A similar Tiffany perfume (Tiffany Sheer) was offered for $108 for 2.5 oz. But Strawberrynet doesn't offer the Rose Gold favorite.
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: $52.50 for a 2 oz bottle.
  • Nuwa by Roja: Strawberrynet doesn't offer any products by Roja.
  • Full price range: $4.50 to $568

30-day returns

One nice feature of Strawberrynet is its updated return policy. If you're not satisfied with any item you've received, notify the company via email within 30 days of receiving it for authorization to return. This policy applies to skincare products, perfumes, and makeup. Even if you've ordered the wrong product, a full refund is possible, but bear in mind that the items must be unopened and unused, and you'll need to cover postage costs. The company is committed to refunding postage costs for defective items or those sent in error.

Best Perfume Stores

Mixed reviews with some red flags

While Strawberrynet lacks a rating or accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, it compensates with tens of thousands of customer reviews across various online platforms. However, the feedback itself is somewhat mixed. On Trustpilot, the average rating is 4.1 stars out of 5. Happy customers praise the low prices and quick shipping. On the other hand, on Sitejabber Strawberrynet has only 1.67 stars out of 5. The negatives include complaints about too many promotional emails, poor customer service, and some customers receiving products that were expired. Given that this is a much more negative reputation overall, we're a little concerned that Strawberrynet may not be as trustworthy as it was before.

Still worth shopping

Despite the limitation on fragrance returns, the company stands out as a reliable source of affordable, name-brand perfumes. With recent dings to the company's reputation, it has slid down in our rankings a bit. Still, Strawberrynet is worth considering for your next perfume purchase.

Perfumania Review 3.5 Star Rating

3.5 Star Rating
  • Priced from $4.47 to $470.95
  • 1,180 fragrances offered
  • Options for men and women
  • Some luxury brands included
  • 30-day returns for unopened items
  • $20 to $30 off on average
  • "A-" rating from the BBB

Perfumania, established in 1999, is one of the largest fragrance retailers in the United States, offering a selection of scents and related gifts for individuals of all ages. With a widespread presence and over 100 discount retail stores across the country, Perfumania stocks an array of renowned brands such as Burberry, Christian Dior, Prada, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, and Gucci, providing customers with a range of choices for perfume or cologne.

Impressive site design

Perfumania has an impressive modern site with clean text and photo design making it easy to navigate. You can start off by choosing a gender to shop through, choosing from a list of brands, or shopping by themes like "clearance," "beauty," or "best sellers." To facilitate customer inquiries during the online shopping experience, Perfumania offers real-time chat support through a pop-up chat box. And, if you'd prefer to shop in person, you can use the store locator tool in the top left of the screen to find your nearest Perfumania store. The listings themselves are easy to browse with filters for brand, gender, price, and type of product.

Limited selection

However, Perfumania doesn't stand out in its product variety as well as some competitors. There are only products for men and women for scents and none for children. There isn't even a filter for unisex. There are only 1,180 different fragrance products at Perfumania. 673 of these are for women and 507 of them are for men. On the bright side, almost all of these are on sale from $20 to $40 off on average.

Best Perfume Stores

Competitive prices but missing major brands

One distinctive feature of Perfumania is the significant discounts applied to all fragrances. Periodically, Perfumania runs promotions, such as "buy one item and get the second one free". Furthermore, orders $59+ qualify for free shipping, while those below this threshold incur a flat rate of $7.50 for delivery.

Price comparison

To compare Perfumania's prices to other companies, we looked at three perfumes: a staple scent popular for years, a trending low-cost option, and a luxury perfume. We chose Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja Parfums. We also looked at the range of prices across the entire site. Here's what we found:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: Perfumania didn't carry the Rose Gold perfume by Tiffany. Instead, we found a similar product (Tiffany) for $101.95 to $129.95 in a 1.5 oz or 2.5 oz bottle. This was notably the only Tiffany perfume on the site.
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: $23.95 to $48.95 for 1 or 2 oz bottles
  • Nuwa by Roja: Perfumania did not carry any perfumes or colognes by Roja, showing a rather large gap in its inventory.
  • Full price range: $4.47 to $470.95

30-day returns for unopened products

Perfumania's return policy allows customers to return unopened and unused merchandise within 30 days for a full refund. Certain products, including cosmetics, skincare, and hair care items, are non-returnable due to health considerations. For this reason, you may want to double-check with customer service before purchasing. Either way, you won't be able to try it before processing a return, so it may not matter anyway.

Best Perfume Stores

Great service overall

Despite its lower-than-average inventory, Perfumania has a fairly impressive reputation. The company currently holds an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau and an impressive 4.7-star average from third-party review sites like Trustpilot. Customers love the service, especially for in-store shopping experiences. There are tons of reviews out there praising particular employees at Perfumania from store managers to regular employees who helped customers find their favorite scent. However, customers have noted one key drawback (and we have too): the limited selection at Perfumania is one of the main reasons this service does not get 5-star ratings from every customer. Many 4-star and under reviews show that the customers couldn't find their favorite scent because Perfumania doesn't offer that particular product or the whole brand.

Solid option despite missing inventory

While we love the great customer service and the ability to shop in person if you want to test your perfumes before you buy, the drawback of limited perfume products can be a sticking point for some customers. It's a great store if Perfumania has your preferred brands and products, but for many customers, shopping here can be frustrating due to completely absent brands. We definitely recommend you check them out but be prepared for some options to be notably missing from Perfumania's lineup.

Sobelia Review 3.5 Star Rating

3.5 Star Rating
  • Priced from $5.99 to $960.99
  • 8,000+ fragrances offered
  • Options for men, women, and kids
  • 14-day returns
  • Between 20%-70% off

Established in 2004, Sobelia specializes in offering a range of luxury perfumes for men, women, and children. Originating as an eBay and Amazon seller, Sobelia is now a global player based in the United States, but it ships to customers across the globe. The website is designed to be accessible in different languages, making it easy to switch from English to Spanish or French depending on where you're browsing from.

Site content needs a grammar review

Unfortunately, Sobelia falls short of providing comprehensive information on its website. The platform primarily showcases perfumes, language/country options, and a customer service contact number. Notably absent is crucial information about their return policy, and the FAQ section (and finding that FAQ section is a bit of a hassle), written in somewhat broken English, could benefit from clarity and refinement. Further, there are instances of broken English across the site including "Men Perfume" and "Women Perfume" in some places where others it's written properly as "Men's" and "Women's" .

8,000+ options to choose from

Sobelia prides itself on providing over 8,000 name-brand fragrances at prices up to 60% lower than typical retail costs. The extensive selection encompasses renowned brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Lancome, Versace, and many more. You'll find around 3,100 fragrances in the men's section and around 5,400 different fragrances in the women's section. For children, you can browse through over 150 fragrances. This is an impressive range of products and considering the inclusion of luxury brands as well as low-cost scents, Sobelia stands out from a range of perfume stores that only offer limited selections.

Best Perfume Stores

Higher than-average prices

For our price comparison at Sobelia, we looked at a staple scent popular for years, a trending low-cost option, and a luxury perfume. While sales promise from 20%-70% off, the actual prices are about average. To cover specific brands in these three perfume types, we chose Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja Parfums, respectively. We also looked at the prices across all fragrances at Sobelia. Here's what we found:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: $130.99-162.99 for a 1.6 oz or 2.5 oz bottle.
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: $37.00 to $62.99 for a 1 oz or 2 oz bottle.
  • Nuwa by Roja: $960.99 for a 3.3 oz bottle
  • Full price range: $5.99 to $960.99

Notably, these prices are higher than at other competitors; however, Sobelia does have one of the widest varieties out there.

14-day return policy

A closer look at Sobelia's policies reveals a tight cancellation policy for returns. Customers must send back items in new, unused condition within 14 days to qualify for a "cancellation." Return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility, and if the items aren't in perfect condition, you may not get the full amount back. Further, customers who don't get their items sent back "within the cancellation period" will not receive any refunds at all.

Best Perfume Stores

An "ordinary" experience

Despite lacking a Better Business Bureau rating or accreditation, Sobelia garners fairly positive feedback from customers. Trustpilot shows that Sobelia has an average rating of 3.8 stars out of 5. Most of the reviews about the products praise the quality of the perfume and the quick shipping. The poor reviews note that there are problems with the site design and that Sobelia could use a bit of an update. Many reviews are calling the experience at Sobelia "ordinary" without any particularly low prices or exciting brands to help it stand out.

Inventory makes this service above-average

If you're seeking a great deal on a beloved perfume, Sobelia doesn't offer the lowest prices out there, so you may be a little disappointed. However, if you're looking for a place where you can buy fragrance for the whole family (with tons of designer and low-cost brands to choose from), Sobelia may be worth your time. Considering that they had all of our comparison fragrances in stock, Sobelia stands out from many other retailers in our review.

The Perfume Box Review 3 Star Rating

The Perfume Box

3 Star Rating
  • Priced from $2.95 to $557.95
  • 4,578 fragrances offered
  • Options for men and women
  • Some luxury brands included
  • 30-day returns for unopened items, restocking fee on open-box returns
  • Up to 80% off on average

Operating for over three decades, The Perfume Box stands as a family-owned company committed to providing customers with genuine perfumes and colognes at significantly discounted prices. Promising authenticity, the company dispatches all products in their original manufacturer packaging. The company strives for your complete satisfaction and it regularly updates and expands its product offerings. If there's a specific product you're searching for but can't locate, The Perfume Box asks that you reach out to its customer service team to see what they can do to get it for you.

Cluttered front page, but easy navigation

When first landing on The Perfume Box's site can feel like you're flipping through a fragrance magazine with large colorful photos plastered across the page, you can easily start navigating to the page that's right for you. The options are organized by gender, new releases, brands, and gift sets. You can also find a variety of bath and body products under the other headings, in case you want to match your perfume or cologne to your body wash too. The listings themselves give details on the sizes offered, pricing, and star ratings for individual products.

4,578 different fragrance options

The fragrance selection at The Perfume Box offers scents for both men and women. With over 2,488 fragrances for women and 2,090 for men, customers can choose individual perfumes and colognes or opt for gift sets containing a mix of body creams, hair and body mists, perfumes, colognes, or mini sprays. The fragrance inventory offers 4,578 different products that include popular brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Bebe, Beyonce, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Bahama, Victoria's Secret, and many more.

Best Perfume Stores

Lower-than average costs

The Perfume Box offers discounts reaching up to 80% off retail prices, a 5% off coupon when you first subscribe to its email list, and you can enjoy free shipping on orders of $59 or more. Now, to compare the prices of The Perfume Box's specific products to other companies, we looked at a staple scent popular for years, a trending low-cost option, and a luxury perfume. For these, we chose the Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja Parfums, respectively. We also looked at the full range of prices across all fragrances so you can see the low and high end. Here's what we found:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: Surprisingly, The Perfume Box didn't carry the Rose Gold perfume by Tiffany. Instead, we found a similar Tiffany (Tiffany Eau) product for $99.50 for a 2.5 oz bottle.
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: The Perfume Box also didn't offer anything by Clean Classic.
  • Nuwa by Roja: The Perfume Box also didn't have Nuwa by Roja. We found a different Roja scent (Aoud) which cost $469.99 for 3.3 oz.
  • Full price range: $2.95 to $557.95

It's clear that despite the large inventory, The Perfume Box is missing some pretty major luxury brands as well as some more affordable fragrances.

Limited returns for perfumes you've tried

The company provides flexibility in returns, allowing customers to return faulty or damaged items within 30 days for a refund or replacement. You will need to provide photo proof of damaged products to get your refund. If it's just that you've changed your mind about an order, you can contact customer service within 30 days. However, opened or used items incur a 20% restocking fee, along with shipping and handling costs. Still, given that most of the perfume stores we reviewed don't allow any returns for opened products, this is a slight edge for The Perfume Box.

Best Perfume Stores

Reviewers are mostly happy

While The Perfume Box received an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau due to some ignored complaints, positive customer reviews across other platforms highlight the company's competitive prices, fast delivery, and diverse selection. For example, on Trustpilot, The Perfume Box has an average rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. The most recent reviews include praise for fast shipping, but then others right after say shipping is slow. So, there are still some mixed messages despite the 4.5-star average.

Mid-tier retailer overall

Overall, customers are satisfied with The Perfume Box, and the favorable feedback suggests that the retailer remains a reliable choice for purchasing perfumes despite the BBB rating. However, during our research, none of our comparison fragrances were available at The Perfume Box. At other retailers, we could find at least one of the three no matter what. Though the site promises you can ask them for perfumes that are missing, this still raises some questions about the seemingly large inventory. For this reason, along with the "F" rating and the limited return policy (with fees), we award The Perfume Box with a middle-of-the-road rating. It's not a bad spot to shop, but it only comes in as a mid-tier retailer compared to other perfume stores in our review.

Fragrance X Review 2.5 Star Rating

Fragrance X

2.5 Star Rating
  • Priced from $1.99 to $977.49
  • 5,380 fragrances offered
  • Options for men, women, and unisex
  • Luxury brands included
  • 30-day returns for opened items
  • 15% off coupons
  • "A-" rating from the BBB

Fragrance X asserts itself as the provider of the world's most extensive fragrance selection at the most affordable prices. Originating in Long Island, New York, in 2001, Fragrance X offers a wide selection of popular luxury perfume brands at discounts of up to 80% off the retail price.

Reliable reputation

Fragrance X has established itself as a reliable online marketplace for fragrance shopping over the years, and customer testimonials support this reputation. Concerned about the authenticity of the perfumes? There's no need to worry. The company guarantees that every designer perfume sold is 100% authentic, and they reinforce this commitment with a generous money-back return policy if you're not completely satisfied. Fragrance X also offers a wide range of high-quality products, including hard-to-find and discontinued fragrances.

Clean and modern website

The browsing experience on Fragrance X is clean and minimal, using a mix of easy-to-find perfume categories along with high-res images to guide you toward what you need most. As this store specializes in perfume and fragrance, you won't have to look through any categories other than Women's, Men's, or Brands to start shopping right away. You can filter fragrances by gender, brand, season, and scent notes to help you find your perfect perfume match. Though it's harder to find on the site, you can also buy things like shower gels and body wash from Fragrance X.

Best Perfume Stores

5,380 different fragrances

Fragrance X offers a range of 5,380 different perfumes and colognes for sale. There are 3,895 products for women's perfumes and 2,675 different colognes for men. There are also 1,191 unisex fragrances to choose from. There aren't any options listed for children, but there are a range of luxury brands and popular fragrances available at Fragrance X.

Impressive sale prices

Fragrance X tempts customers with shockingly low prices and an additional 15% off for those who subscribe to their email list. However, to compare prices to other companies, we looked at three perfumes at each store to see how the prices change. We chose Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum (a long-time staple), Clean Classic Warm Cotton (a trending low-cost perfume), and Nuwa by Roja Parfums (a luxury brand). We also looked at the range of prices across the entire selection at Fragrance X. Here's what we found:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: $119.99 for 2.5 oz.
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: $27.38 to $39.64 for 1 or 2.14 oz bottles
  • Nuwa by Roja: $934.99 for a 3.4 oz bottle. Or $841.49 if you buy it unboxed.
  • Full price range: $1.99 to $977.49

30-day returns with charges

The return policy at Fragrance X allows customers a 30-day window after the ship date for a full refund, provided the item is not "excessively used" . However, the refund process involves deductions for shipping and ambiguous "gift wrap" charges, leaving us questioning the actual cost of their returns. Contradicting their advertised "free returns," all refunds incur a $5.95 deduction for shipping. But, shipping out from Fragrance X is free, offering better prices during purchase.

Best Perfume Stores

Better service than before, but some concerns still

Fragrance X has raised its reputation since the last time we reviewed it. While the company formerly held a "B+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, it now holds an "A-" rating instead. However, despite the sea of overwhelmingly positive reviews on third-party sites like Trustpilot and Sitejabber, a significant number of dissatisfied customers allege that Fragrance X might be operating as a scam, with claims of undelivered orders. On average, Fragrance X holds a 3.9-star average from Trustpilot and a 4-star average from Sitejabber. Most reviews from recent years are 5 stars, which could show that Fragrance X is working to solve problems customers had with not receiving orders.

Still needs more customer service

While Fragrance X's allure lies in its hard-to-beat prices, the lingering concerns surrounding returns, some questionable customer reviews, and genuine customer complaints paint a concerning picture. While Fragrance X's reputation has gone up in recent years, there are still concerns about scams or orders that are never received. In light of these issues, there may be more reliable options available for those shopping for their next perfume purchase.

Planet Beauty Review 1.5 Star Rating

Planet Beauty

1.5 Star Rating
  • Priced from $20 to $80
  • 28 fragrances offered
  • Options for men and women
  • 30-day returns with fees
  • Up to 20% off

Founded in 1992 with its roots in Irvine, California, Planet Beauty strives to be a comprehensive online retailer offering products for beauty including makeup, skincare, hair care, body treatments, and, of course, perfume and cologne. The company's mission is to serve as a one-stop destination for both professional beauty and personal care products. While their expansive inventory encompasses numerous name-brand beauty items, it's worth noting that their fragrance selection is relatively limited.

Hard to filter for perfume and cologne

Browsing Planet Beauty is a relaxing experience, except when it comes to finding perfume and cologne. The fragrance page is mixed in with things like hand creams and candles, making it hard to filter down to just the items you want. The filters include things like brand, skin concerns, ingredients, skin type, purpose, and formulation. The formulation filter is the most effective in finding perfumes, as you can select "liquid" , but this still leaves oils and other liquid, scented products in the lineup. If you want an easier way to limit the options, you have to look under the "men" and "women" tabs instead where you can click on "perfume" or "cologne" to finally limit products to what you want. Planet Beauty doesn't stand out as being the most intuitive perfume shop we've ever seen.

Extremely limited selection

For individuals seeking fragrances, the options at Planet Beauty are quite modest. You are presented with a mere 28 choices across both genders. Women get 26 scents to choose from while men face a restricted selection of just 2 fragrances. Furthermore, many fragrances come bundled with additional items like deodorant, lotion, aftershave, and bath soak, or things like aromatherapy sticks. Once you subtract these items, you are looking at just 17 perfumes for women. This limited selection might deter customers from considering Planet Beauty as their primary destination for perfumes. You're definitely missing out on major luxury brands at this retailer.

Low prices but limited options

Planet Beauty maintains reasonable prices for its perfume and cologne selection, emphasizing quality over massive discounts. By subscribing to their email updates, you can receive a 20% discount code for their next order. Unlike some competitors, Planet Beauty requires customers to provide their phone number and consent to receive marketing text messages. Now, let's take a look at the listed prices for Planet Beauty. To give you an idea of the price ranges, we normally look at a scent popular for years, a trending low-cost option, and a luxury perfume. However, none of these were available at Planet Beauty. We usually look at the prices for the Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja Parfums, but Planet Beauty doesn't offer any of these brands at all. So, the only pricing comparison we could make was to offer you the complete price range for Planet Beauty's limited inventory: $20 to $80 for brands like Paul Mitchell or L'Occitane.

Best Perfume Stores

30-day returns with fees

Planet Beauty provides free shipping for orders exceeding $59. For orders below this threshold, a shipping fee of $6.50 is applied. In terms of returns, the company offers a 30-day window for customers to initiate returns from the original purchase date, with a full refund processed to the original payment method. However, if you received free shipping initially, you'll have to pay a $5.99 return shipping fee if you want to send back your products.

Concerns about faulty coupons

Planet Beauty's reputation has taken a significant hit recently. The company used to hold an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, indicating the retailer's solid business practices. However, in recent years that rating has fallen all the way to an "F" . On the other hand, reviews from third-party sites show a different story. Planet Beauty holds a 4.3-star average from Trustpilot. Overall, customers really like the sales and fast shipping, but there are multiple concerns about coupons not working as promised.

Limited inventory isn't worth the trouble

While Planet Beauty lacks an extensive fragrance selection, it has garnered positive reviews for fast shipping. However, for most customers who like name-brand fragrances or luxury products, Planet Beauty is going to be a waste of time. They only have a handful of options and none of them include brands like Tiffany or even other brands like Burberry or Roja. On top of that, the company has slid to an "F" rating from the BBB, which is highly concerning.

The Perfume Spot Review 1.5 Star Rating

The Perfume Spot

1.5 Star Rating
  • Priced from $3.50 to $436.42
  • 2,671 fragrances offered
  • Options for men and women
  • 30-day returns
  • Up to 70% off

Hailing from New Jersey, The Perfume Spot is a family-owned enterprise specializing in wholesale perfumes since 1986. The company moved to offer online sales in 1999, and it has won accolades such as the Bizrate Platinum Circle of Excellence, Yahoo Top Service, Easy Shopping, and Top Destination.

More than just perfume

The company extends its offerings beyond perfumes and colognes to include bath and body products and candles. Plus, with a wide variety of brands and products, you can expect to find scents from top brands like Calvin Klein, Elizabeth Arden, Bvlgari, Coty, Burberry, Versace, Perry Ellis, Beverly Hills Polo Club, Cuba, and Givenchy.

Filters are less intuitive

Navigating The Perfume Spot's website poses challenges, as the shopping experience is less intuitive compared to other retailers. Categories display a list of top perfume brands arranged alphabetically. However, you can easily click "Shop all" to get into the listing pages quicker. On the actual listing page, there are more alphabetical sorting filters along with price limitations and filters by scent. This isn't too bad if you know the name of the perfume you're looking for, but if you want to explore more freely, this can be a more cumbersome filtering system.

Best Perfume Stores

Separation of men's and women's fragrances is confusing

The perfume options at The Perfume Spot are surprisingly limited given the company's name. We expected far more than a total of 2,671 fragrances for a site that's literally named The Perfume Spot. However, there is some confusion about the genders on The Perfume Spot. If you look at Women's Perfume, it says there are 1,172 for women, 1 fragrance for men, and 323 unisex fragrances. On the other hand, if you look under the Men's Perfume page, the numbers are totally different. There are no women's scents listed on this page (of course) and it says there are 881 scents for men and 294 scents that are unisex.

Mid-tier costs and missing inventory

While the website's functionality may be lacking, The Perfume Spot shines in affordability. Although specific discounts in comparison to regular retail prices aren't explicitly stated, the claim of up to 70% off suggests substantial savings. However, to get into our cost comparison, we checked out three perfumes: Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum, Clean Classic Warm Cotton, and Nuwa by Roja. We also checked on the highest and lowest prices on the site. Here's what we saw on The Perfume Spot:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: There isn't Tiffany Rose Gold, but the standard Tiffany perfume is available for $102.40 for 2.5 oz
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: There are also no perfumes from Clean Classic here either.
  • Nuwa by Roja: We thought The Perfume Spot didn't have any Roja either. The search feature on the site showed nothing. But, in the men's section, we found Roja Aoud at $436.42 for 3 oz
  • Full price range: $3.50 to $436.42

In multiple cases, the search feature didn't show us relevant perfumes despite the company selling others in that brand family. For both Tiffany and Roja, we tried searching just the company names and The Perfume Spot said there were zero results, so customers may find this frustrating if they're looking for a particular perfume.

