On the Wayfair website

Wayfair is one of the world's largest retailers of home goods, from curtains to couches and so much more, serving over 22 million customers every year. In operation since 2002, this internet-based retailer might be your favorite choice for buying a pool table, especially if you're looking for a really broad selection.

Amazing selection of over 500 pool tables

Ignoring the handful of tabletop (toy) pool tables in the inventory, Wayfair carries over 550 options ranging from $109.99 (portable) to $17,999. And, per the usual for this online-only retailer, the selection includes both classic styles... and really unique models you're not going to find at a traditional pool table store.

Lowest-priced tables: under $200

On the more "normal" end of things, you'll find quite a few portable pool tables for under $200. Some of those are surprisingly well-liked by reviewers; the Triad 3-in-1 ($180.41) had 138 reviews at the time of our evaluation, averaging 4.3 stars out of 5, and MD Sports' 5-Game Multi-Table had over 200 ratings with an average of 4.4 stars. If you're looking for a pool table that's super budget-friendly, Wayfair delivers (quite literally, with free delivery on all of those lower-end models).

Highest-priced tables: $17,999

But the real fun comes at Wayfair when you ask to see everything sorted from price high-to-low, in just about any category and definitely for pool tables. The two most expensive options at the time of our most recent visit were Doc & Holliday's Tron models, priced at $17,999. Either model was offered with professional installation and free delivery included in the price (thank goodness for that). Given the name, we were expecting all kinds of LED lights and some kind of futuristic grid on the play surface, but alas, we were disappointed. We were also surprised that this Doc & Holliday pool table didn't come with any of the accessories, and that there was a 14- to 17-week build time. Other high-end options with unique designs at Wayfair include several clear-frame pool tables by Recon Furniture ($10,000 to $14,000), the Doc & Holliday Poshy model (with a half-circle base), and White Billiards' geometric/stacked base.

Options for every budget and style

Rest assured, though, that if your tastes are more traditional (and your budget isn't in the $10K+ category), Wayfair has no shortage of pool tables for you to get excited about. For example, with over 650 reviews averaging 4.4 stars, one of Wayfair's most popular pool tables is the Kirkwood by American Legend. Priced at just $737.16, you'll get a sturdy, affordable pool table - and it even comes with free two-day delivery. At Wayfair, you can spend an arm and a leg, but you definitely don't have to.

Read up on the details

Whichever pool table(s) you're considering, you'll get plenty of information right on the product page. One of the most important factors is the space required for gameplay: pay attention so that you have enough room not just for the table, but also the clearance it takes to be able to pull back the stick and make that winning shot. Those details will also tell you if your particular model comes with all of the necessary accessories (like the billiard balls, cues, chalk) or if you'll need to add a set to your cart.

30 days to make returns, but you cover the shipping cost

Wayfair's 30-day return policy applies to pool tables. But, if you've assembled your table, you'll have to take it apart and send it back in the original packaging (if available). And, the real hurdle is that you're going to be on the hook for what it costs to ship the pool table back - which is going to be hefty, considering how much the average pool table weighs.

Best Pool Table Stores

Strong reputation, and plenty of ratings to consider on tables

Wayfair has earned an "A+" and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, despite having over 5,500 complaints filed there in the last three years. Of course, when you have over 30 million items in your inventory and you serve millions and millions of customers every year, you're bound to get some complaints (and what's 5,500 compared to that level of sales?). Plus, you can always rely on customer ratings on individual pool tables, to make sure you're getting one that's likely to be as-advertised and last for many happy years of game play.

Not a pool table specialist

The biggest downside to getting a pool table from Wayfair is the obvious lack of expertise/specialization. If you've got all the know-how to separate the good from the bad and your priority is to get a pool table that's unique, affordable, or whatever your criteria are, Wayfair's a fantastic option. On the other hand, if you're not quite sure what you're doing and you need some knowledgeable hand-holding, that's not what Wayfair is about.

Top pick for selection

On the whole, Wayfair easily earns a high rating from us. The selection is almost unbeatable, and the fact that all tables come with free delivery (and some include installation) is a big win. We love being able to consider shopper feedback on most of the pool table models in the inventory, too. As long as you don't need any expert guidance on your purchase, Wayfair should be on your list of pool table stores to visit online.

