While reviews for the subscription are still pretty hard to find, we found nearly 700 ratings for the popcorn itself - averaging a perfect 5/5 stars. Inquire if you need specific gift options

Pay attention to ordering deadlines

So, since you already know you get to choose the flavors you like, your only other decision is exactly how much popcorn you want in your club delivery each month. True fans will want the Popcorn Lover subscription, which includes up to three flavors in a 6.5 lb. gallon tin, priced at $48 per delivery. If that's a little too much popcorn for your taste, you can also go with the Favorites Club (3.5 lb. gallon tin, $36/month) or the Gift Box Club (six snack bags). On that last one, though, the site was a little confusing: it said both $28/month and $30/month on the main popcorn club page, and then when we clicked to get details, it came up as a one-off purchase with prices ranging from $30 to $38. If that particular membership interests you the most, we recommend that you contact Al's before placing your order, since the site wasn't exactly clear enough.

Shipping is expensive

The other bad news? You should expect to pay a LOT for shipping with Al's. Unlike many rival clubs who include the delivery fee in the monthly price, this popcorn club charges per delivery - and at least in the area we tested, we were paying $33.41 per month for the Popcorn Lover membership, on top of the $48 for the club itself. Ouch!

Great customer service and no long-term commitment required

But, for the true popcorn aficionado, getting that kind of quantity with so much variety is a definite win - and there's no long-term commitment or hefty upfront payments here either. Give the big one a try for a month, change sizes the next month, cancel the month after - you're never locked into Al's popcorn club in any way. Plus, from what we've seen in customer reviews, the service here is on point: if there's ever a problem with your delivery or the popcorn itself, you can count on Al's to take care of it immediately.

Pick this club to get a lot of popcorn

If the two most important criteria for your future popcorn club are "quantity” and "novelty”, Al's should be the first one you look at. We just can't find another membership that takes those characteristics to the level that Al's Popcorn does. As long as you go into it knowing that a) it's going to be the most expensive popcorn club on the market and b) the website isn't 100% error-free, you won't be disappointed.

Fisher's Popcorn has a long history spanning most of the last century. In 1937, Everett Fisher and Edmund Pusey opened Pixton's Popcorn on Talbot Street's Boardwalk. Not many novel popcorn flavors

However, where this company doesn't quite measure up is in the flavor variety - or lack of it. You can either choose to receive the same kind in every delivery or let Fisher's surprise you each month, but the range of options is much smaller than most of the rival clubs we evaluated: Caramel, Butter, Aged Sharp White Cheddar, Kettle Corn, Caramel Peanut, Caramel Dusted w/White Cheddar, Old Bay Seasoned Caramel, and Pumpkin Spice were the examples on their list, but not all of those were available to select in the subscription details.

Then again, Fisher's has a very devoted fan base, judging by the 4,500+ customer reviews averaging an impressive 4.9 out of 5 stars. True, those ratings aren't strictly about the popcorn clubs, but even there you'll find a few dozen five-star reviews too. Customers say that this popcorn tastes amazing - "just like home”, for those who had it for the first time at a Fisher's store in person - and that it is always well-received as a gift, even in places as far-flung as Switzerland. People also praise the excellent customer service here: one mentioned getting the wrong flavor, and not only did Fisher's replace it right away, they let the customer keep the mistaken order too.

No matter which one you choose, you'll pay $21.95 per month (and they don't really disclose the additional per-delivery shipping fees of $7 until you add the plan to your online cart). That's not unreasonable pricing, given that you're getting two bags with 8-10 cups of popcorn in each one.

Reputation certainly isn't a problem for Great American Popcorn Company either. Though there aren't very many reviews specific to the monthly deliveries, everyone who tries this store's treats can't say enough about how good the popcorn is. And, since they offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with a refund or replacement and zero hassle, there's nothing to worry about with this popcorn club. The Better Business Bureau agrees, giving the company a perfect "A+” rating.

Could give the customer a little more choice

Our biggest disappointment with the Great American Popcorn Company's club is that there's not as much control given to the customer. They don't let you specify sweet vs. savory, show you a calendar of previous or upcoming flavor combinations, or give you the opportunity to skip a month if they're sending something you know you're likely to dislike. None of that is a huge downside, but when compared with rival popcorn clubs, you'll often find some combination of those features that makes it easier to really love what you get.

In spite of the lack of club options, we still think this is a good choice for popcorn lovers who are foodies too. The flavors here are delicious and unique, and you won't be disappointed in the quality of popcorn that you get.

Poppington's publishes its schedule of flavors right on the club page, but they reserve the right to substitute flavors if necessary - and they don't take requests for substitutions, FYI. You'll typically get one sweet and one savory popcorn variety, plus one more.

You'll be paying for your popcorn club upfront here. A three-month membership will cost you $113.99, six months is $227.99, nine months is $341.99, and a full year is $455.99. And shipping? No matter the length of the club we put in our shopping cart, we were always charged a little over $12 for delivery.

Also, your delivery date depends on when you place your order. If you set up your Poppington's club after the 15th of the month, your subscription will start at the beginning of the following month.

Not a lot of detail on cancellation policies

So, what if you decide to cancel? Unfortunately, Poppington's doesn't really go into detail on that. With a la carte purchases, you've got 10 days from the date of delivery to make a request for a refund or replacement - and although we'd assume that would apply to each delivery in your popcorn club subscription (and not just the first), the business stops short of spelling that out.

Expensive when you factor in shipping fees

The larger plan, priced at $19.99/month, features a bucket-shaped tin holding 7 to 33 ounces of popcorn. Additionally, shipping costs $9.99 per delivery, making this popcorn club quite expensive compared to competitors.

Set flavors, no skipping or substituting allowed

Whether you choose the larger or smaller size, the flavors will be the same and follow a set schedule for the year. For example, January will always be Cracked Pepper & Sea Salt, February is Strawberry Sparkling Wine, March is Cookies & Creme, and so on. Unfortunately, if there's a flavor you don't like, The Popcorn Factory doesn't allow you to skip that month.

Cancel whenever you want

You can cancel your subscription whenever you want, even though signing up for a club automatically gives you a year's worth of deliveries. However, it would be a hassle to cancel your membership just to skip a flavor, and then have to sign up all over again the following month. This definitely is not the most customer-centric popcorn club we've evaluated.

Disappointing customer service experience

That impression continues when you look at the reviews on the popcorn club pages here. We found more complaints than compliments: customers said that they had a very hard time canceling their membership, some of the flavors were overwhelming (specifically the pepper/sea salt combo), and that it was a pretty paltry amount of popcorn for the money. We also weren't very impressed: when we reached out to The Popcorn Factory via live chat, they weren't very quick to give us answers about the club and wound up just giving us links to other parts of their website.
