If you like the idea of buying Pet Meds from a small business rather than a big company, Vet Approved Rx is a good choice. Created by Dr. Barry Miller, a veterinarian with two decades of experience, this service aims to give customers more expertise than they'd find at a larger, more generalized store for pet medications. Even though it's a smaller retailer, Vet Approved Rx enjoys a five-star rating over more than 4,000 customer reviews and an "A+" rating with accreditation from the Better Business Bureau.
You'll see this attention to pet owners' needs in the easy-to-navigate layout of the site, with dropdowns for Dogs, Cats, Horses, Holistic & Natural items, Pet Pharmacy, Pet Education, and A to Z Symptoms. Check out the "Ask Dr. Barry" blog too, where you'll find helpful information ranging from articles on how to keep pets safe during winter months to videos giving pro tips for trimming your pet's nails.
Vet Approved Rx has taken great steps to increase their inventory since our last review. They now offer a variety of products beyond Pet Meds, including food and treats, food and water bowls, and grooming tools. But they still came up short when it came to our comparison product, Heartgard for small dogs. This store only carried the Plus version that includes a preventative for hookworms, roundworms and other parasites. It was priced at $28.99, which is average. The company also seems to have dropped its price matching policy while keeping their 100% satisfaction guarantee.
We also noticed that prescriptions cannot be shipped to North Dakota, Montana, Nebraska, or Washington DC. This likely means that Vet Approved Rx has not yet secured licensing in those states.

This business has a customer service team that takes calls from 8A-5P (CST) on weekdays and from 8A-1P on Saturdays. Customers rave about how helpful the representatives are, how quickly their orders are delivered, and above all, how much money they save compared with what they'd pay at their own vet's office.
While Vet Approved Rx has some limitations - a few states that aren't eligible for delivery, no products for exotic pets, and so on - the cost savings and excellent customer service more than make up for that. This is a supplier of Pet Meds that is worth considering.
If you've visited your veterinarian lately, you may have been shocked at the cost of even the most basic prescriptions. From regular medications like flea and heartworm prevention to products for conditions like cancer or congestive heart failure, veterinary clinics can upcharge by as much as 100% of the wholesale cost - and even tack on hefty dispensing fees.
Is it any wonder that an increasing number of pet owners are turning to online vet pharmacies for their Pet Meds? There are many trusted providers that offer the same prescription medications that you can get from your veterinarian, often at a fraction of the cost. And, most of these online stores carry a great selection of "extras", ranging from your dog's daily kibble to your kitty's favorite treats.
However, you should check with your vet to make sure that you will be able to get a prescription that you can submit to the online Pet Meds pharmacy that you choose. Recently, some offices have been reluctant to give customers prescriptions because of concerns over the safety and reputation of getting those medications from anywhere other than the veterinarians themselves.
If you or your veterinarian have any concerns, one way to ensure that you're getting authentic products that haven't been counterfeited is to look for a Pharmacy verification. This logo is typically found at the bottom of the site and indicates that the retailer has been vetted - no pun intended - by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). While online retailers of medications for pets can still be reputable without the Pharmacy label, having that verification can give you extra peace of mind when taking care of your favorite furry family member.
In addition to looking for the Pharmacy label, there are several criteria that can help you narrow down the options when deciding where to buy your pet's medications. Keep in mind the following as you browse each site:
