Home Depot may be where "doers get more done”, but every DIY fanatic and home improvement professional needs some down time too. That could be why you'll find pool tables in Home Depot's inventory.
Lowest-priced tables: under $500
Ignoring the cutesy toy tabletop model for $19.99, Home Depot has a selection of 65 pool tables. About half of them are lightweight, portable styles for under $500. One of the most popular styles in that category is the Hathaway Spartan model. Priced at $439.99 and with an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars, this 6-foot table comes with a table tennis top for two-in-one play. It'll come as no surprise that it's made of budget-friendly materials like melamine and blended felt (and not solid hardwood, for example). But, it's a space-saving, multi-purpose game table that would make a great addition to a family rec room.
Highest-priced table: $2,849.99
The highest-end pool tables carried by Home Depot are from Barrington and Hathaway. Those include Barrington's Arlington ($2,849.99 and $1,799.99, depending on the style) and Urban ($1,999.99) models, plus Hathaway's Montecito ($1,599.99) and Newport ($1,587.73) styles. Most of these higher-end pool tables don't have a ton of customer reviews, but the Hathaway Augusta ($1,565.95) did have more than a dozen ratings averaging a solid 4 stars at the time of our review. That's not all that surprising: Home Depot isn't exactly a pool table specialist, and we're thinking that a fair number of customers made those purchases as an impulse buy. (No judging here.)
Easy online ordering and in-person pickup or delivery
Impulse buy or not, there are some good reasons to add that pool table to your Home Depot cart. You'll have no trouble telling if it's in stock at your local store, if you want to order it online and cruise on over to pick it up. Otherwise, look for the spot where it tells you if you can get free ship-to-store or if delivery is available. From what we could see, all pool tables here will cost $55 for curbside delivery (when that option is offered).
90-day return window
Another perk is that Home Depot's 90-day return policy evidently applies to pool tables as well. You may have to take it to your local store, though; we didn't see anything saying that Home Depot would cover the return shipping costs on something as large as a pool table.
Get financing through PayPal or store credit card
Need financing? Home Depot makes that available through PayPal. You'll see that option right under the "Add to Cart” button. You can also get a Home Depot card as an additional financing option; just follow the "Apply Now” link underneath the price of the pool table. As an added benefit, purchases on the Home Depot card often come with an extended 365-day return window (assuming you haven't damaged the pool table in some way).
"A+” from the BBB
And, we have zero concerns about Home Depot's reputation. The home improvement superstore earns an "A+” and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, and while people have had their issues with specific retail locations, all complaints filed with the BBB have been handled in an appropriate, professional way.
A good choice if they have a pool table you like
Although Home Depot doesn't exactly specialize in pool tables, there's nothing that should stop you from adding one to your cart if you see something you like. You're not going to get any truly high-end models here, or the kind of expertise that you'd find with a more specialized retailer. But, you know that going in - and if all you need is a budget-friendly option for your game room, Home Depot's pool tables are worth a look.
Whether you're looking for a way to unwind, host friendly competitions, or hone your skills, owning a pool table can transform your space into a hub of entertainment. Pool, often considered a mix of precision and strategy, has been a staple in bars and game rooms for years, offering a laid-back yet engaging pastime that can be enjoyed solo or with a group. Having your own table at home means you'll never have to wait for your turn at the bar or pool hall again.
Shopping online can be a great way to get the pool table of your dreams. Not only do you have a wider selection at your fingertips, but online retailers often offer better deals, free shipping, or even white-glove delivery services to get the proper setup. Plus, you can read reviews and compare different brands and models without leaving your home.
The game of pool, a term often used interchangeably with "billiards”, actually has its own distinct history and set of rules. Both stem from a 15th-century lawn game similar to croquet, but billiards came first and was played on a table without pockets. Over time, the game evolved, and pockets were added, giving birth to what we now call pool.
While billiards generally refers to games played on a pocketless table (such as carom billiards), pool is a broader category that includes various games like eight-ball and nine-ball, all played on a pocketed table. Though the terms are sometimes mixed, the main difference lies in the table design and game rules, with pool being more common and casual today.
When shopping for a pool table, there are a few key features to keep in mind. First, the size of the table is crucial - official competition size is 9 feet, but you might opt for a 7- or 8-foot table to better suit your space. Materials matter, too. Look for solid wood construction and a slate surface for the truest gameplay experience, though MDF can work if you're on a budget or looking for something lightweight. Don't forget about the cloth; wool or wool-nylon blends are the go-to for smooth, consistent ball roll.
Whether you're new to the game or a seasoned player, online shopping lets you find the perfect table that fits your style and budget without the hassle. But which pool table store should you go with? Here are a few criteria you can use to make some comparisons and ultimately decide where to make your purchase:
