Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

Bake Me a Wish! began with a simple idea: making it easy to send delicious desserts anywhere in the country. It all started in 2004 when the founder wanted to surprise his mom with tiramisu from a New York City bakery but couldn't find anyone willing to deliver it cross-country. Today, Bake Me a Wish! has grown into a trusted name in dessert delivery, offering a wide selection of treats like cakes, brownies, pies, and more. Whether you're marking a special occasion or just craving something sweet, they make it easy to enjoy gourmet desserts, no matter where you are.

Just under a dozen pie flavors

What's on the menu at Bake Me a Wish! when it comes to pies? Have a look, and try not to drool:

  • Berry Cheesecake ($55)
  • Country Apple ($49)
  • Bountiful Blueberry ($48)
  • Classic Pecan ($50)
  • Banana Cream ($52)
  • Lemon Meringue ($55)
  • Sour Cherry ($48)
  • Strawberry Rhubarb ($48)
  • Coconut Cream ($52)

You may also spot seasonal pies on the menu, depending on the time of year you're looking to have them delivered. For example, when we looked at the list in December, there were 10 pies, but returning in January yielded only 9. (If we recall correctly, it's pumpkin that disappeared...)

Ships 2-Day or Overnight, even to Hawaii and Alaska

Save 15% on your pie order (or anything else) when you sign up for the email list at Bake Me a Wish! That's a smart idea, because your shipping costs are likely to wind up between $15.99 to $27.99. On the lower end of the range, you're getting 2-Day Shipping for deliveries Wednesday through Friday, but you can also upgrade to Overnight for $22.99, 2-Day or Overnight Saturday delivery for $27.99. And, bear in mind that not all pies are eligible for 2-Day Delivery; Lemon Meringue, for instance, only ships via overnight service (due to the delicate nature of the pie). It's something you need to factor in when you're looking at what your pie delivery will ultimately wind up costing, but the fees here are comparable with rival retailers. But, a bit of good news: if you're trying to ship pies to Hawaii or Alaska, Bake Me a Wish! is one of the only pie shops on our list who can get it done; it'll cost an extra $25.

Best Pies

Pies can be refrigerated or frozen

How about the "care” and storage of your pie? You'll find those details in each pie's description (helpfully, it's under the "Details” dropdown...). For example, the Bountiful Blueberry pie should be eaten upon arrival for the freshest taste, but it can also be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days, or stored in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Get rewarded for buying pies

Don't forget to choose an occasion when you're selecting your preferred delivery date. Your Bake Me a Wish! pie comes in an elegant gift box and with a personalized card. Also, if you're thinking of becoming a perpetual pie provider - in other words, you're going to send out pies on the regular - you'll love that there's a rewards program here. Earn up to 2.5 points or every dollar you spend, and get a $5 discount for every 100 points you redeem.

Thousands of 5-star ratings

One of the reasons Bake Me a Wish! lands at the top of our list is the abundance of (positive) customer reviews. When you look at other pie delivery options, you often won't see any shopper feedback that can confirm that the desserts are delicious and arrive in good condition. Not so with this pie shop. Country Apple Pie? Over 1,000 reviews averaging 4.62 stars. Lemon Meringue? 4.59 stars over 760 ratings. Even the "least reviewed” pie here still has 330 customer ratings (and averages an equally respectable 4.59 stars).

Plenty of compliments, despite a few complaints

But, we always like to check the comments on third-party sources as well - just to make sure it lines up with what the retailer claims on its own website. Bake Me a Wish! has no problems there: the Better Business Bureau has given this pie company an "A-” rating, with only five complaints in the last three years. We will point out that the feedback on Trustpilot is a little less enthusiastic, with some shoppers having issues with the way the delivery company handled the items (not the fault of Bake Me a Wish!) and reporting a handful of quality control issues. But, for the same flavors that a few customers said were bland, we found hundreds of recent compliments as well. We'll take a pie with hundreds (or thousands) of positive reviews and a handful of negative ones over ones with zero feedback anyday.

Best Pies

Fresh and on time, guaranteed

Plus, Bake Me a Wish! guarantees that your pie will arrive on time and fresh, or they'll give you your money back. That's a win over rivals who make no such promises: another big point in this pie delivery company's favor.

#1 pie delivery company on our list

The next time you're looking to order a pie and you absolutely need to count on it getting there on time and being delicious, don't miss Bake Me a Wish! You'll find plenty of flavors to choose from, guided by reviews and comments from previous pie purchasers, and you're guaranteed to be delighted. It was a tight race, but Bake Me a Wish! edged out the competition to earn a first place finish on our list.

Best selection of pies online

The selection at Southern Baked Pie Company is extraordinary, with both traditional dessert flavors as well as savory options suitable for dinner. Here's what we found on the menu during our most recent visit (and keep in mind that you'll have to click on "Dessert Pies” or "Dinner Pies”; they're not all listed on the same section of the online store):

    • 4-pack of savory pies: one each of Chicken Pot Pie, Southwestern Taco,
    • Tomato, Pot Roast; or just Chicken ($49.95)
    • Pie Sampler: 3 full-size pies in your choice of flavors ($119.95)

Try a little of everything with a combo

Where we really started getting excited to dig in was with the combo sets. Who wouldn't like a Dinner & Dessert Box (choose 1 sweet pie and 1 savory pie for $85), a Breakfast Box (1 Quiche Lorraine, 1 Spinach & Mushroom Quiche, and 1 pan of 8 cinnamon rolls for $114.95), or a Southern Supper Box (your choice of 3 savory pies for $124.95)? With any of these combo kits or even the individual pies, it's easy to keep ‘em coming if you click on the "Subscribe & Save” option - and you'll get a discount of up to 10%, depending on your order.

Best Pies

Pies shipped frozen, arriving in 1-2 days

How does Southern Baked Pie Company ensure that their desserts and dinners arrive in terrific condition? Not counting major holiday weeks, they deliver Tuesday through Saturday using UPS and FedEx - taking 1 or 2 days to arrive once shipped. All pies are shipped frozen, with 5 lb. of dry ice. Regardless of the type of pie you pick, it should arrive cool to the touch and ready for you to enjoy, bake, or freeze.

Shipping isn't cheap

And, speaking of shipping, don't expect it to be cheap. On the $39.95 Buttermilk Pie we went to order, the options were $24.95 for flat-rate shipping (sounds risky), $39.95 for 2nd Day Air, and $49.95 for overnight. We also had a $1.95 fee for "Shipping Protection by Route” tacked on - and we're seeing that more frequently as smaller businesses like Southern Baked Pie Company try to cover the cost of refunds and replacements, especially on perishable items like pies that are so easily damaged if the carrier isn't mindful of how they throw boxes on the truck or plop them upside-down on the doorstep.

People (including celebs) love these pies

There's no doubt that these pies are popular. While Southern Baked Pie Company doesn't come right out and brag as you browse their menu, click on any flavor that gets your attention and you'll see plenty of customer reviews. (We did like the little bit of horn-tooting done by the ribbons on the thumbnail images: the French Coconut Custard pie was featured by Hoda & Jenna, the Chocolate Chess was featured in Forbes, you get the idea.) Those ratings are verified by Yotpo, so you can trust that the company isn't filtering out negative reviews - there just aren't many, if any. We did spot one negative review that somehow had 5 stars (even though the title was literally "Don't order”), but we're not worried about Southern Baked Pie Company's overall reputation.

Best Pies

Great score for this pie delivery company

There's really nothing not to love about this pie shop. The selection of pies, both savory and sweet, is sure to offer something for literally everyone on your gift-giving list - or to have you coming back for more yourself. Prices are comparable with competitors', and we're thrilled to see so many positive reviews from happy customers. Although Southern Baked Pie Company was slightly edged out by the rival in our #1 spot - mostly because their pies have thousands of reviews - we're beyond excited to give them one of our highest ratings.

Little Pie Company Review 4.5 Star Rating

Little Pie Company

4.5 Star Rating
  • About 12 pies to choose from
  • Prices from $62.95 to $65.95
  • Shipping fees of $25
  • Delivery orders fulfilled via Goldbelly
  • Both "dessert” and "dinner” pie flavors available
  • Gluten-free and no-sugar-added pies offered
  • Glowing customer feedback
  • In business since 1985

Better Homes and Gardens calls NYC's Little Pie Company "the best mail order pie in America”. Created by a Broadway actor in 1985 as a side business, this pie shop still has people lining up around the block just to get a slice - and fortunately, they deliver their pies nationwide (minus Hawaii and Alaska, sorry). Even actress Sarah Jessica Parker has made the pies here a "non-negotiable Thanksgiving dish”.

Delicious flavors

We also love all of the pie flavors here. You'll find a mouth-watering variety to choose from:

  • Old-Fashioned Apple
  • Sour Cream Apple Walnut
  • Three Berry
  • Key Lime (regular or gluten-free)
  • Southern Pecan
  • Mississippi Mud
  • Sugarless Apple
  • Gluten-Free Blueberry Apple Crumb

But that's not all. Little Pie Company can cover dinner and dessert, with their Piping Hot Chicken Pot Pie, plus the Dinner & Dessert Little Pies 4-Pack (2 Piping Hot Chicken Pot Pies, one Three Berry Pie, and one Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie).

All pies are $62.95 to $65.95

Pricewise, the pies here are a bit on the spendy side: all of them are $62.95, with the exceptions of the gluten-free varieties, which are $65.95.

Best Pies

Delivery orders fulfilled via Goldbelly website

One thing to be aware of: if you're buying dessert from Little Pie Company and having it delivered (as opposed to picking up your pie in person), you will be redirected to the Goldbelly website when it's time to order. Little Pie Company uses Goldbelly to process its orders, but rest assured: all of the baking and packaging is done by LPC, and Goldbelly just handles the order processing. You'll also see much more feedback on the pies themselves once you land on the Goldbelly side of things, so don't be afraid to browse around. (Interestingly, when we got to Goldbelly's list of Little Pie Company's inventory, we also spotted a waitlist for New York Cheesecake.)

Easy storage and serving instructions

Goldbelly is where you'll get all of the instructions for what to do when your pie arrives and when you'd like to serve it. All of Little Pie Company's desserts should go right to the refrigerator and be eaten within three days, or wrap them in aluminum foil and put them in the freezer for up to a month. Just defrost them overnight when you're ready to enjoy your pie. If you're ordering a pie that's tastier when warm, you'll see those directions on each pie's page, in the dropdowns above the "Add to Cart” button.

Pick your delivery date

There are some extra perks you get when you're getting ready to finalize your order over on Goldbelly. First off, you'll see exactly when your pie can be delivered. For example, on the Rachael Ray Blue Ribbon-Winning Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie, we were able to order it on a Saturday and have it delivered as early as Tuesday; otherwise, it was no problem to click on the calendar and see other date options (including Saturday deliveries). We'll be upfront, though: shipping here is pretty costly. Expect to pay $25 for regular delivery and $45 for Saturday delivery.

Great gift-giving features

Goldbelly also gives you the ability to send a Little Pie Company dessert as a gift - even as an instant email (where your recipient can sign in and have the pie sent when they prefer). During the checkout process, look for the area at the top that says "Send as a Gift?” If you click the dropdown there, you can toggle between gifting via email instantly or entering a gift message, as well as specifying what event or occasion you might be commemorating with this pie.

Best Pies

Rewards program

And, your Little Pie Company order will earn you rewards points on Goldbelly, so have some fun checking out the other regional specialties they offer for your next order (Chicago-style pizza, anyone?).

Compliments abound from this pie shop's customers

How about reputation? Little Pie Company only has a "B-” from the Better Business Bureau, but we're not concerned: it's for failing to respond to a single complaint, the only one filed there. But, the Yelp reviews (mostly for the in-person locations) average out to a fantastic 4 out of 5 stores across more than 800 ratings. More importantly, when you look at the feedback on Goldbelly (who takes care of the pie delivery end of things, after all), the comments are glowing for both the pies themselves and for Little Pie Company overall. "Arrived on the delivery date”, "packaging was secure to avoid any crumbling”, and "it's my third order this year” are just a few of the compliments shoppers have left for Little Pie Company. And we love to see it!

Don't hesitate to buy your pie here

So, while you may spend a little more to get a treat from Little Pie Company, we'd say it's well worth it. Tons of customers have nothing but praise for the entire process, and you can rest assured that your pie will arrive in fantastic condition and taste amazing. Little Pie Company earns one of our highest ratings among the pie delivery options on our list.

House of Pies Review 4 Star Rating

House of Pies

4 Star Rating
  • 9 pies to choose from
  • All pies are $44.95
  • Free shipping
  • Family-owned bakery
  • Proudly based in Texas since 1967

House of Pies is the #1 dessert shop in Texas, with restaurant and bakery locations in Houston, The Woodlands, Cypress, and Katy. Family-owned since 1967, this bakery makes every pie to order - and better yet, they deliver their treats around the country.

All pies are $44.95, with free delivery

Choosing and ordering a pie from House of Pies couldn't be any easier - because no matter which of their 9 flavors you order, it's $44.95 and the shipping is included. (In case you haven't shopped around yet, that's a great deal.) These were the flavors we spotted during our visit to this online bakery:

  • Texas Pecan
  • Texas Pecan Fudge
  • Apple
  • Cherry
  • Dutch Apple
  • Peach
  • Strawberry Rhubarb
  • Blueberry
  • Mini Pie Assortment 4-Pack (Peach, Pecan, Apple, Cherry)

Sign up for a discount

And, even with those already-low prices, there are still other ways to save. For instance, you can get a 10% discount on your House of Pies order by signing up for their email list when you get the pop-up on the website.

Best Pies

Pies are ready to serve, but can be frozen

Once you've picked your pie and placed your order for the shipping date you prefer, what's next? Your pie comes freshly baked and ready to serve, no baking needed. You should store your pie in the fridge for up to 3 days (fruit pies) or up to 2 weeks (pecan pies). All of House of Pies' desserts can be frozen for up to 2 months: just leave it wrapped and pop the whole pie box right in the freezer. When you're ready to eat your pie, you can bring it to room temperature and enjoy as-is, or you can bake it at 225°F for 20-30 minutes until warm.

Consider paying for upgraded shipping

One important point to note: while shipping is free, it's up to you to determine if it's worth upgrading to UPS Next Day or 2nd Day Air, especially during the summer months. House of Pies doesn't guarantee that your baked goods will be in perfect condition upon arrival if you go with ground shipping. And, during the holidays, the bakery recommends ordering your pies well in advance if you're planning on serving your dessert for a specific event - preferably choosing a ship-out date that's going to get your pie there 2+ days early. Just freeze or refrigerate until your special occasion.

Shipping insurance is a good idea

You may also want to add the Shipping Protection offered during checkout. With that extra service, House of Pies will give you an item refund or replacement if something isn't quite right with your pie when it's delivered. This is also the only protection you'll have if your pie goes astray during delivery, so it's worth the surcharge. All of your options will be displayed when you get to the checkout, but it's typically around $2.

Best Pies

Limited but good feedback specific to pie delivery

We're really glad to see reviews on the pie delivery options at House of Pies: many of their competitors who also have brick-and-mortar locations are pretty silent when it comes to customer sentiment about delivery specifically. There aren't a ton of them here - it ranges from a couple to about a dozen - but we're happy to report that they're almost all 4 and 5 stars, and that House of Pies doesn't filter out the very small number of less-than-positive ratings (someone gave the Strawberry Rhubarb pie a 2-star score because they thought it was "too sweet”...but they gave it to friends who loved it).

Trustworthy option for pie delivery

House of Pies is a pie shop we really like. You can't beat the prices (especially with free shipping), customer feedback is almost universally positive, and everyone says the pies are absolutely delicious. While the company could expand its options to include a few gluten-free options in its delivery menu, we're still really happy with everything we see here. You should feel good about giving House of Pies a try.

Harry & David Review 3.5 Star Rating

Harry & David

3.5 Star Rating
  • 9 pies and tarts to choose from
  • Prices range from $39.99 to $59.99
  • Some gluten-free options available
  • Delivery fees around $19.99
  • Celebrations Passport membership members can get free shipping
  • "A+” rated by the BBB
  • In business for over 100 years

For more than a century, Harry & David has been known for its gourmet gift baskets and delicious treats, including a selection of pies. Offering nine pies and tarts - nearly half of which are gluten-free - Harry & David quietly caters to a range of dietary preferences without sacrificing quality or flavor. Whether you're gifting or indulging, these pies come beautifully packaged and ready to impress.

Mostly fruit pies here

While selection may vary based on the time of year - we found over a dozen options in December but just nine in January, for example - you'll usually find Harry & David's flavors to be heavy on the fruit pies. Here's what was on the list during our most recent visit:

  • Traditional Apple ($54.99)
  • Cherry Crunch ($54.99)
  • Oregon Berry ($54.99)
  • Berry and Apple Mini Pies ($39.99)
  • Apple Galette ($39.99)
  • Gluten-Free Apple Crumble ($59.99)
  • Gluten-Free Berry ($59.99)
  • Gluten-Free Lemon Tart ($59.99)
  • Gluten-Free Chocolate Tart ($59.99)

Pay attention to availability

We do want to point out that, at the time of our review, the Cherry Crunch wasn't available to ship until nearly a month later; the rest of the pies, thankfully, were all designated as "available to ship now”. Just pay attention to that as you browse.

Best Pies

Add on for extra-special gifts

A standout option for gift-giving, Harry & David adds thoughtful extras to each order, from complimentary gift messages to premium greeting cards for a small fee. You'll also notice that the pies are shown as being priced "from” a certain amount. That's because you'll see options for adding Moose Munch popcorn or other upgrades to your pie delivery.

Celebrations Passport pays for itself

Plus, their Celebrations Passport membership can save frequent shoppers on shipping, making it easier to send sweet surprises year-round. We're happy to report that not only do all of the pies at Harry & David qualify for Passport's free delivery, but there are thousands of other items you could choose in the same brand family that are also included. How? Harry & David is part of the 1-800-Flowers family of brands, allowing you to send treats from The Popcorn Factory, a beautiful bouquet of roses (from 1-800-Flowers, of course), brownies from Wolferman's, and so much more. If you're a regular shopper on any of those sites (or even just Harry & David), the $19.99 fee in the first year (and $29.99 each year thereafter) will more than pay for itself very quickly - especially when delivery costs on one order are usually around $20 here.

Solid reputation overall, but customer service has some mishaps

While Harry & David is known for its high-quality products and elegant presentation, some customers have noted issues with timely deliveries. Despite those occasional shipping hiccups, the brand maintains an "A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau and works hard to resolve complaints promptly. We're not super-happy with some of the complaints we saw on Trustpilot and in other places that described having a hard time getting orders to the right place (or getting quick fixes from Harry & David reps); to be honest, we do expect a little more from Harry & David, given how long they've been in business. That's probably the biggest reason why they don't rank higher among the pie shops on our list.

Best Pies

Above average pie retailer, especially for gift-giving

And yet, with that century-long reputation and its focus on thoughtful gifting, Harry & David's pies could be a good choice, especially if you'd like a range of gluten-free flavors to consider for gifting. Just be sure to confirm shipping times if you need your pie there by a specific date. Overall, this is a "reliable enough” go-to for gourmet pies and tarts, especially if you're going to take advantage of the Passport program.

Tiny Pies Review 3.5 Star Rating

Tiny Pies

3.5 Star Rating
  • About 15 pies and mini pies to choose from
  • Prices range from $27 to $42.99
  • Shipping fees of approximately $30
  • Proudly based in Texas since 2011

Tiny Pies, founded in 2011 by Amanda Wadsworth and her mother Kit Seay, puts a modern spin on traditional pie-making. Inspired by family recipes passed down from Amanda's great-grandmother Maude, the company began in the kitchen of a University of Texas sorority house, where Kit worked as House Mother. Known for their handcrafted pies made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, Tiny Pies has become a favorite at local events like weddings and holiday gatherings. And, lucky for non-locals, many of their pies are available for nationwide delivery.

No pies for specific dietary needs

There's something for everyone at Tiny Pies, from 4-packs of mini desserts to full-size 9” pies. The only exception? If you've got special dietary needs, like gluten-free or vegan, the "pickins” will be a little slim here (although we did spot a no-nuts pack of mini pies if you need that).

Best Pies

Delicious and unique flavor options

Still, if you don't find something in the selection at Tiny Pies that makes your mouth water, we question whether you really like pies at all. Here are the flavors we saw on offer when we visited most recently:

  • Pecan: offered as a "bites box” ($29.99), mini pie 4-pack ($34.99), and a 9” pie ($42.99)
  • Snickerdoodle: offered as a mini pie 4-pack (on sale for $27, down from $34.99)
  • Cranberry Orange Cheesecake: offered as a mini pie 4-pack (also on sale for $27, down from $34.99)
  • Holiday: a mini pie 4-pack with Cranberry Orange Cheesecake, Pecan, Snickerdoodle, and Cherry Crumb ($34.99). Also offered in a no-nut version (on sale for $27, down from $34.99)
  • Cherry: offered as a cherry crumb mini pie 4-pack ($34.99) or a 9” pie ($42.99)
  • Apple Crumb: offered as a mini pie 4-pack ($34.99) or a 9” pie ($42.99)
  • Fan Favorites: a 4-pack of mini pies (apple, cherry, pecan, and Texas Two Step) for $34.99
  • Texas Two Step: a combination of pecan pie and chocolate brownie, available as a 9” pie ($42.99) or a 4-pack of mini pies ($34.99)
  • Texas Flag Pie: complete with a star and a partial top crust to make this pie look like the Lone Star State's flag, this 9” pie is a 50-50 mix of tart cherry and blueberry filling ($42.99)

20% discount when you sign up for emails

Need to save a bit? If you provide Tiny Pies with your email address (and subscribe to their marketing messaging), you'll get a 20% off code for your first order.

Order early during the holidays

Availability can be an issue at Tiny Pies, mostly around the holidays. For example, when we checked the inventory early in December, up to half of the 15-ish varieties were indicated as "sold out”. But, when we checked back a month later, everything was back in stock.

Pick a shipping date in advance

All of the pies here are shipped fresh via overnight or 2nd Day Air delivery (outside of Texas) or ground (within Texas), using dry ice to keep them at the right temperature. When you receive your pie, it should be refrigerated or frozen if you're not eating it right away. And, if you're trying to have your pies ready for a specific date, Tiny Pies lets you pick a scheduled day on the calendar - but because they can't guarantee that exact date (because it depends on the local carrier), they recommend that you schedule the delivery in advance of when you need it, just to be on the safe side.

Best Pies

Shipping is pretty expensive

How much will that shipping cost? Brace yourself. When we went to order a 4-pack of mini cranberry-orange cheesecakes for $27, the least-expensive delivery option (UPS 2nd Day Air) was $28.81. And, if we went with Next Day Air Saver, the cost jumped to $54.87. It is very possible that you'll pay more for the shipping than for the pies here.

Good local feedback, none for pie delivery

While Tiny Pies didn't show up with a listing on the Better Business Bureau, we were able to find feedback elsewhere that was very encouraging. For example, the company earned a 4.3-star average across 350+ reviews on Yelp, and 4.5 stars across nearly 50 reviews on Tripadvisor. Of course, almost all of those ratings come from customers who have visited Tiny Pies in person, so we'd love to see comments specific to the pie delivery experience. Unfortunately, neither the company website nor any of the other third-party review platforms we usually consult had anything to say about how well Tiny Pies does when it comes to delivery.

Better than average, with room to grow

All told, Tiny Pies comes in as above average in comparison with its rivals on our list. We're big fans of the pie varieties here, especially the Texas-themed flavors, and we love that there are options for both full-size and mini treats. While we're a little daunted by the high delivery costs, and we'd prefer to see some customer feedback directly related to the delivery end of things here, Tiny Pies still gets our recommendation - and our hopes to be able to increase that score in the future if and when the company offers reviews from pie delivery customers.

Mackenzie Limited has been in the gourmet food business since 1988, originally offering fine foods from the British Isles and Scotland. Today, they provide over 400 specialty items, including a selection of about a dozen pies and tarts. While pies aren't their flagship product - that title belongs to their Scottish Smoked Salmon - you'll still find a competitive selection of baked goods to choose from here.

About a dozen pie and tart flavors to consider

During our most recent visit to the Mackenzie Limited online store, these were the pies (and related desserts) on offer:

  • Triple Berry Tarts ($32.95)
  • Apple Dumplings ($32.95)
  • Peach and Blueberry Crostata ($32.95)
  • Four-Berry Pie ($36.95)
  • Pumpkin Pie ($39.95)
  • Raspberry Almond Bakewell Tart ($44.95)
  • Strawberry Rhubarb Apple Pie ($44.95)
  • Caramel Apple Pie ($44.95)
  • Apple Pie ($44.95)
  • Key Lime Pie ($59.95)
  • Cherry Peach Tart ($66.95)
  • Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Tart ($69.95)
  • Holiday Pie Duo: Pumpkin and Apple ($79.95)
  • Southern Pie Sampler: Caramel, Strawberry Rhubarb Apple, Key Lime, Pumpkin ($149.95)

Be prepared for ever-increasing shipping costs

One thing to keep in mind when ordering pies from Mackenzie Limited is the cost of delivery. Standard shipping starts at $18.95, expedited at $27.90, and overnight at $43.90 - and that's for orders up to $80. If your order exceeds $250, shipping charges increase to 16% of your total. This can significantly add to your overall cost, so it's worth calculating beforehand.

Glitchy when picking shipping dates in the future

We also had trouble with the "ship at a later date” function during checkout. "Ship as soon as possible” was no problem, but every time we tried to click on the calendar to pick a different window, it would flash on the screen and then disappear. If it's important to you to send your pie at a later time, maybe for a holiday or special occasion, you may have a few extra hoops to jump through when ordering from Mackenzie Limited.

Limited satisfaction guarantee

Mackenzie Limited's satisfaction policy doesn't cover shipping refunds. If your pie arrives damaged or doesn't meet your expectations, customer service may work with you to resolve the issue - but a refund for the shipping fees is off the table. This makes their shipping cost even more important when deciding whether to place an order.

Mixed customer feedback

While Mackenzie Limited has a "B” rating from the Better Business Bureau, it's not entirely reassuring. The company has received 17 complaints in three years and an average rating of just 1.98 stars from over 50 customer reviews. During our research, we discovered that Mackenzie Limited operates as a dropshipper under Chesapeake Fine Food Group LLC, meaning they don't have their own bakery. As one representative explained to a disgruntled customer, their pies might also be available from other vendors or common grocery outlets. Not exactly an "exclusive” feel here... That also means that the way your pie is packed and shipped may vary: one source may use dry ice and ship the pie fresh, while another might send your pie frozen but ready-to-bake.

Best Pies

Some pies are well-loved

Despite the mixed reputation, Mackenzie Limited has a dedicated following, especially for gifting purposes. While not every pie has ratings, some have glowing reviews - like the Caramel Apple Pie, with 4.46 stars from more than 125 customers. Many repeat buyers don't seem bothered by the lack of in-house production, focusing more on the taste and quality of the pies they receive. On the other hand, we were a little disturbed by a reviewer on one of the berry pies that said they had actually broken a tooth on the pits that they found in their dessert. Buyer beware!

A decent option in a pinch

Overall, Mackenzie Limited falls short compared to our top-rated pie retailers, but they still have a long history and some highly rated products. If other pie shops don't have what you're looking for, Mackenzie Limited might be worth considering as a backup option.

David's Cookies Review 2 Star Rating

David's Cookies

2 Star Rating
  • 3 ready-to-bake pies to choose from: apple, peach, cherry
  • $59.95 for a 2-pack
  • No gluten-free options
  • Shipping is $6.95 for standard and $39.95 for expedited
  • "A” rated by the BBB
  • In business since 1979

Since 1979, David's Cookies has been winning over dessert fans with their irresistible, freshly-baked cookies. Over time, they've expanded their offerings to include everything from rich cheesecakes and fudgy brownies to pies and other sweet treats. Whether you're looking for something to share at a party or just want to indulge your sweet tooth, David's Cookies has you covered. Plus, with kosher certification from the Orthodox Union and an SQF-certified bakery, you can feel confident that every dessert is made with high-quality ingredients and delivered fresh to your door.

Grocery store-style pies

While we love David's Cookies overall, and the company has earned top marks in many other categories here, we just can't get excited about their pie selection. You only have three flavors to choose from - apple, cherry, and peach - and they're all packaged like something you'd find in your grocery store's frozen dessert aisle. The pies come in a two-pack and are conveniently ready to bake, but they're missing that homemade, hand-crafted feel that you'll find with other pie places on our list. That also means that you'll be missing any options for specific dietary needs here. If your pie-eaters need something gluten-free or vegan, David's Cookies just isn't the place to shop.

Best Pies

Most affordable pie delivery on our list

On the other hand, you'll appreciate the pricing on David's Cookies' pies: just $59.95 for two desserts, each of which serves about 10 people. Shipping is also affordable at just $6.95. You won't find any other store on our list that will deliver a pair of pies to your porch for under $70. If you're in a hurry, David's Cookies offers expedited shipping for $39.95, but it's not necessarily worth it: when we looked at ordering our pies on a Friday, regular shipping would get them to our recipient on Wednesday, and expedited only shaved a day off the timeframe. Just plan a bit in advance and go with the cheaper delivery.

Reputation is fantastic

We're also a-ok with the reputation of David's Cookies. The company has an "A” from the Better Business Bureau and thousands of 5-star reviews from delighted customers. Unfortunately, there are no reviews specifically on the pies here, but you can trust the overall reviews as an indicator that they'll be well-made and delicious. You can also count on this company to take care of you if there's any kind of problem with your pie shipment.

Not a competitor when it comes to pie

Unfortunately, none of the positives are enough to bring David's Cookies beyond a low rating as a pie delivery option. There's just not enough to choose from, and what's there is a little too much like what we'd see in a supermarket. You could go with these pies if you're just looking for something basic and dependable, but we wouldn't order here without checking all of the higher-ranked rivals first. We love you, David's Cookies, but pies are clearly not your specialty.

Williams Sonoma Review 1.5 Star Rating

Williams Sonoma

1.5 Star Rating
  • About a dozen pies to choose from
  • Prices range from $49.95 to $99.95
  • Strong emphasis on seasonal/holiday flavors
  • Gluten-free pies may be available
  • Membership perks with Reserve ($99/year) for free shipping and other benefits
  • Standard shipping fees of up to $24
  • In business since 1956

Williams Sonoma has built a reputation for high-end kitchenware, gourmet ingredients, and specialty foods. Since its founding in 1956, it's been a go-to for those who appreciate quality and craftsmanship. But, when it comes to pies, their selection is mid-tier at best, and their overall customer service leaves a lot of room for improvement. But, let's take a look and let you decide for yourself.

Pies are grouped with other desserts

The first thing you'll notice is that Williams Sonoma groups pies in the same category as cakes, panettone, cupcakes, and cake pops. Browse all of those if you like, but if you'd rather filter out the 40+ items that aren't pies, jump over to the filters and click on "Pies”.

Best Pies

Selection hovers around a dozen pies

The pie selection can vary from season to season, but overall you can expect to see around a dozen choices at Williams Sonoma. (When we began our research, there were 13 options; a week later, there were 11.) Some flavors are definitely holiday-oriented, like the Southern Baked Pumpkin Pie ($79.95) and the Gluten Free Valentine's Day Tart ($49.95), while other flavors are more year-round (Gooey Birthday Butter Square Pie at $49.95, Southern Baked Apple Pie, $84.95). And, don't forget to look for clearance bargains after the holidays; while the discounts aren't as deep as we'd like to see - $21.99 instead of $29.95 or $44.99 instead of $59.90, for example - it can make your Williams Sonoma experience a little more wallet-friendly.

Almost half of pies are gluten-free

How about dietary needs? It's easy to quickly browse the pie selection and see what's currently on offer, though you can use the filters to look for gluten-free, organic, and vegan options if you prefer. We were impressed that 4 of the 11 selections at the time of our visit were gluten-free, including pecan and cherry pies and a raspberry tart.

Shipping and delivery options aren't great

Shipping costs are a common complaint when ordering from Williams Sonoma. Unless you pay for their $99/year Reserve membership, you can expect shipping fees to add a hefty amount to your total - around $24 per order or more. Even more frustrating, there's no way to schedule a specific delivery date. This means you might receive your pie earlier or later than planned, making it difficult to time your order perfectly for a special event.

No customer reviews to help you decide

Another downside when ordering pies from Williams Sonoma is the lack of customer reviews. Without feedback from previous buyers, it's tough to gauge whether the pie will live up to your expectations. You're left to trust the product descriptions and photos, which, while appetizing, may not always reflect the real-life experience.

Best Pies

Too many complaints

Delivery issues have plagued Williams Sonoma for years, and pies are no exception. According to customer reports, late or missing deliveries are a frequent problem. The Better Business Bureau rates the company poorly (with an "F”), with numerous complaints about orders arriving well past their expected dates. This is a huge concern if you're ordering a pie for a holiday dinner or special occasion. No one wants to plan a party around a dessert that may not show up in time.

Not a pie delivery option we'd recommend

While Williams Sonoma's pies may look stunning and sound delicious, the risks involved with ordering from them can outweigh the benefits. High shipping costs, inconsistent delivery, and the absence of customer feedback make it hard to fully trust that you will wind up satisfied when you buy a pie here. If you want a pie that arrives on time and tastes as good as it looks, we would strongly recommend that you order from one of the higher-rated pie shops on our list. Williams Sonoma is too likely to be a disappointment, and earns a correspondingly low rating of from us.

Milk Bar Review 1 Star Rating

Milk Bar

1 Star Rating
  • 3 pie flavors to choose from: Chocolate Milk Bar, Milk Bar, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch (sold out at the time of our review)
  • $53 per pie
  • $15 for standard shipping, $30 to $65 for express
  • Free standard shipping on orders of $100+
  • In business since 2008

If you're thinking you've heard of Milk Bar on a Netflix show, you're right. Christina Tosi, the mastermind behind this trendy dessert brand, was featured on "Chef's Table”, and her mission is all about turning nostalgic home-baked flavors into iconic treats. Milk Bar has been serving up goodies since 2008, and they deliver pies and other desserts nationwide.

Only 3 flavors of pie

If you're here for pie, Milk Bar keeps it simple with just three options: Chocolate Milk Bar, Milk Bar Pie, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch. Unfortunately, at the time of our review, the last one was sold out - leaving you with even fewer choices. While these pies are undeniably unique and playful, the limited selection might leave pie lovers wanting more.

Best Pies

Pies are definitely tasty-sounding

But, just so you have an idea of Milk Bar's take on pies, let's dig in and see what these treats are like. We personally love the idea of the Chocolate Milk Bar Pie: it's got a chocolate chip cookie crust, a fudgy chocolate filling, and it's dusted with chocolatey powdered sugar. They do describe it as being "limited number” and "holiday”, but we spotted it on the menu at various times of the year - so don't lose hope if you're trying to order in that no-holiday stretch of August and September. This pie is the cocoa-based version of the classic Milk Bar Pie, which has an oat cookie crust and a "sticky, buttery, salty-sweet filling”.

Some discounts are available

Both pies sell for $53 (and we can't tell you how much the Chocolate PB version would cost when it's back in stock, because it only displayed "sold out” in the pricing area). Want to save a little? You might get a discount if you order enough. We noticed a $15 off $80+ deal if you enter your email, and shipping is free when you spend $100 or more. Otherwise, standard shipping costs $15, and express options range from $30 to $65. That means it might make sense to stock up on pies or mix in some cookies and cake truffles to hit that free shipping threshold.

Important details can be hard to find

When you order a pie from Milk Bar, you can place your order up to 30 days ahead of time - but you can't specify an exact delivery date. They recommend that you order at least 2-3 days in advance of when you'd like your pie to arrive. Oddly, that information was in the "Product & Storage Details” section of the pie page…where, at least on the chocolate version, there weren't any actual details about how the pie arrives (frozen? fresh?), whether you need to bake it, or if you can pop it in the freezer for longer-term storage. We had to jump over to the classic Milk Bar Pie to learn that it arrives fresh, should be refrigerated immediately or frozen, and can be enjoyed at any temperature. Your pie should keep in the fridge for a week, or up to a month in the freezer.

Best Pies

An "F” from the BBB and other reputation problems

How about reputation? Here's where things get a little less sweet. Milk Bar has a rocky reputation with customer service. Their Better Business Bureau rating is an "F”, mostly because they haven't responded to a few complaints. More troubling are the reviews on Google, where over 30% of customers have rated the company with just 1 or 2 stars. The main gripes? Long delivery times, no response from customer support, and desserts that didn't arrive in great condition. Imagine opening up a box of pie that you paid express shipping for, only to find it dried out or crumbled - that's been the experience for more than a few people.

Pick a different pie delivery company

Our conclusion? With just three pies to choose from (two if one continues to be sold out), high shipping fees unless you spend over $100, and a spotty track record for customer satisfaction, Milk Bar isn't your best bet for pie delivery. While their pie flavors are certainly unique, the overall experience is likely to leave you feeling less than impressed. This is the lowest-ranked option among the pie shops on our list.

Continued from above...

Pies hold a special place in culinary history, dating back thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians are credited with the earliest pie-like recipes, typically made with oats, honey, and dates. (Bake like an Egyptian?) The concept evolved as it traveled through Greece and Rome, where meat-filled pies became a staple.

By the time pies reached medieval Europe, they had transformed into a versatile dish with sweet and savory options wrapped in sturdy crusts. Today, pies are a beloved dessert and comfort food in many cultures, with flavors that range from classic to cutting-edge.

Speaking of flavors, traditional favorites like apple, pumpkin, and pecan remain at the top of the list, especially during the holidays. But adventurous bakers have introduced novel creations to delight the foodie in all of us. Imagine a tangy-sweet key lime pie infused with coconut, a decadent chocolate-bourbon pecan pie, or a savory dinnertime pie like tomato-basil ricotta. Pies continue to adapt to modern tastes, making them a perennial crowd-pleaser.

Ready to order pies online? We are too! As you browse all of your options, here are some key factors to consider when choosing a website:

  • Flavor selection. Look for a site that offers the flavors you love, plus unique options you might want to try. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
  • Customization options. Some sites allow you to personalize your pie, whether it's adding a gift message to your order or choosing a specific crust or filling. This will be especially important if you or your gift recipient need a gluten-free crust or a sugar-free ingredient list.
  • Shipping and delivery. Double-check that the vendor ships to your area. Also, how much should you expect to pay for delivery?
  • Customer reviews. Honest feedback from other pie-loving customers can reveal how reliable a site is for quality, packaging, and service. Does the company have a strong reputation with the Better Business Bureau?
  • Satisfaction guarantee. Just in case something goes wrong, it's helpful to know how the company handles issues like damaged or late deliveries.

Ordering pies online is a deliciously easy way to enjoy this timeless treat, and the pie fans at Top Consumer Reviews have evaluated and ranked some of today's most popular pie purveyors (say THAT ten times fast). With so many options at your fingertips, you're sure to find the perfect slice for any occasion - and have it conveniently delivered right to your doorstep!

Pie Delivery FAQ

Absolutely! Most pie delivery services use advanced packaging techniques, like vacuum sealing and insulated containers with gel packs, to keep pies fresh during transit. Many also ship overnight or via expedited services for peak freshness.
It depends on the vendor. Most pies are flash-frozen to lock in flavor and need to be thawed before serving, but some companies offer pies that are shipped fresh and ready to enjoy right out of the box. Check the product details to know what to expect.
You can find just about any pie you're craving! From classics like apple, pumpkin, and pecan to specialty flavors like lemon meringue, peanut butter chocolate, or even savory pot pies, there's something for everyone.
Storage instructions usually come with the pie. Fresh pies can often be kept at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerated for longer shelf life. Frozen pies should go straight into your freezer if not baked and eaten immediately.
Definitely! Many services let you schedule deliveries for special dates or holidays. Some even offer customization options, like adding a personal note or custom decorations for events like birthdays or anniversaries.
Prices vary depending on the pie, bakery, and shipping method. Expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $60 for the pie, with additional charges ranging from $7 to $50, depending on how quickly your order will arrive. Some sites offer free or discounted shipping on large orders or subscriptions.
Most reputable vendors have a customer service team ready to help. They typically offer refunds, replacements, or discounts if your pie arrives damaged or not as expected. Be sure to document the issue with photos and contact them promptly.
When you're trying to pick a pie company, look for customer reviews, flavor variety, shipping options, and clear policies. Comparing a few services will help you find one that appeals to your taste (and budget). Don't forget to check for seasonal deals or sampler options to try multiple flavors.