Who Sells the Best Pool Tables?

Whether you're looking for a way to unwind, host friendly competitions, or hone your skills, owning a pool table can transform your space into a hub of entertainment. Pool, often considered a mix of precision and strategy, has been a staple in bars and game rooms for years, offering a laid-back yet engaging pastime that can be enjoyed solo or with a group. Having your own table at home means you'll never have to wait for your turn at the bar or pool hall again.

Shopping online can be a great way to get the pool table of your dreams. Not only do you have a wider selection at your fingertips, but online retailers often offer better deals, free shipping, or even white-glove delivery services to get the proper setup. Plus, you can read reviews and compare different brands and models without leaving your home.

The game of pool, a term often used interchangeably with "billiards", actually has its own distinct history and set of rules. Both stem from a 15th-century lawn game similar to croquet, but billiards came first and was played on a table without pockets. Over time, the game evolved, and pockets were added, giving birth to what we now call pool.

While billiards generally refers to games played on a pocketless table (such as carom billiards), pool is a broader category that includes various games like eight-ball and nine-ball, all played on a pocketed table. Though the terms are sometimes mixed, the main difference lies in the table design and game rules, with pool being more common and casual today.

When shopping for a pool table, there are a few key features to keep in mind. First, the size of the table is crucial - official competition size is 9 feet, but you might opt for a 7- or 8-foot table to better suit your space. Materials matter, too. Look for solid wood construction and a slate surface for the truest gameplay experience, though MDF can work if you're on a budget or looking for something lightweight. Don't forget about the cloth; wool or wool-nylon blends are the go-to for smooth, consistent ball roll.

Whether you're new to the game or a seasoned player, online shopping lets you find the perfect table that fits your style and budget without the hassle. But which pool table store should you go with? Here are a few criteria you can use to make some comparisons and ultimately decide where to make your purchase:

Ready to rack ‘em up? Top Consumer Reviews has researched and ranked some of the most popular pool table stores online today, to help you find the right table for your game room space and skill level. Whether you're drawn to pool as a hobby, a social pastime, or a competitive sport, your new pool table will be a great way to invest in fun and relaxation for years to come.

Pool Table Store FAQ

What's the difference between pool and billiards?
That depends on who you're asking! Billiards usually means any tabletop game that uses a cue ball and stick, while pool refers to a game with pockets. And then there's snooker, which has very specific rules related to the color point value of the 22 balls involved.
How much room do I need for a pool table?
Obviously you'll need enough room for the table itself. But, don't forget to take into account the pool cues when you're playing! You need at least five feet of clearance on all sides of the table, since most cues are about that long.
How much do pool tables cost?
There are cheap pool tables that cost under $100, but they're usually more like toys than actual equipment you'd use in a game room at your home. Most traditional pool tables start around $2000, with the most luxurious, high-end models coming in at $10,000 and up.
What accessories will I need for my pool table?
At a minimum, you'll need a pool cue and set of pool balls. They may or may not be included as part of the package when you purchase your pool table. Other common accessories are chalk for the cue tips, wall racks for holding your cues, a bridge stick for hard-to-reach shots, a table brush, and racks for setting up the balls on the table.
Can I move my pool table by myself?
Pool tables can weigh up to 1,000 pounds. When your table is installed professionally, it's leveled for that particular spot; moving it can make the slate shift and cause the table to no longer be level. You may want to consider having your table moved by a technician; if you choose to do it yourself, a professional leveling and adjustment may be in order.
How do I care for the cloth surface?
Brush, brush, brush. It can take months to break in new cloth on a pool table, and there's no such thing as "brushing too much". If you choose to use a vacuum, make sure to use an attachment and not rotating brushes. You can also use a damp, lint-free towel every so often to wipe down the pool table's cloth.
Can I use my pool table as a work surface?
You can - but you shouldn't. You could scratch the finish, damage the cloth, or even wind up making the table not level. It's recommended that you keep your table out of direct sunlight and use a pool table cover to protect it from dust.
Can I return my pool table if it doesn't fit or I don't like it?
Check the retailer's policy before making your purchase. Most stores won't accept returns on assembled products. Also, if you return a pool table that you haven't assembled yet, you'll likely have to pay restocking fees and/or return shipping costs. You might be better off trying to sell the table locally instead.