30-day returns with fees

The Perfume Spot adheres to a standard 30-day return policy, as well as offering free standard shipping for all orders, with expedited delivery available for $4.95. The return process entails sending the item back in its original packaging within 30 days for a full refund, while opened items incur a 20% restocking fee.

Best Perfume Stores

Reputation is concerning

Customer reviews at The Perfume Spot suggest that you might want to find another retailer. The company holds a concerning "D" rating from the Better Business Bureau, citing reported and unresolved customer complaints. The limited number of online customer reviews makes it challenging to gauge overall customer satisfaction, but the average rating is around 3 stars overall. Multiple reviews on Trustpilot claim that some of the products sold on The Perfume Spot are fake and the most recent of these reviews was from 2024. The last positive review, on the other hand, was from back in 2019.

Not trustworthy enough

With the "D" rating and the lack of extensive customer feedback, The Perfume Spot is no longer considered a reliable option. With customers concerned about fake items and fragrances, it doesn't seem worth the hassle to get your perfume from The Perfume Spot. Especially as you may incur a 20% restocking fee if you try to return the items. Given these concerns, it's best if you direct your shopping toward one of our higher-rated retailers instead.

Beauty Encounter Review 1 Star Rating

Beauty Encounter

1 Star Rating
  • Priced from $20 to $2,800
  • 6,575 fragrances offered
  • Options for men, women, unisex, children, and pets
  • Luxury brands included
  • 30-day returns for store credit

Beauty Encounter, established in 2000, aims to be a trusted and cost-effective online destination for a wide range of beauty products, and items, including fragrances, skincare, haircare, and makeup. Offering a one-stop-shop approach for beauty products across the board, you can explore over 500 brands at Beauty Encounter.

Commitment to quality

Collaborating only with trusted vendors and suppliers who source directly from manufacturers or distributors, Beauty Encounter meticulously examines each item for quality and authenticity. With a commitment to affordability, the company endeavors to simplify the process of purchasing perfume online.

Browsing is a little slow

Getting started here is simple, but there are a few snags. The website for Beauty Encounter is extremely slow. When you click on an option or try to change the organization of products, it can take up to 30 seconds to reload the page. This was the same on multiple browsers. When you get to the perfume section, the products can be sorted by brand and price, providing customers with a streamlined shopping experience. Product descriptions include details about ingredients, season, age range, audience, personality, and more. The estimated time for each item to be ready for shipping is also provided.

Best Perfume Stores

6,575 perfumes to choose from

At Beauty Encounter, the selection is vast, with 6,575 fragrances in all categories. There are 3,703 products designed for women, 2,110 for men, and 32 for children. Beauty Encounter also offers unisex fragrances and options for pets.

Retailer is missing some staple perfumes

To compare costs at different retailers we looked at the same perfumes at each store to see how the prices change. We chose one long-time staple, Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum; one trending, low-cost perfume, Clean Classic Warm Cotton; and one luxury brand perfume, Nuwa by Roja. We also looked at the range of prices across the entire selection. Here's what we found at Beauty Encounter:

  • Tiffany & Co. Rose Gold Intense Eau de Parfum: This item was not listed. A similar Tiffany perfume was offered for $84 for 1 oz. But, Beauty Encounter doesn't carry this exact fragrance.
  • Clean Classic Warm Cotton: Disappointingly, Beauty Encounter doesn't offer the "Warm" variety; you can find "Cool Cotton" for $26 in a 5 oz bottle.
  • Nuwa by Roja: $925 (on sale) for 3.4 oz
  • Full price range: $20 to $2,800

30-day returns for store credit

You have the option to return most items for a refund within 30 days of receiving the merchandise, provided you have an approved Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. For items returned within 30 days of delivery in their original packaging, unopened, and unused, the company offers a store credit (you can't get your actual money back, you can only turn it into a different purchase at Beauty Encounter). If you choose a refund to the original form of payment, a 15% restocking fee and shipping and handling charges will be applied to the returned merchandise. However, this restocking fee is waived in cases of company error or product defects. While perfumes seem to be returnable, it is advisable to verify, especially when considering luxury brands, and you won't be able to try the perfume if you want to return it.

Best Perfume Stores

Customers complain about counterfeits

Beauty Encounter holds an abysmal "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Customer reviews suggesting the receipt of counterfeit perfumes further raise concerns about this company's reliability. Despite Beauty Encounter's assurance of an authentic product guarantee, some customers express difficulties with the reliability of the company's products and customer service. At Trustpilot, Beauty Fragrance holds a 1.5-star rating out of 5, showing dissatisfaction across the board.

Pick a higher-rated service to be safe

Given the combination of less-than-enthused customer experiences and a somewhat restrictive return policy, the decision to purchase perfume from Beauty Encounter may warrant careful consideration. Many of the trending favorites and old staples aren't available for purchase at Beauty Encounter, and since you can only return your items for store credit, there isn't a lot of security offered for your purchases. Given those factors and the "F" from the BBB, we recommend caution and suggest you consider one of our higher-rated options instead.

Perfume Store FAQ

Most people have a perfume or cologne that they have used for years and know they love. Buying perfume and cologne online is an easy way to replenish your favorite scents when they run out without having to make a trip to the store. When considering fragrances, you've never smelled before, it is a good idea to identify brands you like and read reviews on the different scents they have. You could buy new fragrances in small bottles to try them out.
The good news is, you can expect to pay less for perfume if you're shopping online than if you go to a department store. The cost of your perfume will depend on the brand and amount you choose to buy. It is reasonable to expect to pay anywhere from $20 - $150 for a nice bottle of perfume or cologne. Watch for sales at your favorite online perfume store to score big discounts!
If you want to try out a new perfume, shopping online is a great way to browse hundreds of new options, read reviews, and learn about new brands. You won't have to make a trip to the store or deal with salespeople. Many department stores have high mark-ups on their fragrances that you can avoid by ordering online. If you're looking for ease, affordability, and convenience, online shopping is unquestionably the best way to go when buying perfume.
Testers are small bottles of perfume or cologne that allow you to try out a new scent. They contain the same ingredients as a full bottle, but you don't have to spend the money to buy an entire container if you aren't sure you will like it. Not all online stores offer them, but using testers is a good way to try a bunch of new fragrances if you're looking to find your new go-to perfume or cologne.
Perfume can last anywhere from 3-5 years. As long as you keep them in a cool, dry area away from sunlight, the ingredients in perfume and/or cologne will be good for a long time. Most people will use up their perfume and replace it well before it surpasses its shelf life.
Each perfume product description online will list the amount of its contents. Most bottles of perfume will include between 2.5 oz and 4 oz of fragrance. This is a convenient size for traveling and storage. Many of them come in beautiful glass bottles that make for great accessories on a vanity or shelf.
Yes! Most online perfume retailers allow you to return your unused perfume or cologne within 30 - 60 days for a full refund. It is best practice to read the store's return policy before making a purchase so you know what to expect. You'll need to follow careful packaging instructions to ensure that the perfume bottle does not break or spoil in transit.
There are a few tips and tricks that might increase the longevity of a perfume or cologne scent on your skin throughout the day. First, apply your perfume right after you get out of the shower. You might try moisturizing the areas you are applying to with a moisturizer like Vaseline. Rather than rubbing a fragrance in, try spraying or dabbing in on and letting it dry. Another idea is to spritz your perfume onto your hairbrush and run it through your hair.
